First time car buyer, without much prior knowledge of purchasing a vehicle. I had been looking for a good deal on a CPO vehicle for a while. I contacted Poway Honda to show interest. I was lucky enough to be called by Mickey Perez at Poway Honda - for someone like me being completely new to purchasing a car, without any help from parents or friends, Mickey was a godsend. In our initial talks, I asked questions extensively to inform myself about CPO vehicles and the purchasing process. Mickey never expressed any negativity, aggressiveness, or impatience, and was always willing to share his insight. When I arrived at Poway Honda to purchase the vehicle I wanted, Mickey led me through the process while answering all of my questions along the way. There were some issues on my end that had to be worked out last minute, and again I was fortunate to have Mickey help me through the process. The night before purchasing the vehicle, I realized I needed auto-insurance (its a confusing process when you're on your own). I let Mickey know, and he connected me to a sweet deal (shout out to Priscilla at GEICO) and I got a price that I was happy with considering the average rate in CA and my (lack of) driving record. All the issues I had, Mickey went out of his way to see what he could do to get the deal done. Superb! After fighting my way through several dealerships in the San Diego area, I stumbled upon Poway Honda. They had the Subaru I wanted even though it was a Honda dealership. It was the day before Easter so I decided to call to make sure they were open, as I wanted to go in to check out the Subaru on Easter. I made an appointment with Mickey who was honest and said they might be low on staff but that they could still help me out. I ended up buying the car from Mickey, he was helpful and easy to talk too. We bought a used Honda at the Poway dealership. Gary Lobel showed us the car and assured us that, although it wasn't a certified used car, we shouldn't worry about anything because of the 'worry free' principle the dealership applies to all used cars. This means that all cars get inspected and that condition of the car is clearly communicated to the customer. In our case Gary showed a complete maintenance record and that the car passed all inspections without any issue. A fantastic deal... By the time we got home, we discovered that the transmission was leaking. OK, the dealership took care of it. But that made us doubt how well those 'worry free' inspections had been done. An independent third party assessment learned us that the car was full of hidden defects : worn out breaks and pads, bended drive shaft, steering hydraulics leaking... All in all, more than 5k USD of repairs that needed to be done. Not exactly what we call 'worry free'. When trying to contact Gary Lobel about this, he ignored us. When escalating further up, we first got the blunt answer that the car was sold 'as is'. We continued to insist and got in contact with JR and ultimately the GM, Jakki Mafi. Both pretended to listen and to care about our customer experience, but all they did was talking a lot to gain time without any intension to solve this case nor to come up with a compromise that was acceptable for both parties. Their only goal was to make us go away and to protect the values for the dealership. Bottom line : this dealership claims to be customer centric, but is in reality no better than any other and is only out to maximize its profits. Very friendly when you in to buy, but extremely cold and arrogant when there is a problem. read more

In the past 8 years I have gone through selling, buying, and leasing 5 different cars for my husband and I from 3 different dealerships. This was by far the BEST experience I have had to date! Everyone at this dealership is super friendly and helpful. I never got that sleazy car sales guy thing which I HATE and why I normally dread having to shop around for a car. I came to Poway Honda specifically to deal with Mickey. I had the pleasure of working with him in 2015 when I traded in two cars at the same time for a new Pilot and Accord. He was absolutely fantastic and fought tooth and nail for me to get the best deal. He was super personable and truly cared about me and my family. He was amazing keeping my two little ones, 2 & 4 at the time, entertained throughout the whole process. I was shocked that after the papers were signed and the deal was done he called me several times to check on me and the cars and even follow up on some events that were coming up for me that we had talked about. After my first experience with Mickey I felt like I met a long lost relative. Never felt like he was trying to sell me anything and he gave me really honest, good advice. This is why I went out of my way to go to a new dealership, much further away from my house, to work with him again. To be 100% honest they didn't have the exact model and color of car I wanted but I was willing to compromise on that just to work with him because he's just that awesome! I ended up getting a 2017 Honda Pilot EX with Sensing and am in love with it! My husband absolutely loves it too! Jim & JR were also a pleasure to work with. Both super helpful and accommodating. I absolutely love their finance guy, Alfred! That is the person I dread the most with the whole purchasing process. By the time I got to Alfred it was already 10pm due to multiple buyers ahead of us. He was super straight forward and to the point. Presented all options and let me choose what was best for me without long annoying sales pitches etc. I actually elected for some things that's I've declined in the past because he didn't push anything on me and pressure me to do anything which hasn't been the case with others. He has a great sense of humor and made what normally is the boring paperwork part quite enjoyable even after a very long day for both of us! (He was there at 8:30am! Give that guy a raise!) Thank you all for everything! We are totally happy! I couldn't recommend Poway Honda any higher than 5 stars or I would! I would tell anyone in the market for a new car to go out of your way to come to this dealership and ask for Mickey! You will not regret it! Three years ago my wife leased a vehicle from Poway Honda. It was our first time leasing a vehicle and so we didn't know what to expect. My wife fell in love with a vehicle on the lot and a very kind sales person helped us negotiate a price. I give this place two stars because of the kind nature of the sales person. He came back with an astronomical figure that my wife made me except. For a year old vehicle we put $4500 down and paid over $715 a month for three years. Vehicle cost just over $40,000. We since went to a different Honda dealership three years later and lowered the monthly payment $175 with zero out of pocket costs. A business has to ask if they want short-term revenue or long-term customers. read more

