Agree with the folks that concluded this was a tourist trap with mediocre food at best. It is ok for what it is. It is very convenient location-wise, which was key our last night in Venice as it was thunderstorm-ing and we were looking for convenient and easy. But don't go here expecting to have your mind blown. If you are in the mood for Olive Garden, then this is a good call. Exhibit A is the Margherita Pizza. Literally it was just processed mozzarella cheese and sauce. (See picture). It was a solid New York style cheese pizza. Still tasty since we were cold and wet, but I was amazed the guy kept a straight face when he slid it in front of us and declared it a Margherita Pizza. At first I wondered Margherita Pizza actually was just a cheese pizza in Italy, but then we saw at other restaurants that it wasn't. Exhibit B is fried zucchini, carrots, calamari, and shrimp. The waiter told this it is a "very traditional" italian dish and talked us into getting it. It could be true, but somehow I doubt it. Exhibit C is the gnocchi and shrimp. This was definitely my favorite dish, and it still wasn't that great. Like an Olive Garden standard decent dish. Exhibit D - their bread sucked. First place where we experienced authentic Italian pasta dishes and we both loved our dishes! We will definatly come back here. The ambiance out on the deck was romantic and the service was great. Looking for a different restaurant, we saw Povoledo's terrace from the bridge and decided to come here for an early dinner. As luck would have it, the dinner rush didn't start until after we were seated, so we found ourselves sitting on their lovely covered terrace overlooking the Grand Canal while the restaurant buzzed around us with a rising level of activity. Tip: Sometimes planning is better than luck - I suggest that you make reservations in advance, especially if you want to ensure yourself a table on the terrace with a view of the Canal Having started our day very early, it was a pure delight to dine in this delightful restaurant. Povoledo brought together all the elements of an outstanding dining experience. The food is beautifully presented, simple, and cooked perfectly. The staff are all very attentive and friendly, without making you feel rushed or intruded upon. The prices are quite reasonable, especially when considering what some of the other restaurants in this section of Venice charge, and how exceptional the overall dining experience is. Bottom line: Povoledo is a delightful restaurant that combines all the best elements of excellent food, outstanding service, and good atmosphere. First night in Venice we walked around figuring out where to eat and this place seemed very inviting although it is at the nearest entrance coming from Tronchetto. We were seated in an outdoor booth and had our drink orders taken immediately. Still water and White House wine. Received our drinks within a couple minutes and put in our order. Calamari, seafood pasta and lasagna. I was asked if I wanted an assorted seafood pasta or only mussels. I ordered assorted and got back an entire lobster tail, a few shrimp, clams, mussels(pretty much heaven in an entree). The sauce was not overly salted. Our entire meal was literally perfect and they had toilets inside to use before we left which was great being you have to pay €1.50 to use the public restrooms. Oh and a complimentary limoncello. Mamma mia! Outstanding lasagna- best I have ever had. Had given up on lasagna after having it a couple of times at Olive garden. Touche'. But in Italy, should have known better. We ordered vegetarian lasagna and mushroom pizza. The pizza was also very good. Thin crust and fresh. But the lasagna was something else. I do not usually like cheese but the cheese and vegetables in lasagna were very flavorful. Pricing seemed very reasonable. Coffee was overpriced though. Pretty good in taste but overpriced. And the view along the canal is very welcoming. With the light breeze gliding past your face while you gaze beyond the beautiful flowers placed along the restaurant into the bustling activity of passing vaporettas and gondolas, make this more of an experience than just a lunch. We ate at a lot of places in Italy and tried many pizzas, but this one had the best pizza I've ever had. I'm pretty sure this was my favorite place to dine as well. This was our first dinner in Italy and the gentleman at the front desk of our hotel literally walked us to this place and got us a table. It wasn't awesome weather out. Little rainy and cold, but we still wanted to sit by the canal. The water was a little rough but nothing could hinder our evening. We ordered a bottle of wine, and both had fish. My family and I dined at Povoledo with the recommendation of our hotel concierge, and we were not disappointed! It's a very short walk (no more than 5 minutes) from the Venezia St. Lucia train station, tucked away in the midst of a tourist area bustling with souvenir shops. Order the seafood! In particular, we really enjoyed the spaghetti fruitti di mare, mussels with tomato sauce, and fried calamari. Their meat lasagna and gnocchi with scallops, in my opinion, were not fantastic. The service is warm and friendly, and the food comes very quickly. The food was good enough to make us contemplate coming back a second time in our 36 hours in Venice! Delicious! I came here for an early dinner with a few friends this past December, and was thoroughly impressed. It was around 6 PM and we were the only ones in the restaurant (Italians really do eat late, I guess), in a bit of a rush to get to the train station. The staff were easy to communicate with, humorous and warm, and were completely accommodating with our schedules. I ordered some sort of shrimp pasta and it was SO flavorful and garlicky. The pasta was cooked perfectly - ahh I miss you Italy - and the flavors meshed together so well. It was affordable for a dinner out (~€15?) and there was a generous portion of seafood on my plate. I do not want to be the only negative voice here, and the lasagna was delicious, but I have to be honest about our experience. I had dinner here last night with my wife while on our honeymoon. The reason we chose this place was because the greeter at the front was one of the nicest, enjoyable people we have met in Italy. The reason for the 3 stars instead of something higher is two fold. 1. We have the caprese salad, and although the mozzarella was good, the tomatoes were still significantly green and under ripe. In a salad where the tomatoes are served raw, this did not work. The tomatoes were very acidic and tough and unedible. 2. The service we received was very very poor. I am not saying this from an american perspective with a different expectation of service. I have traveled through Italy enough to be very familiar with their "unique" service style. We know the laid back, slow and casual approach to service, but this was different. From not being greeted and having our menus thrown at us by someone as they walked by who did not look at us or acknowledge us to three different servers coming by, dropping things off or picking them up without looking at us to saying anything. And there were not busy, they just chose not to want to give us the time of the day. (A drastic difference from our lunch waiter who was friendly, stopped to chat and get to know us, etc even though he was MUCH busier) This is the reason for a 3 star review. The lasagna, as others have noted, was absolutely delicious and almost was enough to save this to a 4 or 5 star review just on its deliciousness alone. And the view of the main canal is excellent as well. I am hoping our experience with the tomatoes and service was an aberration, but I have to post honestly. read more

We found out finding good food in Venice is quite the challenge and we were hoping to be proven wrong with this restaurant right in a very touristy area by our hotel. -The pros....nice view, Friendly staff. -The cons...the quality of the food was mediocre at best. We got the lasagna and the shrimp pasta like everyone has been raving about on here...both were just ok. The lasagna was overcooked. The shrimp were mushy, both dishes were exactly what I was expecting as far as the food here in Venice. Def nowhere near 5 stars. This is the best place in Venice. The view is absolutely breathtaking morning or night, although night is a little more romantic. Every single staff member that I have met has been nothing but outstanding and courteous. My husband and I went for lunch and then after walking around for hours couldn't find anything that compared so went back for dinner and they remembered us and our drinks hit the table when we sat as they remembered that too and they were busy. They make you feel special each and every time. We are celebrating our anniversary tonight and we went for lunch again for a quick pizza (delicious and don't forget to get the spicy oil to dip it in) and the waiter remembered and asked if we would come for dinner so he could get us the best table and make it special. The Spaghetti Scampi and the Fruti de Mare are both blow you're mind good. We wanted Calamari Fritti which is not on the menu and they made it for us and it was awesome.
