I went to Prestige Dentistry for one simple reason: they were supposedly in network with Aetna. When I arrived, I confirmed it again and was told, "Yes, we're in network with Aetna." The difference is significant. In network coverage is 100 percent versus 50 percent out of network. I checked Google reviews and saw glowing feedback. I should have looked at Yelp to read more detailed reviews. As it turns out, only one dentist in the office was in network, not the one who actually worked on me. That led to a long back and forth with the insurance company and no reimbursement. They require you to pay upfront and then supposedly refund you after insurance pays them. I have never experienced that before. With all my medical doctors, I simply pay a copay and the practice collects directly from the insurance company. In my opinion, Prestige Dentistry operates with high pressure, predatory sales tactics and questionable billing practices. The office looks slick and modern, but the experience felt more like a timeshare hustle than a healthcare practice. They have you sign more forms than at a house closing and even try to sell you an extended warranty on their work. I initially went in for a cleaning, and my periodontist had already sent X rays taken a month earlier. That was not enough. They insisted on doing a 360 degree X ray. That imaging was then used to pitch nearly $9,000 worth of dental work. It took months to resolve the in network issue with Aetna. Now, months later, I am receiving a billing statement for $298 with no explanation or detailed breakdown for work that was supposedly completed and paid for months ago. I sent a letter to the office and to David C. Pielak, President of Golden Dental Associates, P.A., which is their legal name. I never received a response, and the statements continue to arrive. The only positive thing I can say is that the staff was nice and friendly. Thankfully, I am back with my longtime family dentist. Just don't go. I really liked the staff and my dentist. After a failed root canal for myself and two with my wife it's just not chance. After leaving them more and more stories about the unnecessary procedures, upcharges, shady billing practices. Always a long wait, like and hour every time, no exaggeration. Hearing that they have been investigated/audited by insurance companies. The pain, aggravation, and cost in retrospect makes us regret being long time patients. STOP OVERBOOKING! Everytime I've come in now I have to wait 30-40 mins just to get in and it's frustrating on my time. I understand that dental is time consuming but make sure you have time for every one. The amount I've waited to just get in is beyond belief and I'm very done with being put aside once again Secondly the pricing is quite high for what it is and I am unsure if I'll continue to come here after treatment. The ladies at the front are hit or miss with if they are nice or not :/ the doctor is nice but as of recent I just feel like I'm just a number here and not a patient which really hurts as when I first came I was cared for properly.When he rushes he tends to knick and poke my gums and it's quite frustrating now as I can't leave without my mouth bleeding from not my doing... Now I've got quite some work done here and I hope the assistants are aware that they are pinching and hurting their patients as they are sometimes quite careless on how they use their mirrors to move aside your cheek for work. I hope they become aware of this in the future. Finally I hope they treat each other nicer here . There was a new assistant and the one girl was belittling everything he did. Now being new to a place is quite daunting itself so instead of talking down to the new employees is to treat them with kindness and help guide them as it looks extremely unprofessional on their part. I have been a patient of Dr. Pielak and his outstanding Dental Assistants for nearly 23 years. My recent visit was on Oct 2, 2025. It was for routine prophylaxis and bitewing X-rays. My service was performed efficiently with an ultrasonic scaling device called a Cavitron, which helps remove plaque below the gum line. Since I use a CPAP machine, I have some plaque buildup on the bottom front teeth. My dental hygienist leaves my teeth sparkling clean and informs me how well I am maintaining my home care. All of the staff have a pleasant and friendly demeanor. I have had a few gold onlays, composite fillings, and a crown put in by Dr. Pielak. His work is extraordinary-- he is a perfectionist in making sure the fit of any work he does not negatively affect my bite. My oral health is in excellent hands at Prestige Dentistry. They provide high-quality service, and I have seen them fight with insurance companies to get me the best care. The office staff treats me with respect, courtesy, and care. Hooray for shady providers!! Summary: A wonderful story about Prestige Dentistry practicing high pressure predatory sales, super shady billing and little to no recourse or customer service after they've taken payment. I want to start by saying that we naively signed forms to shield the dentist from shady billing. It authorized additional billing on top of insurance approved procedures, so our recourse to be refunded may get tricky and most likely we'll be laying in this bitter bed. Boy were they excited to bring that up when we confronted them :/ Here's the skinny. A family member went in for a cleaning and exam at Prestige Dentistry. There was concern before the visit because of teeth grinding and damage because of the grinding. The family member has very healthy teeth and has had very little work done over the years. Our initial red flag was a "deep cleaning" due to bone loss from the customary CT scan (didn't know that was a thing these days). Of course that is up and above insurance. The second portion of the visit was a sales presentation to sign up for $9k worth of restoration and preventative equipment for grinding. It was worse than being pitched an extended car warranty. The procedures and equipment were scheduled and equipment ordered. I thought it was also strange to take a deposit for equipment and for scheduling the procedure. The equipment seems ok besides needing some adjustment, so no issues there (for now, lol). Upon arrival of the procedure, my family member was presented with a bunch of documents, one specifically stating that there would be overbilling in the amount of $5k up and above what insurance would cover. This was a required form and noted technical procedure codes that would be billed for and not included with insurance. A signature was required to continue. Service would have been denied without a signature. Last huge red flag and it should have stopped there. We're not experts in billing or dentistry, but we do understand that typically providers can't bill over negotiated rates. The procedure was a success and we were billed most of the fees up front thinking that prior authorization was run through insurance on all charges. Turns out everything listed on that sheet that said they could overbill were not submitted and there was no intent because they knew it wouldn't be covered. Of course our insurance was like "yeah, we've never seen anything like this". The overbilling came to just shy of $2k. Of course this company's response was "well you signed it, so no we're not going to do anything." So they balance billed (not surprised on that) and billed for procedures not recognized by insurance companies. cool. I would have rather burned the cash in my firepit. At least it would be a good story to joke about for years to come. On a side note, I went in for a cleaning and exam after the bigger story with the family member to see for myself. Of course they wanted to deep clean and handed me a bill for $3k after insurance coverage for work that needed immediate attention. They spent 45 min in a sales pitch and reminded me 3 times of how much I needed a deep clean. If they were a professional outfit and I was required to do a deep clean, wouldn't you think they would have refused a normal cleaning? Just saying... read more

