Last time they had a mixed-up (which was satisfactory resolved), and we also found out that the Potbelly in Wheeling is actually slightly closer to where we live, so, this time we placed our quick lunch order at the one in Wheeling, which turned out to be a good experience. Since my husband went to pick up the sandwiches, I can only comment on the food itself. We had a buy 1 get 1 free deal, which was a really good deal. We had ordered two multigrain avocado turkey sandwiches, that came with avocado, turkey breast, and cucumber. We just added Swiss cheese, artichokes, red peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, mustard, and seasoning. It came to a great sandwich with abundance of ingredients, that were all fresh and delicious. I always like their bread that has a crunchy skin and soft inside. I could only finish half of a sandwich each time for lunch, since the portions are very generous. We went during their bogo free promotions. It was chaos at the store, no online order is coming out. The crew are clueless of whats going on. No eta on order fulfillment. Crews are a bunch of young schoolers, no direction and a leader thats directing the team. Customers have been waiting for 3 hours. A staff name Robert stepped up and asked who wants to cancel the order. We opted to cancel. Now it's been 4 days and still no refund. Called the store several times spoke to Mario and Samantha both store leaders. No apologies by the way. How dare me follow up my refund. No documentation provided. Was just blamed for my banks long processing time. We stopped by Potbelly Sandwich Shop to grab a quick lunch. My son ordered a sandwich, and I asked for soup. Since I'm allergic to mustard, I politely asked if they could check the ingredients first. Instead of checking, the worker told me, "If I were you, I wouldn't eat at all, since we touch everything with the same gloves." For about five minutes, he kept discouraging me from eating, even though I simply asked to verify the ingredients. Then, he started talking about me with another employee as if I wasn't even there. The whole situation was very unpleasant. I've never had an experience like this at any other Potbelly location. This has to be one of the best sandwich shops I have ever been to! I would have given it 5 stars just for the food but the 4 stars is because I felt the service was a bit rude. I am very big on customer service and coming from LA to Chicago I have seen a big difference in friendliness. My friends and I ordered a cup of soup and half a sandwich each and literally everything was amazing! Although I did not take photos trust me it is worth a try! I had the Italian sandwich and chicken pot pie soup! I highly recommend these two options. Others had the Mac and cheese, chili, beef sandwich and I believe a Turkey avocado sandwich. That said, I got a $100 Potbelly gift card, so for the duration of the $100 plus member benefits, I came to frequent Potbelly locations close to where I live and work. From a food standpoint, the sandwiches are great. Overall, they are expensive and not a value-buy, but the quality is high and having the sandwiches toasted really punches up the flavors. I'm a big fan of the A-Wreck, but I also love the meatball. The absolute best thing on the menu is the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. I like getting the bag of minis because I crave these things daily. This location in particular was okay. We ordered the following to go: Two big chicken $15.20 Mushroom melt $4.30 Chicken salad $7.85 Three bags of chips $3.90 Belly bites combo $4.49 -Mac & cheese -Choc milk -Apple sauce -Cookie Total $38.96 We arrived during lunch rush so there was a decent line (10 minute wait) to place our order. Since the Mrs. and I were placing a multiple sandwich order, it was a little bit chaotic to provide options to several sandwiches at the same time. The assembly line setup is ideal for single sandwich orders per person. We asked for no Artichoke and peppers on the side. The guys told us the cashier will take care of it. The cashier did not. Belly bites is a good value for your kids. (+1) The last time I tried out Pizza sandwich and meatball, so I tried grilled chicken this time. As usual, the sandwich was delicious. Potbelly is my all time favorite place for toasted sandwiches. Nobody else does it right! For reals though, I don't know what it is. Is it the temperature of the toasting? Is it the amount of time it rolls through the toaster? Regardless of what it is, they seem to have the perfect equation for the perfect toasted sammich. I like to get the wreck because it has just about all of my favorite meats. I usually get it with everything but onions (because I just don't like onions, sorry not sorry). I calmly let her know that my order from yesterday was wrong (she remembered me) and I wasn't happy about that (a refresher: I ordered a mushroom melt without the cheese and ended up getting a mushroom melt with cheese and no mushrooms). We were absolutely disgusted by the manner our order was completed at this Wheeling location. All the salads were missing ingredients and much of the remaining portions were looking very old. Look at how bad the avocado has discolored! We usually greatly enjoy Potbelly's but we will never order from this location ever again and hopefully they will close this location. Really disappointing in today lunch order at Wheeling location. Drove for 15 minutes to closest location (Wheeling), got my salad, drove back anxious to eat my lunch only for find out that my Mediterranean Salad did not contain a single piece of chicken (which is supposed to be included in this salad - check image on website, the salad looks like it has about 1/2 cup of chicken). Given the time I spend driving and that I have nothing else to eat, a bowl full of leaves will definitely not satisfy my hunger at work and I will need to go out an buy something else. This is my local Potbelly's, and I frequent it. Potbelly in my book, tops ALL the other sandwich shops. For $7 and some change, you get a sandwhich, pop, and chips. Pay an extra $1 and you get the BEST soft-melty cookie ever. DO NOT SKIP THE COOKIE, I repeat, do not skip the cookie. This location is great, plenty of seating, both indoors and out. The