We absolutely loved this place. We came to hang out after dinner and ended up hanging out near the fireplace with our drinks! Our server was extremely nice and welcoming! I loved the alliance and horde flags hanging on the wall! This is just an absolute vibe which is perfect for a fun night. I had a cider which was delicious, while my friends got the mead which they loved! We will be back for sure!

I have never walked into a place and thought I traveled back in time until I came to wyrd. You walk in and its dark and you feel like you've just walked into a lord of the rings Harry Potter old school bar tavern . I dont know how to describe it except it was by far one of the coolest places ive ever been. There was only one person working and yet she help everyone super fast. The mead was pretty good .a little on the sweeter side but hey its mead lol. Tons of items and tshirts and the coolest hand made items .

Having recently attended my first Renaissance Fair earlier this summer and trying mead for the first time I was thrilled when i discovered this place. The location for me to find was just a little difficult at first. When I thought that I had found my destination, according to my maps app on my phone, it was another establishment that happened to be on street level. Upon further walking around I realized that the establishment is down underground in a basement underneath. (There is a stairway that is accessible from the outside)! I mean, I did see their banner, but I just didn't make the connection that's my bad. Anyway for people looking to find this place It is on the corner of 41st and Holgate and look for the yellow taco food truck out front in the parking lot . When you see that, that's like X marks the spot. You're there! You can even get tacos at the food truck and take them down with you into the Wyrd Meadery! Now walking down the stairway, I felt like I was walking down to an old time medieval entrance. And once I was inside, it's like I was teleported back to the middle ages! The ambience and the decor were outstanding! The theme is totally medieval and if you've ever been to a Renaissance fair this exactly the vibe it gives. I spent a lot of time just exploring every little nook and cranny because it's dimly lit and I wanted to make sure that I could see everything there was to see on their walls. They even have a local artisan that sells his handmade leather goods and provisions that you can purchase. The main seating area with tables in front of a stone fireplace with skulls in the fire is just cool as hell! They have medieval music playing over the speakers so you can totally get into the vibe and feel like you're back in the 13th century England somewhere. I kept halfway expecting the Witcher to walk through the door at any time and sit down and order a bottle of mead and a brick of cheese! LOL! Now for the mead. I'm a total beginner at Mead having only really had it at the Renaissance fair a couple of months prior. The bartender Tyler was so extremely helpful in guiding me on what I might like. Besides him having the same name as my adult son, I instantly took a liking to him. We talked about the different meads that they have and their different flavors. but we also talked about medieval TV shows like Game of Thrones, the Witcher, and Lord of the Rings. And speaking of Lord of the rings, they have a mead there that is inspired by the hobbits Merritt and Pippin called "Second Breakfast". If you go there, you really must try it. It's very good. Also, Travis, the owner came out and talked to me too. Travis also made me feel very welcome. as he in I talked quite a bit as well. In fact, Tyler and Travis, are brothers. So after ordering a 5 ounce glass of a traditional, sweet mead and sampling a few other of the flavored varieties, I did end up bringing home a bottle of the traditional semi-sweet but I easily could've bought so many more. Just be wary the alcohol content of meat is very high at around 13% alcohol by volume! Anyway, I have an excuse now to go back next time and buy more because my family liked it too as we drank about half the bottle when I got home after dinner!

The staff were so fun and friendly when we were in for a visit. Wish we lived in town and we'd come often. Mead was average, but I appreciated the variety of flavors! Ambience really nailed it- I truly felt like a part of a medieval faery quest in the best possible way.

This place is so cool, the staff are so friendly and have great suggestions if you are unsure what to get. So much to see even if you've been there you'll notice new things.

What a cool and quirky place! Truly medieval vibes going on here. Really cool handmade goods store with a lot of leather goods and a truly great variety of meads. Kinda off the beaten path a bit, but definitely worth the trip!

What a Wyrd place to quench a thirst for mead . Dark and moody . Warm. Very warm. Open hearth a'goin . Candles light Medieval banners . Good selection of Wyrd mead . Bottles to go . Guest mead , too . Even flights of mead. Food is from outside parking lot . Leather goods a swords length away. Mostly gauntlets and coasters . I would even stick my neck out , and say this place would be the best place to introduce yourself to mead . (can you really imagine fierce Vikings tending apiaries ??)

Please serve beer at least! Mead only :( yak. But the atmosphere is so fun. Most meads are sweet and high in sugar. Sweet wine.

That's not the issue. At the time, Portland Leather was running another promotion, SUNNY25, which would have given me 25% off. In their response, they acknowledged that if I had entered that code, I would have received the discount. I contacted customer service immediately after placing the order to either cancel it or have the current promotion applied. Unfortunately, there is no option to cancel an order and no customer service phone number to call, so email is the only way to reach them. Their response was that they could not make any retroactive adjustments. Instead, they offered me 600 reward points toward a future purchase. Considering they admitted I would have qualified for the 25% discount, this felt like a very inadequate resolution. Portland Leather seems to have a sale running almost constantly, which makes it feel like the sale price is their actual everyday price. I like their products, but the lack of flexibility and poor customer service left me very disappointed.

On the other hand, Beckel Canvas is solid old school. Its canvas products range from Wall tents to sturdy field bags to accessories for enjoying the great outdoors. You can't get a better practical canvas bag for the money. And to quote the Manager at a "hip" Portland products store that I recently visited: "Kathy (2nd Generation Beckel) is a real sweetheart". I first ordered a bag (via snail mail) and was super impressed by it's sturdiness, good looks, and practicality. I then made it a point to stop in at their Clinton Street "Outpost" during a recent visit to Portland. This is a working shop, with little need for showroom aesthetics and plenty of emphasis on sewing up lots of cool stuff. One small disappointment was Kathy's learned determination that my beloved Land's End canvas briefcase (purchased in 1987 and used continuously ever since) was now beyond repair. I had high hopes, but sometimes even good canvas meets its maker. At the same time, I'm sure that if I'm still around in those same 26 years, that my Beckel bag will still be at my side and like me, going strong.
