I was in awe of the richness of hues and color waves that Portland Leather features. From purses and accessories to knick-knacks like leather bookmarks and tassels. it's a fun store overall. Pricing can be a bit high, but it's evident that everything is made by hand. I walked away with a multi-color leather pencil bookmark for my niece and she absolutely loved it. They were holding a promotion at the time so they were offering items at 20% off! This shop is located on a street with plenty of cute shops, eats, and bars. Overall, a great job and a great experience, but wasn't quite what we were looking for, so didn't give that fifth star. No fault of their own, but everything seemed not quite what my wife was looking for. Beautiful colors, beautiful products unfortunately one of our favorite items from them recently got discontinued, and after having a problem with it, they issued us a full store credit which was really cool because it was a quite old Apple Watch band and really truly they didn't have to do that. This is a candy store for purse lovers! Along the wall are racks of shelves with handbags in various styles and in all colors of the rainbow! yes, they have the classic black and cognac leathers, but why not add a pop of color to your day with Cabo blue or poppy orange? It just makes me happy. All crafted right in Portland, the leather is scrumptious. The bags are not lined, keeping the cost down. My favorite style is the cross-body Poppy. It's on the smaller size, but holds all your essentials and works with any outfit. Lots of wallets, coin purses and other accessories. In the back there is a rack with an assortment of "almost perfect" bags at a discounted price. definitely worth pursuing this area! They post on Instagram daily (I follow them) and sell online, but since I'm local, I love stopping in the NW 23rd store so I can touch, see and try on the various bags. This is the smaller store of the two in Portland. For some background, I am a out of town visitor (visited in the summer), and I became a big fan of this brand just in the past few months--I have accumulated multiple Portland Leather products via online orders until now. So admittedly, I did stroll into my first store experience as a very wide-eyed and biased fan. I didn't notice any attitude from the workers but my more attentive friends did unfortunately. They also noted the lack of greetings and felt that they didn't really want to help. I did notice that staff weren't super knowledgeable when we asked them some questions. They didn't bother to then seek the answer via internet or ask another staff member. It's not the worst experience ever, but I definitely think there is room to grow in the customer service department. Although this is the boutique/premium store, both of my friends (new to the brand) noticed small nicks or small stains on the bags they were interested in. I would consider these imperfect bags "AP (almost perfect)". That was pretty disappointing considering this store is low in inventory and supposed to be premium leather only. In case any other out of town visitors are wondering the same thing, I did not notice any "unicorns". But the other store in Portland has many unicorns and AP products (it's also much larger). Let me start this review by saying that I have visited this physical location a few times and have had a pleasant experience. The staff is friendly and helpful and I have bought bags and accessories from them. Like many prior reviewers, my issue is with their customer service. When I was in store, they didn't have the bag and color I wanted in stock so they placed an online order for me. I never received a receipt in store or email so I had to contact customer service twice to verify if my order was even coming. I eventually got my order fine, but never got any paper or email receipt with my order number. I wanted to return one of my bags and realized the email on my order was wrong. No wonder I never got an email. I am now having to contact customer service for the fourth time for them to correct this so I can make sure I get an email confirmation for my return. Mind you, the clock is ticking since there is only a 30 day window to return. This has really put a damper on my experience with this company, and as much as I enjoy their products, I doubt I will buy from them again. read more

While it's going on like 15 yrs now since I haven't eaten cow, I certainly love buying and wearing it. For me, it's about quality but it's also about that leather smell I only get from cow and no other animal. And Portland Leather gives me both. The first time I stopped in with my daughter when she started living in PDX back in '18, I immediately fell in love with Portland Leather's workmanship, simple- straightforward styles, prices and of course, the scent. This NW 23rd Ave location is narrow but it's filled with a little bit of everything. Service this second time around is still great and never have issues. ENVELOPE CONVERTIBLE CROSSBODY The bags hinge is faulty and squeaks loud enough for people to hear it. I reached out to customer service and they said they have had this issue before. Their response was I should buy bees