First time trying this place, I so wanted to love it. It looks like not much from the outside, cool vibe on the inside. Not much direction on what you're supposed to do, but we figured it out, you had to order at the bar. I ordered a Smoke & Mirrors, they didn't know what it was so I got a smoked old fashioned. It was mediocre. They are supposed to be a whiskey and bourbon bar but they used Evan Williams in the drink. The bartender was not at all Friendly, seemed like we were putting him out. The food here is amazing, it's a nice classy and upscale gem in the Bay Area. The owner Josh is really friendly and can make just about any drink. The menus are nice, and informative for first timers who may not be sure what kind of drink they're going for. I'll definitely be going back to try more of the food, I tried the steak skewers which were wonderful and I hear they have different specials for different nights such as a prime rib night. I have yet to stop in for happy hour, I wish it ran a little later I always miss it. read more

Service is always suuuper slow whether there are 2 or 50 other people there. You're almost serving yourself half the time, cause you order at the bar and bring your glasses back to the bar yourself... Or really they just never clarify. Tables can be sticky. First time visiting as I don't live on this side of town but definitely will be returning. The ambiance was nice and the bathrooms were super clean. I love this spot! A big change from the previous lounge. Premium cocktails with a Midtown vibe right in Clear Lake. I've never been disappointed, and their Happy Hour is very reasonable. Nice hidden gem in Clear Lake area. Delicious alcoholic beverages, fun music, great service. For its size there is plenty of seating and even a few areas for people to stand and talk. Its definitely in my list for date night's as the music is mostly fun but the atmosphere definitely has a hint of romantic to it. Ever since the new management has revamped Preamble Craft Cocktail Lounge. It's been an upscale experience since coming back. The new lay out, restrooms, ambiance and crafted cocktails is what this place needed. My wife and I have enjoyed our new date nights out, especially so close to home and located in the best spot in Webster. I've even enjoyed a night out with the guys to watch the Astros. All the genre live music bands and DJ's that are played out every night has been entertaining. Here's to many more spectacular nights at our favorite lounge. read more

Great drinks with a ton of imagination. As the place filled the table service ended even though there were a ton of staff behind the rail just visiting with each other. Menu is limited and not particularly well executed. Flatbread was underdone, as were mushrooms. Hummus was excellent. They have a meat night (steak or prime rib? This is a neat craft cocktail bar in the Clear Lake area that isn't much a secret anymore. In addition to creative (and rotating) specialty cocktails, they have a long row of draft beer options, a combo that is not passed by any in the area. The drinking space is pretty basic, high tables, low tables, couch tables, etc. It's relatively dark inside, not much window space but that's the vibe. There is a stage but I have yet to be there for music or otherwise. There is a couple of TVs but this isn't your place to watch games, it's definitely more for the company you keep and the strong drink menu. The theme is somewhat colonial Constitution, so there you go. The food menu is basic but creative. They have prime rib Wednesdays which can and will run out quickly, get there early. And there are other creative options (including skewers, stuffed mushrooms, flat bread pizza, you name it). It's a good place to go with a group and order a few items and shaare The service is very personable and responsive. There is usually just a couple of people keeping bar and orders going (plus back bar help), but they are top notch. You may catch them at the wrong time (e.g. a rush or long drink order) but just be a little patient. You won't regret it. I have usually been on weeknights and I like the slower vibe. More like a quiet place than a crowded packed one. But if you want a place to visit before a movie at the nearby theater or as part of a rotation of the increasing number of bar options in the area, this is a place for you. read more

