This review is for Sera…read more I completely understand that a stylist's time is valuable, and I know it's frustrating when clients are late. I also understand why my appointment needed to be rescheduled. My issue is not with the policy, it's with how I was treated. I was made to feel like an inconvenience from the moment I walked into the salon. I had a 12:45 p.m. appointment and called before leaving home to let the salon know I was running about 10 minutes late, which is their stated grace period. The receptionist told me she would let Sera know. At 12:56 p.m., when I was literally one minute away from the salon, I received a call saying Sera could no longer see me because I was late, and she had back-to-back clients. While I was disappointed, I understood. I asked if I could still come in briefly to speak with Sera because I wasn't even sure I needed a full highlight service, and the receptionist agreed. When I arrived, Sera immediately told me I needed to reschedule and seemed unwilling to discuss my hair beyond commenting that the back was "really dark" and explaining that she had returning clients scheduled after me. She didn't seem to know or care that I was a returning client. Sera had done my hair in February, and I came back because I had really liked her work. Not recognizing me in and of itself is not a big problem--I know a lot of people sit in her chair--but it made the interaction feel impersonal and left me wondering if she'd even prepared for my appointment. I was fully prepared to work with Sera and the receptionist to find another date and time that fit both of our schedules. Instead, both were unhelpful, dismissive, and rude. This experience was especially difficult because I have pretty severe alopecia areata that, thankfully, is now well controlled with medication, allowing me to grow most of my hair back. That said, I wore a wig for five years after losing most of my hair, so finding a stylist I trust is still an incredibly vulnerable and anxiety-producing experience. Every time I see someone new, I have to explain my hair loss and why I prefer a lived-in color that doesn't require overly frequent trips to the salon. I chose to return to Sera because I thought I had found someone I could continue seeing. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed, dismissed, and genuinely upset. I walked out of the salon, called my husband, and cried like a reprimanded little girl. I am a 35-year-old grown-ass woman. Policies are important, and I respect them. Kindness and professionalism are just as important. Had the situation been handled with empathy and respect, I would have happily rescheduled. Instead, I left feeling less like a person and more like a time slot or a dollar sign. It seems like Sera may have enough clients that turning one away isn't a big deal, but I was respectful, cooperative, and ready to work with her to find another appointment. I deserved that same courtesy and respect in return.

Over the past five years, I have regularly visited Japanese hair salons in Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston while traveling frequently. In those experiences, even when a haircut did not fully match my preferred style or length, the technical quality was consistently strong, and any adjustments were handled professionally. Unfortunately, this experience was very different. One of the defining characteristics of a Japanese haircut is the smoothness, softness, precision, and careful organization of the layers. In my case, the cut lacked those qualities and appeared uneven and poorly structured (the photo from the back). I was also disappointed by the salon's management. Based on my experience, the overall operation and quality control did not reflect the standards typically associated with Japanese salons. Update (May 2026): Over the past 4 years, I have been with my Japanese hair stylist in New York. I returned to the salon to see Keiko because I was hoping to find a long-term stylist in Washington, DC. I had not had my haircut for 7 months prior to that because I delivered a baby in December 2025. Ozuki appeared to be one of the few salons in the area offering Japanese hairstylists. Immediately after the appointment, the haircut looked good due to the styling and blow-dry. However, within a few days, the shape became difficult to manage and appeared increasingly unstructured. The photo on my ID, taken approximately three weeks after the haircut, reflects how the cut settled over time. In contrast, the Japanese haircuts I have received elsewhere typically maintain their shape and balance for several months. Despite my concerns, I scheduled another appointment six weeks after the first haircut with Keiko because I genuinely hoped the issues could be corrected and that I could establish a relationship with a local stylist. At the same time, I let the management know that my haircut had bad form and hope that it can be resolved at the second appointment. Unfortunately, my interactions with management, Liz, were once again disappointing. Rather than addressing the concerns constructively, the response left me with little confidence that the salon could deliver the level of quality I was seeking. This is the first Japanese salon where I have repeatedly had unsatisfactory experiences. Based on the consistency of those experiences, I am not convinced that the salon operates at the standard typically associated with Japanese hairstyling.

