Manhole pancake

Cute diner vibe with manhole sized pancake. Potatoes are worth the trip! It's nice there's a small parking lot on the side as well, if you're lucky you can snag a spot

Great food

We stopped at the Potato Shack for breakfast after a fun weekend in San Diego. I had French toast and bacon. My wife had the BLT and LOVED it. Our friend got the "Manhole-size" pancake. The food quality was fantastic and we all really enjoyed it. As a person who grew up in Encinitas, it was great to be back again and to enjoy some high quality food with good friends.

Good place to have breakfast and lunch. I ordered the two egg breakfast with 2 bacon and sausage patty with wheat toast and potato patties, bc they don't have hash browns. Breakfast was good with plenty of food. But Potato Shack should invest in hash browns. Wife got biscuits and gravy with steamed eggs and home fry potatoes. The service was very good and friendly. The waitress brought us salsa which was very good. Overall, I recommend this place for breakfast.

Perfect lunch spot!

Right off the main street towards the sough end of Encinitas, this little gem serves great food with really good service. Today i had the turkey burger and homemade fries. Fantastic and not bad for you. It is all so fresh, can't imagine how good breakfast must be... bit I'm sure other Yelpers have posted so always trust Yelp. I guess my favorite part of this place is easy parking and its quiet. Good little find!

We hadn't been here for years, and it was fun to come back for Sunday brunch after church. Limited street parking. Indoor and outdoor seating, you'll get seated faster if you say "first available". We were seated outside where luckily the sun was out warming us up. Breakfast and lunch served all day. I didn't catch our server's name, but she was very attentive and busily dashing from table to table to make sure all her customers were satisfied. We ordered a steak and eggs, a BLTA with fries, eggs over hard with bacon, and huevos rancheros with a side manhole choc chip pancake. The salsa on the side of the huevos rancheros was sufficiently spicy but the huevos rancheros themselves were rather bland. All other meals were yummy and satisfying.

Potato shack is an american breakfast restaurant that serves a variety of typical breakfast foods such as pancakes, omelets, eggs benedicts, etc. They also have bottomless potatoes depending on your order! Yum. For those who may not feel enticed for breakfast food, they also have a lunch menu with sandwiches and others! Important to note they everything is cash/venmo only which is a bummer for me. Service was great! Our waiter checked on us plenty of times. There are both indoor and outdoor seating as well. Park on the streets!

This restaurant had your classic dinner vibe and good food to match! The manhole pancakes are no exaggeration and are absolutely HUGE. I came with a very big group and the staff was super accommodating.

Such a cute place and excited I found it. Their biscuits and gravy hit the spot and their potatoes were perfectly seasoned. If I am back in the area, I will definitely go again. Definitely worth it.

Meeting with family, most from San Diego County. All the dishes looked delicious. My chicken sandwich with kitchen fries was outstanding. Talked with Scott who knows the family from years of patronage. Beautiful day to sit outside.Steve and Randy hadn't arrived yet when photo was taken.

We arrived at 10 on a Saturday, they were extremely busy and short staffed. However, we were seated in 20 minutes and got our food in 15! The waiter was extremely nice and apologized for the delay. The food was a bit on the pricier side, with the exception of the massive pancake, but delicious overall. I would definitely return in the future.

Mahi sandwich and club . Optional sides fruit, broccoli. And always great potato's.

Food is great, and large portions. So many options to suit most diet restrictions. Indoor and outdoor seating. Service is quick and efficient. Breakfast , brunch or lunch. CASH ONLY ATM ON SITE. Awesome local spot for friends, teams and family to meet.

This was half of the breakfast burrito

This was half of the breakfast burrito. It was delicious, we sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the morning. Service was excellent and our coffee was full. Love this place and will definitely be back!

$75 for a less than mediocre breakfast for a family of four and they don't take credit cards...enough said.

Not impressed. With a name like "Potato" Shack I would have thought the potatoes would have been much better.

Who doesn't love a good diner? Peek inside and the place looks like it stepped out of the distant…read morepast, maybe the 1950s or the 1960s. Surely they are masters at greasy bacon and eggs, day old coffee, and probably little else. Wrong. Very wrong. This place may look a little ordinary from the outside but there is nothing ordinary about it. It may look like a classic diner inside but it does not sling food like an old diner. The menu is well-written and the food is high quality, excellent, and borderline gourmet. Do not order eggs, bacon, and toast here. Swing for the cheap seats. We tried the Ham, Avocado and Tomato Eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was fantastic. If I didn't care about remaining somewhere under 350 pounds, I would return every Saturday and eat my way through every single eggs benedict concoction on the menu and there are many such benedict creations from which to choose. The Banana Nutella crepe, with "whip" cream (not "whipped," apparently, we're gentle with our cream here, folks), was decadent. If you like your breakfasts on the sweet side, you will enjoy this one. The Tres Porkitos omelet (made with ham, bacon, sausage, and cheese) was hearty and just as good as it sounds. The breakfast potatoes were very nicely done but could have used a little more seasoning. There is a salt shaker (and numerous hot sauces) on the table for just these types of emergencies. Do NOT leave here without getting a freshly-made biscuit with butter and honey on the side. You have made a serious error in judgment if you leave without getting one of these. Even the freshly-squeezed orange juice was delicious. Our server was wonderful. No complaints. They have dining inside or on the patio. Encinitas is a delightful community. While I loved the old school diner feel inside, you cannot go wrong with the people watching outside on one of our almost always sunny days in So Cal. If you live here, you already pay the Sunshine Tax so get your money's worth and sit outside, if you can. 10 stars.

I am very confused at the hype and reviews for this restaurant. It's an okay brunch spot at best…read more The attention for this place is driven by dishes catered towards Instagram and eating with your eyes, not the actual experience of eating with your hands and mouth. It's tough to get a table for a weekend noon. I booked our reservation a few weeks ahead of time. Parking is either near the train tracks across the street or on the curb. We got the egg dish and salad bowl. The yogurt for the eggs was deliciously spiced; dipping in the toasted bread into the gooey poached egg, creamy yogurt, and herbs was delicious! My issue with this dish were the herbs that were too large. Was I expected to stick a big piece of herb on my toast? The dish is saucy with the chili oil so my clothes were dirty with the oil covered herbs. Chop the herbs smaller for practicality! Another dish suffered from the execution. We got the bowl which I thought was going to be a grain bowl. Rather, it was a ridiculously-sized salad--as much leaves as a pack from the grocery store! There were toppings within like slices of avocado, pieces of orange, farro, and nuts. I felt like I was trying to treasure hunt to look for these pieces. The salad was comically oversized. It was dressed fine but suffered from the portion size. You could see this theme with the French toast too where you get 1/3 of a baked bread. I'm honestly confused by this chef who has amazing experience. Why do you construct dishes that are difficult and impractical to eat? Less is more. These dishes need extensive edits. How this place got Bib Gourmand is honestly surprising to me.
