My Dog Pumbah just had her second stay here and so far so good! She is a teacup size dog and is not too dog friendly so we loved that she gets her own little kettle/room and is privately let out 5x a day. We use to stress about leaving town but now that we have this doggie hotel we feel comfortable and happy. Staff is very friendly and helpful. read more

I have taken my dog here for many years. He loves it, and this is the only place in the area that I would trust my dog to be treated well. My only complaint is the complaining from the woman who works at the front desk. Shouldn't you be happy that you're busy in this economy?? I love Preppy Pets and so does my doggy, Mickey Mongo. I use their day care services. I like that the owners greet and say goodbye everytime I drop-off and pick-up my dog. They also give me a rundown of Mickey's day. Preppy Pets has a pet webcam so I can check-in on Mickey to make sure he's behaving. It puts my mind at ease to know that my dog is well taken care, can socialize with other dogs and it doesn't costs an arm and a leg for doggy day care. read more

Not real happy bought a series of doggy day care. Took the time the day before to turn in all papers as I would be on my way to work, The next morning. When I brought her in they didn't seem to be aware she was coming I was then told her distemper vaccine was not up to date, Although I'm happy they caught this, would have been nice to know the nite before. This was my dog Leela and my second time at preppy pet, and we are very happy with the experience. My chow mix looked so good when I came to pick her up. Her coat was evenly cut and shinny. This review is for grooming services as I have never boarded my dogs here. I have two dachshund mixes who need their nails trimmed regularly. I normally go to petsmart but have grown tired of the attitudes of the groomers there. Both of my pups would rather skip their nail trims, especially my girl who is very nervous and shaky, and when it comes to getting her nails done she's extremely squirmy and impatient. I decided to give Preppy Pet a try and called 15 minutes ahead to check for availability. Tamara took care of my dogs and was very patient and sweet with them, something I truly appreciate after being treated like a burden at my normal groomer. She ended up needing some assistance with holding and comforting my girl dog during her service, and another girl named Colleen went back to help. Not once during my visit did anyone complain or make us feel anything less than welcome. I feel that after some regular trips here, my dogs will learn to enjoy their nail appointments thanks to the kind and understanding demeanor of the staff here. It truly makes all the difference. I took my maltipoo to Preppy Pet for grooming. I added on the teeth brushing. He was supposed to be done by noon and I had planned to take him home during my work lunch. I never got a call that he was ready. At 4 I called and they said he was almost done. When I picked him up he was just getting finished and they said they couldn't brush his teeth because "he wasn't having it". I think it's because they ran out of time. I asked for his hair to be short and they give him this poodle looking fro on the top of his head. I was't very impressed with this groomer. read more

My fur babies love it here. I board Bingo and Maggie here all the time and we have been going here for 5 years. The staff is very caring and the owner Chad is very nice. When my fur babies come home they look good and healthy. I do not do the play time simply because my dogs only play with each other and we get a large suite for them. I did do play a few times in the past I would get a kick out of watching them on the cam. The only downfall is when you are on vacation yet you know you can see your babies on the cam you tend to want to be at the laptop all the time. LOL read more

I recently moved to the neighborhood and have been bringing my dog Jax to Preppy Pets for Doggie Day Camp. He makes a beeline for the playroom door when we walk in, so I guess he likes it there. Initially I was very happy with the service rendered, they seem to really care about the pets. I called to check the rates for my dog as this was my first visit after a Groupon and decided to take them in. When it came time to pay, the rate was double what I was told on the phone and the front receptionist was very rude when I brought up the difference from what I was quoted and told. I have been going here for over 4 years and this is the first time I had a problem. First of all, the place is so dirty and smelly, I don't even know if it's safe to go there any more. I have over the past, loved this place and their services. My 2 dogs were always taken care of and always smelled great. This last time was also good, although as I said, the place stunk badly as if it hadn't been cleaned in a year. I had the dished service and bath for my husky and this time was really nice, although the last service before was not really done right and I informed them at that time and was told I would get a credit the next visit. Well the next visit was last week and when it was time to check out, I was charged for the service again. When I got home, I sent an email to them explaining the situation and got a response from the owner who was not very nice and took the offensive and basically called me a liar when I explained the last service was not satisfactory. It was not my fault the person who gave me the credit neglected to enter it in the notes. The owner was very offensive as I said. I really liked this place and had very good service, and I feel I should have been treated better and given the benefit I was promised. Anyway, these are the issues I experienced and that is the reason for this review. I don't know if I will take any of my 6 dogs there again. I am not sure if they are deserving of my patronage. After several times going and having great experiences, I think this review should serve as a note to he owner to remedy the cleanliness problem and fix the customer service issue I mentioned. read more

