I did not eat much of the lasagna but only because it just wasn't a blended meat sauce & it just wasn't my taste in sauce. Hubby and I had a date night out and we had been to this spot a few years back and decided to go back as we absolutely loved it the first time. We didn't have reservations so no tables were available, however the hostess directed us to the bar and honestly we love sitting at the bar as much as a table and we took her up on that offer. From the hostess who periodically checked on us, to the bartender who was the owners' son, to the owner himself, Rocky. Each person made sure we had everything we wanted or needed and owner was so funny and kind, telling us jokes and even showing us his card tricks. We truely felt like family. Food: 10/10 SO GOOD !! We shared the Oysters Rockefeller which were amazing, juicy and flavorful. Ceasar salad was great and both my main dish and my husband's dish were to die for! Service wasn't good, we were stuffed into a tiny table in a loud back room where everyone who walked by us had to brush up against us. Then the food came, presentation looked like a frozen meal they had just heated up and the taste was about the same. All of this for a $200 bill. I would honestly rather eat at Olive Garden. Visited here numerous times. Food and service has always been excellent. My only concern is that they need to replace the hostess with someone who can better handle the pressure of dealing with customers. The hostess who has greeted us upon every visit often tries to seat us first in the highest traffic tables (not preferable) and gets visibly out of sorts when we request a booth or table elsewhere. This has occurred multiple times. Also her cordless phone is really loud and disturbing to guests near the entrance. Bottom line: I recommend they replace the hostess with someone who is flexible and able to smile and treat guests with honor instead of as a mild inconvenience. read more

We were visiting Greenville during my wife's Birthday so I reserved a table for us and family at Davani's. We arrived a few minutes early and our friendly hostess seated us right away. The inside is old school elegant with dimmed lighting, white table cloths and lots of wood trim. They have a nice selection of wines as well. There is also a nice sized bar that is very well stocked. I ended up ordering a lobster plate that was very good. They brought my wife a complimentary birthday ice cream bowl. Nice place for dinner! read more

First time visiting this restaurant. We decided to try something new for valentines weekend and choose this restaurant. Making the reservation was extremely easy. The restaurant is intimate, and decorated in a more upscale decor. We were met at the door by a hostess and sat at a table. Our waiter was Phi, he was phenomenal. The absolute best part about this visit. We started the night with salad and soup. The wedge is massive and good ( they do not offer all dressing options). Their soup de jour was oyster chowder. My husband greatly enjoyed it. We each ordered off their specials list and we both got sea bass with crab cake it was served with broccolini and risotto. All was delicious. They have an assortment of desserts and we chose the mango sorbet and the cheesecake. The sorbet was awesome. The cheesecake was crustless and my husband loved it. Although he wishes it had been served with a coulis. I don't know if we will go back to this restaurant again, but it is a nice option for upscale Italian/Mediterranean. read more

This is NOT an over the top Italian restaurant; it is a nice restaurant serving good food. The restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. We arrived (5:45 for a 6:00 reservation) and the hostess asked us if it was a special occasion and we told her we were celebrating our anniversary. The restaurant wasn't close to capacity at this time (lots of empty tables), yet she chose to sit us at the table at the very front of the restaurant. It was loud and every time the door opened a blast of cold air rushed in and over us, it was in the 20's outside. The Food: Appetizers, Oysters Rockefeller tasted fine but it was barely warm. The Wagyu meatballs were good but tasted like regular meatballs, nothing special there. The bread wasn't warm and didn't appear to be baked in house, it was just plain white bread. The salads were just that salads, nothing in particular stood out. Our entrees were fine, my wife had seafood and pasta and I had the veal marsala, again they were fine but nothing special in comparison to any other decent Italian restaurant. Bottom line: Decent restaurant and prices are fair. If you are looing for a local Italian restaurant with ok food, this is the place for you. If you are looking for an exceptional dining experience, there are plenty of better options out there. read more