As someone battling dermatitis, I booked a cut, moisture hydration treatment, and scalp exfoliating detox masks and honey...this service was just what I needed. Sonya carefully explained everything to me from things do refrain from if my scalp became flared and how to manage it in between. I'm so relieved to have found her because my hair was missing this level of care and support. Came in for a color…read moreconsult and they said I needed a double process bleach out--which I was SUPER nervous about because my hair lifts really easily, would have preferred to start with a bleach bath but was told it wouldn't be enough (several hairstylists I've spoken to since have clarified that's where they'd have started), but I was super adamant that I absolutely did not want to be brown, and therefore was willing to accept any damage in my hair to get what I wanted (a vivid copper/ginger). I was quoted $700 for the full appointment. Came in and on the day of my appointment, after the first bleach, they were able to lift me to a super light platinum blonde--the perfect canvas--but I could tell my hair integrity was pretty compromised after so I asked if we had to go in with bleach a second time because there was less than a quarter inch of regrowth at the time that didn't bother me and would just prefer to gloss over if possible without doing more bleach damage. Stylist said sure. So tell me why I walk out with the one color I was trying to avoid--the one color I was willing to put my hair through a full bleach out to avoid?? Brown. I've included inspo pictures, the color they lifted me to? I was devastated. I tried to give myself time to sit with it, wondering if I was just seeing things but called shortly after to express my disappointment and said I'd receive a call the next day. No call back. Instead, I had to reach back out. I then received an email that said there's nothing they can do and that instead I can shampoo it a few times and they can try to gloss it. What?? My hair is too dark at this point? Gloss doesn't lift color, and I didn't get what I paid for. I expressed my disappointment and eventually the owner called me and tried to gaslight me that it was my fault that my hair wasn't brighter because I didn't let the stylist do a second round of bleach I'm sorry--WHAT? Any stylists out there want to look at the color they lifted me to and tell me that same thing? Make it make sense. Still not sure if the owner and I were disconnected, or if she hung up on me, but I called back later to get in touch. Then I wrote an email. Gave them a whole month to respond and avoid embarrassing themselves with this review and here we are. Oh--to top it off--I was still charged for a double process bleach even though we only did a single process. Horrible customer service, horrible hair expertise, wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

I have had very long hair, down to my waist or longer, for the last 30+ years. I knew for quite a while that it was time to finally let it go, but deciding where to go to get a new look was overwhelming. I would usually go to places like the Hair Cuttery once a year and get 6 to 10 inches cut off (just to keep it from growing to the floor). I had no experience with real salons and frankly they frightened me. Then a friend told me about PR downtown and I went with her when she got her hair cut to check it out. It is a very friendly place with a calm, confident feel about it, not snobby or elitist. After observing Jacqui Davis there, and reading her bio and reviews online, I decided to schedule a consultation with her. I found her to be, just like the salon, very friendly, reassuring and confident. Her own style says a lot about her. I got about two feet of hair cut off on December 9, 2009. Jacqui made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process from cutting to highlighting. I only had a vague idea of the length I wanted (just below the shoulders). Jacqui gave me the most amazing style that not only makes my hair look beautiful, but also flatters the shape of my face and even makes my petite body look better proportioned. She really has a gift for creating a look that works head to toe. I also splurged on a makeup session with Bonnie Love. I'm so glad I did. She updated my eye makeup and taught me how to do everything myself. She is an artist. When they were done, I looked in the mirror and did not recognize myself. If I may say so, I looked amazing (actually my husband said so). I have never in my life felt so confident about the way I look. I feel it every day. I know it's just hair and makeup, but feeling good about the way you look really changes everything. I scheduled my next appointment with Jacqui right away and am now a regular customer. I would recommend Jacqui (and her assistant, Gavin Dowd) and Bonnie to anyone who wants to totally change their look or just get a little boost. Rhonda Rocks! Since my first hair cut and color with Rhonda my professional life and my sex life has Improved dramatically - no kidding! I came in with a whole host of problems ... dry ends and incredibly oily roots. I mean OILY - no kidding. Oily to the point where I was applying a mixture of witch hazel and vinegar to my hair every night (apparently smelling like a big pickle is a big turn off for my husband)). This self made concoction of witch hazel and vinegar would keep the oil at bay until about noon at which point I would spend hours at my desk applying baby powder then trying my best to brush it out so and even worse remove the traces of powder from my black pants or suit jacket (very unprofessional not to mention a complete confidence drainer). I was simply a MESS! Enter Rhonda, who really listened to me did her best to keep a straight face when I described to her my home remedies (did I mention the rubbing alcohol and sea salt mixture?). She used her tremendous amount of knowledge and training to help me figure out the best products to use for my condition (apparently rubbing alcohol is not on the list). It was a lot of trail and error .. but I finally feel like I have a fighting chance for a good hair day. If you want a stylist who really listens and offers thoughtful and relevant suggestions ... Nicole! Nicole! Nicole! I am so happy to have found her after her departure from her last place. This location is so much easier for me to get to and the staff is definitely more pleasant. I have seen Nicole repeatedly over the past year and have never had better brows, hair and skin, all thanks to her! Not only is she super detailed and takes her time but she remembers the things we've talked about. She always asks about my retinol use before she waxes - perfect. I can't count how many times I've gone into a local salon and had my skin ripped off because I used my night cream which has a retinol in it! (I forgot to mention and the esthetician never asked.) She is so flexible with scheduling that if I'm in a bind and need to book last minute, which I do all too often, she goes out of her way to get me in. Nicole is also really knowledgeable about makeup and skincare. She is my go to girl for anything beauty related. Her primer and bronzer recommendations were exactly what I needed and her application tips are a breeze. She referred me to an amazing colorist in Foggy Bottom (Ian McCabe) and an incredible facialist above Georgetown Yoga (Adrienne Shostak). For someone in the beauty world to recommend another provider it is practically unheard of! I respect her honesty about who to see and what to use and she's never steered me wrong. read more