We have 3 dogs whom we love very much and when you care for your pets as much as we do, it's never easy to leave them in someone else's care. We spent a lot of time researching who will watch them while we are away and hoped we made a good decision entrusting them in someone's care. We had heard lots of good things about Preppy Pet and have used them several times this past year alone. My dogs always seem to have a great time at Preppy Pet in Tempe. They're always so excited to go there and seem so happy when we pick them up. Yet, as happy as they seem, as a loving pet parent you can't help but to worry "what if something happens while I'm away?" So when we received a call that our beloved pup Loki became very ill while boarding and we were so far away, it was scary to say the least! Thank goodness for Tracy and the Staff at Preppy Pet Tempe! They have gotten to know my 3 dogs and their behavior so well that when one of them was not acting like himself, they checked on him and called us immediately concerned. After conferring with us, she took him to the Animal Emergency Hospital, stayed with him while the Hospital ran tests and until we decided to admit him over night. This was all from 8pm on a Sunday evening until well after Midnight! I think she may have stayed all night if we didn't plead with her to go home. I don't know many pet sitters/boarding facilities that would show that much care, compassion and attentiveness to a pet in their care but we feel blessed Tracy was there to take care of him when we could not be and she truly went above and beyond in my opinion. Not only did she give up her Sunday night to stay with him but she stayed in constant contact with us while he was in the hospital and even when we brought him home, making sure he was ok. She also made sure our other 2 dogs were ok while their brother was in the hospital and until we got back to pick them up. Tracy truly cared about his wellbeing and thanks to her quick actions our pup is doing great and we owe her a huge debt of gratitude for her responsiveness and her kindness. As you make that decision on who to trust with your beloved pets in your absence, I hope this example illustrates the love and care Owners Tracy, Chad and their Preppy Pet Team will show your pets. You want an appointment... dont set your schedule based on the one you get with them. They over book was told that they have group appointments by one of the groomers but had a groupon and tried them again took 4 hours to groom a miniature schnauzer. He is 5 and has been groomed for 5 years and it has only taken Preppy Pet 4 hours to groom him...everywhere else is about an hour to hour half max... This time he at least smelled groomed as most of the time he has come back from there he smells like a pack of dogs not a freshly groomed dog... so we come home and take a bath.... just what you pay for right!!! Check all over in the last year there rating is about a 1.2 wish I would have checked and would have not wasted the time as no Groupon worth the customer service here... Colleen even tried to say that most of his appointment have taken 3 hours... that is my point!!!!!!! This is a customer service industry and dogs and owners need to be put first... expectations should be... Ohhh and the groupon was bought for me as a gift which it says on there can be... but they say its only for first time pets and that takes priorities..... read more

We were looking for a day care near our home for 2 of our puppies. We visited the place first and they gave us a tour of the facility. It felt a bit cramped inside but the place was generally clean and the staff seemed friendly and very much dog lovers. The day we brought our puppies in, one of them got a little scared and started barking. At first, they didn't have our reservation so the receptionist had to re-log all of the information while we waited in the lobby. In the meantime, there was so much activities going on at the front area and entrance way, it didn't help calm the dogs. Nobody came to soothe them in a strange place until the owner came out with a choke collar. She was too busy reviewing the vaccination information first before helping to attend to the new dogs. She wasn't rude but you could sense her displease that one of the dog was going to be a handful. After she was satisified with the paperwork, she grabbed one of them to the back abruptly. It felt very sudden, abrupt, and almost unkind. I guess I don't expect others to love my pets as much as I do. But I have taken them to other day cares who showed a lot more compassion and patience. My biggest suggestion is for them to work on the front lobby. It should be a place of smooth transition. They made us wait too long and the ins and outs of people and dogs created a very nervous environment for newer dogs in a strange place. I guess I was also used to taking them to day cares where the staff would crouch down and get to know the pets before putting a choke collar on them, taking them to the back abruptly only to leave them in crates because my dogs were a handful. I won't take them back there again. Maybe there was a reason why my pets reacted so negatively there. read more

