Despite all the negative reviews and warnings, I decided to give this place a try due to the convenience of the location and hours. Big mistake. I brought in three dress shirts for a basic wash and press, and one of them returned with a button broken in half. I brought the shirt back and was told by the store owner he could fix it "for a fee". When I argued that this was his fault, he completely caught me off guard when he said he believed me. He then pointed to a sign behind the counter that stated damaged buttons were not the responsibility of the cleaners. Just because you print something on a piece of paper and post it on the wall doesn't make it true buddy. With so many other options literally around the corner, why risk your clothes here with a careless owner? read more

Started off great with Prestige- used them initially based on Yelp reviews and their low prices. Over the past few months, however, they've progressively become worse. Dry cleaning comes back oftentimes with loose buttons. "Free delivery" means you'll wait literally upwards of three and a half hours for your clothes to arrive consistently week after week. To top it off, I quadruple checked all of my clothing and am now sure that I've lost a nice dress shirt and two pairs of pants. Upon calling to inquire about the case of the missing work clothes I not only found out that my clothes had essentially no hope of being retrieved whatsoever, but the cheap dry cleaning service is so cheap because they're only pressed (evidently this is standard practice). Thus, some of my nicest shirts which I asked specifically to be dry cleaned were actually running the risk of getting ruined every week. Responding to previous posts, I've never gotten "dry cleaning" back the same day. Furthermore, they close strictly at 7pm despite the fact that I often get my "quick delivery" after 8:30 at night. Summary: don't send anything that you care about for laundry or dry-cleaning here. In particular if it's expensive. They'll ruin it and just say "sue me". We had been doing business with Prestige for about 6 months, a mix of laundry and dry-cleaning. We never had many issues with their laundry (except for the frequent sock missing its pair and the 2h wait for pickup/delivery), but things took a strong turn for the worse when we sent them a couple of ski jackets for washing. One of the jackets was used and the other one was brand new. They both had clear instructions on their labels for machine washing and tumble dry. We sent them alongside our usual laundry without any special instructions for dry cleaning (since they shouldn't be dry cleaned!). When we got them back, they charged us $15/each for dry cleaning! They didn't even bother reading the washing instructions on the labels. The used one came back okay but the new one came back smelling like a wet dog - a really strong, foul smell. We went back and forth for *2 weeks* (!) about this jacket, with various excuses through the process: "it's the material of these new ski jackets", "it needs to be air dried instead of tumble dry" and eventually ending up at "we don't smell anything bad". We tried to argue with them that this was a brand new jacket that was now unusable, but they said there wasn't much more they could do. At the end of the 2nd week, we had a long argument at the store, and the guy (owner?) eventually said "either you let us keep dry cleaning / washing it or you just sue us". It had been two weeks and we had no intention of leaving the jacket there with them. At no point there was an apology. At no point there was an offer to pay for the ruined jacket - not even for a fraction of it. Even worse and more offensive, at the end he started acting like the jacket wasn't smelling bad at all (something he had admitted to previously), like we were making the smell up. All in all this was a terrible experience. We will not return, we do not recommend. There are plenty of better laundry options in the neighborhood, there's no need to use someone that will screw up your brand new jacket and just say "sue me". read more

I've been living in the area for almost 5 years now, and have been using Prestige for 4 out of the 5 years. As other Yelp-ers have said, the owner is super great, courteous, and is always accommodating my husband and I in terms of timing and whatever specific needs we have. We sometimes bring 3-4 full blue Ikea bags (yes, you know the kind!) of clothes, towels or whatever in the morning and unless it's a holiday or there are special hours, it's usually ready the same day. Our regular laundry comes back clean and well-folded, and we've never had any problem with their dry-cleaning services. I have, once or twice, found an item of clothing in a bag that didn't belong to us, and I marched it back over. To my mind, though, that's to be expected when you've got thousands of pounds of laundry circulating in a place that size. All in all, when compared with doing the laundry myself, which used to take me upwards of 3+hours, their prices are a totally reasonable trade off for my time, and the level of service is terrific. Went here for 5yrs and had great experiences...the owner (Sung) is one of the nicest guys you'll meet and I always go out of my way to go in and say hello to him when visiting my old hood. Prices are reasonable for the area...hours are good...use high quality detergents (Tide and Bounce).. Had an issue a couple times where some pants were supposed to be washed (instead of dry cleaned) and he reversed charges on my account...never lost anything...same day service for dry cleaning...after going to a few others around NYC I have become much more thankful for what seems like a standard service.. I have use them for dry cleaning for almost 12 years and have never run into any problems. Suits, black tie gowns, cashmere sweaters, overcoats, they've always done a good job. Sure, they had lost a belt or buckle from a jacket or coat occasionally but those were always found quickly for me. Have never used them for drop off laundry so don't know how well they handle that. My own experience having dealt with other cleaners is when most customers complain that a stain or some other spot isn't completely removed after an item is dry cleaned, its usually the customer's own damn fault. If you spill a glass of red wine on a snow white silk blouse, what did you expect to happen? These guys try their best but they aren't miracle workers. read more

