Since I wasn't sure which site to choose he walked the entire park with me, teaching me about the different trees and showing me each site. He spotted a weed and we stopped so he could pull it. He's a treasure. Ps, he built it all himself many years ago, landscaped it and cut all the trails as well! I'd guess him to be near 80.

However, you can't just easily walk to the beach from your site because one way from the camping sites is 3/4 mile through mosquito walkways and another you could bike, walk or drive that is a 1-1/4 mile away from sites. If you have small children driving is best or you'll hear them complaining the whole way there. Beaches are beautiful and so is surrounding area. No play equipment for kids so best is them just riding around park. Which kids will make it fun. We don't tow a car with our RV so we are land locked unless we want to unhook everything. In summary won't be back due to lack of quick and easy access to beach via walking.

Although some sites were available, campers without reservations had to change sites in order to stay more than one night. And on a Saturday in June, the campground was completely full, even though the weather was less than ideal. In addition to campsites, there are a couple of small cabins here that can be rented. The sites are spacious and private. We walked from our site down to the beach, but it is a bit of a hike; so the next time we drove down the narrow road to the parking area. Cars are allowed to drive onto the sand, but the road down is rough, so you best be driving a high-clearance vehicle if you want to drive on the beach. With so many campgrounds situated near highways, or train tracks, the quiet at this campground was so welcome. While you are here, make sure to visit the Camp Blanco lighthouse and the Historic Hughes House.

We have stayed in over 450 RV Parks while traveling full-time in a 42-foot coach. This was our first visit here staying three nights (site 38). (1) Dust, some parks are so dusty that even after just a couple nights your unit needs a bath, the dust on our coach was above average, this was because the sites are placed amongst beautiful pines trees. The roads are dirt, sand, and loose gravel, which did not help either. (2) Level pads, big coaches need paved or thick gravel pads that are level. We give this park 5-stars for the level pad, but only 3-stars because the pad consisted of loose gravel & dirt. This park has space very generous space between sites with trees and bushes between sites. Sites come equipped with a picnic table. Note: we did observe several sites that were not as level as ours. (3) We live in the age of WIFI technology and there is nothing to stop any RV Park across this country from investing in doing WIFI properly. For some users such as ourselves, WIFI is an important feature. This park receives 0-stars for their WIFI. The park did have wifi, but due to the many trees, you would need to be staying in a site near an antenna to receive a signal. Unfortunately, the site we were in, did not receive wifi. (4) Maneuverability, some parks have very narrow roads which make backing up and turning difficult, we found this park to be limited in the maneuverability department. The roads themselves were plenty wide, but the overhead tree limbs were an issue. We were staying in a pull-thru site but due to the tree limbs, we had to back-out and completely back the coach down the lane to avoid hitting the low limbs. The park staff are aware of the situation so hopefully they trim-up the lower limbs. (5) Satellite, as you know satellite reception is impossible to receive when there are large trees present. Forgot receiving satellite here, so many beautiful trees! (6) Phone Service, we have AT&T which did not work here. (7) Dog play and potty, plenty of space to walk your dog, but no designated poop/walk areas. Bring your own poop bags as none are provided. (8) This park is older, has only 30-amp sites and tall coaches need to beware of the low tree limbs. Despite that, the park is quaint and quiet and situated among beautiful trees. If quiet and solitude are what you are looking for, then this park would be perfect.

The number of stellar sheltered harbors on the West Coast is about a handful and a half, border to…read moreborder. Coos Bay is one. The area has quite a few communities beyond the namesake Coos Bay, including North Bend, Cooston, North Bay, and others including Charleston. Charleston is a set of rolling highlands that separate Coos Bay from the ocean. So if you want ocean, go West! There you will find state beaches and the Bastendorff Park of Coos County. There is an overlook of the beach, down the cliff. To get to the beach, walk back down the road. There is a children's play structure, parking and a grassy area at the overlook. Continue up the hill for RV-type camp spots with water and power hookups and a bathroom structure. The individual camping areas are shaded, and carved from the brush, providing some privacy from adjacent campers. The group area is at the top of the hill and largely unshaded, grass covered and sunny when it's clear. Though there is not a view of the ocean from there or any of the camping spots, it can be heard. It's the gem of the park camping areas, with its own bathroom shower structure, clean and with a huge supply of hot water. There is also an electric cooktop, sink and kitchen counter under a roof with picnic tables for your group. Each camping spot has a fire grate, but bring your own cooking grate with a finer mesh to hold whatever you are grilling. Great and unobtrusive park staff. We had a great get-together here to honor a local fisherman friend lost at sea with 3 generations of families participating, from up and down the Western states, Coos style. We are all Oregonians. As a Portlander I honor all the people all over the state. I understand that they cut trees, graze cattle, grow crops, mine, fish, hopefully over the long term. We are all in it together. I like to support the small businesses when I get a chance to visit too. Like in Coos where fishing has had some tough times with the closure of the Sacramento River salmon seasons and some slim fish runs for the Klamath basin. Sounds like those fish are back strong this year. So thinking of all you in Coos, and encourage Yelpers to visit the Southern Oregon Coast and the small towns supporting its awesome oceanfront!

Each campsite comes with a small fire pit, a picnic table, a trash can, a parking space for 2 cars, and a good size camp site. There are water spickets nearby the campsites. There are also flush toilets, automatic water sinks, automatic paper towel dispensers; all of which are well maintained. There are pay showers, if you wish to utilize being clean (50 cents for 4 minutes). Check the web site for all details of the campground. There is also a camp host in case of any emergencies or rowdy campers. Actually, there was one campsite that blared some music past 10pm (noise curfew) for an hour, which I went over there and ask him to turn it down (which he obliged). I will say that many of the campers were more on the strange side (drifters, displaced individuals, and the likes), all which seemed harmless. It seemed that 85% of the campers that were there, all had a dog or two. The Applegate River is about a quarter mile away. My family enjoyed playing in the river twice while we were camping here. Cantrall-Buckley County Park is literally across the street from the campground. And of course, our purpose for camping here was to visit Applegate Christian Fellowship with Pastor Jon Courson (located about 1 mile away). Be aware of speed traps coming into the valley here. There are occasionally police officers stationed along this route.

The trail up is through the burn zone on a well-maintained mostly flat path that zig-zags to the falls.
