Needed to get my diesel truck smog didn't really feel like making an appointment . I wanted to show up and right away have somebody do my smog .I called several places but nobody was available till like the next day so I called preferred smog he said come on over he could fit me right away. I went to preferred smog the guy was super nice he took me right away smog my truck without a problem and I was on my way. I would deathly recommend him if you're getting your smog. I've been to Preferred Smog in Benicia 3 times and have been disappointed each time. I go back because it is so close but I wont go back again. 1st time, brought my stock 98 Toyota Corolla which didn't pass, brought it (same day) to a place in the industrial Park and it passed. 2nd time, brought my 04 Honda Odyssey in for smog and left it there, the man said they would call when it was done. Never received a call, had to call them at the end of the day to be told that it had been finished hours before and I had to get down there as they were closing. 3rd (and final time), website and sign on their door says they open at 8am on Saturday, got there at 7:45am, waited till 8am, 8:30am, 9am, and finally left at 9:30am along with about 5 other unhappy customers. Hopefully this yelp review will lead to improvements. read more

After my regular smog place in town was having issues with their machine, I went here after having heard good stuff about them from my folks and grandma. They were right!! Chaeb was the smog technician that did my 1995 Miata. He was extremely detailed and explained to me how a lot of smog centers won't even deal with 1995 and older year cars due to the difficulty and issues they present. Chaeb even gave me a really good discount. My time here only took 15 mins tops. They accept debit/credit cards also. This place is also very fair, honest, and friendly. This is a good place to go get your car smogged! I now have golden west smog and preferred smog added to my go-to places!! Heck, if one is busier than go to the other one!! Chip, the owner, was very polite, professional and completed my smog check in about 15 minutes. In fact, I left my home near Benicia High School at 3:30pm, stopped by the post office to mail some letters on the way, got my 2003 Toyota Tacoma smogged and was back home by 4pm. I took cash as one of the reviews mentioned that he wanted cash, but he stated that it wasn't necessary. He had a card reader at his desk and obviously accepts credit/debit cards. All I can say is that I would (and will) recommend Preferred Smog to anyone who needs a vehicle smogged. This was my first experience with having to have a vehicle testetd and it was for a 28 ft. motorhome that I had just been gifted! Chip, the owner was so cool and reassuring. I felt very comfortable and could tell he was not trying to pull one over on me. I found out while I was there that he also can take care of registration and vehicle title transfers right there on the spot!!?? This saved me from having to go spend hours at the dmv. In less than 2 hours I drove away with a smog certificate, current registration and tags and the title transfered to my name. I am beyond happy and so grateful there still exists an honest, fair and integrity based business owner like Chip! Since I am a huge procrastinator, I needed to get my son's 2004 car smogged today, New Year's Eve. Chieb got me in right away and was fast, friendly and fair. I was in & out in about 10-15 minutes! When I got home, I read the entire receipt, which is probably rare because, let's be honest, we are mostly concerned about the PASS on the certificate, and amongst the information such as charges for retests was this, 'If you work or volunteer for the "BUREAU OF AUTOMOVTIVE" there will be an additional $100,000.00 charge whether the vehicle pass or fail the smog inspection.' The grammar and spelling might be a bit off but I think it is fabulous..it made my morning!!!! Brahahahahahaha read more
