Just wanted to give another great updated review to this Smog Station. I now live in Escondido and still make my way to this shop in Poway because of the Awesome staff and quick service. They are great multitaskers. They have a couple vehicles in the shop and still meet you at the door and get you checked in and grab your keys. Never have I waited for more than 30 minutes from parking to completion of smog check. They always smile and say hello when you arrive. Watched a young Mom with two small children get her smog done in 15 minutes. I am almost positive they hurried hers up on purpose so she was not trying to wrangle her young kids for too long. Ended up here after going to 5 other smog shops (some were no longer STAR certified but hadn't updated their signs, others were just out of their depth in a parking lot puddle) These guys are fast, knowledgable, and willing to help you get what you need. I came in after a triumphant victory in a long battle with a High NOX problem. They checked out my car and pointed out that I couldn't pass without the correct CARB sticker for my neuspeed air intake. When I mentioned that I hadn't needed it at any of the 6 smog tests that I had gone through in the last year, he explained the reasoning behind it. But then he didn't just send me on my way and move on to the next customer, he looked neuspeed up online, called them and got the contact info that I needed to request a sticker. Followed his instructions, came back with sticker passed with flying colors! AND was able to get my registration completed, WITH tags, the same night. Used to go to Poway Smog on Pomerado rd because they were closer... No more, all my vehicles are coming here from now on.! read more

Went here at the last minute thinking I needed a smog for a vehicle that was being transferred from my mother to me. The registration was due and I had no appointment for them or the dmv. The guys were fantastic!! First it turned out that I didn't need the smog. Then he informed me that he could do all the paperwork there!! I was in and out in under an hour!! Super nice guys!! Wow, I always question the 5 star companies because it seem impossible to make everyone happy. Some how they have it figured out. I called ahead to see if I needed an appointment and didn't. She explained its first come first serve and they have two bays. "Should be less than 30 min wait". Poway Smog Station is in a bit of an odd - but GOOD - position. California law states that after X number of years, a vehicle must be smog-checked every two years. Poway Smog Station's unusual position is that they're so darned NICE that I wish I had a reason to use their services more often. Too many business don't deserve their customers, but Poway Smog Station doesn't fall into that category. I know, it sounds weird, but I WANT to give them my money, that's how nice they are. I had a discount coupon that they honored with no problem at all (other companies might pull the old bait and switch, etc.), and although I got there at 4:30, they had no problem with taking me in, which kept them working past their 5:00 closing time. (I was told that they'd be expanding their hours, which is good too!) So, Poway Smog Station... maybe you can expand and add some services so we can do business with you more often? And for anyone thinking this review is made up, you couldn't be further from the truth. If a business proves to be difficult, I have no problem posting a bad review, but it's such a refreshing change of pace to be able to post something positive and have it truly be deserved. read more

Fifteen minutes, in and out, no appointment. Got there a little after 9:00 and was driving out by 9:20. A handful of customers showed up right after I checked in, so I think I beat the rush. I was greeted with a smile and a friendly personality, as if we knew each other and they were expecting me. There is a $12 off coupon through Yelp, but I didn't even need to ask for it...I think he just gave it to me because I've been there once before. I would suggest calling ahead to see what the wait time looks like if you're in a time crunch, but I didn't need to. Clean, fresh smelling, bright waiting room...not that you'll be in there very long! read more

