I am so disappointed with the service I received earlier today for my dog's Anesthesia-free teeth cleaning. I have been going here for the past four years and normally everyone is super friendly, however, I started to notice now that the guy that works there (or the owner not sure?) has been the one handling the front desk the last few visits he has been very unorganized and has an attitude. Last month I had scheduled my dogs monthly teeth cleaning with him over the phone and when I showed up to check in with the girl and I told her we scheduled the monthly anesthia-free teeth cleaning, she let me know that it had actually already taken place. I am not sure why he would have scheduled me for something that wasn't available, but we got my dogs nails trimmed since we were already there. I saw him and let him know I guess I missed this month since they don't have the service today, and he went ahead and scheduled me for next month, no apology for the extra trip or misunderstanding. The previous month before that, my dog didn't really need the teeth cleaned, but took her in since we have been going for the monthly service, and got her nails trimmed as well. I get a call 5 minutes later that they were finished? I went to pay and he charged only for the teeth cleaning, so I had to remind him she got her nails trimmed too. Seemed strange they were finished so quickly when normally the service takes 30 minutes, makes me wonder if they even completed the service... Today, after the service was over and I was ready to pay, he asked "you missed last month right?" I said yes, but I guess there was a miscommunication, since we had made an appt. with you and showed up for the cleaning, but when we arrive you said it had already passed. He didn't even want to try to listen, or understand that it was their mistake. I only had $40 cash on me so said I would be back to go to the bank so I could leave a tip, and he replied "why don't you just leave me the $40?" There were other people waiting in the shop, and it made me feel like he was suggesting that I wasn't going to come back with the money, very uncomfortable. I gave him the $40, but didn't return back. And to be honest after this type of customer service I will definitely never be going back. read more

When I had a dog, I always took her to Preferred by Pets. The girl who runs this is very friendly and does a really good job. As my dog got older, she would let her run around in the back because she was afraid of the cages. The prices are fair, it was about $45 for the cut/shampoo/dry and Roxy always came home looking like a million bucks. The hours are a little inconvenient if you work but it's worth it. Also, it's important that you plan ahead, it can be difficult to get a last minute appointment. read more

I had my cat washed here right before my wedding because I knew I'd have a lot of people over. They told me I had to leave her four hours and asked if she needed a flea bath (bad sign). My cat caught fleas which she has never had before and she's 18. The night before my wedding I had to stay at the hotel with my family because the vet couldn't see her right away. I'm never using a groomer that offers flea baths again. And four hours?! Her old groomer used a blow drier, and I could stay with her. They say it's so the pet doesn't get anxious but my cat gets super freaked the moment I leave (super clingy) read more

I really have to respond because I've seen/ heard some negativity regarding preferred by pets- they have always been polite and professional and gone above and beyond helping me and my elderly dog. We had a bad experience at the vets with nail clipping, and we came here in desperation. The employees were kind and understanding. When I explained how fearful he was and asked if he could be clipped in the waiting area, they said, "no problem- and, we'll use the Dremel drill rather than clippers." We've even back at least five times and have had at least three different people, every one has been great. read more

I was able to make an appointment short notice and they were accommodating of my time table, which was just over 3 hours. The staff was nice and friendly. My dog came back just as happy as I left her, and they say she did great. The reason for the 3 stars was the quality of work. Im not sure if it's because I needed it done slightly quicker, but for what I paid I expect a better Job. I have a Cockapoo, which is just over 20 pounds. I did not ask how much the grooming would be when I dropped her off, but when I paid it seemed like they just came up with a number which was 60 bucks and I tipped an extra 10. I usually pay around 55 with tip other places. Overall she came back okay, but you can see the lines from the electric clippers all over her, and she has spots they missed on her legs and belly. Overall she is uneven and just looks slightly off. Given the close proximity to my house now I will most likely give this place one more shot, I hope for a better job in the future. read more

I have a Multipoo and has very cottony fur and aaaallllooootttt of anxiety about being groomed. I put off getting him groom for as long as possible because it is so stressing for him ( he is 4 it's not getting better) I do a good job keeping him brushed and cared for but at a certain point about at 6 months after a cut he becomes matted very quickly. I called the this place and I was honest about his condition. I understand that the person who spoke with me Wanted me to know how serious matting is for the dogs health. Now here is where my problem came with this place. I told him I know and tried to express my reservation with getting him groom. With a lot of attitude he continued to talk to me with a lot of condescension. I tried to stop the call and told him I'll take him some place else if they don't want to do it. he continued to lecture me... I tried to just get off the phone and he just kept going... it was really unnecessary and made me uncomfortable with dealing with the place going forward. I ended up shaving my dog myself and honestly it didn't come out half bad. read more

Roo loves PBP! She always comes home smelling fresh and clean! She has more wag in her tail than she normally does after being groomed. I love her overall look when she is all shaved down with that scruffy sweet face of hers. I don't trust her with just anyone as she is family. I was referred to PBP by my landlord and so far so good! They do their best to get you into an appointment that fits your schedule. I was surprised on the "Eek! Methinks not." reviews. I am glad that that the owners of PBP were responsive to those reviews. I believe that everyone at PBP has your pets wellbeing at heart and gives them quality service and attention when you leave your pet in their care. I've been taking my 3 dogs here ever since they were born. One of my best friends introduced me to this place whenmy youngest was just a pup. I was so impressed that I've kept going back to PBP for the last 9 years. I have 3 pups, 2 long haired dogs that require haircuts and 1 short-haired chi-weenie. Having only given a few other big-named places a try (i.e., Petco - boo!), all I can say if that PBP is by far the best pet groomers in town! This is a great mom & pops shop that you can expect to treat your pets like family. For instance, a few years back I found my pups were taken out of their cages so they could play and relax until I went to pick them up, since it was the end of the day. They also put them all into 1 cage while waiting to get groomed so they can be together. This is extremely important to me since my pups are like my children. 1 of my dogs is very shy and skiddish, and even though he doesn't like to get groomed, I know he's not traumatized by his experiences at PBP because I don't have a hard time getting him through the door. Tip: I have learned that you do have to be very specific about how you would like your dog to be groomed. Sometimes "the same as last time" doesn't turn out to be on the same clippers setting, so I've learned to be very specific about that. A few times I've said that and my dogs were not cut down to the shortest possible setting, even though that was exactly how they were groomed the time before. read more

A friend recommended this place when I was looking to switch to an independent groomer. They are wonderful here! They take a very thorough health history before the first grooming. Everyone from the owners to the groomers are friendly and took good care of my pup. The prices are pretty close to the big pet stores and I couldn't be happier with my pup's cut. PBP is the best pet grooming place in SD! Our little Ruby loves going here to get groomed and since she is a bichon/yorkie mix, she is getting groomed often. I love that they use natural products and Ruby always smells great for weeks. You might be able to find a cheaper place to get your pet groomed but trust me, you get what you pay for. We (when we were a we) groomed our Curly for most of his life. As a treat to myself, I'd get him professionally done about once a year. We tried different places. As my sweet Petunia got older, he wouldn't let me touch him. I'd taken him to PetSmart before, but the groomer was really nasty when my senior had an accident. Chose Preferred By Pets because we'd been there before and by a vet's and another recommendation. He had an appointment tomorrow, but sadly I had to say bye to him today. The owners/groomers have always been knowledgeable, and helpful. My cat always looks A+ after his appointment, and struts around for days afterward.