I very frequently research reviews for new restaurants and products I want to try, but very rarely do I write them. There was no way I was going to let this experience go unheard of. A little background.... I tried to play "Kitchen Salon", meaning I bought box color from the local pharmacy store and attempted to lighten my hair. I should mention my natural hair color is extremely dark! So, after experimenting twice with two different colors, (6 weeks in between each application and never coloring the back for fear of possible breakage and losing my length) I ended up with back half of my hair black, the front of my hair some weird copper-y orange color and my roots, we don't even need to talk about my roots, just bad, allllll very bad. I went to see Jacqui and YES it was a long process but YES, it was well worth it!! I had to go through 3 different coloring processes and each step, Jacqui was there to explain what the process was and WHY it was being done. Needless to say, SHE FIXED MY HAIR!! and I LOVE IT!!... Color is perfection and she made sure she did not compromise the condition of my hair. I would DEFINITELY recommend the salon. Jacqui and her assistance Grace, were excellent! read more

Rhonda!! Rhonda!! Rhonda!! I joined Yelp just to write a review about this wonderful lady! I came to see Rhonda after my poor hair had been butchered by a previous stylist and I had little to no faith that it could be saved. Then came my silver lining, in the form of a spunky and talented hairdresser that everyone needs to experience! Rhonda sat me down and answered all my questions very patiently, which is rare to me because most hairstylists I've experienced have a one in, one out kind of mentality BUT not this one! I felt very comfortable after my consultation but that was just the beginning! She talked to me throughout the haircut and made sure I was at ease and was aware of what was going on the entire time. Soon after I was staring at myself in the mirror in disbelief. I couldn't stop thanking her for helping me with the mess that I gave her to work with! This haircut has gotten more compliments and random people asking me who cut my hair than any other cut I have hald! Not only did I get exactly what I was looking for but I got a stylist who actually cares and listens to her clients! I couldn't be happier with my hair and I owe it all to Ms. Rhonda! read more

