Stopped by Potbelly on a dreary Sunday morning in the District for brunch before heading to Union Station for the train ride home. The folks greeted our party of four very warmly and since it was our first time there, the staff was quick to make suggestions and answered all of questions with grace and patience. I used to enjoy the plump sandwiches a potbelly had to offer but sadly the experience I had left me feeling they missed the mark: I ordered a tuna sandwich and noticed it was rather slim with the sandwich fillings. It also wasn't great tasting as far as tuna sandwiches go (kind of bland). Next time I will try a different sandwich here to compare. I will say the table seating inside and outdoors is pretty ample and spacious. People end up eating pretty quickly so a seat will likely open up. read more

While Potbelly's is good, I was pretty disappointed with the service here today, which was surly and apathetic. My sandwich looked like it was thrown together in the dark, and not even cut all the way through. Dripping mustard from one end of the sandwich with none on the second half, and a similar arrangement of toppings. Pretty surprising as a walk-in customer. While the location was big, clean, and convenient, there are two Potbelly locations at the next Metro stop down (L'Enfant and Metro HQ) from which I get consistent good quality service and food. No reason to visit this location again. read more

On a Tuesday at 1:15pm, it was packed, every table was full and people were even at tables outside in the 100 degree heat. Having tried the other Potbelly salads, I was interested in trying "A Wreck" salad on the app's UNDERGROUND MENU. I was pleasantly surprised and made a couple customizations of feta cheese and balsamic dressing (it's really tasty). My order has always been ready for pick up on time, so my interaction with the staff is minimal to null. Before leaving with my order, I check the bag to make sure nothing is missing. Went here with 9 people while touring around Dc. Being the only person in charge of 6 kids our order became long the cooks and counter people took it with ease and were super kind and understanding. Wow! This potbelly location and I have many years history. I've been working in this area for the past 5 years so I've visited this spot numerous times and each visit I leave satisfied. The customer service is always wonderful, even when the line gets stupid busy (and it does during lunch time!!) all of the staff are so friendly and are able to keep a calm and cool composure. The food is alway A-1 at this location and that can't be said of all Potbelly's. My go to meals are always the soups, particularly the tomato bisque, big yum! I love coming in this joint and asking what soups they've got today. The food is always fresh and if there's ever a problem with your meal the staff will quickly fix it. The location of the restaurant is great, being right next to the federal center metro. The inside is pretty clean but I never dine in. The pricing is typical of any potbelly pretty inexpensive. read more

I typically get a salad and add my own dressing since I'm not too crazy about their choices. They discontinued this Asian type dressing that I used to love. Their sandwiches are decent too. I usually order my wheat bread skinny with whatever meat I choose. If you are not used to spicy food, go easy on the hot peppers. They are flavorful, but HOT! In the summer, I sometimes splurge on a strawberry milk shake. Their milkshakes will pack on the pounds if you are not careful. I used to go here pretty regularly, but got tired of waiting in the long lines at lunchtime, where the lunch rush seems to extend from about 11:30am until after 2pm on most weekdays. After awhile, I decided it just wasn't worth the 10-15 minutes of extra waiting during my limited lunch hour for a sandwich that wasn't really better than other nearby options. The one thing that set Potbelly apart was that I could get a milkshake, but this shop has always been terrible about making shakes in a timely fashion. At most other Potbelly locations, if you order your shake when you order your sandwich, it is made and waiting for you by the time you get to the register. Not here, where they often do not even start to make it until after you've paid, and then they are just so slow that it takes another 5+ minutes waiting. Anyhow, I really wanted a milkshake today, was hoping a rainy Friday on the later side of the lunch hour would be faster, but nope, it took forever. 2.75 stars. This place is busy. Also it's freezing in there. Service was efficient and staff was fine but the sandwich itself was just sort of meh. I haven't been to Potbelly in years (I thought they used to do a steak and cheese for some reason but I guess not?). My friend ordered a vegetable soup and tuna sub. She hated the soup and thought the amount of tuna on the sub was minuscule. My Italian sub was pretty standard. I think I may have preferred it non toasted but again... Meh. I Ordered "Pick-your-Pair Sandwich Salad" - on my salad there was rotten apples (see picture) and my sandwich order was incorrect twice, the first time the staff caught the error before they gave me the sandwich and then the second time, I didn't know about until I got back to my office. I specifically asked multiple times that they not put mustard on the sandwich and guess what...there was lots of mustard on my sandwich when I bit into it...ruined the sandwich. They can't even blame that they were busy, because they weren't. This isn't the first time I've had issues at this location.
