I was craving french fries from a mom and pop style fast food joint. And I spotted Niki's Gyros. When I walked in the owner was welcoming. There were a few people eating and someone waiting for an order to go. I asked they type of cut their fries they serve and they were the thin, crispy kind similar to McDonald's. I was like DONE, let's order a large order. As I was waiting for the fries, I notice that they had 4-Cheese Pizza Puffs - boom, ring me up as they don't have cheese ones very often. I took both for takeout. As I drove home, I could smell the fries and I couldn't wait, so I grabbed a few at a stop light, I'm sure you all have done it. When I arrived, the fries were still crisp and hot and so was the pizza puff. The fries just bring me back to living in the Northside of Chicago and walking to the a fast food joint to order fries and play video games. The pizza puff was so good! Niki's Gyros (aka Tasty Spin) is a middling local gyro / greasy fast food joint at Weiland and Deerfield offering fair gyros at slightly elevated prices. I obtained the chicken gyro ($13, pictures) and large side of fries ($5). The sandwich, while perhaps slightly generous in meat, was fairly bland with little flavor in the chicken and only minimally elevated by the honey mustard. The fries, thankfully, were quite good with an excellent amount of crisp. The inside is clean but somewhat worn down, with the addition of gambling video machines in a cordoned off area nearby, always disappointing to see. As we ordered take out I will defer on service. I found $13 to be rather expensive for such food of limited quality. While there are limited pickings at this intersection, and I like to support local businesses, I was disappointed by Niki's. This is the old Tasty Spin location and owners. And they are truly like Cheers where everyone knows your name and they are glad you came. They are always empty when I go here, but they have some of the best food for a hot dog/hamburger place around. Bill and Niki (owners) are the nicest people around and love to chat with their patrons. Their burgers are fantastic, fries are great, hots wonderful, tamales are perfect (not dry), and everything else is wonderful as well. This is just a great place for family, friends, groups, or even a party. Just be prepared to wait as everything is cooked fresh and to order. And perfection takes a bit of time. read more

A few of us ate lunch at Nikis today. It appears Niki's is now under new management and receipt says "Urban Melt" not Nikis. I saw it was boarded up a few weeks ago and wanted to go back and try it. I have eaten here several times. The new help was unclear about the menu, and service was very slow for a simple order. More importantly the gyros were nothing like I had in the past and would not recommend. I cant speak to the rest of teh menu, but Nikis was known for gyros. Willing to give the new owners a try, but this is not the Nikis many have visited in the past. read more

This place has been a few hot dog places over the years in Buffalo Grove and after hearing some nice things on Facebook from the local Everything Buffalo Grove group, I stopped in for the namesake sandwich, the Gyro. When the name of a sandwich is in the restaurant name how can ya go wrong, ya can't! The premium gyro meat from Grecian Delight's recipe was on point. Served hot off the spit. Warm pita and a homemade secret recipe sauce all wrapped up in a foil "holder " for easy eating. Oh, the fries! Ya wanna know, this place served crispy crinkle cut fries and they were delicious. Nice portion of all. Why no 5 stars you ask, well two minor reasons: 1. Ketchup should have been Heinz not Red Gold, 2. Pepsi is not my best choice of beverage. The owner and his wife were great to talk to and they really care about the food and customers. Really nice to chat together. They were the original owners of The Works of Glenview and a fan favorite for many years. Also, the original owners of Tasty Spin. These people know their stuff. I hope you give 'em a shot. New owners. All Indians running a Greek restaurant! LOL. Ordered a hotdog. The bun was extremely hard and stale. When I picked it up I just couldn't believe it. The bun was stiff like a piece of wood. How could the cook who made it not have noticed? Was not edible. I took it back inside and explained to the nice Indian boy behind the counter of this Greek establishment the problem and he just had a blank stare. Couldn't understand English. Explains why he had to ring my order up 3 times to get it right. Yum!! I love a good gyro! All of the food was fresh and tasty! We went around 5pm so it wasn't super packed but the lady at the counter came out and gave my kids lollipops. This was the GREATEST place for Gyros and Burgers in the area. NOT ANYMORE! The ownership has CHANGED and the food is no longer up to standards, and here is why: When you change the cooks, you change the food. The former owner cooked the burgers himself, they were PERFECT and nice char taste. Funny thing is, both he and Niki were there, assuring us things would not change and everything would still be the same, as they were trying to train the new staff and owner(s). But when we got home, the burgers were undercooked, tasted almost raw! And the Gyros were soaking in a puddle of grease, they were drenched in it, we couldn't even eat it. MONEY DOWN THE DRAIN! And it isn't CHEAP to eat here! I didn't mind paying more because the quality of the meats was the best and it always tasted better than you could get anywhere else. I am willing to pay more for good quality. But no way I am going to pay this much for undercooked burgers and greasy Gyros meat. This place will be greatly missed. read more

Nothing but wonderful things to say about this hidden gem on Ogden Road. My family has been eating here my entire life and has never had a bad experience. The whole roasted Greek chicken is an incredible value and can easily feed a family of 4. Their chicken marinade is unmatched, leaving the inside of the chicken perfectly juicy with a crisp and flavor-packed exterior. My mother has asked for their recipe countless times, which they won't reveal, rightfully so! Your best bet to recreating this masterpiece is to purchase their homemade Greek dressing, use it to marinade your store-bought chicken, and hope it comes out as good as theirs (spoiler alert: it will not). The chicken comes with two sides as well- MUST order the Greek potatoes and the side Greek salad *their garlic bread comes complimentary and is to die for*. Food is good. Especially the chicken gyros plate; however, we asked for it to be gluten free (that means no PITA and no FRIES) it came with both. When we called to let them know, the older lady was beyond rude. Telling us we never ordered it that way. We asked for the chicken gyros plate to be remade so our daughter could eat it without getting sick. She continued to argue with us and finally said she would remake it but we needed to return the meal that was made incorrectly. Wow! Arguing with a customer is not a good thing. Where do you start? 4 of us had chicken gyros cold & undercooked. Regular Gyros asked for extra sauce which was watery, no flavor & an EXTRA $1! For what? Solid gyros. I will have to go back and try their other items. I would have liked to see Grecian Chicken or other items made in house on the menu. Otherwise the place was spotless, the portion size was great, and the food was good.
