I thought an hour was fine for lunch, especially considering there was only one other customer in the restaurant, but I still had to go feed the meter. The chicken wings were nice & crunchy & not too greasy, but tasted more of oil than chicken & the duck was almost entirely carrot! Thank God for the tiny bit of mint in it bec that is all I could taste, but the shrimp balls were rated an 8 out of 10. We got mango salad & Chilean Sea Bass. None of the food came out together which was disappointing, & it's best to keep your eyes closed when you walk to the bathroom, because things don't look clean, but the entrees were actually very good. It didn't look like much fish or broccoli, but it was just enough and the fish and sauce were perfect. The mango salad was all about the lime dressing. I tried - drunken Udon - this is the most authentic Thai I've tried in a while!! The flavors were amazing and I like how you can pick your spice level between 1-5. I opted for 3 and it was the perfect kick. My friends tried their pad Thai and basil fried rice and loved it. I had such high hopes after seeing the yelp reviews and it did not live up to the expectations. We ordered take out and it was ready just on time. Pick up was quick and easy. It looks like a small dining area that was pretty empty for a Friday evening. We ordered our usual pad thai and drunken noodle, and tried the fishcake which was new for us. The fish cake hit the spot! Pad thai was a good portion but way too bland. The drunken noodle had a good level of spice, but other than spicy it was missing other flavors. Their Duck Pad C U [as stated on the menu] is the best. Thought since it was on on the lunch menu there wouldn't be a lot of duck...no way...it was filled with succulent duck! I think Prai has gone down hill since I started eating there. The quality seems lower and prices are high for what you get. I like that they have online ordering and takeout is quick. I usually get drunken noodles or pad Thai. I like their green curry with white rice. However the tofu dishes do not come with fried tofu. I was pretty loyal to the other Thai restaurant (Blue Elephant Trail) that is litterally right around the corner from Prai Kitchen. They have always been one of my favorite options for lunch/dinner when I'm in this area. My problem now is how can I be loyal to them now that Prai Kitchen is here? Prai Kitchen is a small but really nice Thai restaurant that seems to fit the West Hartford area very well. They got fairly busy for lunch when I visited on a Monday. One special menu item I viewed was the Deep Fried Shumai. I haven't seen this anywhere else, just steamed or pan fried. The picture looked great and I can't wait to try it next time. But the reason I didn't that they was because their Thai Dumplings sounded promising and I was happy to be right. Definitely homemade, meaty, had multiple meats actually. Chicken, shrimp, crab and water chestnut. It was just so good and I highly recommend it. As usual I test every Thai restaurant with one of my two favorite Thai foods: Drunken Noodles and Pad See Eew. Here at Prai Kitchen it was actually spelled "Pad C U" and I thought that was great. Today I went with Beef Drunken Noodles for lunch and I approve. This one is a little spicier than other places and it was nice and heavy, just the way I like it. Chewy noodles, meat was tender, vegetables weren't overcooked, and spicy but not too spicy for some to handle though it was still very spicy. Oh and for lunch my meal came with a Miso Soup and Salad. I also tried a little bit of their Chicken Curry and yes I approve of that as well. It wasn't my main dish so I can't tell you much but I know for a fact it was done right. Thai Iced coffee was great as well. Not super sweet like some other places and I can still taste the coffee. I didn't feel ripped off either here either, they give you a good amount which is nice. I know a few other places that charge $5 and give it to you either full of ice or in a fancy glass that's an excuse for giving you so little. Staff was very nice, my glass of water was ALWAYS filled which was perfect for my spicy dish. They were really good at keeping your glass filled. I know it sounds dumb but it's much appreciated, it was enough for one to notice they really pay attention to it and if you have a spicy dish you are in luck. The staff also gave the "welcome to my home let me serve you" kind of vibe and I loved it. To back that up, there was a grandma figure helping clear tables and fill water as well, very friendly and heartwarming staff. I might I have a new favorite for Thai lunch in this area. My experience was just really pleasant and the food was made from the heart. Of course I'd recommend Prai Kitchen to anyone who likes Thai, it's one of the better options out there for sure. So yes I am pleasantly surprised with my findings and hopefully everyone reading this gets the experience I got. read more