To pay more than top dollar, more than going prices and all with Polite cheery smiles. My experience has been nothing but frustrating and when I declined to carry on with the procedures recommended; implant, root canals etc, there was no refund for the exorbitant monies I had already paid. They bill the insurance company for what they think they can get away with......this is a joke. And when I questioned the practise the answer was nothing but garble goop! I have to agree with what was said in the majority of the other reviews for this place. It is almost impossible to keep the same appointment time that you originally booked. They must have called me at least 6 or 7 times ( Always at the last minute) that I needed to change my appointment time or date because they were overbooked. Sometimes they wouldn't even tell me they changed the time! On more than 1 occasion I would receive a confirmation text or email with a different appointment time than I had scheduled. They didn't even ask if I was ok to change it! I don't think I've ever experienced up selling at a Dentist to this degree . I had recently bought a car and felt more pressured at the Dentist! Saying no was definitely difficult . I will definitely try to find a dentist with a more personal touch where I feel like I'm more than a number. read more

These guys are four times more costly than anyone else in the area. It's all about high pressure sales. So they started some dental work for me and after getting a second opinion on pricing I decided not to go back for the work to be completed. When I told them I wasn't returning they insisted I owed them for work that had not been completed. so they sent my bill to collections for over $2,000 worth of services not provided. Never found out the Dentist name nor his assistant however, after the dentist explaining to me the cost of putting in two post for almost $5,000 + 450 for insurance if the post breaks!!!! What!!!! I'm very unhappy with the crowns I had done by Dr. David Pielak. I was charged more than the going rate in the Palm Harbor area for 4 crowns on the left side of my mouth, and they caused quite a bit of pain. I was never able to chew on that side. My bite never completely met after the work was done. I went back into the office several times, hoping he could do something to improve the "fit" of the crowns, but he never managed to make the pain go away. My bite was never what it should have been. I returned to the dentist I went to before that, and he ground down the bad crowns to make them better--but they still weren't as good as they should have been. At least I was able to chew without immense pain. I went back and told Dr. Pielak that I lost confidence in him. He literally turned around and walked away. I was disappointed that I overpaid and never got the decent dental work that I expected. After less than 3 years later, one of the crowns popped out. These crowns were made in the office, and I have since learned that dentists should stick with what they know best and leave crown design up to people who actually know what they're doing. read more

