I am NOT this mechanic. I am one of his many customers that have been his customers for years. Let me address some of the complaints here because their ignorance is driving me nuts. First, as a customer, we personally fix our own vehicles unless we don't have the time or tools to fix the problem. We do have the mechanic change our oil because who wants to change oil? We also have the mechanic check the under carriage because we don't have a lift. We have gone to this particular mechanic for twenty some years because we know they are honest. Second, there are several places with very, very similar names, enough to drive you crazy. You can tell by the reviews that they don't have the correct mechanic by the way they talk about the place or the mechanic. Third, they say that they left their vehicle here for two months and they didn't fix it. Not possible here. A limited number of parking spaces exist that all the mechanics share and they watch the spaces constantly. We were stranded waiting for tires to come in on the afternoon shipment. The absolute nut case from Calabazas Auto came up and threatened us with calling the police for sitting there for more than an hour. We called the mechanic and they straightened it out, but someone should lock the Calabazas Auto guy up in the nut house. No, he didn't even apologize for screaming at and threatening someone else's customer. Fourth, the mechanic wears a head phone with a microphone on him as he works. He answers the phone right away unless his hands are full or he is using the facilities in which case I really don't want them to answer the phone. So those people who say that he never answered the phone weren't accurate about the name of the place they are complaining about or were Fifth, this mechanic has an OBD2 scanner. Some of the things that people have complained about not being found would display codes on an OBD2 scanner. You plug an OBD2 scanner under the dash and it displays the codes and tells you what is wrong with the vehicle. Sixth, in any hour of any day, you can see the mechanic driving loops around the parking lot or on the street to test vehicles. Claiming that the mechanic didn't do a test drive is just throwing wild unsubstantiated attacks at someone without any proof. I dismiss any complaint that makes false claims because what else are they lying about? Seventh, I know quite a few mechanics who scam people. This mechanic is not one who tries to scam people. He has dismissed some charges at times. Scammers do not do that. Eighth, he is not perfect. He is human. But there is a reason why people keep recommending him on Reddit and Yelp, and why he has a loyal customer following. He is the type of mechanic you always wanted: someone you can trust, someone you don't have to stress about, and someone you can calmly discuss things with. read more

I saw all of the good reviews and decided to come here but I was not impressed. I had a check engine light so I brought it in. They called me back the next day and said it was a throttle idle control valve so I agreed to the work and paid $390. They also cleaned the throttle body. So I picked up my car and on the way home the check engine light came on again and it ran rough. I don't even believe that they test drove it after the repairs. I called back and explained the issue (believe me, getting them to answer the phone is a mission in itself). Tin (the owner) told me to bring the car back in for an adjustment. So I brought the car back and they had it for a week. I never heard anything so I kept calling. Eventually I reached them and they said that the car is ready to pick up. Great. So I go there the next day and Tin is nowhere to be found. His brother doesn't know what is going on with the car so I have to wait for Tin. I waited for more than 3 hours and he never came. Finally his brother reached him and said that I can take the car but I have to bring it back another day to finish the adjustment. What? I asked how long they would need to keep it this time because I can't leave it for another week and be without a car for another week but he couldn't tell me how long. I left and never came back. I took the car to another mechanic that I trust but who is very far from here. He told me that for $390 there is almost no way that they used an OEM part. It was most likely aftermarket and the aftermarket version of this part is awful. Great, I was never given an option by Tin. He also told me that they "adjustment" that they did was just to change a factory set limit screw. Since they moved that screw and there was no way to reset it, I also needed a new throttle body. He also showed me that when they took off the throttle body to clean it, they didn't even bother to put on a new gasket. Super lazy work all around. In the end, I paid an additional $1,350 for a new throttle body and throttle idle control valve but thankfully, it's running perfectly now. Don't go to this shop unless you want expensive headaches and to ultimately waste your time and money. They may be honest but I don't think they do quality, long lasting work. read more

