Was kind of hoping for some good pizza that lived up to the hype but was sadly dissapointed. We ordered a large three cheese blend and jalapeño pizza with garlic crust which sounds absolutely delicious in theory but in practice not so much. I asked ahead of time if the jalapeño peppers were fresh and was assured they were, I detest pickled jalapeño and sure enough I got pickled peppers but at least there were not many so thats a plus. The cheese wasnt bad, a blend of Mozz, Assiago and Parmesan. The sauce was tangy but not tasty but the crust was the real disappointment. The crust was like a frozen bread dough, undercooked in the middle and barely cooked on the edges, lacking in flavor, char, flop and overall crustiness. We ordered through Door Dash so the food was merely warm but imagining what it would have been piping hot -- the pizza was amazing! My hubs got a version of a supreme and he really like it - he is quite particular about his pizza flavors! I got a mushroom, goat cheese, and arugula pizza with balsamic drizzle. Sooooo good! After a horrendous beginning to our 2022 family vacation, we finally made it to Maine and found our way downtown Bangor. We had to park a bit further, but made the trek back up the streets to get some local pizza. I'm SO happy we did! The bartender/waiter who helped us was extremely dry with witty humor that lifted our spirits. The menu had extremely unique names and ingredients (a twice baked potato pie?!). The pizzas came out quickly and they delivered in appearance and flavor! We ordered the Merrimack River, Moosehead, Eastport, and Bradbury Mountain and all were above our expectations. The venue is one of the few open on a Sunday and we whole heartedly thank the owners and workers for such! We came in right after opening on a Monday, so it was empty. We picked this spot because it had vegan options and kid options. My toddler got ravioli with fruit and she was happy with it. She also liked the crayons and coloring page she was given upon seating. (This seems common in Maine but we never get this in California!) My husband liked his personal pizza with sausage, pepperoni, and onion. I had a basil crust pizza with vegan cheese and artichoke. It was great! I don't know what vegan cheese is used but I was impressed, it might be the best I've had. The crust was good as well and I am happy to report that I could taste the basil. As a HUGE pizza fan, I couldn't recommend a visit to Portland Pie in Bangor more. The dough is light, fresh and tasty and the marinara sauce is perfection. Not to forget to mention the friendly and helpful staff! We tried the artichoke and heirloom summer special and it was the tastiest pizza I've ever had. Stopped by @portlandpieco in their Bangor location for a quick late lunch. The restaurant is a mix of historical and modern with exposed brick and original hardwood floors. The service was warm and welcoming but not too overwhelming. Ordered the Cape Neddick with beer dough (pictured) which is a classic pepperoni with fresh mozzarella and basil. Sauce is on the less spiced side but tastes very fresh. Needed the addition of red pepper flakes. Also got the cheese calzone with added breaded chicken and pepperoni made with a garlic crust (not pictured). The dough was better than the beer dough, but the calzone didn't have enough ricotta or stability when eating. Downeast Cider on draft is always a welcome sight. Visited for the first time ever on Pride weekend, food was alright. Drinks were also alright, and the service was good. My issue is that when I checked my bank statement after paying for the experience, they overcharged my bank card $5 and some change more than the total with tip that I wrote on the slip when I paid. I understand it's only a few dollars, its being stolen from in any capacity really that sours my feelings about any establishment. Will not be coming here again, and will instead choose to bring business to local restaurants that do not intend to overcharge my card frivolously. Such amazing food! We got a cranberry apple salad and the Oktoberfest sausage pizza, one of their seasonal specials. Their thin crust in flavorful and delicious, not try and brittle like most places. It was a delight to eat! And the flavors in the pizza and salad were incredible. We are going to have mustard on pizza more often, this was life changing! Great service and friendly staff. Kudos to PPC for an online ordering platform that facilitates customization. Although my wife suggested I order by phone to get a cheese-less pizza, I logged onto the online platform anyway and was pleased to see the checkbox for 'no cheese.' While there, I was also able to scroll down and add onions, Kalamata olives, tomato slices, and basil to my Old Orchard Roasted Veggie pie on wheat dough. My wife ordered the Bradbury