I just moved to DC and desperately overdue for a haircut. I brought in a picture of what I wanted and Rhonda let me know that my (very thick, semi-out of control) hair would NOT do what was in the picture but explained a similar look that would work. I've had stylists in the past simply try to make my hair do what the picture looks only for me to find out after that my hair does not look anything like the picture and never will. So I very much appreciated Rhonda's professional feedback. She also was very conscious of the fact that I will NOT put a lot of time into my hair. She took that into account as she helped me choose a cut so that I will not end up putting my hair in a ponytail every day because I don't want to take time to do it. Finally, she let me know the types of products she was using as she went and tips I could use when I am doing my hair at home. In short, I highly recommend PR at Partners (or at least Rhonda - though the rest of the salon was nice) because she was excellent at listening to what I want but also gave input when she knew that what I wanted wouldn't work. Call and ask for MONICA! I have been all over the place looking for someone who can do natural looking color and I cannot believe how lucky I am that she's here in DC. I am extremely picky. I was searching for balayage, hair painting, free lights- whatever you call it- the type of hair coloring that looked lived in. I have naturally dark brown/ nearly black hair. Plus it's very fine. If the wrong person works on dark hair, it can leave a brassy yellow mess! So the decision was crucial for me. I work in DC, and as busy as it gets... I can't afford to take risks with my hair. The search is over for me. I have to express the relief of having a hair stylist I can depend on. Monica gave me the best hair color I've ever had. Previously I've kept my natural color in between a few boxed dye jobs done on my own- but I really had no idea how good my hair could look until Monica used the balayage technique. It's her specialty, and she's had technical training in NYC. It's not something just any stylist can do. I used to get my hair cut by Justine but she has left PR at Partners so I am now using Stacy. Amazingly enough PR at Partners has another person who knows how to cut curly hair. I have been going to Stacy for about a year now and she has always done a great job. My curls look great after she cuts them and she helps me with styling tips so I can maintain the cut and help eliminate the frizz that will inevitably happen in DC. I like Stacy so much I had her do my hair for my wedding and she did a fantastic job. Everyone raved about my hair. I got as many compliments on the hair as I did on my dress. She also did my makeup and it was perfect. I looked great the day of the wedding and in the photos. I recommended Stacy to a friend of mine with straight hair too assuming that anyone who can cut curly hair well must also be able to cut straight hair. The day after trucking all the way from Vienna, VA to Metro Center my friend called me and said that she had "gotten the best hair cut of her life," and that it was so worth the long Metro ride from Vienna. RHONDA, where have you been all my life!!?! Im just another devoted fan in the Rhonda club! I've gone through so many stylists in D.C after moving here from L.A and they all disappointed :( I found her through one of my colleagues and boy did she really live up to the hype!! She's a sassy, straight to the point stylist who knows her stuff! I have problematic hair that never gets light enough and always looks brassy, no matter what. The minute I told Rhonda my problem, she looked at me with the most certainty and told me she could fix me :) She explained what we were going to do and what needs to be done in the future. I felt relieved and totally confident after our consultation :) About 2 hours later I was shocked what I saw in the mirror! My hair is no longer brassy and feels super healthy! RHONDA!! You are truly an artist and I am simply amazed by your work! If you're a blonde in this city, you need to come see this doll! I've gone through my fair share of stylists since moving from Miami a year ago, they all disappointed me could never get me blonde enough. I would leave with brassy hair or toned hair that would wash out after a week and go back to brassy, it was beyond frustrating. I noticed a coworker of mine had recently gone from brunette to an amazing honey blonde, so I immediately got the 411. She referred me to Rhonda at Pr and told me I definitely wouldn't regret it. I scheduled an appointment ASAP and I suggest doing so because she is booked! The minute I met her, I knew she was the one lol! She is a no nonsense kinda gal and that's exactly what I need! Winston Thompson is the main reason I would not recommend anyone to work for PR at Partner in Downtown, D.C. He is a mediocre white hairstylist who wouldn't know what to do if a Black customer with curly or coily hair sat in his chair. I'm sure he would play in their hair and have his assistant, Kat, finish the rest. Isn't that what he normally does on a daily basis? Winston Thompson is only in the position he is in because he only services white and non-Black people and he does not have the confidence to go out of his comfort zone. Plus, he overcharges for a haircut. Who the fuck pays this white man up to $200 for a haircut and they still look the same even after walking out of the salon. Please! He must be a great con artist if he's been doing it for this long. Lastly, he is infatuated with Black culture, but he has no culture and he lacks rhythm when he dances drunk at holiday parties. Alcohol Anonymous should be called at the next holiday party. Now, let's see how fast this review gets taken down because the truth has been revealed. read more

I have been going to Jacqui Davis, on G Street, for 12 years. I found her through Washingtonian magazine which consistently lists her as a top colorist. Clearly, I was not disappointed! I have very fine, dirty blonde hair but when Jacqui is finished with it, I have buttery, believeable blonde hair with volume that somehow looks, feels and IS healthier. As the seasons change Jacqui changes her treatment of your hair. It's not the same old thing each time but she always keeps the health of your hair in mind - important for us fine hair people!Jacqui also gives great haircuts which is not always the case with a "top colorist." And what is really refreshing is that Jacqui is down to earth and genuinely nice. No snarkiness at this salon. "JOBI, The hair stylist that i've been waiting for" i've been to so many salon in my life, from Texas to Virginia, paying big bucks for them to do my hair, yet them all disappointed me. i remember i have to wait till i get back home to Texas to have my hair cut, because i cant find any good hairstylist here in DC. until just recent, one of my friend told me about Jobi, the hairstylist at PR at parner. so i called and set an appointment. i remember he's actualy sat down with me and talk to me about what i like my hair to be done, what i dont like about it and so on. i swear i felt like he can read my mind, Jobi gave me the best haircut ever in my life. now i dont even have to fly back to Texas for my hair cut no more, because i've found the one. Jeremy is my stylist and I don't know how I survived without him before 2 years ago. I have thick curly hair and Jeremy has transformed my color and texture into beautiful flowing (non frizzy) curls. He then introduced me to Brazilian Keratin treatment - no one in the Washington area knows more about the treatment and how it will effect your hair like him. I now can wear my hair straight or curly. No matter the texture of your hair, Jeremy is the top choice in DC area. Us curly hair girls require more training and attention and he is a true professional who knows how to handle tough curls and make them gorgeous. And, it doesn't hurt that you will be entertained by him from the moment you get in the chair...till you leave. I will follow Jeremy anywhere he goes... read more

