This company is in a strip mall with various other businesses around, and they tried to tow my car without any clear "designated parking" signs posted. I'm still a loyal patient of this TSO location all these years later & w/ no complaints! Dr. Butler is still 5+++++++ stars & so are the TSO staff. I really appreciate that this location offers evening appointments & even weekends ..very convenient for sure! The staff always take the time to look up your eye benefits, if needed just to make sure you're not coming out of pocket any more than needed, which these days it is definitely appreciated! Learning about Texas State Optical was a wonderful thing ... I was referred to TSO in Round Rock by my ophthalmologist in order to have my glasses made with my new prescription and my own designer frames. My doctor told me that TSO was owned and operated by eye doctors and that they use a very excellent lab. (My previous experience with a local box store was a frustrating disaster). The staff at TSO was welcoming and professional. They verified that my Rx was in order and that the frames I wanted use were in perfect shape. They told me that I'd have my glasses in about 2 weeks -- But 10 days later they called to say that my glasses had arrived. I went over to the Round Rock location, put on my glasses, and I COULD SEE AND READ AGAIN !!! This was after 3 months of suffering with do-overs from the previous (very large) optical provider. TSO is wonderful and I'm so happy to have found a reliable place to go to again next time I change my prescription. read more

Eva is an amazing and integral Part of this place, however, that being said I have been a patient now for many years, we go, my neighbor goes and my in laws go that is about 10 of us and we have all been feeling that it is sub par customer service. For me personally I love Eva and the doctor but when you're treated so rudely and dismissive by the others it makes it hard to justify spending over a grand a year on visits for myself and then another grand w special Glasses as needed for my husband. Great doctor, Great contact lens tech Eva, the test has left me very disappointed to the point of anger. I go out of my way to be kind to everyone, and that is everyone I meet or work with, however, It seems to me that the manager and the other employee whose name I don't know are always quite unhappy and make you feel it, making you feel Like you're the reason for their disgust or dissatisfaction. Can I give more stars than this to this location? I have been a patient here for many years. Dr.Butler is truly the best. He takes his time with you, treats you like you should be treated at a clinic (as a person and not a number), is very knowledgeable, kind and pleasant to talk with. I can't say enough about this doctor. They do not take my insurance unfortunately... but I keep coming here because it's more than worth it. That should be testament enough haha. There's even locations near the city I live - nope - I'm coming here. The staff is always so courteous and professional. I have never had anything but an awesome experience here. They're always cheerful, helpful and friendly! As far as Covid they are taking all appropriate measures and I don't think anyone would feel unsafe here. I highly recommend Dr Butler. I just left my eye appointment, I must say I love Dr Butler and his team Misty and Eva. He is an amazing man so friendly and really took his time explaining the whole treatment. The visit itself was okay; however, the receptionist (may also be a contact lens person) who checked me out after the examination was just not a nice person. She is the only reason I will not do service with this doctor again. Sorry Dr. Butler, but what happens when you close the examining door is not nice. Ms. Eva and the sweet young blond with long hair were super nice, talkative and welcoming, but the other one is playing doctor with me and I CANNOT stand that! I was over-charged and was told that my son had to stay in the contacts you gave him, not the brand he has been wearing for 5 years comfortably. This two minute conversation cost 57 dollars at TSO. When I contacted another TSO, I was told this charge is for first time contact lens wearers. UGH...... The mean lady said that charge is for all customers getting a contact lens check up....added to my cost of a check up! What bull!! When I called and left a message for the doctor, it was ignored. I highly recommend this location if you are looking for an optometrist that is friendly and resourceful. I feel very comfortable with Dr. Butler. He's the type of doctor you can trust(hard to come about nowadays) and he is someone you could address your concerns to. His front office staff are all very caring as well. My first visit the friendly ladies at the front were making sure that I was saving the most money possible with the contacts I had purchased. The second visit I came in, sweet receptionist Sherry spent 25 minutes of her time looking at glasses with me, and even calculated my exact out of pocket cost for a few. This is a great staff that truly goes above and beyond! I no longer live in round rock, but will continue to see this practice after receiving the best possible service. read more

I started out really liking this place! Very friendly! Dr. Butler was very kind, patient, and accommodating. He gave me a paper prescription for my contacts, and set me up with some glasses. He had me try some contacts, but they were way out of my price range, and I wanted to keep using mine. No worries! Well, since then we have moved, and I misplaced the paper copy he gave me for my contacts prescription. So I called this morning to get that same prescription emailed to me, so I can order my contacts online, which saves me about half the cost. At first, Amanda was polite, but in the end was telling me I had to come in to get it finalized. I explained to her that i'd Already been given a paper copy when I was there... so what needed to be finalized? Did he give me a bad prescription?! I didn't believe that. It sounded like they wanted me to come in, so i'd have to pay out more money. Not doing that! I asked her if she could just send me the same thing he'd given me day of (I think this may have been June or July.) I asked her if she was willing to help me, or if i'd have to figure something else out. She said yes, you'll have to figure something else out. I simply laughed and hung up. Like, really? That was not what I expected from what I thought was such a nice place. All I wanted was for them to send me the exact same thing the doctor had given me ALREADY! Not try to con me out of more money. I called back and asked for a manager, of which Tamra said she was "the closest thing to it," being the lead optician. I began to explain to her that I felt Amanda did not help me, and that she was kind of rude about it, and this woman CUT ME OFF!!! I am the customer! Clearly she is NOT the manager, and definitely not