I wanted my 2011 Odyssey checked out before a trip to the Grand Canyon. Toke the van in yesterday for a $120 check up. While checking in the van, I spoke to the service rep and let him know that I had new tires installed last week and that this dealership changed the timing belt two years ago. I received a call a few hours later with the service tech's recommendations: Change fluids (radiator, brake, tranny, power steering), wheel alignment, new brake pads, new timing belt, spark plugs, and valve adjustment. I asked the service rep (John S) what was the thinking behind the wheel alignment recommendation. The answer was baffling. I reminded him that the tires are new and wouldn't show any signs of needing an alignment. The answer was the tech didn't see any service history of an alignment so he recommends that the dealership do one. Didn't realize that is a criteria for repairs. I didn't get new tires, last week, at the dealership either??? I also reminded the service rep (again) that I had this dealership replaced the timing belt two years ago. I do agree about the fluids and brakes. Not sure about the spark plugs and valve adjustment. I know, I don't need a new timing belt or an alignment. The bottom line is having confidence in a repair shop is super important. You have to trust that they are not taking advantage of you! A big failure by Poway Honda. I am going to have to take the work elsewhere. read more

REVIEW for SERVICE I trust Honda dealers since day 1 buying my Honda CR-V and have my oil change service there all the time. Until recently, due to the long wait time, and rate increase, I did the oil change myself (I was an ASE certified Auto mechanic before) and find out 2 important mistakes from the last oil change, 1. The cover underneath the oil pan was missing. It was removed to access the oil filter, and never get to put back in. They probably dump it in the trash. 2. There was no oil plug gasket (this gasket is made of plastic, brass or aluminum, so it will seal when the oil plug was tighten). Instead the technician just over tighten the nut to stop the oil from leaking, this could damage the oil pan or the oil plug thread. And this show the technician have no knowledge of what he was doing (no, or poor training). I don't know if this is one bad technician or anything, but an oil change should be very elementary. Just wonder of how many parts will be missing if this technician will replace my timing belt?? read more

Although the quality of the repairs is always fine, the customer service here has usually been poor. Perhaps it is because I am bringing in my car late in the morning. Today, I had an 11:15 appointment and was there at the appointed time. Nobody helped me until after 11:30. I had been told that the minor checkup would be done in 60-90 minutes, but when I returned at 1:15, the car was nowhere to be seen. Apparently, it was in a queue to be washed and dried, but I did not get the car until almost 2 pm. I did not request a wash and certainly would not have wanted it if I had known about the long wait. It seems like I have to wait around a lot nearly every time that I go here. The Toyota service where I bring my other car does a much better job of nicely greeting me when I arrive and having the car ready when they say. read more

I ran over something large on the freeway at noon on a Saturday. I called Poway Honda in hopes I could get an appointment, but no such luck. They told me to come by anyway and they'd see if they could fit me in. After about ten minutes, service advisor Al had my car up on a rack to inspect for any damage. I know it only took five minutes of their time, but made me more at ease. My teenager drives that car and I never would have let him drive it without Poway Honda assuring me there was no carriage damage. read more

We purchased a new 2019 Honda Pilot from Poway Honda on June 10th. Our sales rep Mickey Perez was excellent. However, shortly after purchasing the car we experienced multiple issues that needed repairs. The primary and safety issue was the braking system alerting and braking erratically. We've returned the car to Poway Honda's service department three times to get this issue corrected. The service department has had our new car in excess of 40 days and has not corrected the problem. They refuse to release to us the results of testing done by their Regional Field Technical Specialist, Dean Woods. Service Manager Evan Childs told us a subpoena from an attorney would be required to attain the results. Since picking up our car in Sept 13th, the same braking issue has occurred ten more times. We regret purchasing our car from Poway Honda. The service department does not place a priority on correcting safety issues with their new cars. They will no longer return our calls. read more

