Every time I visit I'm always pleasantly greeted and welcomed. It's a nice place to meet a friend, grab a coffee on the go or even stay and do some work. Health code adherence, safety standards, quality control, and efficiency are not valued here: The barista was touching the sip parts of lids with her bare hands after rubbing and wiping her nose, I saw no hand washing. This was super disturbing. I understand it's a new place and people are learning but a huge investment in bar training, food safety, and food handling could really benefit this place and the health and safety of its customers. You don't know what sort of health issues others are going through and customers trust their local food establishments to play a part in public health. It's one thing to not care about that for yourself, but choosing that for your customers (whom could be immunocompromised or have any number of other health issues) is... well, it's a choice. To display such behavior so flagrantly in front customers, and in front of the manager on duty who did not coach in the moment or address this, shows these habits are normalized and makes me wonder what other health code violations are happening where customers can't see. The two drinks we ordered took 15 minutes to make (they were not very busy) and were not worth the cost, especially after watching how they were handled. We were not able to drink them, unfortunately. I've worked in both FoH and BoH roles in food for almost twenty years and am more than familiar with how things work in this industry and I really wanted to support local, but after seeing the behavior displayed here and knowing what these things typically indicate I'm not comfortable going here until these guys have learned more about food handling, safety, and efficiency. They are still in the "figuring it out phase", which I can forgive on service, but food safety is a different conversation for me. Although I can't in good conscience be back, I sincerely wish good luck to this business as it's the only local coffee shop in this area and is in a great position to make an impact on the residents here. Whether that is a positive or negative impact is definitely up to the business and the standards they hold themselves to. read more