wax or WD40 and try that first. But be careful I could ruin the leather with WD40. Or I can bring it somewhere to be fixed(not sure where) and pay for it myself. I love Portland leather goods. I've bought many for myself, friend and family. I am not sure what is going on but this order was really poor. I purchased this item to give as a gift. Portland leather had a freebee incentive which I selected. Portland leather had a new program requiring you to pay an insurance fee in the event of lost goods or need to return. I did so. The order did not arrive. Portland leather said it was delivered and to check with neighbors. I did. No order. It took over a month to get the bag. The date I needed for the gift had long since passed. When the order I arrived, there was a charge for more than twice what I had paid AND the bag was defective. I am attaching a photo of the defective bag. Poorly made. Unresponsive customer service. Charged twice. The second time more than the amount agreed to. Every time I try to contact Portland Leather, they give me the run around. Fill out this form. Wait. No way to speak with a human being. Such a bummer. Again, I've bought more than a dozen bags from Portland Leather. In the past they had great products and great customer service. I hope this is not a trend. I really wanted to love Portland Leather. But when the zipper immediately got stuck inside what they call the "dark hole," the experience turned into a headache. I reached out to customer support thinking they'd be understanding. Instead, I got a long, overly detailed explanation on how to maneuver the zipper "just right" to get it unstuck. I had already tried all of that. Nothing worked. The zipper simply wouldn't budge. Along with that I had someone use a tool the first time this happened and they got it unstuck. But I couldn't get the tab to not be in the "dark hole", I would have to cut the seams to get it through. So eventually the zipper got stuck again. After I explained again that the zipper was completely unusable and clearly defective, they still wouldn't offer a return or exchange--just suggested I find a tailor or cobbler to fix it myself. Seriously? For a brand new $98 purse? They did offer a merchandise credit if I went through the hassle of getting it professionally repaired and sent them a receipt. But honestly, I shouldn't have to go out of my way to fix something that should have worked right out of the box. If you get a flawless item, great. But if there's even a small defect, expect a frustrating, dismissive process that puts the burden on you to fix their quality control issue. I won't be ordering again. read more

When I visited the actual store, it was great. It was nice to see each type of bag to see if it is a style I like. They offer premium bags (highest quality), almost perfect bags (minor errors), and UNICORN bags! The unicorn bags are unique bags that you cannot buy online through their online store usually. This review is for my online experiences only since I haven't yet visited a store. I found out about this company through ads on Facebook. Being that it's local, I was intrigued and although I'm currently working on becoming a minimalist, I loved the look of the circle purse. And although I already have a purse that I've been using for a while, it's always good to have a backup, right? After a long period of going back and forth on the website trying to decide what I wanted, I finally ordered a small Circle Purse and a small wallet in Deep Water and a "Sidekick" in Dream (all were listed in their "Almost Perfect" section). Since this was my first time ordering, I discovered that they have a rewards program where you earn points on purchases. You can also earn a lot of points by doing things like "Liking" their Facebook Page, following them on Twitter (I refuse to call it "X") and joining their Facebook group. I ended up earning enough points to get $10 off my order. When I received the items, I was very impressed with the packaging. Packed in a sturdy box, each item was carefully wrapped in tissue paper and sealed with a Portland Leather sticker. The shipping was about $10 but worth it. but the items themselves were disappointing. The quality of each item was really nice, but way too small for my needs. In a way, I blame myself, because I went to a lot of trouble choosing what I wanted and trying t evaluate the sizes, but obviously I made the wrong choice. I decided that I couldn't use either item, so I decided to return them that same night. That being said, I did keep the Sidekick and I love it. The zipper goes almost all the way around and although it's primarily for things like pens, a medium sized bottle of aspirin will fit comfortably inside. I was hoping to use the Sidekick in my Circle bag, but as I mentioned, the Circle Bag was way too small, as was the wallet, which felt really stiff when I unzipped it. Returning the items was really easy. I just started the return on the website and opted for the free return option, which meant repacking the items and going to Fed Ex and then being issued a gift card as a refund. When I was there, Fed Ex printed a shipping label and gave me a tracking