My initial reason for going to Poway Honda was to have recall issue taken care of. While there, I also asked if they could take a look at my rear windows to see if there was also a manufacturer's defect that caused them to stop rolling down. I was helped by Nyphon who was very kind and informed me that a diagnostic test for the windows would cost a fee, but if I choose to have it repaired then that cost would be eliminated (this I assume is in order to protect them from wasting their time). According to the technician, the window issue could not be linked to a manufacturer's problem, and so I was given an estimated cost for repair. This price was more than I was willing to pay at the moment, so I declined to have this issue repaired. After about 2 hours of waiting, I was told that the recall issue was fixed, but that during the multi-point inspection of my car, they noticed that I really needed my fluids changed. So I said yes to get this changed and was told it would take about another 1.5 hours. After this point, I was approached for a second time and told that while changing the brake fluids, they noticed that the condition of my brakes was now in the red and would need to be changed like ASAP. I knew beforehand that my brakes would need to be changed soon, so I also decided to go with this repair. I was then told that it would be another 2-2.5 hours to have this done. So overall I ended up spending about 6.5 hours at the shop, between waiting to be helped and then all the repairs completed, which was pretty much my entire day. I wish there could've just been one full on inspection and then all at once relayed to me all the concerns found, instead of repeated intervals of informing. Additionally, I had asked repeatedly in between the intervals of being told what additional work was required, if I could have my car registration sticker switched out to the new one while they were working on the car, and was told that would be possible. But at the end of my entire time here, they still forgot to do it :( Also, while I know that I didn't have the exact part of the car repaired where the diagnostic fee was instituted, I still did have a lot of repairs done that day, so I wouldn't say that their time was wasted. However, the initial diagnostic fee had not been removed from the final invoice. I was later told by others who have had their cars repaired, that normally if you have repairs done, then the diagnostic fee should go toward repair costs. Maybe for this location, if you don't have the specific part that was diagnosed repaired, then they still have to charge you, but I think that if you still end up getting repairs, then still charging this fee is not right. I don't know if my ignorance of how car repairs and fees work was taken advantage of or not, but it sure feels this way. But to be fair to Nyphon though, he generously offered me a 10% discount off all the repairs and parts, which helped a smidgen with cost, but the removal of the diagnostic fee would've been the best, which by the way didn't qualify for the 10% off discount. So while I am pleased with all the repairs that were done to my vehicle and Nyphon's kindness, I was not satisfied with my overall experience mainly because of the wait time due to the the back and forth way that information was relayed to me regarding needed repairs, and also the possible over pricing that I incurred. read more

New car purchase in January 2018. During a regular maintenance survive in June of 2019 we were told our battery had a bad cell and was iOE on voltage and not holding a charge. They replaced the. Street as part of warranty. In April of this year (2021) my car would t start and when I took it to Auto Zone to get it check they said it had a bad cell and would t hold a charge. 2 HONDA batteries in 3 years with bad cells. Poway Honda said the twarranty ran ran effective Jan 2021 (3 yrs/36k). I explained that I already had one bad battery and now another - they said warranty is for the whole car regardless of replacement date. I got no help from service manager who said he would check with Honda USA for help and he never called Me back as he said he would. If an item is replaced in the car shouldn't it last at least the 3 yrs? And not 1 bad battery but 2? Seems odd. I left a message again with the service manager asking for a credit for service at the dealership and/or coupons for free oil changes and never got so much as a call back. Shop elsewhere for a dealership and service department that knows a little customer service and how to stand by the product they sell. Just my opinion..... I would recommend Toyota or Nissan if you do not need to step up to Lexus or Infinity. read more

My wife and I had been looking around at a new Honda Odyssey minivan for a few months so we had a good idea of the model we were looking for and the price range we were looking to pay. Great experience buying my 2019 Odyssey in July of 2018. Just got my first oil change and we had a recall on the brakes that needed service. I made an appointment for 8:20am and they told me it would take half a day. No problem. I understand things take time. They also offered me a complimentary wash. Fast forward to 4:10pm and I STILL haven't heard from them. I finally call and after being transferred to 3 different people, I reach someone who claims they already left me a message (they most certainly did not. I had my phone on me all day). I go to get my car and surprise, no car wash. What a joke. I'll never go back to the dealership again. Terrible. read more