This review is lengthy but has valid points in determining pet boarding / pet care. I wish more people would have reviewed this place as it certainly could have prevented the following experience. I have never boarded my pets before so I did a lot of research on places who board in the area. I opted to go with Preppy Pets of Tempe as they give many different options in terms of Play Times and Types as well as being very reasonably priced. My husband and I did a "Smell & Tell" drop in to view their facility prior to boarding my dogs and saw that the place was very clean, and the owners were nice. I was disappointed to see that although their web site states "5 walks per day" when they actually do not Walk them at all. Instead they allow them to go into a gravel filled backyard to eliminate 5 times a day. A few hours after I left I was thinking about the visit and I realized that I hadn't seen any water bowls anywhere. Not in the play areas and not in the kennels. I asked my husband if he recalled seeing water bowls and he said no. Keep in mind, my visit was around 10:30AM-11:00AM so it wasn't like this was the first thing in the morning and they were in the process of refreshing the water dishes. When I questioned them about this a day later they assured me that the dogs had access to water 24 hours a day. I thought maybe I was mistaken when I viewed the facility and there probably were water bowls. I went a head and boarded my dogs and upon my return I noticed that the entire bag of raw hide treats I requested to be given to them daily, was still full and their stuffed animals looked like they were still new. When I questioned it they said that the dogs did not want them. This is odd because in 4 years, I've never known my dogs to turn down a treat (or to play with their toys Gently) but... considering they were in a strange place, its not unlikely that dogs behave differently. On the ride home I noticed that my dogs had chewed on the plastic of their kennel. Had they been given the treats & toys to keep them occupied, its likely they would not have chewed on their kennel but like I said, when in a different environment, they may have behaved differently. Besides that, the woman did mention that my dogs were pulling the stuffing out of their toys which always happens so I assumed she didn't want to clean up the mess and took them away. As far as the raw hide treats, they are controversial as some people fear dogs will choke on them so I could understand if they did not want to face the liability of a choking dog and did not give them out as requested. Though their web site says they "Suggest bringing toys and treats". Still I didn't get too upset about it. When I got home, I poured a bowl of water and both dogs were drinking rapidly like they hadn't had water in quite some time. Dogs do not drink like that when they have just been Sitting in a kennel with access to water freely. In my opinion, based on the previous visit as well, this confirms that they did not have access to water 24 hours a day. I regret not insisting on seeing the kennel my dogs were in While they were in it upon my arrival to pick them up. This way I could have seen for certain that they did not have water. Perhaps some people think not giving water 24 hours a day is not that cruel but to me, it is. How would You like it if you were denied water when you're thirsty? A bowl of water is such an easy task that the only reason I can think of as to why they would limit water is so that they don't have to constantly clean up urine but that is just part of the business. Cleaning urine comes with the price tag. Needless to say, regardless of the unbeatable price, I'll not stand to be lied to and I most certainly will not stand to have my dogs be deprived of Water of all things. Amongst the Non-walks, non-allowance of toys or raw hide treats, watching my dogs drink like they hadn't had water for quite some time is most certainly the deal breaker for any further business with them. As for the Pet Cam the previous reviewer listed as a benefit, I just tried it and none of the 3 web cam are functioning. read more

Just picked my dogs up after 3 hours of daycare, I felt guilty even leaving them that long! Will NOT be returning EVER! It smells awful from the time you walk in & all you hear non stop is dogs barking and crying, it's a very stressful & depressing environment! I asked to go back and see where my dogs would be during daycare & it was so sad!! You walk in and to your right is just kennels looking like the pound, and then to the left is two little areas blocked off like a play pen for big dogs and little dogs. It's literally like a 5x5 space. With dogs in cages next to them barking the whole time. When I walked in to pick them up the employee in the back is just yelling at them repeatedly to "shut up" and hitting the cages. And then to make it worse they tell me their not charging me today because the lady who came in after him "didn't know" my dogs were there for daycare so they were KENNELED THE WHOLE TIME!!!!! Which I specifically asked when I dropped them off how much time they were kenneled for and he said NONE! & my dogs smell like pee! DONT TAKE YOUR POOR BABIES HERE!!!! read more