Respectfully, I don't understand how this place has a four star rating? It smells like your grandma's house and looks like it could have been fancy in 1998. To top it all off, the food was painfully mediocre. The calamari was a little tough, the marinara had no depth and was devoid of any flavor, the meatballs were overcooked as well, and I've had better lasagna at Olive Garden. Their bread looks and tastes like the most stale loaf plucked from a Harris Teeter bakery. Our server, Tyler, was pretty absent and didn't seem particularly kind or personable. Davani's is the quintessential Italian restaurant every place needs. They make everything from scratch and it is prepared perfectly. Coming from Philadelphia/NYC burbs this means top notch bolognese meat sauce, offering clam sauce (both red/white) and of course chicken parm and lasagna. The escargot en crout is an amazing hard to find starter, and the chocolate moose marquis is actually best I've ever had (I don't particularly ever order desserts like this). Service is friendly accurate and efficient. Do the trifecta of Greenville and go to Trattorio Giorgio, Jianna and Davani for authentic Italian, Northern Seafood Italian, and traditional Red Sauce Italian offerings. read more

I am not from the area and was brought here by a family member. I was able to briefly meet the owners and had take out. While inside the restaurant was small, but a perfect size for a warm intimate dinner for two or for a family night with multiple parties. The noise level was great and the meal choices were plentiful. The quality of the food was excellent. Our takeout was hot and fresh and delicious. Great for a date night! The space is romantic and the service was great. You could tell everyone worked as a team there and if you needed anything you stop anyone. We started off with some cocktails and they brought warm bread out. For dinner I got the Duck, which was cooked perfectly and the taste was great. My date got the 8oz steak and it was decent. What a great little hidden gem. It is tucked away in a strip mall, and I have been by it 100 times without thinking much about it. On a recommendation of a friend, we went in with some friends. Once inside you feel like you are in a high end restaurant anywhere in the US. The strip mall disappears. We had too nice bottles of wine (4 people), some calamari and entrées. The wine was awesome. The calamari was crispy and tasty. Everyone was very happy with their meal. I split a wedge salad with my wife and the dressing was awesome and had a nice pile of bacon on the side. I had veal marsala. It was nicely done. The meat was cooked perfectly, the sauce had tons of flavor and it was on a pile of mashed potatoes. I would have preferred pasta, but did not read the menu closely. That being said, the potatoes were great and the plate looked like I licked it clean when I was finished. Tried this place last night based on other reviews and them calling themselves "fine dining." Veal marsala had a small piece of veal, made with canned mushrooms- the appearance and pickled taste unmistakable' served with almost cold mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. Grew up in an Italian household and cook some myself, we never had mashed potatoes with something like this. Beware, menu does not mention the sides. Shrimp and scallops in the "Provencale" were small and overcooked. Overall a huge disappointment. I will recommend local restaurants all day long. I understand the struggle right now. I feel for the service industry as a whole! I work in it daily and am personally invested as well. However... Davani's Restaurant is NOT something I would ever recommend. We walked in at 9, the restaurant closed at 10. We'd already had appetizers somewhere else and immediately told the waiter that we understood it was an hour before closing and would be quick. We ordered quickly, we got White Truffle Porcini ravioli and Veal Marsala. The ravioli was in a heavily lemon sauce, no truffle. Waiter asked me if I liked it and I was honest. It's not what I thought and heavily lemon flavored. He offered to take it back (mind you reluctantly) I said no no it's ok, it's late I don't want the kitchen to have to remake it. We still chatted and enjoyed the rest of the time. The waiter went back to the open kitchen, called us assholes, and then brought the manager over and explained. The manager peaked out while I was looking and looked at me. He said NOTHING. Waiter comes back asks us if we want dessert and we say no. Manager is back at the bar now drinking. We pay and start to walk out. The manager says "have a nice night" as we unlock the door and he comes behind us to lock the door. Says nothing else. It's 10pm, I get it, you want to be done but you not only lost a customer but you pushed one out the door that was overly understanding of your circumstances and did not choose to fix the situation. I rarely post negative reviews because I work in the industry. I really don't think it's fair without talking to the staff, manager, or owner First. In this case we weren't welcomed when we walked in and were continued to not be welcomed as we sat and ate what turned out to be a not so great meal. Located in a strip mall the outside is a basic store front.... but as soon as you walk in the door you enter an old school, true New York or Chicago Italian restaurant.... the fragrance of sautéed garlic, table after table (social distance style... of course) filled with happy guests enjoying truly the most delicious food I have had in years.... Jennifer our server was perfect... super sweet and very knowledgeable. Celebrating my Moms 88th