    Ring of fire!!!
    Sebastian B.

This hotel inside the Residents Inn. I'm staying at the Hampton inn adjacent to that property. I decided to stay local tonight and found the place on Yelp and saw people on a deck across from my hotels entrance and wondered what was going on up there. It's a hip fun busy cool pace that's what's up there. I found my way through the hotel and walked into this black marble and modern decor dining room with a circular sushi bar right in the middle. I sat down at the sushi bar and found these guys are remarkable Itamae. I went for the Ring of Fire roll and it blew me away. So good I had to try another. The scrumptious roll was just that SCRUMPTIOUS!!! So glad I found Arterra and enjoyed some classy Sab Diego sushi.

Unfortunately Chef Andrew was on vacation the week I stayed on property as I had great memories the year before when I had eaten twice during the week I was there. Ended up ordering 3 rolls, one hand roll with a chaser to the end the night with a pear salad.

We ate here twice during our stay at the hotel. This is the only restaurant in the hotel and they have a bar attached, serving breakfast lunch and dinner. We got take out kids menu burger here once (the burger was full sized, not sure what was kids about it) and it was great. Our toddler loved it. For breakfast here in the morning I went with a salmon Benedict with breakfast potatoes and it was good. Ordered an oatmeal for my daughter and the bowl was huge. It could easily feed a few people! Service was a little slow but food was decent. Would have liked to try out the sushi bar but maybe another time. Thanks Arterra!

Lovely hotel restaurant. Food was delicious. Mindy took good care of us. We would return.

Andrew makes the best sushi . Besides the delicious food options the service is excellent. I would highly recommend this place.

Andrew made the best sushi. Besides the amazing food at this restaurant that's inside the Marriott the service was on point. I highly recommend coming here if you're visiting or if you're local.

This is a hotel restaurant but nice ambiance and servers are always nice. We stayed at this hotel a few times and eaten breakfast here or gotten a drink. The drinks are good and the breakfast is solid. Nothing crazy good but Standard breakfast, fresh squeezed OJ. They get super busy on weekends and if they have a busy hotel that week... prepare to be patient for your food and service. We once waited 40 minutes for food not including like 15 min just waiting to get our order taken. When we go to SD area it's not for business and leisurely so we had time. If the hotel is not swamped food will be normal service waiting times. We have gotten their egg Benedict and standard eggs and toast. Also had their avocado toast in the past.

Tried the Ask Chef Andrew Roll, and surprisingly it was pretty good for sushi in a hotel. Chef Andrew definitely knows what he is doing and you can tell by all the regulars he has as well. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area. I also had the short rib fries from the restaurant and enjoyed that as well. The fries were still nice and crispy. It's a pretty spacious restaurant with plenty of seating. The bar also has plenty of seating. Servers and bar tenders are also very friendly.

We love this place! Don't be afraid to come into the hotel and have a nice dinner at Arterra, which is located within the Marriott Hotel. Incredible sushi and equally amazing drinks. The hotel smells like is Issey Miyake perfume when you walk in, very Vegas! Excellent service too. Plenty of parking out front or in their garage.

    Philly and Scrumptious rolls.
    Lina P.

So, is hotel food any good? It was actually quite good, but also still left me feeling craving more. I had a Philly roll and a Scrumptious roll. I can agree that both were indeed scrumptious. Not like mind blowing, but delicious. Our server was very kind and considerate. The ambiance is chill. I sat at the bar, but could've picked a table. The place was pretty empty looking, but maybe because we were early. For a restaurant inside a hotel, it was quite good. Prices are on the higher side for the amount of food, but I suppose it is okay not to overeat sometimes. If you are staying at the Del Mar Marriott, may as well eat here since you already paid for parking.

Is there outdoor dining options? Is it open for lunch?

How busy does it get on Saturday nights?

Our busiest nights are usually weekdays, but it really just depends on our occupancy at the hotel.

Do you park in the parking garage? Is it easy to find the entrance to the restaurant in the hotel?

Yes, restaurant parking is in the garage. We validate up to 3 hours. Upon walking into the lobby of the Marriott, you will see Arterra directly in front of you.

He was also happy to accommodate my request to sit away from other guests, as I wasn't exactly in the mood to enjoy my dinner with someone else's conversation as background music. Unfortunately, by the end of my meal, I somehow ended up sandwiched between two parties anyway. So much for my quest for solitude. I spent a good few minutes debating between the roasted eggplant and the udon noodle soup. Since I had already committed to starting with the hot and sour soup, I decided to go with the eggplant as my entrée. Seeing as it was essentially a vegetable claypot, I figured I'd probably want a side of rice. Then I saw the price. Five dollars. For white rice. Um... does it come sprinkled with 24-karat gold flakes? Is each grain hand-selected by monks in the Himalayas? I audibly gasped and did a full-on Pikachu shock face. Considering a side of rice is usually around two bucks at most restaurants, this left me shivering timbers. Price aside, the roasted eggplant absolutely delivered. It arrived bubbling away in a scorching hot claypot, filling the table with an incredible aroma before I even took my first bite. The eggplant was perfectly tender and packed with flavor without being overly heavy. I ordered it at the mild spice level, which was just right for me, and happily packed up the leftovers to enjoy the next day. The sticker shock over the rice was real, but so was the quality of the food. Huge compliments to the kitchen for such a delicious eggplant dish and thank you to my sweet server Michael for the warm, attentive service. Maybe one day I'll splurge and find out what makes that rice so special.

Shortly after I arrived, the food was delivered. She was happy with her chirashi bowl ($36), but I was extremely disappointed with my salmon "belly" sashimi. It was not salmon belly, and they charged me $24 for 4 skimpy pieces that were not fresh. It smelled and tasted fishy. The pieces were the same cut as what she got in her chirashi bowl, only her pieces were noticeably larger! I don't mind paying $6 a piece, if it were fresh and the cut slightly larger. After the disappointing pieces of salmon, I ended up just ordering agadashi tofu. In hindsight, I should've just had my daughter order that for me and skip the so-called salmon belly sashimi. This restaurant is very close to my office, and it's a convenient location to meet with my daughter after we both get off work, but given the low quality and high price of the sashimi, I'll have to find another place for us to meet after work when we want sushi. For me, this was an extremely disappointing experience, but since my daughter enjoyed her chirashi, I would give it an average score of 3 stars. It's definitely no longer a 5-star establishment. I think other people may have also caught on, because the restaurant was empty. At 7pm on a Tuesday, there were only 2 other tables, a party of 2 and party of 4 on either side of us. No one new came in while we were there ....and for good reason!

I don't really like the sausage since it was too salty in my opinion, but this tteok is actually kinda insane since it is just crispy enough on the outside and qq on the inside. The caramelized spicy/sweet sauce pairs quite well with the rice cake. This was maybe $5. Wings and Drums - 5/5 - I got the Yangnyeom and Spicy wings.
