    Spaghettios w hotdog

As a non-skier child of the 90's enjoying a weekend in Stowe, this is the perfect spot to talk the talk even though I can't ski the ski . Field Guide Lodge is such a cute boutique hotel , evoking the funky charm of an 80's/90's ski romp movie. Après only was cozy and nostalgic, with one of the aforementioned ski nostalgia movies playing in the background. As a foodie I hate to admit this, but the canned spaghettios with a hotdog served in fun old school Campbell's mug may have been the best thing I ate that weekend. I plan to stay there next time I visit and enjoy Après after not skiing .

A Masterclass in Deception. Do Not Be Fooled by the 4.5 Stars…read more My wife and I came here expecting a special dinner based on glowing reviews. What we got was a textbook tourist trap with a view. Yes, the setting is gorgeous. Vermont mountains in the distance, open-air ambiance, cozy lighting. But once the food hits the table, the charm dies fast. I ordered the grilled chicken. What arrived was three thin slices of poultry on a puddle of sauce, garnished with a few microgreens. It looked more like a sample than a $44 entrée. My wife's "Gnudi" was overpowered by a bitter green sauce, rubbery in texture, and she couldn't finish it. I ended up eating both meals just to feel like I had dinner, but left still hungry. We ended up grabbing pizza afterward because we felt completely ripped off. The bill? $80 before tip. For what amounts to two appetizers. No drinks, no dessert, no extras. To add insult to injury: they charge you $25 per person if you cancel a reservation. That should have been our first red flag. This restaurant survives off its view and inflated reputation. The food is nowhere near the quality or portion size you'd expect at this price point. The 4.5-star rating is wildly misleading and risks conning more travelers like us. We left upset, unsatisfied, and shocked that this place gets away with calling itself fine dining. Save your money and your evening. Go somewhere that cares more about the plate than the patio.

Ventured from Southern New Hampshire to do a little Christmas shopping in the White Mountains…read more Needed a halfway point for a late lunch. Found this gem on Yelp. Old style Tavern/pub. The first thing we noticed when we walked in the door was that Christmas smacked us in the face with the best smelling Christmas Tree candle , burning in a super cute entryway. I could hardly wait to get inside to see what else this place had in store. First, there was a fireplace and a couch and a table. In the rest of the dining area, we're all high tops. Not so high that a barely over 5 foot person such as myself couldn't sit comfortably. Our waitstaff (there were two) and were great about offering menu suggestions when I shared flavor profiles I might be looking for and they were attentive and so pleasant. They had super cute Christmas decorations, and were putting up more while we were there. The vibe is super warm and welcoming, and for a short while you feel like you stepped back in time. The tiramisu martini was delicious, as was the blood orange martini. I had the cauliflower with juju sauce at the recommendation of the waitress, and it was honestly the best cauliflower I've ever had! My husband enjoyed his macaroni and cheese with buffalo and bleu as well. The owner/chef, Leslie, came and chatted with us for a little bit before we were on our way. We learned that in the summer they hold concerts, and they have a golf course. There is a distillery on site as well. Everything about this place was excellent, and we are already planning a day date to go back and try more menu items!

You can choose from bar seating, indoor tables, or outdoor spots with a perfect breeze. There's even a big street-side table that's ideal for bachelorette groups or larger parties. The whole space feels elevated, cozy, and a little magical. Drinks: The cocktail menu is insanely creative and the pours are generous. Their espresso martini is one of my all-time favorites... I stop in for one every single time I'm in Lake Placid. It's that good. Food: I think about this food at least once a week. The menu is built around shareable small plates, making it the perfect pre-dinner cocktail hour spot for your travel crew. Order a couple of drinks and a few bites while you take in the lake views before your dinner reservation. My personal must-orders: the charcuterie board and the mac and cheese. Unreal. Price: It's on the pricier side, but genuinely worth every penny. For the quality, the atmosphere, and those views? Not overpriced at all.

We left so glad that we picked it! The restaurant is small with a limited number of high tops inside, a bar, and a few tables outside. The decorations and vibes are adorable. We were impressed from start to finish. Peter, our waiter, was friendly and chatty (without being too chatty), which we really appreciated, and he definitely nailed small-town Vermont charm. One of us ordered the Salty Chihuahua drink. It was tasty and very well priced. One of us started with a small green salad which was loaded with olives and feta- yum!! There was not a single bite of food that wasn't delicious. It blew us away. We ordered three entrees: chicken sliders, grande salad, and a special: the summer squash skillet, which we added meatballs to. We will be talking about and figuring out what was in those meatballs for years to come. The dishes were on the smaller side, but the prices reflect the amazing quality of the food. We are three New Yorkers with lots of opinions and high standards when it comes to what we eat. Brix exceeded those standards. We have a ski condo on Stratton and don't often make the drive into Rutland, but any time we do, it's guaranteed we will be eating at Brix.

Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. From the moment we sat down, the attitude from behind the bar set the tone in the worst way. The older woman tending bar was openly dismissive, rolled her eyes at simple questions about the menu, and made us feel like we were inconveniencing her every time we ordered a drink or asked for something basic like water or silverware. No greeting, no smile, and zero effort to be even minimally polite. At one point she dropped drinks in front of us without a word and walked away before we could even ask for what was missing. It's a shame, because the kitchen clearly cares, but the experience at the bar completely overshadowed how good the food was. If ownership ever addresses the front-of-house attitude, this could be a fantastic place, but until then, be prepared for excellent plates paired with some truly miserable service.