This is exactly what Clear Lake needed...a good cocktail bar! Josh has definitely set the bar high for anyone else with future endeavors of opening up a bar in this area. I used to frequent this place all the time when it was Daiqui-Ritas and during it's last six months or so, it was clear that it was time for resuscitation. I knew Josh had taken over the ownership of it, but I had no idea that he would have this type vision for it. Finally, Clear Lake has a taste of some of the popular Midtown/Downtown Houston spots without having to drive into the city. When you walk in, you will definitely get the feel of a speakeasy. It has eclectic vibes bouncing throughout the atmosphere. The layout is very versatile and seating is plenty. You have your choice of bar seating (great for watching them whip up all their fancy cocktails), table seating that's great for socializing in a small group or couches to lounge with your significant other. We came during happy hour and were able to try several drinks such as the Mint Julep and Garden Gimlet, but my favorite was the French 75. It was the bomb! I definitely recommend coming during happy hour to take advantage of their amazing drink specials. The music wasn't too much of my style, but it's what you would expect from a place like this. However, the playlist that was going on at the time did throw in a few old school songs and some John Legend. There are no waitresses, but the service was top-notch and the bartenders were very welcoming. One particular bartender, who seemed to maybe be the manager of the place, went out of his way several times to stop by our table to check on us. Also, we got a chance to talk to Josh on his way out and he mentioned some of his future plans for the place. We stumbled upon Preamble as we were leaving the nearby sushi place on date night and decided we'd take a peak in. I had actually already bookmarked it on Yelp in advance, as fate would have it we happened to notice it on their grand opening weekend! It was the first day they opened (Friday-excluding their soft opening Thursday) and they were doing happy hour specials all weekend long. We have been waiting for an excellent cocktail bar in our area for so long! It has an amazing atmosphere, I can honestly say there's nothing else like it in Clear Lake, think speakeasy style. There's plenty of plush couches and tables to go around, as well as a stage for live music and DJ booth. We met the owner, Josh, and he was super friendly and welcoming. It feels good to support a small business that cares about their customers. Josh is born and raised in the area, and is adding a great addition to a growing community. We tried numerous drinks - the old fashioned, Ramos gin fizz (FYI this one takes a little longer), dark n stormy, garden gimlet, tippling mule, mint julep, ward 8 and French 75. So yes, basically the entire happy hour menu, lol! It did take awhile to get the drinks but I'm chalking this up to it being their first night open, there was probably about 100 people there or so. We will most definitely be back - whether for date night, after work drinks or just casual fun. This is the new hot place to be! read more

Preamble is not the place I grew to love five years ago. I was so excited to visit once I felt safe to do so. Instead, I was the only patron wearing a mask, and I felt intentionally alienated for it. I walked in with two other customers sans masks, and while both were courteously greeted, I was left to ask for service myself as the bartender refused to acknowledge me or ask if he could help. Sit down, Be calm and have a cocktail- or two!. Oh yesssss! I did this Friday afternoon during happy hour at Preamble. Its a fairly new cocktail joint and I was introduced to it by fellow yelper Alkeisha. Boy am I glad she did. It was once known as Daquiritas but the owner wanted a change in vibe so he came up with Preamble. It is located in a small strip mall which is right next to Cine Mark off of I-45. While we were seated we chatted a bit with the owner who came by to greet us and he let us know that he has some more plans in store for the location so I really look forward to seeing it come to fruition. As you walk in the place is set up with bistro tables down the middle which point you straight to the nicely set up bar. There are large couch style lounging chairs on either side of the bar and a stage as well. The space is set up perfectly for that chat and mingle vibe. Music is played overhead but its not too loud so you could have a great personal conversation with a friend or significant other. Their happy hour time is very casual but keep in mind that they do enforce a dress code after 7:00 pm so come dressed to impress. They have live music on certain nights and they feature different styles of music including jazz. The first drink I tried that evening was the mint julep which is a refreshing concoction of whiskey and mint and a great starter. The bar tender was off the chain. He came by just to check how we were doing and was giving drink suggestions as well. Afterwards I decided to try the Garden Gimlet and it was tangy, sweet but it was subdued by a wonderful herbal infusion that came from the fresh basil. This was our first time at Preamble. We've been wanting to try it out since December. They are fairly busy on the weekends. Not overpacked or uncomfortable but definitely not a place to sit until someone moved from a barstool or table. There are a few places to stand with drink rails but not many. A small section of couches and tables is to the right upon entering. We approached the bar and were handed menus by a bartender with a black and white, long beard. He was friendly and knowledgeable and made drink suggestions. I asked him about a menu item named "key lime fizz" which sounded yummy. Out beside the name it reads (not available at peak times). He explained that it takes one bartender about 6-9 minutes to make. He did suggest a peach mule to me that I didn't see on the menu but it tasted great! My husband ordered an old fashioned. He said he didn't think it had any whiskey in it at all. I agreed with my second drink-a Moscow mule. Great taste but definitely poured light. We noticed two chairs at the bar open up and grabbed those thinking we'd be served faster sitting there. Not the case. A heavy set guy wearing an apron was apparently serving that end of the bar. He seemed stressed and not very personable. He asked us if we needed anything. I wanted to ask a drink question but noticed that he seemed to be having trouble hearing other customers so I just ordered another mule. Hubby got another old fashioned. Same thing with the light pours. The drinks and bar service were overall disappointing! I love the stone along the walls which makes it feel more like a stand alone bar and not in a strip center. The movie theater next door was doing a Rocky Horror picture show thing so the parking lot was full when we arrived about 11pm. We were thinking it'd be standing room only in the bar but luckily not the case. Unfortunately, the turnaround on actually getting your cocktail still wasn't any better. I love the bottles lining the bar wall! Although, I have a feeling they aren't using any of them in drink recipes. They do look cool and it gives the feeling of a midtown bar. They have a Dj on Saturday nights. The music was a mix of danceable top 40 and classic party favorites. The small dance floor filled with people around midnight. It looked like a fun vibe! The crowd is a mix of 30's professionals and 40's/50's night out-ers. We will give it another chance but as of now we aren't all that impressed. Cocktails were very good. The idea is nice. The couches and chairs were torn up. The bathrooms were very gross. There was stuff growing in the toilet and blood on the toilet seats. They open at 4 and we came in at about 4:05. There was no toilet paper and i informed the bartender. When we left at 7:30 there was still no toilet paper. Meanwhile all the staff stood behind the bar talking. It was a nice visit with my friends but i will suggest some place else next time. read more