My husband and I took a tour of this facility on Saturday and we left horrified at the fact that people actually board there pets there. There was a very strong urine smell evident as soon as we entered the lobby, the staff was very unprofessional, and the facility in general was dirty and in poor condition. The "play" area for daycare is a joke and there were no staff supervising a group of 9-10 dogs running in circles in the small enclosure. I've lived in five states in the past few years so have seen many dog boarding and daycare facilities, and this is by far the worst. read more

We had been fortunate in the past to have a neighbor who gladly cared for our dogs whenever we were out of town. He moved far away so now we were back to square one with finding a reliable kennel that wouldn't break the bank. This place is it! In the past we had used Petsmart, but they are so pricey and nickel and dime for every service. This place is reasonably priced, have cameras so you can log on and see your dogs, and the staff is very friendly and caring. We have been taking our dog here for years. I used to love this place, but now that the management has changed, the qualify of care is low, we seem to pay more for each visit, and my dog always has crazy energy when I pick him up, as if he has been neglected. Originally, we were impressed with the care. Our dog became sick while we were on vacation. They boiled chicken for him, took him to the vet, and kept him in their office to care for him. Because of that attention, we came back. That was a long time ago. Each visit seems to get worse. This last boarding was awful. Typically, there is a webcam that is supposed to be turned on so you can watch your dog play. I've never seen my dog on camera when I've gone to look. This time the webcam was out of service. I have no idea if the dogs actually do get all day play, when you pay for it. Second, they close early on Sundays, the day most people come back from vacation. They used to allow people to pick up during the dog's potty breaks, and then changed their policy without extending their hours of operation. If someone is at the location watching the dogs anyway, why aren't they able to provide pickup later in the day. I suspect that they prefer to close early so you can't pick up until the next day and thus required to pay for overnight stay. I picked up my dog at 7am when they opened, thus making me late for work and I paid $25 more for the inconvenience. When I finally got my dog, he was anxious to get out of there and outside. I paid around $109 for a quick weekend trip and my dog is so easy to watch. We are currently looking at other boarding places, which offer 24/7 pickup and a playground outside. Don't settle for less. read more

I tried Preppy Pets for the first time over a weekend trip. We were boarding our new puppy for the very first time, and I tried to do as much preliminary research as I could beforehand. I toured 4 separate kennel facilities in Tempe based on Internet reviews, referrals, and reputation. I made an attempt to interacted with the owners and the staff of each. Preppy Pets caught my eye for many reasons. The owners, John and Tracy, were very pleasant on the phone and in person. They were happy to take me on a full tour of the facility a week before my scheduled departure date. The facility itself had a clean appearance, while on the tour I was not overwhelmed with odors as I had been at other kennels. The dogs seemed happy, energetic, and well cared for, and all of the staff seemed very much into their job. They provided email reservation notifications, and the facility is equipped with web cams in the playrooms so that I could monitor my puppy's play. I picked up our puppy today, she was bouncing, happy, and looked as if she had been well cared for. All of her overnight items were itemized and returned as promised, and the best part of all, you absolutely cannot beat the price. A great deal. I am planning another weekend trip later in the month and I will definitely be using Preppy Pets again. If you live in the South Valley; Chandler, Tempe, Mesa, Ahwatuckee; you will not find a better experience or a better deal. Believe me, I have done the leg work. read more

I have taken my dog there several times during the year for trips. She LOVES this place. I think she's almost sad when we get home that all of her play friends are gone. The owners are extremely nice and helpful. My dog is thirsty when she gets home, but I doubt its because they aren't giving her water... that's absurd. Shes been there for weeks at a time. I think she's just so excited she doesn't think to get a drink. The prices are awesome compared to any other boarding facilities, and I love the fact my pup is only in her cage when shes eating and sleeping. They are also very most vets would barely let her out. I love that place and not worry about that long review, they seem to over analyze every part of the stay.. So your dogs were thirsty after they were playing... thats normal! Same with comment about this location not having lush field in the back... its a shopping center! They have enough property outback for your dog to potty and come back into the airconditioner to play again. read more

