I went into this Pot Belly this evening around 3 something to grab lunch. It was 3 staff members behind the counter. I stood there for a minute, and the manager even walked pass me. Hungry for lunch. Stopped in to this potbelly. I was the only person in line. Older female employee asks if I'm ready. I'm still deciding. 20 seconds later, she's asking again, being impatient. I'm deciding between 2 sandwiches. Now she's pressuring me. The only other customer walks up behind me. She rudely asks if I'm ready, I'm about to order, and she rudely asks the customer behind me what he wants. He's polite and asks me if it's okay to go ahead. At this point I've had it with the abrupt rude behavior of the employee and tell her I'm not buying lunch here and leave. There are plenty of options for lunch in this area. I won't be choosing Potbelly here anymore. Such extremely rude, impatient, customer service. For reference sake, I spent more time writing this review than deciding on my order before the employee was so rude with me. PS Panera, just around the corner, has great customer service. Cool little sandwich shop within walking distance of Westin in Alexandria VA Reminded me of a Firehouse sub shop w memorabilia posted on walls around inside. I got a sub that had artichoke heart Mediterranean I think. The idea is interesting but the reality is artichoke is too chewy for a sub. Other than this it was tasty about $20 for two no drink or chips. In addition to the normal fresh cookies at register there was product called Dream bar to add distinctiveness. I had an event at the Masonic Temple in Alexandria, Virginia last night and needed to grab a quick bite before I went. My son always talks about Potbelly and loves it so I thought I would give it a try since it was so close to my destination. I went into the shop. I was the only customer there. It was just after 6:00 PM. No one acknowledged me. I walked up to the counter, and there was a girl behind the counter and she just stared straight ahead and did not say a word to me. It was eerily quiet. She seemed like she was not in a very good mood. Finally, I asked her if I should order from her. She said "yeah"...and stared straight ahead. There was another woman who told her to at least say hello to me, and the girl snapped back "I did!" (she didn't). At this point, I just wanted to leave. But I needed to get something to eat and traffic was bad. I knew I had to get something here. I felt so uncomfortable. I told her I would like to have the turkey avocado sandwich. She asked me what kind of bread I wanted it on. I looked at the menu and didn't see anything listed so I asked her what kind of bread they had. She was really irritated and mumbled something and I did hear the word "wheat" so I opted for that. She picked up a bag, took out a piece of bread, and tossed the bread bag back on the counter. Again, I really wanted to leave because I felt like I was in the middle of something. She was clearly angry about something and I started to feel like I had done something. But really all I did was walk in and come up to the counter.The other woman told me to walk down to where the register was. So I did. The girl asked me what toppings I wanted. I was confused. (Again...I had never been to a Potbelly before...I just wanted the sandwich on the menu...) She pointed to a sign and I saw sauces so I told her I would have the garlic aïoli. I figured turkey avocado, and mayonnaise were enough for me to be able to eat it in the car and not make too much of a mess. She put my sandwich in the bag and gave it to me. Not saying a word and clearly angry about something. It was all so confusing...I didn't understand how your sandwiches work. I left and when I got into my car, took out the sandwich and realized it was just turkey, mayonnaise and bread. There was no avocado. I had just paid $13 for turkey, bread, and a bottle of water. And I honestly didn't really feel good about eating it but I needed to because my event was going to be ending at 9:30 and I knew I would be starving if I waited. I didn't want to go back inside and have to deal with the angry girl. It just wasn't worth it That was my only experience ever with one of your restaurants and honestly, I don't ever want to go back. I am not asking for anything. I know it's really hard to find quality people to work in restaurants anymore...anywhere really. I was raised in a restaurant and was in the service industry for 25 years. I don't need anybody to be my best friend when I walk in, but eye contact and maybe politeness is appreciated. Everyone who works there (never seen the same person twice) all seem like they hate life and you can't hear any of them across the counter and they don't bother themselves to speak up. Food quality is poor as well or I wouldn't have bothered to leave this review. Cookie I was excited about tasted like freezer and when I asked to swap it out the worker said "just grab another one" with a scowl on her face as she went back to what she was doing. I love Potbelly sandwiches, but I've had waaay too many bad experiences with the staff at this restaurant. They generally give off an attitude that they're unhappy being there and that you're inconveniencing them by ordering. They have begged me for tips. The nail in the coffin was one day when they were busy, I had placed an online order for a single sandwich and 45 minutes later it was still not ready. The staff were running around like chickens with their heads cutoff. I finally asked to cancel my order, and the "gentleman" behind the register assured me he would take care of it after the rush. Ms.Lisa and the morning crew really came through in the clutch for my Wednesday morning lunch meeting. I needed an order for 15ppl., it was already close to 10:30am and my lunch was at 11:45am in Clinton. I was on the verge of cancelling, until I walked into Potbelly's. What's funny is I initially called the Arlington location. I spoke to the manager and told her I'm here, I'll come inside to finish my order (I was parking and I wanted to come in and look at the menu). However, I had driven to the Alexandria location, smh. I walked in asked for the manager, Lisa came out and I asked if we could finish my order. She said "I didn't speak with you this morning." Now aim panicking, lol. This was our first time here. It BLOWS Subway out of the water. The bread was delicious! We placed an order online and then walked a few blocks to pick up. All employees were wearing masks. Our order was clearly labeled on the shelf. The bag was nice and hot. We customized both sandwiches and they got the order perfect. Everything was delicious and fresh. We signed up for rewards and got a free cookie. Sorry no pic. The husband got to it before I could snap a photo. But trust me, chocolate brownie cookies are everything you need! This place is not what it used to be. At this point, I'm not sure how sanitary this location is. My office ordered for a catered event and the food and service was absolutely horrible. After a year or so I decided to give them another chance because they are in the area and I didn't expect a simple soup and sandwich combination to be so disgusting. The soup was dried up and the server decided to give me the dried up soup along with what was left in the bottom which was one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen and just from the look of it thing I don't know why you would think this was OK to serve to a paying customer. I also got a chicken salad sandwich and the same server made the sloppiest sandwich. Half of the meat was wrapped up in the paper and not actually on the bread and half of it was balled into a knot as he wrapped the sandwich. The paper and the bag was wet with sandwich toppings, and he just tossed it across the counter. Needless to say I won't be returning even if you do give me another free coupon to come back and have my sandwich remade because this place is not up to par. I can clearly tell that most of the people that work there can't stand that job so maybe that's the first thing to address if you even care about satisfied customers. Grabbed a late lunch on a Monday after flying in to DC and getting settled in my hotel in Alexandria. I walked here from the hotel - quaint neighborhood. Deeply disappointed with this order. We are loyal customers who come here regularly but today's order was made very poorly. The meatball marinara was incomplete with only dry meatballs and no sauce, cheese, or seasoning. Our Italian sub was missing cheese and onions. Neither sub was cut, which is atypical. It felt like our order was made haphazardly. Usually have a much better experience. Could not even go back or talk to anyone at the store because by the time we got home to eat the shop was closed. Used to love this place. Past 3 months it has fallen apart. Sandwich is either lacking lettuce or they just dump hot peppers on.