There is a reason this business has ONLY 4-star and 5-star ratings, and ONLY 5-star ratings for the past 5 months. They deserve it! FIRST, you need to make sure you are at the CORRECT Smog Check business "Poway Smog Station" in Poway. Not only are there many businesses with very similar names in the same area, there are any number of smog check stations literally right next door, or a block or 2 away, so you could easily pull into the "wrong" one. Just to be clear WHICH business I am giving accolades to, make sure you get the address correct. 1-3-9-6-5 Poway Road, and their address is clearly visible outside the building and on the stone marque at the entrance to the parking lot. You want the business located on POWAY ROAD directly across the street from the intersection with Ann-O-Reno Lane. NEXT, Amazing customer service. I called earlier in the day to ask about the wait time and make an appointment, and they said an appointment was not necessary, to just walk in, and the current wait time was 20-minutes. I wasn't able to get there for a few hours, but when I parked the car, one of the servicemen was parking another vehicle near me, and went out of his way to greet me and welcome me to the establishment; I hadn't even gotten into the lobby! I took the opportunity to verify that I was at the business I intended to visit and showed him the printed coupon I had with me. He confirmed that yes, that was their coupon, and I proceeded to check in with the receptionist in the office. There were 2 other customers in the lobby presumably waiting for their cars ahead of me, so I figured that I had missed out on the 20-minute service. Oh well, my own fault for not getting over right after I called. The young woman who checked me in was courteous, polite and efficient, and said that I was still looking at about a 20-minute wait. I figured, "yeah, sure, standard answer" and presumed I would have at least a little longer than 20-minute wait. I gave her my paperwork, mileage, and my pre-printed coupon, and settled into a sturdy chair in a professional looking waiting area - no big cushy dorm-room furnishings, and no metal folding chairs either. It was clean and bright, with drinking water right there. It didn't make any effort to look like a living room or lounge, which I appreciated - it was a waiting area and not designed for me to move in for a "long haul". The waiting room had reasonable seats and capacity for about 8-10 people comfortably (see the picture of the lobby/waiting area included in the Yelp listing - it is very accurate). Maybe the 20-minute estimate was still possible? Almost immediately after I checked in, another customer arrived, and then one more right behind him. Maybe I was just ahead of the late-afternoon Friday rush? I thought to myself, gee, those guys are going to definitely have more than a 20-minute wait, and I proceeded to pull out my iPad to catch up on some miscellaneous to-do items. Within 5-10 minutes, both of the customers who were there when I arrived were done and gone. Pretty good for me, I thought to myself. Much to my surprise before I had done much of my to-do list, I was being called to the desk - my smog check was complete and it had been only about 15-minutes since I arrived. FINALLY, ethical and honest business. Apparently I had printed and older coupon. When I was asked for payment, the amount they asked me to pay was $2 LESS than the "discounted" amount shown on the coupon I gave them when I arrived! They could easily have charged me what the coupon I had with me quoted, and I would have been none-the-wiser AND still felt I had gotten a discounted deal. Despite presenting them with a "discount coupon" for a higher amount, they just charged me the correct lower amount. What an unexpected delight these days. (When I got home, I did check for their "current" online coupon, and sure enough it was for $2 less than my coupon, and exactly the amount I was charged!). So in summary, 5-stars and THIS is the establishment you want to do business with. Be sure you are HERE and not at one of the look-alikes along Poway Road. read more

If I knew how fast and easy a smog here would have been sooner, I would have not procrastinated so much! I found this joint on yelp, figured I would give it a try. I pulled up and they immediately waved me into a bay. I went inside took care of the paperwork, and i barely had time to sit down and play on my phone (let's be honest) before the guy came in and told me my car passed and it was done. Totally awesome! It took about 20 minutes and I was out the door. My only complaint was that my car smelled like cigarette smoke inside. The ratings are 100% true. I came here for my 2015 smog check and everything went off without a hitch. A couple weeks ago it was that time again but I opted for a closer location to my work in RB; BIG MISTAKE. I walk into the RB's smog office and there's a guy on the computer who doesn't even acknowledge me. It was probably 11 seconds before he said hi. Anything after 5 seconds makes for absurd awkwardness. I gave him my form and he said "'93, huh?" That's the year of my car. I say yes. He says "2 hours." I'm like 2 hours??? What??? Then he downed it to an hour and 45, citing two vehicles ahead of me and that it takes another 45 minutes to do the old cars. Bro, what are you talking about? It's never taken more than about 12 minutes to smog my car. He blabbed about how the machine doesn't always work. Maybe he just didn't want to do it, I don't know. It was a very unsettling conversation that gave me bad vibes the second I entered the office. ANYWAY, I needed this smog by Friday so I drive the extra miles to the Poway Smog Station and they get me in right away. The gentleman who administers the checks came right out of the garage with a friendly greeting. The lady at the front office provides excellent service with a smile. Including the paperwork and payment I was on my way in 15 minutes. No hassle and a very pleasant experience. I wish there were more good things to say so I could make my positive review of this location longer than the negative review of the RB location, but there's not much else to say.