I have been going there for three years and once I received clothes from someone else. I returned them and thought it was a once in a blue moon mistake. However, things turned bad when they lost about eight of my towels, a brand new pair of jeans and an entire bed spread set with pillow and sheets included. This dry cleaners bleached my duvet, proceeded to tell me it was just faded since it was such a light color and refused to replace my item. Not to mention it was also covered in weird brown coffee stains as well. I have brought this duvet to other dry cleaners in the past and not once has some thing like this happened nor have I been told it was faded when it was clearly bleached on accident. At the very least they should have compensated me to buy a new one but but no only gave me $50 for a $300 duvet cover. Horrible service read more

NEVER USE THEIR SERVICE!!! The owner REFUSES to give me back my leather skirt! I just moved to the neighborhood and used this laundry mat since it was the closest to me. Tried out the wash and fold twice and no complaints. Sent out 9 items of dry cleaning and only got back 8. Owner did not believe me when I told him my skirt was missing. 5 days later I get a call saying he found it. You would think he give it back my skirt right?! NO!!!!! Not only has he been rude but he demanded he come to my apt and search my closet for this other skirt he is missing for a different customer. Which btw I had to communicate with this other customer who also lost her skirt with the same laundry service. Now he has two expensive leather black skirts missing. And why the hell would I let a strange man who is accusing and yelling at me into my apt alone?! read more

The service is great and the laundry comes back clean and smells great . In the years that I have been using them I have never had a complaint . Echoing some of the comments below, this place was OK until it wasn't. I have used them for dry cleaning several times and they were fine. It was not until I used them for laundry that I ran into a real problem. First, the laundry service is totally unresponsive if you call anytime after 7:30PM (even though they are open until 8:30/9:00 PM). Second, they lost 3 expensive items of clothing. When I confronted the owner, he told me "he wanted to go home," and tried to usher me out of the store. It took about 5 minutes of back-and-forth before he apologized, but said there was nothing he could do. It seems like the owner believes that lost laundry is par for the course in NYC, and does not think there is anything wrong with a few lost items here and there. I don't think I will be using Prestige's services ever again. read more

Used these guys while I was living nearby for the summer. Quick, easy, friendly. I loved how my clothes came back tightly packed and neatly folded - I didn't ever have to iron. Each load I did was between $8-$12. Definitely recommend. They really should have a higher rating on here. read more

Like most cleaners, they were ok until they weren't. I've been using them for a few months. Items never had a fresh feel to them, but I thought maybe that was just Manhattan. Occasionally a button came back broken or cracked. I never fought them on it, until recently when a shirt came back missing both cuff buttons on both cuffs. I brought it back to them, and the man rudely pointed to a sign that said they weren't responsible. He said he'd do me a favor and charge less than he usually does. Essentially, you have one job, to get my drycleaning back to to me clean and undamaged. And you REPEATEDLY FAIL, and then charge me for it. Also the older asian man who "helped" me was incredibly rude and dismissive, even as I attempted to reason with him. They also have a $12 cc minimum which is just frustrating. The place across the street just north of Ace is excellent, albeit a bit more expensive, and there is another place two blocks down on 1st Ave. Go there instead. You'll avoid the frustration. read more

This place is great- and I just want to point out that I think places like this get low ratings on here because most people don't tend to review them unless they have a really bad experience. From 3 years of personal experience though, I have never had a problem getting anything dry cleaned or washed and pressed here. Everything has come back clean and well pressed. Wash and press is $1.50 per shirt, which I think is really reasonable. The first time I came here with my boyfriend's shirts and asked to have them dry cleaned (what do I know about men's shirts?), the owner explained that wash and press was probably what I meant and that it is also cheaper. He didn't have to save me a few bucks, but he did. The hours here are also really good compared to others in the area- open every day of the week, til 9pm on Weekdays, 8:30 pm on Friday, and I think maybe late afternoon-ish on Weekends. You can almost always get your clothes by the end of the day if you drop it off that morning. Everyone I have encountered behind the counter has been downright pleasant. I also really like that their computer system keeps track of everything so there is no need to keep around ticket stubs. The card minimum is $12, but if the cost is under, they will just keep the difference on your tab til next time. I almost never want to move because of this place. read more

