Our team was really excited to go to press play for our team dinner but, despite the bar being empty, the door man acted as if he didn't want us there and was rude to our international team members. I know it's the law to require ids to get into the bar and if we would have had a good experience we would have run to get the ids we needed. He was rude enough that we decided to go elsewhere. This bar is great considering the night life in Boulder has been nearly eradicated by Mr. Tebo (the property owner of most of Pearl Street). The bartenders are great and do the best they can when they're busy. On the weekends however, when the floor opens up for dancing, the DJ tends to not know how to tune into the crowd and I often find the heavy techno beat and dubstep music harder to vibe with. I was really excited to find this place the other day, I like the look and atmosphere of the place and the bartenders were cool. But, and this is a big BUT, over half of the games I played the other evening were not working properly. DONKEY KONG Jump button was broken. MS. PAC-MAN Joystick did not work properly ( I believe was an 8 way instead of a 4 way and broken one at that) THE GETAWAY pinball machine ball got stuck several times and top flipper was underpowered and useless. Room for Improvement Press Play is like the knock off brand of 1Up. 1Up (and 2 Up) got it right. Press Play needs work. Ive been there 3 times now and each time there were games that dont work. When we visited on Saturday night, 2 games didnt work (and there arent that many to start with). One of the games just shut down in the middle of our game which blows. When we told the bartender he ddint even offer us quarters. and he was kind of a dick about it. Lame. 1Up has a full time guy to repair the games and keep them calibrated properly. Still ended up getting kicked out even after I emptied my pockets. Plenty of retro arcade games to choose from. Various places to order drinks. Nice dance floor and a pinball area. Staff seem nice enough and wear uniforms (which we don't see often enough). Out of the two dollars I spent on video games .50 was eaten by them, not sure if someone walks around checking on this but I wish they would, several machines are broken. This place is fun on a bun! I went there last weekend with my best gal pal, and we had a fantastic time. There's a little something for everyone at Press Play, games, pool, and dancing (that's what I was there for). The staff was great and a lot fun. The thing I liked most was that there were people there of all ages, and it wasn't filled with just a bunch of college students. Can't wait to go back. One of our favorites in Boulder for dancing, playing games, or just hanging out with friends. Big fan of Press Play. It's a really nice departure from the traditional bars that only present you with the option to stand around and talk. I may have just had a bad experience, but I would not go back. My friends and I came here to go dancing. I asked the DJ's bodyguard? if he took requests (is this not allowed anymore or something?) and he told me I could ask the DJ if I wanted to tell him how to do his job. The DJ wasn't that good so we decided to move on. We were gathering at the bar which is next to the entrance/exit when an employee of the bar approached me and a friend asking if we wanted to take shots that someone had ordered and abandoned. We said sure, then he changed his mind and told us we were too drunk to take them (which we were definitely "toasty" but not hammered by any means). We said that was fine and we didn't need them. Then he said he didn't want to be the "bad guy" and offered them to us again. So my friend and I discussed it for a second because the guy's behavior was weird and we were a little thrown off. The employee then said "forget it" and had the bartender throw the shots out. The whole experience just felt off. Definitely will not return. I think the best bars are still the good ol' bars such as The Pub and Catacombs. Maybe not quite as hip, but the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is always welcoming. read more

Bar staff is extremely nice. Large selection of arcade games. Pool tables. On busy nights you may wait awhile for drinks so order when you can. You may want to double up when you order. This is a college bar so take that into account on days you go. This says nothing on the bar or staff but keep your drinks with you. On to many occasions Iv been with people who have had things slipped into their drinks. Again this is a college bar. Only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because of experiences with clientele and drink wait time. read more

I give it three stars because the place really needs to work on cleanliness. Outside of that its a cool concept with fun old games, skee ball. If I were the owners I'd put a little bit into keeping the paint fresh every few years and try to build a bomb-proof bathroom that doesn't get easily trashed by village drunks. read more

Scummy, smells weird, generally gross. If you're at least a 7/10 on the drunk scale then it's tolerable for a few minutes if you're interested in losing some hearing. Any less drunk than that, or any care in the world for not going deaf by age 40, not recommended. Also, they charge $5 for a PBR. read more

This is in response to Jo C's review. They do not have to let your animal in. You have an emotional support animal, which is not a service animal. Your animal is a pet with privileges in housing and airports. That's the only place they have legal rights. Actual service animals are trained for a specific task and are well behaved. I've met your animal and it's a terrible little dog who needs to be trained. The fact that they refused to let in your PET makes me respect them more, since they are actually following the law. I don't want pets around my food when I am paying for a restaurant experience. read more

Took a group of friends here for one of their bachelors parties. I was the Designated Driver. The manager came over, grabbed me, removed me from my group and told me I was "too drunk" and would be getting 86'd as soon as a bouncer could make their way over. I tried to tell them the situation, and that I was dead sober, but the guy just said he's "been doing this for years and knows what drunk looks like" (why was he even bothering to engage with a "drunk person"?) My group was not loud or rowdy, and we were buying enough drinks and arcade games to justify our stay there. Wound up removing myself before the bouncer could make it over. Wound up waiting for my group to close their tab and we moved on, and true to DD duty, completed the night without having a single drink. The staff running this bar are a bunch of jackasses; if the owner knew what their staff was doing, I hope they would make some changes. Given that ou're not hurting for choice of places to drink in Boulder, go anywhere else. Don't just take my word for it, look at all the other crap reviews related to their staff. read more

I freakin loved this place!!!!! The drinks were great. Though I have no idea how much the drinks are, they were bought for me. There's lot of games to play: giant Jenga, pin ball, ski ball, arcade games and pool tables. I think the games were 50-75 cents. We ended up playing giant jenga for a while. Then the music started pumping and I had a blast on the dance floor!! Nice, super friendly people too. Which is great, since I was on vacation alone. read more

This was my second drink of the night and as soon as my friend handed me the drink I was grabbed around the neck and escorted out. We show up to an empty bar and they were very unwelcoming and rude. They asked for IDs, not a big deal, but our international members did not have passports on them. Again, not usually a big deal, but they were extremely rude about the situation, so instead of quickly running back to the hotel to grab them, we took our business elsewhere. Were in for a few minutes during Halloween. Although there was a child leaving w/ a mother the male bartender walked over asking a young adult w/us for I.D. We thought you could be over 18 but enter just not able to order drinks. The only male staff member who walked out from behind the bar could not have been more rude in asking for I.D.As we made way to leave & say our good-byes The male staff member literally starred at us with a mean glare! Ever heard of being nice? I'm way over 18- & I will never chose to go here when the bartender was so rude & chauvinistic. He didn't approach any males in our group in such a hostile manner. Also, there was a sign at the top of the staircase leading to the entrance below that read "Munchkins Welcome"...well! apparently only small children not a young adult are welcome.
