This is my personal favorite Thai restaurant in the state. I find the atmosphere to be very comfortable and relaxed. Everyone is always super nice and helpful. My go to is the drunken udon with either seafood, or veggie/tofu. They are generous with the proteins and the portions overall. Apps like crab Rangoon a spring rolls are very good, too, and I think their pad Thai is exceptional. Oftentimes I find the dish at other restaurants to be overly heavy, sweet, or saucy, and I love Prai's version and think it reigns supreme. Balanced sweetness and acidity and simply well prepared. They have a yummy and creative drink menu as well. I have enjoyed getting takeout and thought both the ordering was smooth and the food traveled quite well. Overall I highly recommend Prai. We were in the area for the Celebrate West Hartford and stumbled upon this restaurant. The inside was spacious and clean but we decided to dine outside because it was nice out. The patio had two tables and it's very cramped quarters, but we were able to fit a baby carriage and our family of 4. The service was very friendly and attentive. We had the crab rangoons to start off with; crispy fried wonton and creamy cream cheese/crab filling. These were very good, up there with my one of my favorite rangoons. I had their Lychee-tini cocktail; it had a lychee in it and vodka, triple sec, and lychee juice. I loved the price of $8 which is unheard of lately for cocktails but the flavor was not good, it didn't taste like lychee. My entree was the green curry chicken and rice; the curry had coconut milk, eggplant, bell pepper, string beans, and basil leaves. This meal was really good, I loved the eggplants and I wished it had more. Next time, I want to try out their pad Thai, massaman curry, and yellow curry. It's been a while since we have been here but it still comes in at three stars. We had lunch which was crispy duck salad and Pad Thai. The duck was very well done and the salad was drowned in a balsamic type dressing. Not terrible but not good. The Pad Thai was ok but again nothing special in any way. Prai is probably one of the better Thai restaurants I've been to in Connecticut, but that isn't saying much since the bar is so low in general for this cuisine in the area. I'm used to having a Thai restaurant every block in Los Angeles to pick from, and this restaurant, if relocated there, would be considered average. Had the Pad Thai with chicken for lunch, and it was good, if not memorable. Heavy on the noodles, protein and peanuts (so much peanut!), but lacking in the vegetables. A scant amount of bean sprouts, and maybe at best two slivers of green onion. With those ratios, it tends towards being a heavier dish than it should be. Also tried a dish that's somewhat uncommon, crab fried rice. The flavor here felt very one-note... I tasted mostly fish sauce as the core flavor, while my wife (who is Thai) felt is was just Maggi fried rice with crab. The thing is, while the flavors were rather pedestrian, the cooking itself was terrific. Everything was done very well, and the egg in the fried rice was fluffy and not under or overdone. That speaks to the technique of the chef, to be able to combine and cook these ingredients without destroying the texture in the process. If only the flavors were more subtle, complicated... and they added more vegetables overall to balance the rest. One hint that I was eating at a more Americanized restaurant-- the utensils given to customers were a fork and knife. Thais eat with fork & spoon, and when I requested a spoon, I was given a massive serving spoon to use, and not a normal soup-sized spoon instead. We really enjoyed the friendly service, excellent hostess and attention to detail. We started with a Beef Salad which had a sweet, lime, spicy flavor unlike anything we'd ever had. The greens were fresh and it came with tomatoes, onions, cucumber strips and tender thin sliced beef. Just sumptuous! My Thai Basil Eggplant with Chicken was only $17 with a perfect generous portion of sweet eggplant, and lots of fresh basil sprigs. The chicken was tender and the rice was perfectly sticky. The Basil Chicken was similar but in this dish ground, with a delicious poached egg on top. Our total bill, with tip was $55.00 and worth every cent. Ordered their spring roll, vegetable dumplings, and Papaya salad. Wish they had a vegetarian friendly spring roll as I'm a big fan of them. The shrimp verison was ok but that's because I'm usually not a fan of shrimp to begin with. Aside from that, it was scrumptious to eat. Their lava cake was delicious too! They were friendly as they called to share that they were out of the green tea mochi but was willing to substitute with another dessert. I appreciated them doing that. They have happy hour! The happy hour chicken pad Thai for 7$ is the deal of the century for downtown weha. So tasty, not oily, and the portion is huge. The wings are so crispy and juicy and the sauce that comes with them is a glorious balance of sweet and savory. The Siam rolls are tasty and unusual. Long skinny crispy rolls filled with flavorful glass noodles. The soft shell crab salad was a little disappointing. The dressing is very vinegar heavy and I expected more than a single diced crab. I tried Prai for the first time in a few years and was pleasantly surprised. I've always loved how lowkey it is inside. I got a couple of appetizers: the shumai roll, the curry puffs, a thai iced tea, and beef drunken udon. The shumai rolls were perfectly crunchy on the outside and moist inside. The curry puffs, which were filled with chicken, potato, and spices, were easily my favorite. The flavor was a combination of sweet and savory and they were really filling. Impromptu dinner, seated immediately with a high chair. Seating is booth on one side, regular chairs on the other side. Environment is cozy and relaxed. Service is top tier. Besides the food being absolutely consistently amazing every time (drunken udon w/shrimp and chive pancakes with chicken satays are my favorite) I have ordered sometimes weekly for a couple years. Recently I had an order error through Uber eats, and even though it was close to closing time they came out and delivered themselves a new order to me. They genuinely cared of my experience and wanted to make sure I was happy with my order. Cute space! Empty at a lunch hour on a