Took my 2014 BMW X3 to the dealer on Stevens Creek and almost got ripped off ... this led me to look for an alternative and I found Precise Auto Care... Stevens Creek BMW gave me a quote for over $2400 for rear brakes, tired, alignment ($500 just for the alignment), etc. They also quote me $180 to change a headlight. I drive to Precise Auto Care... they tell me rear brakes have another 10K miles left to go, tires even more and that the car has a sensor to tell me when the brakes need service and to wait for that service warning. was going out of town and didn't have the time to do my own oil change so I took my S2000 there for a basic oil change. I ended up being there for more then 30 mins. There was only 2 guys there and they kept going back and forth on my s2000 a customer who walked in and another car they were doing a rear diff flush on. **WARNING BAD MECHANIC****** I went to that place because I found it on Yelp and it is very close to where I live. I had a burn smell my car so i went there so the mechanic can check it. He told me that the top gasket of the engine was leaking. He charged me $320. And week later, my car was still smelling burn, so i took my car back and he told me that the back of the engine was leaking. He told me, it should be fixed. A week later, still smelling oil burn, so i take it to another mechanic: I found out that my car was leaking from everywhere, even the coolant was leaking. I got there and nobody was to be found at 3 pm on friday afternoon. I sat in the lounge for about 15 minutes... nobody came by. I hate be the negative nancy out of so many great reviews but I wasted about 45 minutes roundtrip. I trusted you yelp!!! I ended up going to jiffy lube by my house for their mediocre service. I've been to the shop on three separate occasions. The first two were for my '01 Escape. In both cases, I was expecting to be hit with crazy fees to fix, but Tin gave me very fair prices. He never tried to charge me for services I didn't need, turnaround was fast, and prices for the work required were very fair. No complaints at all. Today my girlfriend managed to peel off part of the plastic protective shield on the bottom of her car, and my first instinct was to call up Tin. The shield had actually ripped part way through and was hanging almost as low as the street. After explaining the problem, he told us to come by. We may have to leave the car there for few hours while he sourced parts, but no big deal. The actual experience was more like 5 minutes long. He had us pull the car into his garage, jacked it up, drilled a few small holes into the shield, and grabbed some plastic wire ties from his work bin. Then, he used the wire ties to tie the partially ripped shield back into its original position. The end result is just as sturdy as if we were to spend $100 on a replacement part. That is some MacGuyver shit right there. Clearly he's been around the block a few times. read more

They FIXED the problem! To me, that's all it matters! Highly recommended! Here is my story: My car's evil check engine light went on 2 weeks ago, and the engine was shaking pretty badly whenever it's at idle. So I took it to mechanic #1. Mechanic #1: The error code is system too lean. The problem might due to the intake manifold ($300, part only) and/or mass air flow sensor ($214, part only). Me: What should I replace in order to fix the problem? Mechanic #1: Hmmm, not sure. I can't guarantee anything. Basically, mechanic #1 couldn't pinpoint the problem. Instead of spending $514 + labor and get nothing done, I went to mechanic #2. Mechanic #2: It's gotta be the mass air flow sensor! $216.58 please $$$. Me: You sure it's gonna fix the problem? Mechanic #2: YES, $216.58 please $$$. After replacing the sensor, the check engine light went off, but the engine still shook pretty badly when it's at idle (fooled me once). It felt like the engine was choking. So I went back to mechanic #2 again. Mechanic #2: It's gotta to be the tune-up! You need tune-up. $289.75 please $$$. Me: So after the tune-up, the engine will stop shaking??? Mechanic #2: YES, $289.75 please $$$. So I did the tune-up, and it still didn't fix the shaking problem (fooled me twice). Before I left, mechanic #2 was like "it's probably due to some xxx part (I forgot the name of it), and it costs $1000+". Aaaarghhh...forget it! Since the evil check engine light is off, I guess I can still drive it. I did drive it, but not for long. The evil light went on AGAIN last night! It was driving me CRAZY! Since I don't know what goes after "fool me thrice", I decided to check Yelp trying to find a mechanic who can actually FIX things. That's how I found Precise Auto Care. I took my car in this morning. Viet told me the error code was system too lean (Still?! So basically I spent $506.33 at mechanic #2 for nothing! Yes, I got jacked!), and he needed my car there to do a thorough inspection (Thorough is good!). So I did. After an hour, Tom called me saying that there was something wrong with a hose, and to fix it, it's gonna be $300. Sure, why not, just FIX it so I don't have to see that stupid check engine light again! After another 3 hours or so, they called me again saying that my car was ready. So I went in. Tom showed me the hose that was causing the problem. It had a hole on it. That's why the check engine light went on and that's why my engine was shaking. The bill ended up to be $289.98. They changed