We would definitely say this is a must try. Appetizers: Fried Shumai was unique and delicious, fried chicken wings, sort of average however we like this style wing and fried very well in good oil. Crab Rangoon was much better than average, because it had a nice ratios of cream cheese to crab (the best we ever had was more of a crab ratio). Fried calamari was better than average, not over cooked and great sauce. The star of this meal is the Thai fried (we got vegetable), it is extremely good and I can't remember having a better fried rice. We also had Shrimp Drunken noodles which was much better than average and Emperor Chicken, which was really crunchy and very unique. Add Prai Kitchen to your list of Thai places in CT, because it is out of this world. It's the same owners as Siam in Glastonbury, which is also just as delicious. My favorite dish to get is either the ginger sauce entree or one of the curry dishes. The broth for the curry is so rich and creamy between the blend of spices and coconut milk. It's the perfect dish if you're looking for a warm & cozy meal. If you've never tried Papaya salad, then you have to give that a try! I squeezed the lime wedge over it & tossed it around with the crushed peanuts & springs. I'm changing the stars because I genuinely feel like this type of prompt service is rare these days and I appreciate them taking care of this as opposed to arguing with us about the situation! Really bad delivery experience today. The beef we ordered was raw -- I mean I'm all for rare beef but uh that's not what was advertised and it was mostly inedible. The pineapple fried rice had no pineapple, like zero pieces... The portions were tiny considering the cost. We paid $70 for a dinner for two! At that price the food should not be tiny, undercooked, and poor quality. I've usually had such a good experience dining-in so I'm just shocked that their delivery arm is so poor. For me, a couple of the Thai spots in West Hartford have been hit or miss, so I was thrilled to have an excellent experience at Prai. I came here a few weeks back to check out their prix fixe menu during West Hartford Restaurant Week. Prai had some really outstanding options showcasing various parts of their menu (4 courses for $20, $30 or $40 depending on the selections). Really, a LOT to choose from. I started with the coconut galangal soup with chicken, galangal, scallion and mushrooms, then moved on to the crab rangoon because I can't say no to anything that's fried. Both were terrific. Looking back, I somewhat wish I went for the $40 prix fixe instead of $20 because the higher end entrees looked amazing (short rib curry, chilean sea bass, etc). Still, I ended up going for duck pad thai which was absolutely perfect. Coconut ice cream finished off the meal, which hit the spot on a humid 90+ degree day. Can't wait to head back and check out more of the menu! read more

I expected to be impressed by Prai Kitchen considering that it's run by the same folks that own Siam in Glastonbury, but the fact of the matter is that Prai fell short. For starters, we had the Duck Roll and the Soft Shell Crab. The Chinese-style scallion pancake used as a wrap was crispy, but there was hardly any duck in this pricey app. A more apt name for this dish would have been a veggie roll as we had more julienned carrot and cucumber dressed in hoisin sauce than duck. The Soft Shell Crab had a perfect fry, but was deceptively small in size. We devoured the crab in two bites! The Lamb Massaman Curry, while coconutty, lacked spice! Nevertheless, the shank itself was seasoned well and fairly tender. For dessert, we went with the mango sticky rice. I was skeptical considering the apps and entrees, but the sticky rice was surprisingly impressive. The aromas of the coconut milk were pervasive throughout the rice. The fresh cut mango was had tender bright yellow flesh and the drizzle of sweetened coconut sauce tied the whole thing together wonderfully. One detail to note is that the interior of Prai is more conducive to an intimate date night than that of Siam thanks to the dim lighting. I also liked the dark wooden furniture and decorative seat pillows at certain tables. However, if you're looking for better value, I'm not sure you'd find it here! read more

I really wanted to enjoy Prai Kitchen, but even in my state of hunger, all their offerings ultimately fell flat. Duck Roll - The texture of the roll itself was fine but the duck was paired with so many pickled carrots and possibly hoisin sauce that it was completely overpowered. Soft Shell Crab - Portions here were simply just too small. It was one crab and a tiny one at that. For what they were charging, it just was not enough. To top it off, it did not have much in the way of seasoning either. Lamb Shank Massaman Curry - The curry itself was fair, but the lamb itself was simply not tender enough. There was no "fall off the bone" effect and I had to actually use the included steak knife to saw it off. Mango Sticky Rice - Surprisingly the only stand-out here. Generous with the mangoes and consistent texture for the rice, this was one item that did not disappoint. All-in-all, I would be hard pressed to come again, but would perhaps give their other offerings a try. read more

What a hidden gem! With all the restaurants in the center I had never really noticed this restaurant but I'm glad I saw it on West Hartford restaurant week! We got the $20 dinner which was well worth the price. Coconut soup, coconut shrimp (4 pieces), pad Thai with duck and green tea ice cream! The portion sizes were large and there was a ton of meat in the entrees. The coconut shrimp was very crispy on the outside but the shrimp inside was still tender. So good. Went for restaurant week and was blown over .... a must go , and place to keep in the cycle of date nights. First cocunut soup - amazing ! Could have not had the chicken and would have loved it more. Shared the papaya salad which was light and flavorful!! . Next crab goonies , a side from my own - I really loved these crispy and cheese morsels of goodness . I tried my friends spring roll and dumpling and was saying yum and yummy to those too ! So I was a bit disappointed to see they have a fairly small menu and didn't offer some of my favorite Thai dishes. Not everything on the menu is of Thai origin; such as Japanese ramen and udon noodles. But that's OK. It's a small restaurant. I get it. What I ordered was fine.
