One of Greenville's best-kept local gems! We had such an amazing experience at Portofino's! The food was absolutely delicious!! everything tasted fresh, homemade, and perfectly seasoned. Don't get me started on those stuffed artichoke balls... literally melt in your mouth in the best way possible... and I could've eaten 20 of those cheese sticks... they were that good! The staff was incredible... funny, kind genuinely happy to be there... you can tell they really enjoy what they do. Everyone we spoke to had worked at Portofino's for years, which says a lot about the kind of family fun restaurant they've built. You can feel the pride and family atmosphere the moment you walk in. Went here for a date night and then returned soon after for my bday dinner. This place is great for all occasions! The ambiance is more chill and subtle lighting, the guests seem more intimate and it's not overly noisy. The food is all great most entrees start off with a nice salad generously topped with all kinds of ingredients like beets, beans, cheese and more, and the vinaigrette is amazing! It's accompanied by some fresh baked garlic knots that are so soft and flavorful. Then the entrees do not disappoint with made to order sauces, I've tried both fettuccini Alfredo and the cannelloni both were pretty good but my favorite is the fettuccini for sure! And my date got the ravioli with meat sauce and enjoyed it as well. The service is always top notch, you can tell they really care and want you to have a great experience and keep coming back. Management usually checks in or as you're leaving, truly great knowing the whole restaurant cares about each table! Amazing food, great staff, can't wait to go back! My favorite Italian spot in Greenville/Spatanburg so far! I love that the salad is served family style and their house vinaigrette is perfect. The warm garlic rolls are to die for! We've eaten here a few times and they're always busy. Obviously um not the only one who loves them. Their staff is really friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I don't have a photo from the last time we went when my husband had a steak that he said could beat most "steakhouses". I have ohotos of the lasagna with all the gooey cheese and fried calamari which was delicious and perfectly fried. Not overcooked rubber bands like a lot of places. What a massive disappointed experience. I was really looking forward to this place but what a huge let down. Looking at past reviews I was drawn to the tortellini and the waiter Mike said he recommended it. I chose between the Saltimbocca or the shrimp and scallop pasta for this dish. The dish had onions, red peppers, mushrooms, and roasted red peppers and I asked not to have Red Peppers but as the dish came out it was overloaded with onions with a few tortellini. The sauce was very thick and it tasted terrible. Everything bit was more onions than pasta. When I was asked by the general manager how everything was, I showed him the bowl full of onions and he said he could see it was heavily made with vegetables, he didn't offer anything as a substitute and when I got the bill, there was no reduction of costs and they never apologized for the dish. The final issue that made the entire experience horrible was that the server Mike took forever to prepare my bill and then take it after I was ready to pay. I was never asked for another beer so I will not return. What a shame. read more

We are local to this restaurant and it is a family favorite for us. After taking some visiting friends this week I realized I had never done a review. If you love Italian food, DON'T MISS Portofino's! When you walk in the door the first thing you notice is the aroma in the room. Then you look around and see other patrons laughing and chatting and drinking wine and are instantly transformed to Italy. Certainly start talking loudly and use your hands!! LOL! As for service, we have never had anything less than stellar service. This is a second generation family business, and even the associates who aren't family seem like family. Very dedicated. Portofino's has a full bar, and their specialty cocktails are awesome The wine menu is excellent, too. Entrees at Portofino's come with bottomless salad and the best dinner rolls you ever put in your mouth! The rolls are covered with loads of garlic and butter and are soft and heavenly! Salad is great, too, but once those rolls come out, it's over for me! LOL! At our table this week we had the calamari appetizer followed by spaghetti, lasagna, tortellini, and chicken marsala. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. It was tasty and authentic Italian. The portions are so plentiful that we each left boxes with a meal for tomorrow. We have been many times, and the food is always plentiful and outstanding. I asked my friends to compare it to the Italian chain and they said there is no comparison. This was the worst Italian food that I have ever eaten. I don't understand how anyone can give their food a good rating. I ordered saltimboca. The veal was very thick and chewy with a sauce that was tasteless. My wife's chicken Frances's was also too thick and chewy. The photos showed whole spears of asparagus grilled. What I got was one inch piece of overcooked not grilled (maybe leftover) asparagus. That was the first disappointment. The ambiance was a full house with a musician playing and strolling through the entire restaurant. He will stop at a table, talk to folks and take requests it makes for a genuine Italian atmosphere. They have the best salad and bread to start the meal. My husband always gets Chicken Alfredo, which is excellent, and I've tried many different dishes. A surprise gift certificate led us to Portofino's. Long on our list to try this was perfect. Weeknight at 6:20 the place was already crowded. Seated surprisingly quickly. While noisy we were able to converse without raising our voices. Service was prompt. The calamari was very good. I stepped out and had a gin fizz. Interesting enough to try and duplicate at home. My wife had the steak with Gorgonzola and I had a creamy shrimp pasta. Both were excellent and filling. The cheesecake was good but not exceptional. Definitely a second visit soon. read more

We've been here on multiple occasions and it's always been great. We decided to go on valentine's day and my husband reserved us a table for two at 6:30, back in the beginning of January. We get there tonight and go inside and let them know we're here at 6:20 and the host said she'd let us know when a table will be ready for us which is fine because we got there a little early. We wait and finally at 6:50 when we still hadn't been sat I asked "about how much longer" and they asked for the name and i told them the name and what time our reservation was for and then we got sat immediately after that. The tables were extremely close together and small and just out in the open. It was very awkward, loud, and crowded and the cloth on the tables were very nasty. The service was great considering how busy it was but the food wasn't. Coming from someone who works in the serving industry, for this to be a more classy and uppidty restaurant, that kind of seating and atmosphere shouldn't be like that no matter if it's a busy day or not. read more