Mushroom Goat Cheese with 'Plain Chicken' (as opposed to the 'BBQ Chicken') on gluten free dough. In addition to gluten free and wheat, dough options include beer, basil, garlic, and cauliflower. The Pies were ready within the 30 minute window quoted online. Having paid and tipped via computer transaction, I was in and out within two minutes. We each enjoyed our individual pies. I particularly liked the fresh basil I had added to mine, and the artichoke slices. All the veggies were fresh. The sauce was good but a little plain for my tastes--I think some added oregano might bring some dimension to the flavor. The crust was good as well--it definitely tasted like wheat; however, I would have liked a genuine whole wheat crust, with a lower fiber to carb ratio that makes for a more filling experience. Between enthusiastic bites, my wife described her pie as 'delectable.' After the added veggies and chicken and the tip, our 10" pizzas came to $50, which I think is a little steep. Portland Pie has a great variety of specialty pizzas as well as the option to build your own. Major respect to them for offering vegan cheese as an option and clearly labeling the vegan and gluten-free items on the menu! Small details like that make all the difference. I went with the Merrimack Pie (basically a Margherita pizza with marinara sauce). My wife built her own pizza with wheat dough, vegan cheese, beyond burger, and carmelized onions. Both pies were excellent. My Margherita pie had a thicker, fluffier crust with a rich sauce and perfectly melted cheese. The basil added good flavor to the pie. My wife's vegan cheese pizza was also excellent! The cheese was very gooey (typical for vegan cheese) but was packed with flavor!! We will definitely be ordering from here more. Went to Bangor for a short trip. Portland Pie came up as having vegan options. I got vegan pizza, it was delicious. The staff met me when I walked in and were great and had awesome service the entire time. I was alone so I was easy but I sat at the bar and enjoyed a beer and watched sports center while I waited for my pizza. I came in for my birthday, coincidentally also the grand opening day for this location. I was met by super friendly staff. I started with some clam chowder from Kamasouptra which was absolutely delicious. It's a local Maine business that, as the name suggests, makes a rotating line up of soups. Given that the clam chowder was delicious, clams perfectly cooked so they were firm to bite but not super chewy, good flavor to the base, I suspect the rest of their soups are worth ttying! The margherita pizza was absolutely delicious, with a sweet tomato sauce, gorgeous slices of mozzarella, and plenty of lovely basil. Try it on the garlic crust for an extra kick of flavor! Went here today for lunch with a date. I couldn't decide if I wanted a sandwich or pizza. My date was going with a sandwich so I did as well. As the pizzas passed going to other tables, I was second guessing my decision. Our food came, I had the Owel's Head wrap and she had the Acadia, neither of us were disappointed! I believe you get what you pay for. In the case of Portland Pie, I paid $24.83 for a Moosehead Pie. With all the toppings--pepperoni, Italian sausage, peppers, onions, and mushrooms--it tasted pretty good. However, the sauce had a salty aftertaste, like it came straight from a can. The crust was also floppy. Definitely couldn't hold its own weight on its way from the trough to my face. Will I be a repeat customer? Portland pie! Why must you always disappoint??!? It seems no matter what geographical location we visit the experience is bad. We stopped for an early dinner 4:45. Mostly quiet. The two servers were rude. Couldn't smile and didn't want to be bothered with helping customers. Table was dirty. Vegetable pizza was undercooked and had gigantic heaps of minced garlic (the kind from the glass jars in bulk) all through the pizza. So we would take a bite of a complete mouthful of raw garlic and raw toppings. Disgusting. It was quite clear the pizza was underdone and the kitchen sent it and servers served it without question. Truly gross. The patty melt was a mangled overcooked mess. The entire experience was really unsavory and after having a bad experience in Westbrook (many years ago) and two bad delivery attempts in Portland and Scarborough we won't return. Portland Pie has the best gluten free bread, I actually questioned if it was gluten free. I wanted a sandwich & it is always difficult to find sandwiches on gluten feee bread. I had my husband order and pick it up. I felt bad, but called to verify that it was gluten free bread, because it was fluffy and not dense as gluten free bread usually is. The guy who answered the phone was so polite and actually checked with the chef to make sure it was gluten free.