staff is always friendly. They quite frequently have the music guy (or gal) singing away. If you've never been to a Potbelly before, you must go. It's so much better than those bland lame-ass sandwich shops . So much flavor, the bread is so much better, better quality, better ingredients, made to order. No arguing because they only want to put 3 slices of turkey on the entire sandwich (I won't mention the yellow "train" place, rhymes with bubway). Hands-down best sandwich shop. Do it. The people who work at this location are some if the dumbest people I've met. I don't really like to slam people, but seriously, your job is to make sandwiches, salads, shakes and pour soup into bowls. That's it. The job is even easier what someone (like me) orders through their app. All they need to do is print it out, make the food and put it in a bag. Five people working at this location and they screw up two sandwiches, forget the chips and drinks. I walk in and they ask my name. I tell them. One guy goes to the ONE AND ONLY pick up order sitting on the counter. He takes out one sandwich, looks at it a puts it back and does the same with the other sandwich. A second guy comes up and does the exact same thing. Then they as what I ordered. I say, two (2) Wrecks. They say, "two wrecks?" And I confirm it. They then hand me the bag. I ask the whereabouts of the chips and drinks. They get them and I leave only to arrive home and find out they gave me the 100% wrong sandwiches. Seriously?! Your job is to MAKE sandwiches. How do you screw up the part of the business that is the second word in the name of the business? I think I'll go elsewhere. read more

I really like Potbelly Sandwich Shops - they're among my favorite less-expensive deli-style sandwiches. They have good quality meats and fillings, the bread is hearty, their soups are all pretty decent, and every Potbelly is fairly well-staffed. Out of the all the Potbelly Sandwich locations in the area, this is my second favorite (just behind the Vernon Hills shop). This location is well-staffed, and their sandwiches are consistently good. Additionally, they are in a pretty convenient location with plenty of parking (something that hurts the Highland Park and Deerfield locations). When I'm in the mood for a good toasty turkey or A Wreck, this is one of the two Potbelly locations I prefer to go to. The only thing that puts the Wheeling Potbelly shop as my second favorite, is that it's a little hard to get to if you are traveling east on Lake Cook. Pot bellys is my go to sandwich shop! I think the first ones opened around here back when I was in junior high or high school and I've been addicted ever since. Sorry Subway and jimmy Johns, you just don't compare. It was love at first sight and I haven't turned back ever since. This location in particular gets super busy during lunch time so I like to come for an earlier dinner to avoid the long line. Hmm, you choose your type of sandwich and I've tried most of them over the years and my favorite is still the roast beef with provolone on white. Wheat or white, it doesn't really make a difference since it's not real whole wheat so wheat isn't really healthier. Anyways, I wait as it goes through their hot oven and then I pick my toppings. I usually get lettuce, tomato, onion, extra pickle, a little bit of hot peppers, Italian seasoning and double mayo because let's be real, who really counts calories here. I've also tried their "skinny" version with less meat, cheese and bread with less calories, but the original is the way to go. Sometimes if I go with my mom we just get the big and split it and it's usually enough especially since I always get my BBQ chips and a cookie. Okay, so the only issue with pot bellys is that it's not always consistent because you always get a different person making your sandwich. Last time it was fantastic but the time before instead of double mayo I got zero mayo and my sandwich was super dry and not exciting. I was upset because although it's not expensive, I want my $5 sandwich to be made perfect and the way I like it. So yes, hopefully you get the right person who actually listens to your instructions. Now onto their desserts, they have the ultimate best oatmeal chocolate chip cookie and I absolutely always get it. It's usually soft and gooey, sweet perfection. Sometimes I come just for it and sometimes I get their smoothies which are also tasty, a little on the sweeter side, but sometimes that's just what you want. I love this place, I first heard about it from a guy who me and my sisters did NOT like. We dismissed it because someone we didn't like, liked this place...Anyway after many months we gave it a chance and actually fell in loves with it. I usually get the Italian on wheat or the Ham and swiss. If I feel like no carbs I get the Italian salad. I just love the bread and the peppers..Jsut can't get enough of them. Ooooh, Potbelly's. This is such a great place for getting healthy food (which is what I need). I've gone through here even as they were about to close so I KNOW they were pissed but due to work situations we just couldn't leave work earlier. They were very nice and accommodating as we apologized left and right but to our surprise someone came in later than us -- so we felt better. Potbelly's Owns! Their "Bigs" (sandwiches) are just over 5 bucks, which given the amount of meat on the sandwich is comparable to Subway. I'm a big fan of the "Big Wreck" with all the condiments added (hot peppers... yum!!!). Their sandwich is definitely more filling than Subway. So if you aren't from around the Chicago area, opt for Potbelly's over Subway. You won't regret it! One more thing: If want to avoid lines so much, use the online tool. 2.5 stars if you have patience. LONG lines, terrible format of waiting in line to be greeted to a "zone to zone defense". One person takes the order, one person watches it go in the oven, one person puts the toppings on, one person cashes you out. Would work find but at this location, you have the soccer families, i.e. one person in line trying to collect orders from people sitting at at a table. I would like to review this place by ordering from the phone or fax, but, with my experience waiting in line (3 different times), not worth my money.