birthday she was treated to a wonderful cannoli and a visit with the owner. My husband and I wanted to enjoy a nice anniversary dinner on June 1 at Davani's because we had enjoyed a good company-Christmas party experience there several years earlier. Not so this time. Even thought they knew in advance from our online reservation that it was our anniversary, the host seated us at a tiny table, up against the wall, at the end of the 'party room' and it wasn't romantic in the least. The food was good and service adequate, but soon the room was full and noisy. The other part of the restaurant was empty, so we assumed that we weren't seated there because they didn't want to walk too far to serve us. Our table was so close to the big table next to us, the server's derrierre was practically on our table when she served them. When my husband complained to the manager as we were leaving, she wasn't concerned at all. Wow, have lived about 1 mile from this gem for 3 years and finally tried it tonight. It was packed, no reservation, but they made it work, got two seats at the bar. Super nice, all locals and super nice people. Maddie the barkeep was exceptional and the food was GREAT - and we are originally from north Jersey where Italian food is a religion. By recommendation, I had the Penne Vodka Pasta - OMG - so good. Best version of this dish I have ever eaten. Great balance with just the right spice. Met the owner Rocky, what a great fella! Made a last minute reservation while in town for a bachelorette. Needed a table for 7 on a Friday so I knew that was a stretch & I happened to come across them on open table and....WOW. I CANNOT thank Davani's enough for their accommodations! From the private table in the wine room, to the smooth last minute reservation, to the incredible food and also having a bottle of champagne for the bride to be upon arrival. Everything was just perfect and I cannot tell you how many times the bride to be and our group of girls said "this is just the best! how did you find this place? This is so perfect!" I even made a point to mention to our incredible server, how wonderful the service was and how welcome we felt. She said she's been there for 15+ years and you can truly tell, this is a family place. Great customer service and romantic atmosphere. I ordered a seafood pasta dish, was unable to enjoy it because it was saturated with red pepper flake, way too spicy. I love spice, but not to the point that it is a distraction from tasting the other ingredients. I generally am not a fan of reviews because I often feel that people make things personal... but after my experience at Davani's, I now understand why a person would take the time to write and share a review. This was my fourth time visiting Davani's over the course of three months. My husband and I had dinner here, and enjoyed it... so we brought family back to share the experience. Although the food was consistently good, it felt like something was missing. The waiters each time, were very cold- lacking personality. And, the owners (we've seen both the husband and wife) were never quite friendly. We noted that, unlike Hall's Chophouse (who provides dynamic customer service), the owners of Davani's walked by our table multiple times without so much as a glance. Last night was particularly awful. We had to ask the server to remove our appetizer plates. We then TWICE had to ask her for water... and there were lengthy spaces when she couldn't be found at all. My sister ordered the lasagna, and I ordered the chicken piccata. And while she quite enjoyed her lasagna, my piccata left a lot to be desired. I wanted to instantly share this feedback with the server... but once she left the food at our table, she disappeared again. When she finally returned to the table, I told her about my meal, and she reluctantly took it away. She provided no solution... luckily before she left the table, my sister chimed in and said to me' perhaps you want something else.' She left and approached the manager, Rocky. Who was standing near the bar (directly behind our table). I heard her tell him that I was displeased with my food, and watched him peak around her shoulder to look at my table. I thought that he would surely approach the table to check in, but I was wrong. He walked by us, no less than four times without even a glance our way. We knew then, that this was the LAST TIME that we would patronize Davani's. As a person who understands and has worked in the customer service business, the personal touch goes a long way. It is one of the reasons that we have no problem patronizing Hall's and are always happy to pay the check! Although the food wasn't great yesterday, a simple check-in/apology from the manager would have far outweighed any complaint that I might have had. Also, to add insult to injury, we were charged for the replacement meal. I do hope that the owners/managers of Davani's realize that Greenville is full to bursting with dining establishments, and that most people like their good food paired with good service. Unfortunately, the mussels were fishy, steak sauce for the filet too salty, and sea bass undercooked though. Went there for New Years...let me start by saying nothing was the fault of the server. Meal advertised on website not available. Steak was over cooked and not as ordered. Owner came over and totally ignored our complaints to the point of being combative and saying "fuck them" after we had paid $600 for a meal for 6. Not OK. He was totally belligerent as well as combative about the meal. Would NEVER darken their door again. Very sad as we had been there before and had a wonderful experience.