I love Preppy Pet and have brought my dogs to them for going on 3 years. One of the girls remembers my dogs every time by name and that makes me feel really good. This was the first time I boarded my two dogs. I researched and read all kinds of reviews for all the different locations. I will never take my boys there again. I was lead to believe that I would be able to pick them up on Saturday afternoon at around 5 pm. The owner called me a liar and said he would never tell anyone that they can pick up after 1pm. I was wrong on who told me. It was the young lady who works there that told me. Well. I had to send my daughter and son to pick the boys up the following day and the young lady outright called my daughter a liar because she was there until 7 pm. On Saturday November 27, 2010 I arrived at preppy pets at 4:42pm. The doors were locked so I called and left a message plus I called again before leaving and got the answering machine again. No one called me back. So not only was I called a liar but I was charged an additional day. Upon seeing my boys the oldest on had lost a lot of weight and went in his bed n fell asleep and stayed that way the rest of the night. After I was out of state my son told me about a few similar nightmare situations that guests from where my son works at had gone through. He works at the Embassy Suites directly across the street from preppy pets. These guests had gone through a similar situation and had to reschedule their flight home because they could not leave without their pet. Warning........I you love your pets take them with you or to another facility..DO NOT USE PREPPY PETS. read more

I purchased a Groupon for grooming services for my two fur babies. I am always a little wary of Groupons and don't generally expect a whole lot, but I was very pleased with my experience at Pretty Pet. When I called, they were very accommodating- scheduling a time the very next week. I love that day care is included, so if you have an afternoon appointment, you can drop your pet off in the AM at the day care, they'll get groomed during their stay, and you can pick them up anytime before they close for the day. Very convenient! They ask for current vaccine records, which in theory means all of the pets they work with should be current on their vaccines. Puts my mind at ease that my pups can't pick up anything during their stay. I interacted with several different associates: over the phone, in the AM at drop off, and in the PM for pick up and everyone was very pleasant, informative and helpful. They are located very conveniently right off of the 60 (at Rural) in a large shopping center with plenty of parking out front. Their main lobby isn't anything glamorous, but it was clean and organized. There was a faint "pet" smell, but come on- that's the business they're in! It certainly didn't stink. If you have pets (and I'm amusing you do if you're here) you should understand. Overall, 5 Stars! We will be back. read more

I had previously had a pet waste service and they didn't do what they had agreed to do. I called Preppy Pet and found out information about the service and filled out the contract. The first pick up was on a Monday and was done as completed. I was happy. Then I realized after 3 weeks there was not a pick up. I took photos and then waited another week - nothing. I emailed PP to ask for a refund. I was told that my card was never charged because it came back expired. I then spoke with Matt on the phone and we made new arrangements. At this point the pickup was set for the following week. Nothing happened on Monday. I emailed to ask if the pickup was going to be the same as last time, on Monday. I received an email from the owner the next day. This email was NOT to answer my question, but to show me how I was a disgruntled customer that they wouldn't ever be able to make happy. This was simply NOT true. If that was the case I would have NEVER agreed to the service after the card had expired. He told me that I should keep better track of my credit card information that they are not responsible for my finances and this was the reason for the cancellation in the first place. I was appalled at the LACK of customer service. and told him I wanted to cancel and please provide me with a refund. He did so promptly. At this point being burned twice I don't think I will trust nor employ one of these services again. read more

After my Mom's surgery turned into her never waking up, I researched dog boarding, so I could fly home to say goodbye. Preppy Pet had Groupon specials, so I called them directly. I asked what the cost would we from Wednesday evening until Tuesday morning, and I was told that I would get the groupon x 2 price, and with extra day, it would be $79. When I took her in, the night Manager tried to give me a higher rate, and I explained the price I'd gotten from the day manager of $79, and I commented on her needing a grooming, haircut, nails, etc, and they told me it'd be $49, so I said it would then be $79 and $49, he said yes, so I told them to go ahead. Before I arrived the morning I was due to pick her up, I received a call, asking me what grooming I wanted for Delilah. I told them that I didn't think they would wait until the time I was due to pick her up, and to forget it because I was now on my way to get her. When I arrived the same person that was there , as when I took her in and he try's to then charge me $190 with no grooming? All I can say is wow! read more

We have always had a good experience when taking our dogs to Preppy Pet. The staff seems to know each dog and gives them lots of love. One of our dogs recently passed away and I received a sympathy card with signatures from all the staff. I felt that was extremely considerate. read more