I have finally found the best dentist in Dr. Pielak that I have ever had...the staff are very considerate and personable and their skills top notch. The various treatment plan options were very well explained and I was given space to decide on what to do. There was no sales pressure at all. In fact, the advice matched what I had already been given elsewhere- but I was now given a wider choice of solutions. They not only have excellent technology, they use it well. Dr Pielak obviously desires to give his patients the best treatment. In fact, I find it difficult to understand how anyone could be so critical. I had an appointment scheduled after Hurricane Irma and the practice manager kept in personal contact with me to work-out the best way forward post-hurricane. Completely money motivated. Went in for a routine cleaning & they tried to pressure me into a "Hollywood smile" complete with braces & pull this so they could implant this, change this. After which the bill was over $15,000. They didn't listen to a single thing I said. After sitting there for 3 hours I left still not having had the routine checkup, only feeling very frustrated & having had an x-ray. They do have a state of the art facility but I now see how they can afford it. They kept telling me don't think about the money, just go for it. I could sit here and write forever about the lousy treatment I received but I see that most of the reviews feel just the same as I do. They will promise anything to get you in there, and start out working on you for ever BUT only to make sure that they GOT YOU HOOKED, you now owe them an arm and a leg so that you can get the work they started completed. They took six months to give me garbage that I now have to live with. $10K worth of partial work which lost a tooth one month after I finally got it. Broken connector which can not be fixed unless the crowns are removed. I had two bouts of them removing my temporary crowns, chiseled for an hour on newly ground down teeth, OMG. Jack hammer on the second time but finally gave me meds so I did not faint during the ordeal. I saw the so called Dr. Horowitz maybe 3 times the whole six months I went there. He likes his vacations. My son had to call because they decided it would take 8 months to get my partial finished. After that though they called and said they were done. When I finally was fitted for the permanent work I said they did not feel right. Dr. H never bothered to come in to take a look he just sent a message through the intern that they would get better. I just gave up. two days later they started breaking apart, three years have gone by and I have been cut many times by the metal on this partial while cleaning them. I have to use Fixodent to hold them in which was the whole purpose of getting a PRECISION PARTIAL. (they are held in by two snaps which are embedded in the crowns and partial. And I am constantly cutting the end of my tongue due to the silver POINTED bars which are behind my front teeth for some reason or another. I am telling you also that they get away with murder, I had two lawyers writing them for compensation in order to get my work fixed some where else. (Would you go back to someone who did not do what they promised in the first place.) They just ignored them. It will always be your word against theirs and they win. So please BEWARE. And by the way, even though I gave them $1000. good faith money they forced me to go to my bank first thing the next day, call them and transfer the almost $9,000. to them. And there were threats involved. I don't see how these men can live with themselves. If there is any doubt that anything I have said is not true, I have pictures, I have letters, I have people who will vouch for everything I have said. read more