I have taken black tie gowns to be dry cleaned, casual attire, and also special requests for cold water only or delicate clothing, all of which have been met with a smile and returned beautifully. My 1st review ever on YELP..... AVOID AVOID AVOID Looking at my 2 year experience, I can say 99% of the reviews are true. I am such a flexible person. I let go when they lose my socks, tshirts but in the last 2 months it has been a nightmare. They lost 2 of my favorite shirts, 1 of my girlfriends shirts, like literally 10 socks and so on. On top of that they destroyed one of my sweaters completely despite telling them to handle with care and not even put it in the dryer. I gave them ample room and confidence, but it is over. The laundry I've been using for 15 years was sold and the new owners don't seem to have things in hand yet, so I thought I'd give Prestige a try. I pass it daily so I stopped in to find out about their services/pricing. I was told "same day no problem" and that it was 80 cents'/lb for wash and fold....and showed me the pricing that was right in the window. They picked up my laundry early yesterday, promising a same day return - but never returned it...I started calling around 4 p.m. since I knew they closed at 6, but all I got time after time was the answering machine and no return calls... I started calling again this morning and they finally called me back early afternoon to say that "it wasn't ready yesterday" and they would deliver it this afternoon. What shock! The same loads I sent every week to my previous laundry which ranged from $18-$22 (including my comforter) was $48.80! .. The ticket said 20 lbs but the price on that ticket was more than $20 and was stamped "Special Handling" for the excess. I had asked for no special handling... and after a few calls back and forth, they said they had a minimum charge before the poundage kicked in... $8 for 7 lbs. Even so, with their new math, they agreed they overcharged me since there were no "special handling" requests with the order and reduced that ticket by $2.50 However, they had divided it into 2 orders - with 2 separate tickets (so I guess they could charge you 2 minimum charges before the poundage kicks in) AND charged me an additional $28 to wash a standard queen size fiberfill summer weight comforter which they classified as "X-Large" to justify charging $28. I was routinely charged a "item" charge of $6 at the previous laundry (within their overall pricing) for this same comforter. I really was upset at being charged $28 to wash a $32 comforter. But they tell me the owner isn't there so there is nothing they can do.. To add insult to injury, when I opened the returned bags, my top sheet was no where to be found.... this is part of an expensive set of linens from Luxe and all he could say was "I will try and find it for you!" in the most casual way - I am sure they will not even look Go elsewhere! read more

I've been going here for two years and have generally had a positive experience. They're not the best dry cleaners in the city, but their prices are competitive. My opinion of this placed changed drastically today. They misplaced a pair of pants that I recently dropped off and refuse to admit their mistake. In fact, they refuse to even admit that it would be possible for them to misplace an article of clothing. After two visits and much back and forth the owner has finally agreed to look for the pants. I hope the pants turn up (especially b/c they're a part of a suit that I own) and we can put this behind us; I don't have my hopes up though. If they come back empty handed I will be forced to contact the Better Business Bureau and purse a resolution in NY State Small Claims Court. Bottom line: this place offers decent value for routine dry cleaning, but they offer very sub-par customer service should you have a problem. I will increase my rating to 2 stars if they eventually find my pants, but I'm still not sure they can be trusted with expensive articles of clothing. read more

No complaints with Prestige. Find it to generally be less expensive than other dry cleaners in the area and they are almost always faster, same day is never a problem. I take clothes on Friday afternoon and pick-up on Saturday, in time for the new work week. I am so sad that I am moving to Brooklyn and will no longer be close enough to use Prestige II. I have been going to Prestige ever since I moved to East Village 10 months ago and have been consistently pleased with their service. The owner (Asian guy) is super sweet and friendly. He goes the extra mile to restore clothing and leather goods. He's even rescued some cashmere sweaters that I carelessly threw in my hamper from being eaten up by the washing machines. The white guy who sometimes mans the register is also a sweetheart. I've never had any real problems with them. Sometimes other people's socks end up in my wash and fold, but they're just socks--no big deal to me. Never have I paid more than $12 for 2 weeks worth of clothes to be washed and folded. They are fast, too. You can drop your load off in the morning, and it can be ready as early as 6pm the same day. In summary, you will experience prompt service with a smile for a very reasonable price. I am going to miss the Prestige II crew. Love you guys! They lost two of my shirts worth $100, didn't take responsibility, couldn't care less that i had been their costumer for 2 years , didn't even offer the smallest compensation. The owner is super rude, when i told him of the lost shirts he kept doing everything but engage with my problem and said it has never happened before and that it's impossible he lost my shirts. I will NEVER USE THEIR SERVICES AGAIN! My first issue with this business is I called as soon as they opened to have my laundry picked up for same day delivery. To be told no one will be able to pick up until 10am. And I said that's fine, but I want same day delivery. I come home after 6pm and my laundry is still not delivered. I called and spoke to the owner, who said it wasn't labeled for same day. I was livid and he said he would have it for me the next day. I received my laundry the next day and saw on my receipt tag that he still charged me for same day delivery services. I called and he refunded my money. And charged me the correct amount. I sent my laundry to be done again. My aunt sent her laundry to be picked up two days after me. We have SEPARATE ACCOUNTS. When they came to pick up her laundry they returned mine. Now....I did not call for my clothes to be delivered (this is Thursday). So the owner sends his delivery guy back to collect payment. I told him nicely that I didn't have it. That I would have it tomorrow for them. The delivery guy had an attitude. I told him it's not my fault. I didn't call to have it delivered. So he leaves with his attitude. I call the owner today (Friday night) to pay. The owner tells me he sent his delivery guy back and got payment from my aunt. I was upset! I told him my grievances the last few times I've been using their services and now this. I explained AGAIN how they made this mistake of delivering my bags without me calling for them. I wouldn't call to have my finished laundry delivered if I wasn't able to pay for it. Now they're hustling to get their payment for THEIR MISTAKE and got payment from the WRONG person. They got it from my aunt. And all the owner could say to me was "I don't know what happened. But I have to go. The business closes at 8:30pm and it is now 9pm." UNBELIEVABLE!!