New fave bar in town! Came here on a Saturday night with some friends, and glad we went. Sage and Carlo were very cool and attentive, and even hooked it up with a free shot of some kind of alcoholic avocado shake, especially since Carlo used to live in the Philippines and knows how the Filipinos roll! The drinks do take some time to make, but they pay attention to every single detail to ensure for the perfect drink. Ingredients are fresh, including fresh fruit and even flowers, and you really taste a good balance of all the ingredients listed in every drink. Drinks to definitely try are the Mango Mojito, Texas Tea, and the Caipirinha. We'll be back to try more during happy hour! read more

Went in for the first time yesterday. Sat down on couches,and waited for service for 10 minutes. No one came. Even though both bartenders and Bar back seen us. Seeing it was our first time in, we didn't realize we had to go to Bar. We asked one of the bartenders if we had to order from Bar. He said yes and then walked off without taking our order. Took another 10 minutes to get someone to wait on us. Finally one of the bartenders came over and we asked if they had wine. He said yes. Again, no explaining what they had. None of the employees were friendly and really didn't care that we had one drink. We just got up and left. So very disappointed. Was really looking forward to bringing more friends in. Pretty good for my first time. Carlo, my bar chef, did a great job making the drinks I ordered. Will say I'm confused/concerned regarding the owner's decision to have this place in the same shopping center that has a discount movie theater and a bar that is anything but Irish even though it goes by an Irish name. Needless to say this place will do well if marketing and drink prices reflect other local area bars. This isn't an "inside the loop" bar, so don't charge "inside the loop" prices. It's about time clear lake got a good cocktail lounge. My fiancé and I have already decided this is going to be our new spot. We tried about 5 different drinks, all AMAZING. Happy hour was all day today (Monday), so we had to! Two drinks I ordered weren't even on their soft opening menu: The first was a brandy milk punch, I've been looking to recreate this same drink I had in New Orleans and they made it perfectly. The second was a bloody marry, which they cut up fresh veggies and made the mix from scratch. It was FANTASTIC. One of the best I've ever had. We also tried the Fizz drink, old fashion and champagne cocktail. 5 stars! The staff was friendly and very accommodating. I couldn't find a single thing I didn't like about the place. Moving from midtown, I was sad about having to leave behind all the great bars within a 2 mile radius. When I found Preamble, I was pretty happy that I found a place that knew the art of a good cocktail. The owner is super friendly and outgoing and on most nights, you can probably catch him walking around and talking to the patrons to assure they're having a great time. The bartender (not sure what his name is) but is so knowledgeable on his liquors. This is rare for someone who's still in his 20's! I was very impressed with him. I love that they have a seasonal drink menu that changes all the time and this past summer in particular, they had a Mexican candy drink that I just craved randomly one too many times. When not drinking that, I definitely recomment the a martini (both regular and cucumber), French 75, and a good ol' Old Fashioned. I love that they have also recently just started serving food which is another incentive of coming here! I tried the steak and arugula flatbread with a friend and it was a tad over salted to be honest...but definitely had the potential. It seems like I love this place, right? The 4 stars is for quality alone however, I knock off 1 star for the sole reason that the ordering process is a PAIN. I can see not having any patience to stay around when everyone has to order at the bar. People sitting at the bar are overcrowded with a long line of peple trying to