the hose and the intake gasket. Hose: $22.70 Intake Gasket: $59.66 Labor: $200, $80 per hour While I was driving back from the shop, I could feel the difference immediately. The engine was smooth like baby oil. I will let you guys know how it runs after 2 weeks. I have always been cheap to pay inspection fees. Precise Auto Care does charge inspection fees. But now I'd rather pay for it and let them find out what exactly the problem is then spending all the money and replacing all the parts that have nothing to do with the problem. A $506.33 lesson. I am giving them 5 stars for now, but with the same caveat that I pass along to anyone that I talk to in person: consider the review in line with the type of work being done. 5 stars for changing wipers is really irrelevant, whereas an excellent engine overhaul/rebuild is worth a lot. My car needed some brake work done: I needed at least one new rotor up front, and I assumed that my rear brakes were needing replacement. I went online to get the best deal on the rotors, pads, drums, and shoes that I wanted, as my car requires more than OEM. They quoted a great price for the work on just the front, so I told them to go ahead and do the front and back. (I am strapped for cash!!) They worked me in immediately. One thing that I appreciated is that I got a call a while later: they said that there was still 50% left on the rear drums, so I didn't need to replace them, and they just wanted to confirm whether or not I still wanted to replace the rear parts. The work was completed well within their time estimation, which is another thing I really appreciate. The brakes seem to be fine and I've experienced no brake-related issues. For this particular work, it's definitely worth 5 stars. I will probably update this again, as I am going to give them some more significant work to do on my piece of junk car. read more

He is nice and friendly, and is sure to let you know what it is thats wrong with your car, and shows you your old parts and what was wrong, and what he fixed. He is extremely honest and will never try to "sell" you anything you don't need. His prices have always been more than fair and cheaper than most shops. HONEST Mechanic. Let's put it this way: the dealership said it would be 1400-7000.... YES, up to 7000 to fix. We decided to stop trusting them and get a second opinion. I mean, first of all, that's quite a range to give as an estimate. Second, it just seemed shady after we had JUST spent over $1000 with them last month and the problem still wasn't fixed. (This car was seriously making us broke and causing a LOT of stress in our lives.) My husband Erin S. and I checked with one of our friends who also owns a Jeep Cherokee (but a newer model) and they take it to Precise. So off to Precise we went. $60 later and our car is fixed. YES, you read that right. $60. We wanted to weep with joy! We didn't have to eat Cup of Noodles tonight! Apparently the hose just had a leak and needed tightening. Something that the dealership said they had fixed. Even if they had messed it up the first time, you would have thought they would have caught it the second time around. Shady, shady dealership. Don't they have any shame? So that means that either the mechanics at the dealership were incompetent or liars. My husband and I were fuming that the Jeep dealership could be so dishonest. We really like to be trusting people... I mean, I had been going to the service center at the dealership for two years and even knew the guys' wife's name, dog's name, etc. Wow. I actually signed up for a yelp account just so I can leave a review here. Tin is an awesome guy. I can't even express how glad I am that yelp helped me find him. I hit a huge bump and knew I damaged my radiator once I opened the hood and saw that coolant was sprayed all over my engine. I called around to almost 20 different places and each one of them quoted me almost $100 more than Tin and were a lot less accommodating. I wanted to bring my car in on the weekend since I work in Walnut Creek and didn't have time until then and Precise Auto Care was the ONLY place willing to be open this holiday weekend (July 4th). The weekend didn't work out since his supplier wasn't going to be open but I still appreciated the fact that he was willing to try. I ended up having to drive my car there at night and dropping off the keys but it seemed like a safe enough place (huge parking lot) that I felt ok leaving my car there. All in all, Tin was quick to diagnose what was wrong (giant crack in my radiator) and replaced all the parts. He showed me where the crack was originally when I went to pick up my car this morning and everything looked great. The price was great, too. I drove my car all the way from Santa Clara to Walnut Creek and made it here without a problem! Not to mention that Tin is probably one of the nicest, most honest mechanics I've met. Thanks Tin! Still as awesome as ever! My left tail light went out 3 weeks ago and when my right one went out yesterday, I decided I couldn't put it off any longer... I needed to have some tail lights! I called and asked if I could come right over. They said it was fine. I parked outside and within 15 minutes, they had replaced my bulbs and charged me $25 and I was on my way.