i was very disappointed, after seeing the tv ads I expected much more. The office is very state of the art. But for all he high tech gadgetry Dr. Horowitz decided in the middle of a root canal he didn't have the right size drill and I had to go to another dentist the next day to get that finished! How unprofessional is that? He did receive two phone calls while I was in the chair about temporary crowns coming loose and was quite snippy about it to patients via his receptionist. Unfortunately the exact same thing happened to me with my temporary crown. Yes he manufactures a crown in his office but if all my crowns it is the most ill fitting. Furthermore he bragged to his assistant every time I was in the chair about his flying lessons, his movie he was making ( he fancies himself Tom cruise) about riding motorcycles, and on and on ad Nauseum about his acquisitions. Not what a patient wants to hear while in the chair. Later to our disgust we found he billed my husband for work not done, he is high pressure sales on extraneous work not needed and he over charges. Have a second opinion before accepting the dental care plan from Dr.Pielak. I went for evaluation for an imp!ant,p!us i needed a tooth pulled. The tooth was pulled. Dr. Pielak insisted I needed two implants,to which I thought was appropriate. Before leaving i was ask to pay 2600.00 which I did. Upon moving away from area i called the office to exp!ain the move and requested a refund. I was told that NO refund . I went to a new dentist after I moved and was told two implants would not fit in jaw area. I went to a oral surgeon who to!d me the same. I had implant and satisfied. I was told to report Dr.Pielak to the B.B.B. and the Dental Association for fraud. Reason. Inaccurate plan for dental work and charges for services NOT provided Dr.Pielak charges are a!so much higher than a oral surgeon and any other dentist. Oral surgeon is the professional that should also be completing an implant not a dentist. read more

WORST PLACE EVER. DON'T GO THERE. They don't care about you, they just care about your MONEY. When you call them they tell you your insurance is in network and that everything will be covered. When you get there they tell you the exact same thing and then you get a bill from them in the mail. They are over priced, they don't even contact insurance to see the exact amount insurance will cover, they just want you to sign a paper and agree to the the treatment and they tell you you can have a monthly plan. Regretful experience with Pielak. High pressure sales were a fail. I went in for a cleaning (no previous problems) and was convinced to have fillings replaced. Unfortunately, I did the procedure and have had problems ever since. He way overcharged. I had a second opinion from a respectable Dentist who would not have recommended nor would have charged even half the amount. My first visit and unfortunately the WORST experience ever... It began with my scheduling an exam and cleaning appointment 2 weeks ago....then within the 48 hours of my appointment receiving 6 calls from multiple people in the office changing the time of the appointment (and they still didn't have me down for the right time). I went to the appointment today expecting a general annual exam and 6 month cleaning with my new Florida dentist....Technicians were rude when questioned about unnecessary digital photos (?) and had no logical reasoning behind them other than it "had to be done". I declined. Never had the cleaning because too much time was spent preselling dental "work" even before my teeth and xrays were reviewed. Lots of upselling going on there. I left in the middle of it after more xrays were ordered. I should have been clued in when they suggested, or rather "sold" me into having my 10 year old's teeth sealed on his first appointment. Needless to say, I've cancelled his appointment and am now looking for a new dentist, not a salesman. read more

I really do not like dentists and had recently had a horrible experience at another dentists office. I really liked Prestige's website (pain free available) and had called and made an appointment. However, one of my teeth decided to break before that fateful day arrived. Prestige was kind enough to get me in that day. Everyone went out of their way to make me feel relaxed (or as relaxed as possible). Samantha was incredibly kind. The dentist went out of his way to put me at ease and explained options to me. Today was my second appointment (several more coming up). Once again everyone was nice and the examination and components were explained to me in detail. I was given future treatment options, approximate costs and even given time to make my decision (which I am still thinking about). I liked the prioritizing of treatments so that I would not have to do everything at once. I would recommend this office and their wonderful staff. read more

I neglected going to the dentist for several years thinking nothing hurt and all of my teeth and gums were in good shape. I brushed and flossed regularly and believed I could keep them going forever, until I broke a tooth. I was sure it would just be a one time visit. However, I was wrong. They were able to show me, with actual color photos, the true condition of my teeth. I couldn't believe those were my teeth. Needless to say all of my fillings have been replaced and all the decay cleaned out from underneath. They also showed me a bad crown job that was done by a dentist up north many years ago that had caused my tooth to break. I had a lot of needed dental work done. I also had my teeth straightened and whitened. Today my teeth look better than they ever have and I have learned a lesson. I have to take care of my teeth, if I want them to take care of me the rest of my life. That comes at a price. My experience with Prestige dentistry has been great. I have had to wait at times, but being in the patient care industry, there will always be those unpredictable patient related issues that keep the day challenging. My experience at Prestige dentistry has been better than several others in my past and the added technologies they utilize gives me the security that I am not being sold something I don't really need.