get drinks and you're in line so long, you miss out on the purpose of hanging out with your friends to begin with just because you're replenishing drinks. Preamble is becoming pretty busy with the new additions to the menu, etc. They need to go ahead and improve customer service even further by increasing their staff, designated servers, more bartenders (who are just as educated as the bartender I had). Well, I was SO looking forward to visiting this place & finally had the time today. Unfortunately, I'm unimpressed. I sat at the end of the bar for about 10 minutes before anyone greeted me. The greeting was a simple "here's a list of our specialty cocktails..." and then he was gone. Really. Only 3 others at the bar & a couple of tables with 2-3 ppl at them. It was 6:25 PM on 12/28. When the bartender came back, I let him know that it was my first time here & I asked to see their wine list & menu (he may have wanted to give me a quick run-down of the place, recommend a drink/etc.). No list, just a house wine sir. O-kay... I realize it's primarily a craft cocktail place but c'mon, really? I was then told they only had 3-4 of the 11 items on their food menu (he mumbled something about their Christmas party that I didn't understand). Um, seriously??? Ordered the house Cab & the Filet Mignon Skewers with Chimichurri (sauce), medium rare. More about that later. The ambiance is fairly-well thought out. Dimly lit, music a little loud but not overly so. Not much in the way of decorations, which is fine by me. Decent crowd of all ages, most ppl staring into their phones (no fault of this place) lol. Large TV was off, but music was hip & contemporary. Both bartenders spent nearly all their time at the other end of the bar, trading off looking at their phones for chatting with a couple that may have been friends of theirs, who knows. My late father was a bartender for over 40 years & he's turning over in his grave as I type this. About 15 mins later, the BT walked back to hand me silverware & let me know they were still working on my order. And then he was gone. Again. Went right back to the opposite end of the bar to stare into his phone. Intently. :/ I've often thought of opening a craft cocktail place and/ or upscale wine bar. If I did, I'd spend A LOT of time training my employees to take an active interest in patrons; it's part of the experience. The cook delivered my skewers (pictured) & he enthusiastically said, enjoy! Nice guy. They were good (albeit medium, not medium rare), but the sauce was meh. I chatted briefly with the BT when he stopped by to ask me how my skewers were & to see if I wanted another glad of vino (yes please). I learned they were unexpectedly open for NYE, which was a surprise to the BT, who I sense was a Mgr perhaps (ouch) because he was stressing a bit about being able to staff NYE appropriately due to the short notice (hey, that's life). Overall, 2 stars with LOTS of potential! They need to hire me as GM/ co-owner, lol. P.S. As I was about to leave, another couple sat down & ordered one of their signature cocktails, the Cucumber Martini. Yep, you guessed it. They were out of cucumbers, oy vey! read more

The speakeasy thing is so 2009 but anyone trying to make a respectable cocktail gets points in my book. I came here with a friend on a Monday night, and the whole experience was just "okay". I was immediately turned off by the fact that the 2 menu items I wanted (I had studied the menu before hand) were no longer offered. That and the 2 beers I ordered were out of stock. It's holiday party season so I won't hold that against them but it was still a minor annoyance. The bartender was nice, my drinks were drinkable and the atmosphere was okay. Dark, some cheesy sponge painted walls, and comfy looking seating areas. The one thing this place has going for it is it's lack of competition. There are very few cocktail lounges in the area so if that's what you're looking for this place will win by default. But if you're willing to make the drive you can do better. read more
