My friends and I stumbled upon this winery/wine tasting because we found parking right in front and a gentleman invited us in saying that this was one of the best places in Santa Barbara so we were convinced! He definitely was not wrong. The hospitality here is very nice and for the price point For the tastings I find it a really good deal compared to other places! There is indoor and outdoor seating, but the outdoor definitely gives the better vibe of a winery! Inside is chilly and it has a shuffleboard! I made a reservation a few days beforehand with Jackie via email. Jackie responded very quickly to confirm. I'm kind of spoiled after visiting Strey Cellars wine and music night that I expected this place to be a bit more lively with empanadas like the website calendar said. The comparison is apples to oranges. Carr was far more quiet and low key. And I didn't see anyone ordering empanadas. So we ordered the white and rose flights. 5 tastes for $30. The reds were $40 flights. They had a deal that if you buy 3 bottles the flight is free. Whites and rose bottles run $25-$40. We bought 3 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc 2022; it was our favorite of the 5. I also ordered a cheese plate. Order totaled $159 including tip. Our Sommelier was friendly and explained the various wines to us. Patio seating was nice as we got to enjoy the last bit of sunshine before the sun set on us. Lots of dogs on the patio that mostly seemed well behaved. One person's dog barked every few minutes which was a nuisance. Only one couple was listening to the music inside the barrel room. The band was acoustic and just not my cup of tea. Plenty of parking made it easy to visit. read more

Review of 03/12/2025 We were there in the afternoon in a warehouse area. The overall ambiance as you enter is a large room filled with couches, chairs, a bar, and lots of wine barrels. Good environment to sample some vino. The wines- Rhone blends, Syrah, Cab Franc and a few others. Good offerings Service- Friendly and she was knowledgeable of what was on the tasting menu. Having been thru wine tastings in other areas of CA things have changed a bit. You will find the tastings costing upwards to $40 for reds and $30 on the whites unless you make purchases or are wine club member. Tax added and a pos system asking you to tip. So expect close to $100 to taste some reds. I've never had been asked at wineries thru a pos system or flip screen to tip even in Sonoma. I have witnessed tip jars thou. Times they are a changing and that's ok but just know what to expect. Overall, still a pleasant hour of sampling some reds. read more

We really lucked out on this spot! After spending the morning checking out Los Olivos trails and Solvang pastries and tacos from Santa Barbara, it was time to "wine down." We did not have a reservation and were lucky enough to snag the fire pit on their outdoor patio! Our server was so nice and answered all of our questions. Such a fun tasting room set away from the Funk Zone, but still close enough. I think it makes for easier parking. They often have live music and make for a great event space. I also love their outdoor area with quite a few tables and umbrellas for an outdoor hang. I really like their rosé. My most recent visit was during a warm Santa Barbara afternoon and the rosé was perfectly chilled. Their service is always great and if you prefer to stay in cooler temps, they do have air conditioning inside. They waive the tasting fee with a 3 bottle or more purchase and offer $1 ground shipping on 6 or more bottles. We've been to Carr Winery three times in the past year and have had wonderful experiences each visit. It's located in an industrial area just outside of downtown Santa Barbara. The building is a Quonset hut style structure, which houses the tasting and barrel room. Just outside, along the street, is a beautiful little patio which is perfect for your tasting adventure. While we enjoy the inside tasting room, the patio has a cabana setup with comfy booths, covered tables, heaters, and string lighting for the ambiance. On this latest visit (1/8/22), Ana poured for us and was an absolute joy. She told us that she recently moved down to SB from the Napa area and she was a wealth of knowledge about Carr's wines, as well as the wine industry in general. We'll definitely seek her out again on our next visit. We shared a Standard and Specialty tasting, as well as purchased a bottle of the 2015 Late Harvest Viognier, a sweet dessert wine that my Mother-in-Law loves (as do we). You can also purchase wine by the glass, and they have cheese boards and other snacks for sale. I always state in my reviews that wine tasting is subjective, but we love just about everything we taste at Carr and quite a few bottles made their way home with us. The atmosphere at Carr is