Do not be ashamed to use the doggie bag, the portions are large and they also include some rolls and salad. Poor management. A member of our group ordered the calamari appetizer. Menu says, "Lightly battered and fried served with marinara and our special dipping sauce." It turns out that about 1/4 of the round fried things are cherry peppers! No mention of it! Our diner is averse to spicy foods, and had to spit it in to their napkin! We said something to the server, who explained what it was. I had to pick through and take them out while our diner was in the restroom trying to get the taste out. I talked to the manager. She said that they were changing the recipe but hadn't updated the menu yet. She also said the servers were supposed to tell the diners. First, don't through your servers under the bus. They were working hard on a packed night. It is the responsibility of MANAGEMENT to ensure menus are accurate. Thank god this wasn't one of the food items our diner has anaphylactic reactions too! You MUST be honest with what you're serving! The manager did take the charge off for the calamari. The other meals were excellent. I was a fairly new customer of Portofinos here in Greenville via Uber. I placed an order last Wednesday evening, and all was well until I responded to a survey request after I had my meal. When I was completing the survey, I unintentionally hit the reorder button. I canceled the order within five minutes only to have Uber zap me for $19.93 for canceling an order that was placed by mistake. I followed with a call to Portofono's, and I spoke with a person who claimed to be the manager on duty. I explained the situation, and she told me that she wouldn't be happy about that either. Then she went on to say that there was nothing she could do. I told her that Portofino's is working with Uber, and Uber doesn't even have a working phone number that I could find. Moreover, the way Urber treated me was a direct reflection on Portofino's. This person did not seem genuinely interested in assisting me in this situation. I believe Portofino's failed me by aligning themselves with an organization that treats their customers poorly. Also, if I was on the hook for the cost of a spaghetti meal, why not issue a coupon to make things right? I was not offered any type of remedy to my situation. The person who identified herself as the manager took my name, number, and stated she would give it to the owner. I have not been contacted by anyone from Portofino's. They may have needed the $19.93 more than I do. However, I have canceled my Uber membership, and I can't do business with a company who works with the Ubers of the world, who in my opinion, was very unprofessional to say the least. read more

Notable update from the unadvertised charges concern... Portofino's reached out to me to clarify my issue and rectify it. They were not able to review how the mistake was made, but were able to identify the correct total and provide a refund. We discussed their current take-out fees (would have been $0.85 instead of over $15), which are not currently listed on the website, but they plan to look into amending the website to note that specific fee. While my experience was unpleasant that day, I greatly appreciate the time taken to rectify the issue and, more importantly, consider the systems issues that lead to the mistake. read more

Where do I even start. This establishment brings tears to my eyes. First off, the ambiance is perfect. Your eyes are met with dimmed lighting, perfect for guests to get intimate with their pasta dish. The staff are very friendly. Bringing a guest first, family owned type service. Now for the food, holy moly. First off, you get free unlimited, UNLIMITED, bread rolls. The bread rolls compromise of small yeast rolls, lathered in butter and garlic. Each bite forces a smile on my face, reminding me that there is more to my life. After your relinquish your hunger from stuffing your face with rolls, they then bring out the salad, which in case your wondering, is unlimited. The salad is very fresh, a nice contrast to the very dense rolls you get. Now for the entrees. My go to will always be the chicken with tomato cream sauce. This dish is the absolute best. For all my sauce connoisseurs, do not worry, you will not be disappointed. They lather this dish in sauce, and chicken, perfect for anyone with a big appetite. The best way to describe this dish without experiencing it, is take your happiest moment you've ever experienced, and multiple by it by 10. I've had other entrees as well, and have had nothing but good experiences. A couple others I would def recommend are their sirloin steaks and gnocchi (that pesto sauce does something to me). This place is extremely affordable, allowing me to go once a week. If you're an avid Italian food eater, this place is a must try. Do yourself a favor and go immediately. Thank you. read more

Great place for Italian food and great drinks. We've been here three times now and always eat at the bar, so I can't really speak to the service at the tables. Bar service is fantastic, though. Some of the food that really stood out was the calamari and the stuffed artichoke appetizers and the chicken parmigiana and tortellaci entrees. Also, the bread that comes with the all-you-can-eat salad is something else - a basket of small rolls that are swimming in garlic butter. They are really addictive! Portions are definitely on the large side - so you can count on having extra to take home unless you have a really huge appetite... or do like my wife and I and split an entree. The aforementioned calamari and chicken parmigiana were ordered on the same visit and Amy and I split them both. With the salad and rolls, we still ended up stuffed. LISTEN! I don't have any pictures. It the way we were TREATED WAS LIKE FAMILY! Me & my wife are knew to the area and live close! This is one of your if not favorite restaurant. We were looking for a place for a wedding rehearsal as we knew they didn't have a room it may have been tough! He gave us full ability to work and change with whatever menu we wanted to use or even take 5 entrees or however many as a set menu, or anything off the menu. We spoke about a sangria bar! They closed essentially the whole back of the restaurant for us! My family flew into town from NYC they treated us LIKE GOLD! I can't remember the 2 male waiters!
