A great local Italian restaurant! Reminds of the authentic neighborhood style Italian eatery so many are fortunate to know and love! Lots of folks from the area, this is where families celebrate birthdays and more. The food was excellent - from the garlic rolls and house salad right on through. Yes, the veal parmigiana is outstanding, as are the gnocchi, and the cannoli was excellent too! A great full bar too, with a shortish wine list (that also reminds on the approach of a solid neighborhood style italian restaurant). And the value! I asked my wife to estimate the bill (she is Italian, worked in the industry for years, and is usually very good at this). She overestimated the bill by almost 40%! Service was outstanding! Our waitress was fabulous!!! She took the time to explain the menu and provided us with great recommendations. We did the whole menu from appetizers to dessert. It was a delightful experience. The calamari was a little on the chewy side and the dishes were delivered very quickly. We couldn't enjoy the dishes before the next one came out. One of Greenville's best-kept local gems! We had such an amazing experience at Portofino's! The food was absolutely delicious!! everything tasted fresh, homemade, and perfectly seasoned. Don't get me started on those stuffed artichoke balls... literally melt in your mouth in the best way possible... and I could've eaten 20 of those cheese sticks... they were that good! The staff was incredible... funny, kind genuinely happy to be there... you can tell they really enjoy what they do. Everyone we spoke to had worked at Portofino's for years, which says a lot about the kind of family fun restaurant they've built. You can feel the pride and family atmosphere the moment you walk in. It's rare these days to find a restaurant that nails both the food and the service, but Portofino's does it effortlessly. Whether you're craving delicious Italian, celebrating with family, or just want a cozy night out, this place is a must-visit. In from out of town visiting my friend. I was craving Italian food. My friend picked this place based on menu ( she was trying to avoid carbs but accommodate my craving for Italian). Waiter (Jeff) was super pleasant at first introduction. Server was timely and pace was perfect. Had the signature lasagna dish. Fantastic!! Pre entree enjoyed their bottomless butter rolls and salad. The restaurant had a guitar player playing some classic hits, it was just enough ambience to make it enjoyable without being too difficult to have a conversation. The manager came over (Chris) asked us how our experience was ( it was fantastic). Lovely experience and I highly recommend this establishment! read more

Went here for a date night and then returned soon after for my bday dinner. This place is great for all occasions! The ambiance is more chill and subtle lighting, the guests seem more intimate and it's not overly noisy. The food is all great most entrees start off with a nice salad generously topped with all kinds of ingredients like beets, beans, cheese and more, and the vinaigrette is amazing! It's accompanied by some fresh baked garlic knots that are so soft and flavorful. Then the entrees do not disappoint with made to order sauces, I've tried both fettuccini Alfredo and the cannelloni both were pretty good but my favorite is the fettuccini for sure! And my date got the ravioli with meat sauce and enjoyed it as well. The service is always top notch, you can tell they really care and want you to have a great experience and keep coming back. Management usually checks in or as you're leaving, truly great knowing the whole restaurant cares about each table! Amazing food, great staff, can't wait to go back! My favorite Italian spot in Greenville/Spatanburg so far! I love that the salad is served family style and their house vinaigrette is perfect. The warm garlic rolls are to die for! We've eaten here a few times and they're always busy. Obviously um not the only one who loves them. Their staff is really friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I don't have a photo from the last time we went when my husband had a steak that he said could beat most "steakhouses". I have ohotos of the lasagna with all the gooey cheese and fried calamari which was delicious and perfectly fried. Not overcooked rubber bands like a lot of places. What a massive disappointed experience. I was really looking forward to this place but what a huge let down. Looking at past reviews I was drawn to the tortellini and the waiter Mike said he recommended it. I chose between the Saltimbocca or the shrimp and scallop pasta for this dish. The dish had onions, red peppers, mushrooms, and roasted red peppers and I asked not to have Red Peppers but as the dish came out it was overloaded with onions with a few tortellini. The sauce was very thick and it tasted terrible. Everything bit was more onions than pasta. When I was asked by the general manager how everything was, I showed him the bowl full of onions and he said he could see it was heavily made with vegetables, he didn't offer anything as a substitute and when I got the bill, there was no reduction of costs and they never apologized for the dish. The final issue that made the entire experience horrible was that the server Mike took forever to prepare my bill and then take it after I was ready to pay. I was never asked for another beer so I will not return. What a shame. read more

