This is a pretty average dive bar, (though to be honest I haven't been back to this place since COVID hit, but was here pretty regularly pre-COVID) though it's most definitely a college bar, as every Friday/Saturday night it was packed to the brim with college kids! Absolute worst experience I have ever had!!! I asked for a simple drink and the owner was beyond rude. He proceeds to bang his head against his coworker because a vodka soda is hard to make?? The whole experience was absolutely horrible and so I did not leave a tip and he proceeds to shout to everyone how I did not leave a tip and I kindly say "if you would have been kinder I would have absolutely left a tip" and he goes "as if that would have helped." Unfortunately this is the owner of the bar. If you own a business you should always be kind to your customers. My jaw dropped with how bad of an experience I had. One of the coolest bar locations I've ever been to. It's underground in a very cool town. There's Christmas lights, pool tables, classic bathrooms, and seems to always have a crowd of all ages. I didn't get any food but I got a tasty Gosé. It's such a cozy place and I'd love to return someday. read more

The Sundowner is a soft version of a biker dive bar located in the basement of an overpriced open air mall, but it is still one of my favorite bars in Boulder. The Sundowner pulls an eclectic group of people, from your CU Boulder students to veteran Boulder residents. It's a great place to play pool and escape from the cold winter nights! Pro Tip: be sure to go on Wednesday night when the pool tables are free. Also take advantage of the $8 PBR pitchers which are a rare find in Boulder! read more

I don't know where else to write this, i'm scared no one else will believe me so I guess i'm writing this here just because I need to talk about this. Tonight I was visiting a friend in boulder and we were out and our third bar of the night was here. We went to the door in the back ally and I was the 4th in my friend group in line. my first 3 friends were males and they all got in easily. keep in mind we are all 23 so IDing is normal but at this point there is very little resistant as we all look of age. After my 3 friends got in it was my turn and as I show my ID to the bouncer the first thing he said to me was "I like your outfit" which as a female I thought was really weird but I guess at this point I am used to it. After a few seconds he told me to step to the side as he "needed to further investigate me" Then he started asking me questions, but not questions about proving my Id was real but questions about me. like why I was in boulder, what I like to do in my free time, if I had a boyfriend, he even asked me if I work out. At this point I was super uncomfortable and asked why he pulled me aside and if I could please get in and be with my friends. Then this man has the audacity to say "I will let you in for a kiss" I was baffled, I didn't even know what to say so I laughed. but he wasn't kidding and told me no kiss, no drinks and took a step toward me so he was like right in my face" scared I told him that I was uncomfortable and wanted to leave but he kept pressing and told me that kiss gets you your ID back and you can leave. I just left, I felt like crying. I didn't know what to say. this was my first weekend in Boulder and I never want to come back. I don't want to make a big deal out of it, he was wearing a black Patagonia jacket and had a mustache. This one poor girl was sitting outside crying about her own drama and they talked to her like she was a criminal or something. So we decided to try this dive bar for our weekly Friday night beer. First of all, be careful walking downstairs on icy evenings! Once in, the bartender was super friendly and had some suggestions for this wine drinker. We decided on Tequila Sunrises and he poured them perfectly. The music was a tad loud but what does one expect in a dive bar? There were pool tables, shuffleboard, darts, etc. ... FREE. Cheap pitchers of beer, and free pool till 10pm, what's not to like! I definitely enjoyed not having to pay for every game of pool I played over the 3 hours I was there. Bartender said the only rule was you had to accept a persons challenge for the table. Yikes! It was fine though everyone who wanted to play got to play and we would end up playing teams so everyone could keep playing. I had a great time here playing and meeting new people. The floors however have some license plate glued or nailed to it, some of which at bent upwards. I tripped over these several times and almost fell a couple times.