comfortable and welcoming. It's a very popular tasting spot, so it's best if you plan ahead and make reservations. This tasting room is adorbs! I really love their whole outdoor tasting setup. It's so chic and dreamy. They've got such a cute little cabana setup with comfy booths and long white curtain drapes for privacy. Just about all of their picnic tables are covered, and they have heat lamps and string lights meticulously placed. Tastings at Carr Winery are by reservation only. I was able to easily schedule a tasting online before my visit. When I arrived, I was seated at my table right away and given a tasting menu. Jackie hosted me in the tasting room and she was wonderful! Very knowledgeable, sweet, and eager to tell me about each wine that she poured. Tastings are $20 for 5 tastes off of their current tasting menu, and the fee is waived with 3 or more bottle purchases. You can also purchase wine by the glass, and they have snacks and cheese boards for sale. Their standard tasting included a taste of 1 white wine, 1 Rosé, and 3 of their reds. I personally preferred their red wines more than their white and Rosé. Their Pinot Gris was definitely a lot different than what I'm used to. It was very minerally and acidic which is different for me, but it wasn't bad. Their Pinot Noir was wonderful though. Very earthy but balanced. I also enjoyed their Syrah which was lightly tannic but not super bold. Their red wines definitely shine here. The atmosphere is super chill and comfortable. It seems like this is a popular spot in town for group hangouts and tastings. I'm still dabbling in wines that are from the Santa Barbara/Santa Rita Hills wine region, so this added some good exposure for me. Still...it was a lovely afternoon, outdoors with good company and a nice way to spend time. Service: Our server was very young, so I was a little apprehensive as to how informed she would be on the various wines. She did her best with the information she had studied. When asked additional questions, she struggled a bit. Overall, she was friendly and pleasant, which made for a nice experience. Ambiance: Indoors seemed very "cave-like". It was dark and had a more "intense" vibe. On another day, I may have chosen it! Today, I wanted a bit of fresh air. I had reserved a spot on the patio and requested a "cabana". Even though I would've driven right place this place nestled in a semi-industrial feel location. Overall, this is exactly what I would expect of a wine tasting. Tasted 5 different wines from the reds and roses. Our server seemed very knowledgable about the different wines. I know nothing about wine and appreciated her suggestions and insight. While I was hopeful I'd be wrong, I knew the chardonnay was going to be my least favorite since I have yet to find one that I like... from any where. It was a super chill patio experience. Apparently this is a popular place for dog owners to hang out with thier pups. Inside was live music but everyone still hung out on the patio because of either the dogs or the weather. The cheese board was a nice compliment to the wine, the nuts and crackers were helpful after my 2nd wine. It would've been nice to have some additional options for those who can't do cheese or have nut allergies. This was a welcome and great find that about a half mile from the madness of Funk Town. It's totally worth the trip! Charming space, inside and out. The wines are very good. I love Carr Winery's authentic and inviting ambiance, both inside and outside. The inside is a working winery, and on a hot summer day I loved the cool temperature, relaxed seating, games, and paintings by local artists. Yesterday we celebrated our anniversary by taking a trip to Santa Barbara and had an amazing time at Carr Winery. Despite being delayed (called ahead), Carr Winery graciously accommodated our reservation. The reservations are generally for two hour blocks and despite being delayed, we were able to fully enjoy doing two tastings and enjoy a nice bottle of wine during our time. The cheese plate was good, but for those expecting more food options definitely make sure to eat beforehand. We had a light breakfast and definitely wish there was more food variety, but enjoyed the wines, which was the whole point. Definitely make sure to make a reservation as the place got packed quickly. They possess a nice variety and the Reds were more enjoyable than the Whites and Rosé variety- I'm definitely more of a Red/Pinot guy myself. We lucked out with parking right out in front and definitely do recommend this place for a fun couples outing. Can't wait to comeback thanks to the awesome customer service we received! The employees working were extremely generous with their time and friendly recognizing when to check in with us while we were talking. Excellent experience overall! read more

