In the 10 years, I'm living here. I've must've been Positano's 30 times but, now I know why I haven't been back in over a year. The food last night was extremely mediocre. The service was good and the ambience lovely however, the reason to keep going back to a restaurant is the food. 10/21/23 We came to celebrate my in-laws birthday, (where do I start?) the restaurant was empty for a Saturday evening, we were the only table of 8 besides a couple who sat next to us. The music did not match the atmosphere of anything it made it worse (boring). The first half the A/C appeared to be off (I guess they're trying to save electricity) but was turned on because we were about to walk out. The bread was served with packaged butter and the food took forever to be served. We brought a small cake and asked the server to bring out the cake after dinner to be served as a surprise cake for my in-law.. we waited patiently after dinner for the cake to come and had to signal the waitress. She then approaches our table and ask if we needed anything to only ruin the surprise. She then brings the cake without the candles and placed it in front of my in-law to then stumble lighting up the candles. (Horrible)! The food was okay and over priced!!! The service was a joke! Me and me wife decide to try Positano by friends recommended. The staff is highly friendly, The owners, Vinni and Claudia let us feeling like home. The Seafood have definitely no competition around Miami, maybe Florida. The Carpaccio di polipo and the Calamari is simple and great at same time, as the Italian tradition says. I was staying alone in Doral for the first time and decided to try a local Italian restaurant. Positano turned out to be a great choice. The exterior was not very impressive or inviting but the interior was pleasant with a wall of wine display and white table-clothed tables with seating for 50 or so. As I was in a bit of a rush, I quickly ordered the Fried Calamari Lasagna and glass of Chianti. Everything was great. Food was fresh and well prepared. The server was pleasant but not overbearing. Appetizer, entree, glass of wine, large bottle of water: $44. Plus tip. Excellent choice for good Italian food in the Doral area. read more

Came here with my in-laws after they recommended the place. Seems like this restaurant started in Venezuela and they expanded to Doral [some might say a natural progression for Venezuelans ;)] We practically opened the place, we had to ask at the door if they were open and they hesitantly said ..."uhhh yes". We caught them at the minute they were opening. Anyways we were hungry and we had the restaurant to ourselves. Good. Their specialty is Fettuccine a la Ruota, which means they prepare it inside a wheel or parmigiano reggiano to infuse the cheese flavor in their homemade pasta. I had to have it, and it is fantastic. (Added chicken to it but the chicken needed some seasoning - I didn't care for it...the pasta is where it's at). We also had some burratta and prosciutto and a cheese plate with olives. It was a bit pricey but darn it....it was worth it! The service was a bit weird but meh. It's fresh pasta! Made in a gigantic cheese wheel! What are you waiting for? read more

We came here on a Tuesday night. And much to my surprise, this large place was empty except for one other table. I have no idea why. Is it the location? From the outside, the place looks tiny, and the strip mall it is in doesn't look great. PROS: - lovely canal view from the patio (but then again I saw this only at night so maybe in the day there may be an unsightly view of something?) - perfect pasta dishes, cooked al dente as it should be. I loved the truffle ravioli. CONS: - salad was overdressed in thick sauce, American style. - televisions? That takes away the romantic charm, even if it's playing music hits. Hey, from the outside it looks very "simple", but it was nicely decorated and had a cute outside terrace facing a small lake, White table cloth, real rose in a small vase, fancy plates and silverware. Good first impression. But let's talk about food, that's what really matters. We ordered the Spaghetti Vongole, Vitello alla Milanesa and the Scalopini Positano. All three were very very good. Pasta "al dente", good seasonings, generous portions. Two glasses of the house Pinot Grigio rounded off dinner. Service was good, no complaints. Only caveat (that's why it is not a 5* right now): the prices are a bit high, taking in consideration that you are in Doral and not Coral Gables, where the upscale surroundings and the fashion statements prevail and justify "premium" pricing. Found this place through Yelp. I had high hopes based on some of the reviews here. This place disappointed in almost every way. I ordered the house specialty which is fettuccine prepared in a wheel of Parmesan. It's amazing how bland it is. It needs salt and pepper. Neither are on the table. I could tell by the little things that this place wasn't going to be good: brown and serve bread with butter packets, canned Lipton tea... Lazy. The pasta seems to be home made and perfectly cooked... Too bad it's soaking in this bland, tasteless cream sauce. Nice people (if that matters). We found this new restaurant in the Doral News. The decor is wonderful and I was surprised to find the logo on all the flatware. The owner sparred no expense in establishing a very high end Italian ristorante. The wine was served in extra large classes to air out chianti and draw out its full flavor. The best kept secret is the Fettuccine Alla Ruota. The noodles are hand made. They are cooked and tossed into a real Parmesan cheese wheel. The chef mixes the noodles and scoops out the warmed fresh cheese from the 2 ft diameter wheel to create a mouth watering creme sauce. This incredible signature dish is only $12! Friday nights they have live music. The natural view over the lake from the back window makes you forget your in Doral. I look forward to the cooler winter weather to enjoy the patio seating overlooking the lake. what a nice surprise in my backyard. I pass by this place all the time and i had never been here before. so i had bought a restaurant.com coupon and we came to use this evening. we got here around 7 when the sun was still out but starting to sunset, we sat outside in the patio and it was really nice. service was decent and the food was incredible. we started with the calamari positano and it comes with a marinara sauce with jalapenos not spicy and an alfredo cheese sauce, delicious. Then i had the fettuccini carbonara awesome and my hubby had the fettucini ruota which was really good and he finished off with an expresso. I definitely cant wait to go back. read more