We are local to this restaurant and it is a family favorite for us. After taking some visiting friends this week I realized I had never done a review. If you love Italian food, DON'T MISS Portofino's! When you walk in the door the first thing you notice is the aroma in the room. Then you look around and see other patrons laughing and chatting and drinking wine and are instantly transformed to Italy. Certainly start talking loudly and use your hands!! LOL! As for service, we have never had anything less than stellar service. This is a second generation family business, and even the associates who aren't family seem like family. Very dedicated. Portofino's has a full bar, and their specialty cocktails are awesome The wine menu is excellent, too. Entrees at Portofino's come with bottomless salad and the best dinner rolls you ever put in your mouth! The rolls are covered with loads of garlic and butter and are soft and heavenly! Salad is great, too, but once those rolls come out, it's over for me! LOL! At our table this week we had the calamari appetizer followed by spaghetti, lasagna, tortellini, and chicken marsala. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. It was tasty and authentic Italian. The portions are so plentiful that we each left boxes with a meal for tomorrow. We have been many times, and the food is always plentiful and outstanding. I asked my friends to compare it to the Italian chain and they said there is no comparison. This was the worst Italian food that I have ever eaten. I don't understand how anyone can give their food a good rating. I ordered saltimboca. The veal was very thick and chewy with a sauce that was tasteless. My wife's chicken Frances's was also too thick and chewy. The place was nice. The place was full and the service was excellent but my dinner was a disappointment. I ordered veal picatta with linguini and grilled asparagus. The photos showed whole spears of asparagus grilled. What I got was one inch piece of overcooked not grilled (maybe leftover) asparagus. That was the first disappointment. The piece of veal was the 2nd. It was the size of my fist, tough & grisly. Not scallopini = thinly sliced. I didn't see any pine nuts either. The ambiance was a full house with a musician playing and strolling through the entire restaurant. He will stop at a table, talk to folks and take requests it makes for a genuine Italian atmosphere. The staff is very kind and genuinely want you to have fun and enjoy yourself as well. This is one Italian place that does not serve pizza. They have appetizers, soup and entree meals. Their food is nothing short of outstanding. we had a salad for two, chicken Limone, wine and dessert. The check for two people was around $50. Portofino's is our go-to Italian place in the Greenville area. The food is always fantastic. The service is great. Thursday night live music is awesome. They have the best salad and bread to start the meal. My husband always gets Chicken Alfredo, which is excellent, and I've tried many different dishes. Visited on Saturday evening. The place was crowded but we had a reservation. Food was decent, rich, but tasty. Now, if only we could get the time to eat... the waitress and the support staff were in a rush to get us out. Three time a staff member came and attempted to take wine glasses that were in the hands of guests. The whole idea of getting out with friends to eat out on a weekend, is to enjoy the company and relax. Here we were worried that if we look the other way, our half eaten entree would disappear. A surprise gift certificate led us to Portofino's. Long on our list to try this was perfect. Weeknight at 6:20 the place was already crowded. Seated surprisingly quickly. While noisy we were able to converse without raising our voices. Service was prompt. The calamari was very good. I stepped out and had a gin fizz. Interesting enough to try and duplicate at home. My wife had the steak with Gorgonzola and I had a creamy shrimp pasta. Both were excellent and filling. The cheesecake was good but not exceptional. Definitely a second visit soon. read more

Just about the best dining experience I've had in Greenville. We went on a Thursday night and were pleasantly surprised by the live music - keyboard and bass. Do not be ashamed to use the doggie bag, the portions are large and they also include some rolls and salad. Poor management. A member of our group ordered the calamari appetizer. Menu says, "Lightly battered and fried served with marinara and our special dipping sauce." It turns out that about 1/4 of the round fried things are cherry peppers! No mention of it! Our diner is averse to spicy foods, and had to spit it in to their napkin! We said something to the server, who explained what it was. I had to pick through and take them out while our diner was in the restroom trying to get the taste out. I talked to the manager. She said that they were changing the recipe but hadn't updated the menu yet. She also said the servers were supposed to tell the diners. First, don't through your servers under the bus. They were working hard on a packed night. It is the responsibility of MANAGEMENT to ensure menus are accurate. Thank god this wasn't one of the food items our diner has anaphylactic reactions too! You MUST be honest with what you're serving! The manager did take the charge off for the calamari. The other meals were excellent. But it was really hard to get past such a colossal screw up! read more