Saturday, we were quickly seated. Staff was very nice and welcoming Loved the food! Unpretentious, realistic portion sizes that are fair on pricing. I love the bowls that they served the food in too! Highly recommend the Mee Krob Rad Nah. This is a crispy noodle I've seen in a number of Chinese restaurants served in a style, but never had in Thai restaurants. I found it cooked well and blended nicely with the sauce and mixed veggies. I was actually really impressed with my takeout from Prai tonight. I generally order Thai from Blue Elephant Trail and decided to try something new. I got the crab Rangoon ($7) and the drunken noodles ($13 plus $1 for chicken). The food was ready on time - already a pleasant surprise considering how much difficulty I have with restaurants in the area for takeout. The crab Rangoon was a bit underwhelming but was cooked well and was a decent portion. I'm sure it would have been better had I not gotten it for takeout. The crab flavor could have been a bit stronger. Probably wouldn't order again, but certainly not bad. The drunken noodles were great - perfect spice level and they were flavorful with an ample portion of well-cooked chicken. Tried this place out with my friend and we both loved it. Space is definitely small so I would not recommend going during peak times. My friend and I ordered an app of edamame which was so good! Never had this before but for $4 we were given SO much! We also both ordered chicken pad Thai and got the a level 2 spiciness which was perfect! The portions are gigantic. I legit made my meal last for 2 more days after this meal! My friend also asked for their spices/ sauces to go with our meal which I never knew existed. Since 2017, the myriad of food choices in West Hartford Center has included Thai food from the Prai Kitchen. Three of us had lunch there today and the experience was excellent. West Hartford had a great plan to help out the restaurants along LaSalle Road. They converted it to a one-way street so the missing lane could be lined by Jersey barriers and repurposed into outdoor seating space for tables, chairs and elevated space heaters. It was in the very low 50's when we sat down at an outside table, but that pole heater sure did the trick and we were comfortable for our entire stay. We started off with a round of drinks and a Stella and Goose Island IPA were pretty reasonably priced at $5 each. I went for one of their cocktail specials and selected their "Slumdog" for $9. Our server warned that it was "pretty strong" and after a few sips I sure agreed. It came with a big sweet lychee fruit in the bottom of the glass. I had a serving of their Coconut Galangal Soup for $5 and really enjoyed it. It had coconut milk, chicken, bell pepper and scallions, it was delicious and was served piping hot. I went with the Drunken Noodles with Chicken ($13) which tantalizingly had three spicy asterisks attached to its listing. It was pretty much perfect for my tastes plenty of noodles, chicken, diced pepper, cherry tomatoes in a plenty spicy sauce that wasn't numbingly hot. I loved it! My wife and friend both ordered Chicken Pad Thai that was met with smiles of satisfaction. So there you have it -three cocktails, one soup and three lunched for $68. Pretty good value!! Homemade and they were full of flavor with a beautiful pastry. Yum! The duck roll was a miss though for me. Too much carrot and not enough duck. But once again, the ginger chicken was, in the words of my dining companion, "really really good". The key is to not overload it with ginger pieces. Add tender chicken and this was a winner. Then again the prai's chicken basil was a bit of a miss. The egg was over cooked on top and the sauce felt a little greasy. In addition for $18, the portion size was small, no leftovers. The menu seemed limited, but included exactly what we were looking to order: Two Pad Thai w/ Vegetables, two Crab Rangoon, and one Chicken Drunken Noodle with extra spice. When my experience is different from what friends and other reviewers describe I ponder why that happens. More often than not I do not post a review since I attribute it to perhaps just visiting on an off day. Except when the three strike rule is invoked...I can forgive a single lapse but when everything is subpar, I owe Yelpers my opinion. And my opinion is that this place is just bad. The cocktail glasses were a bit under filled, especially after the waitress spilled some while serving. The 40% upcharge for premium liquor was also excessive. I am a huge fan of Thai style Chile chicken wings and it seemed the perfect choice as an appetizer. 6 tiny wing sections served with sauce on the side in a little container reminded me of fast food chicken wings except the fast food variety are better. These wings were so small and had just a tiny modicum of fatty meat on the bones. I never met a chicken suffering from severe malnutrition but clearly that is the source of these wings. Moved on to "giant prawn" pad Thai. I would generally consider "giant" to be at least U 10 but these fell more in the 12 - 15 range. A reasonable portion at $ 18 would usually be about 4 or 5 shrimp. Instead there were 3 shelled but not deveined shrimp on top of mushy rice noodles with a too sweet sauce leaving a rather annoying after taste. When I ordered, I mentioned how I like the rice pudding dessert but as they cleared the plates they handed me my check without even offering dessert! Third strike. Maybe fourth. Either way, too many great Thai restaurants to waste my time here. read more

Overall delicious thai food! We tried Prai kitchen for the first time and ordered the vegetable spring rolls, coconut shrimp, chiang mai chicken curry noodles, and the pad see ew with shrimp! The food was piping hot, and used fresh ingredients. The only item I probably wouldn't order again is the coconut shrimp, as I dont think it actually had much coconut on it, and didn't taste as made to order/fresh as the other items. Additionally, we felt that the chiang mai curry could benefit from some salt/sugar to further balance it out, but overall that item was excellent. The pad see ew was our favorite item, well seasoned, crunchy veggies, and nice juicy shrimp. However it was slightly oily. Due to these very minor critiques, I would give this place 4 stars for our first order. Excited to go back and try additionally dishes! read more