Chris and Nate are fantastic guys. Came in on a Saturday night. Most tasting rooms are closed but not Carr! A tasting was the perfect way to end my night. I had the standard tasting and the cheese plate. Walked away with a bottle although all of their wine was tasty. If I lived locally, I would totally frequent this place. Parking was easy to find and they have a great outdoor sitting area with a roaring fireplace although I sat at the bar. read more

Okay, Yelp world...this is a bad-assery establishment if I must say so myself. When I imagine a winery/tasting room, I imagine something sort of laid back and cool, spacious and airy, yet straight up LEGIT like this. You get authenticity without arrogance! I like how you did that. I loved the musty grapes fermenting smell when you walk in. That is to remind your ass that this is real...not a game. Those barrels you see in the place? Those aren't props. The machines, all of it, REAL. It's like those breweries that have the big tanks in the place to remind you that YES they really do make beer at the location. Same thing here. I actually liked the wine too. And I'm picky about this because let's be real...there is so much NOISE when it comes to businesses out there and on Yelp. People who probably should do something else in life fill up space in the food and drink world, and it's hard to shift through the BS. But I liked 4 out of 5 of the wines I tasted here. Usually I don't like more than two in any particular tasting. I'm holding out one star until I can get back and taste some of their actual red blends (which I prefer) as this time we only tasted single grape varietals. Plus they have wine lockers where you pick a size (smaller to larger, your choice), pay a monthly fee and you can store wine from this winery or wine/liquor from anywhere else and BRING FRIENDS to enjoy the contents of your locker any time! What a cool idea! It's almost like a social club membership. And they have a nice comfortable lounge upstairs as well as a patio out back. Santa Barbara 's very own, locally grown, produced and bottled family-owned small batch vino. Every box I look to check off when choosing which wine to taste is checked with Carr wine. This leaves me a few options in Santa Barbara, but what sets Carr's wine apart from the rest of the local purveyors? Comfortable fun ample indoor/outdoor tasting room and good wine. Carr's wine-makers produce several varietals, around 15 a combination of whites and reds ( no sparklings). Personally, I was impressed by their Cab Francs and Syrah. My advice is taste BEYOND the classic flight because Carr has so much more to offer than the five or so in the tasting. Namely, their Reserve Cabernet Franc loaded with earthy notes such as mild peppers, juicy blackberries, and cedar. I was lucky enough to get my hands on some of Carrs Reserve Cab Franc and relized right away that this one stood above the rest. Beautifully balanced, low to medium tanins and mild acidity. The reserve Cab Franc is a MUST TRY- I loved it so much I ended up drinking the equivalent of a half bottle! Remember, all of Carr's wines are limited and small batch so grab a bottle of what you like because the next thing you know- it's gone. Albert, assistant winemaker is really kind and willing to teach you all about the winemaking process. Brianna at the bar is the one you should be ordering from, overall the nicest and most attentive winetender there! This is a different sort of tasting room. It is also a barrel room where the wine sits and the barrels are stacked giving this room a unique ambiance. Because the wine is there the tasting room is a little on the cool and darker side. In summer this is great but don't forget your jacket and scarf in the rainy cool months. There is a great outdoor space with fireplace, cozy and nice and Friday night music. The wine is good, I recommend the Cabernet Franc. They do have some good Syrahs and Pinot noirs but over the years the price on some bottles has become a little steep. You can get great wine for more reasonable here in Santa Barbara wine country. Stopped by based on a recommendation from our hotel. Chris was the tasting room attendant and was very helpful. Wine was very good, however, we were a little put off by the owner's reaction to Chris giving a homeless man a dollar. The homeless man came in and asked for a quarter. Chris looked into his wallet and said he would give him a dollar, which I thought was very nice of him. I understand the importance of not wanting the homeless to return thinking they will always be funded money, but within 10 seconds of Chris giving the money, the owner ran down from upstairs and said "don't you ever f-ing do that again or else they'll keep coming back". Chris took it well and apologized, but it was very rude to scold him in front of us. read more