Purchased a certified used Civic. Purchased the extended warranty. About two months later bought new rims at Discount tire. One of the tires on the car, the ones from Poway Honda, were damaged beyond repair. The sidewall was previously repaired and it should not have been; the tire had to be replaced. Another tire was also repaired. It was repairable but not repaired properly and there was a very slow leak. We contacted Poway Honda by phone and by email. No one returned the calls. We waited two weeks. Still no return call. Called Poway Honda again and sent an email to the manager. No response. Emailed Honda directly. They immediately replied and directed us to contact Poway Honda for a remedy. We contacted Poway Honda again. No response. We live about 45 minutes from them. The warranty does not cover the tires. Being a certified used car does not guarantee the tires. There was no remedy offered. None of our calls were returned. Our only solution was to buy new tires as Discount recommended they all be replaced because of the previously mentioned issues and the uneven wear on the tires. Discount was surprised this car was certified and that a mechanic did not note the visually identifiable issues with the tires. Poway Honda was so, so on their buying process. There was a lot of up sales, a long drawn out process of vehicle prep (washing it). The floor mats in the front had holes in them. So they swapped mats out of another used car (pretty cheap solution on their part). Coupled with the tire issues I would surmise this dealership makes a habit of cutting corners in order to increase profit. Have your mechanic inspect any used car purchased from this dealer. Buyer beware. Certified doesn't mean you are safe on your purchase. read more

This place is a hot mess. The girl who sold me my car, well leased, wasnt even a sales person didnt know what she was doing and did not seem to care lol. The manager was helping her and he was a pain to deal with. Then when I purchased my car after the lease, the guy who works in the separate building where you go to finance "used" cars made a mistake on the financing and I had to go back, he was also clueless. Then when I went back there was another guy fixing his mistake he wasn't clueless just a jerk lol. Not interested in making sure things were clear and understood and correct just in a rush and arrogant af. Can't believe I forgot to tell about my little experience here! When I first moved to San Diego, within a month my 2001 civic died. I had it towed to the nearest Honda dealership in Poway. After "looking" at is I was estimated $2400 to fix the problem. Um. No. So I got a referral from a friend for a more reliable, local mechanic and ended up at Scotty's in Encinitas. I had it towed there and within 5 minutes of opening up my hood he told me they didn't even look at the engine so there is no way they could have known what was wrong with it. WHAT?! Like some sort of crime scene investigator he showed me all the evidence I needed to know that Poway Honda didn't even look into the problem. So mad! Scotty's found the real problem and fixed it for WAY less. I wouldn't trust Poway to put air in my car tires. read more

do yourself a favor and stay far away from their service department!!! asides from lying again and again about the work being done on my car, the service technician was not professional and diligent about the service. Here is the full story: - sunday afternoon, my car starter dies - car will not start, had to get it towed to poway honda as it is closer to my house/work. [ figured they will be able to get to it first thing monday morning] I was able to drop off keys with receptionist. -7:30 monday morning rolls around - I called to ask if they got my form and got it checked into service ... they could not find my folder and had misplaced it... ok no worries, is monday right?? -waited half hour called back, they found the key and started working on the car. estimate for repairs will be around $600 parts and labor, asked if there any specials or coupons, the tech said NO.. ouch.. ok, nothing I could do. -10:00AM I called to asked for an update, he said, it would be ready by noon! perfect.I can ask a coworker to take me during our lunch break. -Wanting to make sure it was done or close to completion, I called the tech. to ask if the work was done, he said his mechanic broke the starter [ a $400 part because he was being careless] and now it would not be done until 3PM. WOW really? are you really that careless with an expensive car part? - - - figured not my fault... what I am going to do right? -3PM rolls around, I called to get a final update... the work was still not done, and additionally the service rep had once again misplaced the key after they had completed the work. -it wasn't until all the mishaps that he eventually offered a discount knocking the discount from $600 from $400-ish out the door. *** DOUBLE CHECK YOUR BILL for discounts! *** was promised a discount, and the service rep said it was included in the bill, I went to read the fine print and do the math, the discount had not been added. don't promise something you are not able to provide, or know how to write up on the final bill. * sure saving the extra $$ was nice, but incompetence makes you wonder about what else they could have done wrong to the car. I usually go to Pacific honda.. and never had any issues, this was an emergency and I had no other option but to go here. WONT COME BACK EVER AGAIN. read more

I would assume most of the reviews of Poway Honda are spot on. I've never been here but it's the closest Honda to my house. Trepidatious after reading many bad reviews on yelp. I called them regarding 30,000 mile servicing for my Honda and was quoted $350. They offer no discounts. I called Honda of Escondido and the same exact servicing is $155 after a 10% discount. I've been to Honda of Escondido several times before and have had a very pleasant experience every time. Guess where I'm bringing my vehicle? read more