cut out to be one. She said she heard EVERYTHING (if she'd had heard both sides, maybe she would have identified that the level of service was below par, and that she was not helpful.) I was immediately offended, that she wouldn't listen to me (the customer.) The very first step in customer service is LISTENING! She repeated several times that she's "going to cut me off right there" and persisted I was in the wrong. She still refused to listen to me! She kept talking over me, and insisting that she speak. Unbelieveable!!! I have had some bad customer service experiences, we all have. But this, this was blatant. I'm still blown away. She hung up on me three times. Each time, I got a little more upset. I am a director in the hospitality industry, working in customer service for over 10 years. This woman, with the way she spoke to me, would be written up immediately if she were a manager. She may not be, but she very much deserves a reprimand, and a lesson in customer service. The last phone call I told her to not hang up, which she then decided she'd have the doctor call me... GOOD IDEA! After how much money I've spent at this place, and now the horrible service I received, I will not be returning. I will also make it a mission to ensure my neighbors, and my community, know what I experienced today. I will not say that I was easy to handle over the phone. I was upset, and rightfully so. And at that, I was NOT heard. However, being a front facing employee, Tamra really needs to work on her approach to customer issues and complaints. I will be sure the doctor knows my experience, as well as the board, of which I know a couple, well. (Another lesson in customer service, you never know WHO you're speaking to.) First time at TSO I took two of my sons to see Dr. Butler. He's such a great doctor. He took his time explaining each treatment we never felt rushed. We laughed a lot with him too. Dr. Butler is phenomenal. He is very astute and personable. My visit on 10.4.16 was the first time I'd visited for services and I must say I was very impressed. He is very knowledgeable and up to date with the latest in eye care health. He took time to explain the anatomy of my eye and things that could present problems in the future (thankfully there was noting to worry about). By far the worst customer service. I understand being on time for appointments but business also need to understand that things happen. I called saying I would be late and they told me as long as I was there by 12:15 it would be fine. I got there at 12:15 to find the dr left already before 12! Won't be going back. Gave them my insurance info over the phone and they did not verify my coverage. So there I am after taking time off from work and getting my daughter out of school, only to be told that my insurance is not covered. The staff then had a whole 5 minute discussion about whether or not another TSO may or may not take my insurance. Then to have the staff nervously laugh it off mostly and give a lame apology for not checking. Dr. Butler no doubt is a great eye Doctor. Very friendly and likes to keep things fun. However, when I went in for my eye exam, i just wanted to know how much contacts normally cost. There was no asking to have a contact lens exam. The lady at first was nice but as time went on, she turned in to a sour mood. Never answered my question about how much they cost. Dr. Butler did a normal eye exam like he was supposed to. everything went well. Talked about my current glasses and what not. Then, after my exam was over, he asked if i had any questions and how everything else was going. I said well, My husband and I were just curious how much contacts normally run. He said he would get a staff member in to the room to talk about that and then had me watch this DVD. The lady who started to be rude came in brought in some contacts and said she'd let me finish the DVD. Well, it ended like not even a minute after she left. I sat there for 5 minutes waiting, I had NO idea what was going on and finally walked out and to let her know it was done. I turned to my husband and said, keep watch on the time. He had to be somewhere in about 30 minutes. I was already there for an hour.... The lady goes, ohhh, i said well how much longer will this take? she goes 30 minutes. I said exactly what am i doing. She said she's going to teach me how to do contacts. I no where asked to be fitted for contacts and never asked for a contact lens exam. I felt very betrayed here and they didn't even listen to me! at check out, she couldn't even find my insurance on file but the other lady knew what insurance i had. It was just all a little too fishy. She apparently wasn't liked by the staff members. She tried to charge me about $92.00 for the contact lens exam when Dr. Butler didn't do that. I've been going to this location since grade school when I got my first pair of glasses from Dr rogers and it was always a very comfortable atmosphere. When I moved back from college last year I found out that Dr butler had taken over and I thought nothing of it based on the reputation of Dr rogers. Unfortunately, the two times I have been with Dr butler I felt the opposite, extremely uncomfortable and as if I was being swindled. I can see virtually nothing without contacts in and Dr butler used the time immediately after the exam when the room is still dark and I can't see a hand in front of my face to sell me a test on his new machine. I complied as his scare tactics relating to my repaired torn retina instilled the intended fear in my blind and dark state. Any sort of reference to the test results would've given me assurance he had the right intentions but I have yet to hear anything relating to the test. The hustle did not end there for Dr butler, a few days after my appointment I was told my prescription was ready and given the generic pitch to go through them for lenses by the nice front desk lady. I expected this and the lady understood immediately I wouldn't be purchasing contact lenses through them and wished me a good day. However when I tried to obtain my script to use on 1-800 contacts I was told I would have to come in for another appointment to confirm prescription, I tried to avoid this but it became clear I would not be getting my already confirmed script released to me without another appointment. I complied again and the majority of the 'appointment' was comparing contact lense pricing. I have debated posting this because I have seen and known some of their same employees since I was a kid but the feeling I got from Dr butler compelled me to let others know of his tactics. The only other eye Dr I've gone to was in a wal mart in college and I would go there every time before I will go back to Dr butler. I'm sure there are plenty of greedy optometrists but I had never met one before Dr butler, so if you are familiar with this location because of Dr rogers please be aware that they do not meet the same standards. read more