We were in the area and a friend recommended this place. I checked yelp reviews and I wasn't sure, but we decided to give it a try. Also, there was a coupon in yelp, pay $55 for $100 value. Since groupons and similar are usually active 24 later, we decided to ask at the restaurant before buying it. What a surprise: they told us, we could use it, so I bought and enjoyed a delicious meal. We all 3 had the Fettuccine Ruota as a side, which is a pasta, in a cream based sauce in a parmigiano cheese wheel. One of us had it with beef tenderloin in a mushroom sauce, another with shrimp and myself with sea bass. All were amazing and we really like their menu flexibility. My husband and I were craving italian food on a friday night so we googled local italian restaurants and came across this one. What a hidden gem! We walked in and fell in love with the decor and couldnt help but noticed a giant parmesan wheel on the counter. It was for their famous Fettucine alla Ruota!!! Of course, being first timers, we ordered it...and we were definitely not disappointed! The pasta was so fresh and the fettucine sauce with freshly shaven parmesan cheese was to die for! We also ordered the Carpaccio di Carne as an app and it was incredible. The service was impeccable--from the waiter to the bus boys. I think this little gem in a small shopping plaza just found some new costumers in town! We can't wait to go back! We were aproached by either the manager or the owner and we suggested to do the Fettucine all Ruota presentation sidetable. He smiled and says, "we just ordered a cart for it!". Yay! First time here came for lunch. Service was good. Fish of the day (Corvina) very fishy although the veges were good. Pasta with mushrooms good but very buttery. For dessert we tried the chocolate mousse - would not recommend, nice presentation but tasted more like almonds than chocolate. Also tried the panna cotta that was actually pretty good. read more

I took my wife to this restaurant recently as Positano is one of her favorite places in the world and the reviews were good. We really liked the place. We ordered an appetizer that wasn't great, but not bad either. The entrées were pastas and they were delicious. The walls are decorated with paintings and pictures from Positano and Italy in general and it looks nice. I would get rid of the TVs, though. I did notice that the place was empty, even on a saturday night. We were the only ones dining inside and there was another couple outside, in the back, which has a canal view. Probably due to the fact that is has been open for about 2 years only, but still. Also, there's another italian restaurant really close, and that might have its effect too. Anyway, it will be great if business picks up and the place survives. I would recommend it if you're looking for good pasta in the area. read more

The service in any restauarnt should not be compromised by the number of reserved tables. Last night was Valentine's day and they had a full house. ( about 20 tables)The service was not as we expected. Their stock in wine was low, they didnt have my first selection, and they only had one bottle of my second selection, so we had to settle for similar wine. During the course of the night we had to constantly ask the server to bring water or wine. He would only pour the first glass and forget about us. Our appetizer order was taken 40 minutes after we arrived. Our server took four orders and walked away forgertting to take two more orders. We had to call the bus boy and asked him to place the rest of the order. All six appetizers were very well presented and delicious. Five stars to that . Our meals came around 100 minutes after we arrived, the bus boy said the kitchen was very busy that night. My lobster raviolis were cold , probably sitting somewherein the kichen and no presentation whatsoever. The other 5 meals were much, much better. The pasta seemed fresh and very hot. I enjoyed more sampling the other meals than mine. Four stars for that. The restaurant doesn't have a dessert menu, so went with the server's recommendation. The Tiramisu came in a plastic container like the ones you buy in a the supermarket. one star for dessert. During the course of our meals, not even one waiter came to our table and asked if our meals were ok or if we needed anything. That is not acceptable. At the end ,we made one waitier aware of this and his reply was " I'm sorry, but we are just too busy tonight, would you like a complimentary drink?" Zero stars for service. The restaurant had live music that night which was very entertaining and made us forget about the poor service. Maybe i recommend this place for take out food only. There are many other places in Doral worth coming back , but not this one. read more

This is a REALLY fancy place (for Doral) and adorable at night as it is situated on the water. The restaurant was really empty and the service was kind of slow, but the food was pretty delicious, even though our orders came out a tad mistaken. We were a little disappointed that there was no pizza on the menu and that the adjacent pizzeria was closed - on a Saturday night. I have to say, though, that they allowed our party to come in even though we were dressed like fools (we came from the nearby trampoline park) which was really nice of them, since everyone else in the restaurant was a bit more dressed up. read more

Viewed menu online before we went and were excited to have a whole wheat pizza, but when we arrived was told they were out of the whole wheat crust, they were also out of their black crust and the green crust as well, even though our waitress had no idea what the black and green crust were made out of.. So we ordered 2 seared tuna salads off their menu. She then told us we should just go next door, because the salads on their menu were actually from the restaurant next door and aren't made there. I told her no because we came to this restaurant to use our dailysaver.com deal I had purchased. So out come the salads, but with no tuna, no protein at all, just the lettuce with a dressing and some figs.. I said "there is no tuna on here" she said oh I didn't know, they must be out.. Then said, well the coupon shouldn't be any good anyway since we were just ordering salads, even though the salads are on their menu which was my argument.. My suggestion was she offer us a different protein from their restaurant to top our salad with so we settled on prosciutto after arguing about it. She still charged us the full amount of the seared tuna salad which was 10.95, for a place of lettuce with some thin ham and a lot of headache.. Not going back. read more