number. I figured that I'd have to wait until they received the items to receive the gift card, but I was happy when the gift card arrived in my email a few hours after I'd initiated the return. I placed another order, this time for a Large Bucket Bag in Dream (my favorite color in the world. I really wanted the bag in Small, but they didn't have Dream available in that size so I'm taking a chance and praying that the Large isn't too large. When I placed the order, there was a sale going on for 30% off. Unfortunately I may have waited too late and I couldn't get the discount to apply even though I believe that I ordered well within the sale dates. When I returned the other items, I lost the points that I'd accumulated, but I had enough points remaining to get another $10 off. However I was disappointed that when I placed the order, the bag was so much more expensive ($132 as opposed to the $92 that was listed as the sale price. Try as I might, I couldn't get the sale price to appear. I still wanted the bag, so I sent an email hoping they could credit me for the difference. I received an email response today and although it wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, their offer was generous. They said they can't refund the difference in price, but they could either give me a $40 gift card to use online or add 800 points to my account. I replied and stated that if I can use the 800 points in the store I would go that route or just use the $40 gift card. Either way, I felt that it was very nice of them to offer. Tracking the item I returned, I see that it should arrive in Oregon tomorrow. I'm disappointed with myself for not doing a little more research on this place. I didn't realize that they have stores in Portland and had I known that, I would have waited until my trip to Portland in December so that I could at least look at the items before deciding to purchase. But I got carried away and wanted to take advantage of the sale. I'm still planning on visiting the store (possibly the retail store and the outlet) while I'm in Portland. After I use the points or my gift card, I may not order from them again, just because of the hassle (and because I don't need more than one leather purse or wallet), but I'm looking forward to receiving my Bucket Bag. I have read the reviews about the store customer service and will definitely take those into consideration, but at least I won't walk in with high expectations. I will say that if you have an issue and email them, they do seem willing to help you out as best as they can. read more

This is a review of Portland leather from the mail order perspective. I have never been in the store and my only experience with this organization is through mail order. I will just say that their packaging is impeccable. The idea is to protect the item before during and after it gets to you and Portland leather does an amazing job at this. Is everything wrapped in tissue stuffed to the gills, Inside of its own package within a package. Now that is pro!!. Their website had a lot to offer many selections and lovely colors I ordered a few things in some colors that I don't currently have. I ordered the extra large tote with a zipper in grizzly, The small wallet also in grizzly which is a smooth leather finish. And I ordered a tote backpack in cold brew which has a pebble finish. All were perfect and beautiful. I would say that if there's something that you like on their site it will get to you in perfect order and in a timely fashion and will be top quality. I think they even have a Labor Day sale going on now I would jump on it and save yourself a few pennies on some really great merch. read more

The leather was thinner than expected, so I returned it within a week of my receiving it. That was November 29th, when I sent it via USPS and paid for a signature when it was picked up at the post office by a Portland Leather associate. That was on December 2nd. As of this date, January 3rd, I've not received a credit on my credit card, so I called my credit card company and they are going to proceed with an investigation. Really? This is an incredible store! There was one specific bag I really wanted from this company. I couldn't find it online and even their email support couldn't locate it for me and it was limited edition. Imagine my excitement when I found 2 in the almost perfect section as soon as I walked in!! I'll always be a person willing to give seconds items a home, I was so excited! Bought a pair of boots and some sneakers online in a seemingly good sale (BOGO). Their sale return policy was absolute: no returns. I understood this. However, I assumed that the products would be correctly sized and not defective. I was wrong. The insole on my boots is peeling off and clumping under my foot about 1 month after purchase. Their sneakers feel two sizes too small even though they are the same size as the, insole issues aside, very wearable but not well fitting (too tight on the arches after breaking in) boots. I raised these issues to the support team. Their solution? A 30% discount code. Thank you, but I decline to spend more money on goods that I cannot trust to be sold as advertised.