Rhonda is top notch! I believe I've found my dream stylist, guys! I came in with quite the challenge, my hair had been balayage by another stylist that clearly didn't listen to what I wanted. It was orange in some areas and yellow in most, jazzy right?? Not exactly the honey blond i had asked for. Rhonda saw my hair and said "what the heck did they do to your hair girl???" Lol I instantly felt at home, she was my kind of gal! Boy, she did not disappoint. I left with the most gorgeous blond hair I'd ever seen before. I kept staring at it in disbelief because I couldn't accept that it was really my hair! I am in love and so excited that I found a stylist I truly trust. Thanks Rhonda, you're amazing! read more

these stars are all for bobby!! He is amazing. I had read some of the recs and made an appointment with him. I've been getting my hair highlighted for 12 years or so now and he may have done the best job ever. I think this guy just knows hair. That's why he is so well received; he knows what looks good on you. Honestly i don't know how to go into specific detail as to what he did, the results speak for themselves. and my hair is lookin good! Simply put, he is amazing. I almost don't want to say all of these wonderful things because if he receives the proper amount of credit that he is due he should be booked solid through the remainder of the year. i've found my stylist for sure :) read more

I moved to dc 2 years ago and after a couple of bad hair experiences in the area decided to continue going back to new york to my old hair stylist. as you can imagine this was not only getting old but made for a very expensive salon visit! I finally decided after a lot of coaxing from a group of very put together trend setters in the office to see jacqui at pr partners metro center. I can honestly say i have never loved my hair as much as i do now. not only did i get a thorough consultation but i received a styling lesson from her asst. at the end!The salon was beautiful, jacqui and the staff was great and so much fun!!! My life did not truly begin until I met Robert. For over five years, I visited seemingly every barber and salon in the Greater DC area, searching for that elusive great haircut. Each time I was disappointed, and I was convinced that a man could not receive even a decent haircut. Then, my wife introduced me to Robert. Robert is absolutely terrific. After a haircut with Robert, I feel more confident and presentable at work and outside the office. Also, Robert always finds new and fun ways to spice up a haircut or style which, especially for men, can be difficult. I trust Robert to make great decisions about my style, and I would not venture anywhere else for a haircut. read more

This place is good for what it is...a fairly affordable hair cut in the middle of a city. I used to live in NYC, and it was impossible to find a place under $150 for a color and cut. I got both at PR for about $100 so that wasn't too bad. But it wasn't AMAZING. I think the color is great (although I wanted to have it be a little lighter and the guy didn't seem interested in doing that) but the hair cut was pretty boring. I asked for something fun and I don't think they were interested. Maybe b/c they had to take a really long time on the color that they were running behind by the cut? I will go back b/c of the price and decent quality, but maybe I need another stylist? read more

I thought the stylist did a good job. -Plenty of space to wait for your appointment. They seem to provide a lot of different services. - My stylist was nice during my haircut. The check-in and check-out process was another case. Cons: - i called ahead about making an appointment and was confirmed. After waiting for my appointment to start for 20 minutes, i get a cancellation notification on my phone. I go to the front desk and the person says they can't fit me in. Things happen so i offer to leave and come back another time. Then they make it work, which i appreciated, but everyone seemed frustrated about fitting me in to the point i keep asking "are you sure?". It was very uncomfortable. - While checking out, i get charged double for my haircut. The person who charged me just leaves, frustrated, and hands the receipt to someone else to fix. That person fixed it ultimately, but i never saw my original stylist again. The second person handed me a void receipt and a new one receipt and then disappeared too. -The impression i got was that i was forgotten about and then when they remembered, i was one big inconvenience for everyone despite having an appointment on the calendar. I don't think i'll be returning.

I asked for and shared photos of ombre or balayage style color and ended up with partial highlights that abruptly stop at around the crown of my head. I should have known it would not turn out well when he was confused that I didn't want my "highlights" to go all the way to my roots. I reached out and he offered to fix but at that point it seemed the only option was to extend the highlights which is not what I was going for so I'm just going to let it grow out.
