I started bringing my Bernadoodle here when he was a puppy.... The service at that time was very good and thorough. I have brought him back several times as he always was groomed well. You can see i did a review last year...The girl that did it was doing an awesome job. The groomer I liked left. I took my dog yesterday. He wasn't groomed in 8 weeks due to the dog flu and being neutered.He was bathed dried and btushed/combed in between. THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST CUT I HAVE EVER SEEN. The groomer claimed he was matted. She admitted not his body and stated the back of his head and by his ears. I take the time to comb my dog with the dematting comb that looks like a rake. I am certain my dog did not have very much matting. The girl that cut my dogs hair claimed he was matted. She showed me a small pile of mat. She took all of my dogs hair off...my dog still has a dog smell...charged me 120.00 and told me it was extra to do my dogs nails. I will post a picture of the flat back of my dogs head...excluding where his skull rounds out. I did let her know my dog looked awful and did inquire about the price. Needless to say...you got me once but my dog won't be back!!! read more

I love this place! I like how they let my dog Rusty, interact with other dogs. They also call me about things they find. For example I just took Rusty there today for a bath and cut. Well the girl that was taking care of Rusty called me, telling me she was washing him and when she was done noticed a hole behind his ear. I told her she can keep grooming him. I have been talking Jax to pretty paws for the last two years about twice a year and had good experiences. He went this Friday and on Monday I pet his ear and he screamed. He now has an ear infection that he didn't have before going there. I called pretty paws to let them know and they told me they had no idea how it could have happened and asked me if I was going to take him to the vet! Let me tell you about my experience of Pretty Paws by Danielle in Oak Forest, IL. This was our second time making an appointment with them. The 1st was great! So we decided to continue going with them. Now, I made the appointment for my dog dino today, January 15th @10AM. When we dropped him off, I explained that he does not like getting his face hair cut and he gets anxious. The women said "okay that's fine". And She explained it would take 2-4 hours. Keep in mind we dropped him off @945am and his appointment was @10am. I left thinking that my dino was in good hands. HOURS PAST. So I gave them a call @4, asking for an update, thinking maybe they got busy and couldn't give us a call. They stated, "oh he's about to get started." I said okay cool. That's weird, his appointment was @10am and they're barely got started? It is what it is. Now they give me a call back @4:12pm saying "hey you need to come pick up your dog. I cut his ear and now he won't let me continue to groom him" I go pick up my dino and they say "yeah he had a scab or a matted piece of hair so it's not our fault" BUT YET, ON THE PHONE THE GROOMER LADY ADMITTED TO CUTTING HIS EAR. They did not apologize and they did not take accountability for their mistake. I am so upset and my poor dino is traumatized and did not want to go near anyone. I could not get a good photo of his cut because he was really nervous and did not want us touching him. Which is not him, he lets his owners and family pet him all the time. read more

We have been going to Pretty Paws for 10+ years and have had a great experience EVERY time. Through the years, we have had 3 different mixed poodle breeds, who not only need bathing, but a good haircut as well. Mandy has been our groomer almost the whole time, and she is absolutely awesome; upbeat personality, does what you ask, gentle with the dogs, and will work to fit you into the schedule in a pinch. We have been very happy here, and our dogs wag their times every time they get dropped off. Also, one of the things that made a positive first impression on me in the beginning, is that all the dogs are allowed to roam and play out in the open. No cages! If a dog is not behaving, they put him in "timeout" in one of the octagon gate contraptions for babies. read more

Took my dog Maxwell in on Saturday, and my opinion of Pretty Paws has only gotten more positive! Our appointment time was 9:30, and drop off went very smoothly. The groomer discussed with me how I wanted his hair cut (shaved down but not so short I can see his skin) as well as Maxwell'spersonality (he doesn't like the sound of the clippers and doesn't play well with other dogs) and any health issues has might have. I could tell he was anxious, but I felt totally comfortable leaving him there. All of the staff was calling his name and trying to provide him with a sense of calm. Got the call about 3 hours later to let me know he was ready to be picked up, and when I got there he was napping in the playpen. (I love that the dogs aren't caged at all here!) They also did a great job grooming him. The haircut looks great. The first visit includes a complimentary teeth brushing (It's $5 additional at future visits), and his breath was noticably better. They give each dog a toy on their first visit and even asked what kind of toys he likes (stuffed, plastic, squeaky, not squeaky, etc.) The price was reasonable - a bit more expensive than his previous groomer, but cheaper than Petsmart or PetCo I think - and the service is worth every penny. Maxwell will definitely be back! read more

update 10/09/12 Pretty Paws is still amazing. Great customer service - all of the groomers there are fantastic. They squeezed my dog in for a bath, and they wanted to know every health concern (and since he's older, he has arthritis and sensitive joints). They are genuinely concerned about each dog. Chip came back to me shiny and clean, and the owner, Cindy, expressed her concern of his stress levels (which are high, and have always been.. he's a neurotic dog.) I love that I can support such a great small business who take extra effort with senior dogs. Chip is tired out now, probably because they let the dogs roam and play with the other dogs! If you're looking for a great groomer & a great local business, Pretty Paws is the one for you. You won't regret it :) ps- back when they first opened (and I still lived in the area) Cindy took time out of her day to groom/bathe a lot of the shelter dogs that I was working with at the time! I have been thinking/looking for a new place to take my bichon to be groomed. I wanted a place that doesn't crate the pups, since my fur-baby has never been crated in his 5 years. I'm so happy that I found Pretty Paws! They are great! I was able to get in for a Saturday appointment. When we dropped our pup off, there must have been at least 10 dogs wagging their tails and walking around the grooming area. They asked thorough questions to make sure the grooming matched the needs of our bichon's sensitive skin. They did a great job grooming him and because we were first-timers, gave us a toothbrush, magnet and a squeaky toy for him to take home. They even mentioned that they do free "In-betweens" to clean up nails and face and such between full-on grooms. The personalized, friendly service they provided, on top of the high quality (and cheaper than Petsmart) grooming, we will definitely be back! read more

I really liked that Pretty Paws invites you to take a tour and ask lots of questions before you bring your pet in for grooming. The staff was welcoming and very helpful. I have a retired racing Greyhound. He is a nervous kinda guy. When I came to pick him up I swear I have NEVER seen him so happy. He truly enjoyed all the love and attention from all the other dogs and staff. This place is truly filled with Dog Lovers. Everyone on the staff was so helpful, and I liked the fact that all the "clients" were all smiling. His coat is so soft and they did such a fine job with his nails. The rating above isn't a joke. I have been taking my toy poodle, Joey here ever since I got him which was in 2008. The people here are awesome. They REALLY CARE about your dog & always ask if there are any issues going on that they should know prior to grooming. If you have a dog that is a "SPECIAL NEEDS" category, they will go that extra mile to make sure that their stay there is a pleasant one. The dogs are allowed to run around the area so that makes it even more enjoyable. And I believe that socialization is the best thing for a dog. If they notice anything wrong while grooming, they will immediately let the owner know in case there are any issues that might need attention by a vet. I see most of the reviews here are good, maybe it was just a bad day for them. I brought my dog to Pretty Paws for the first time. It took them forever to try and get him logged in, actually they never did get him logged in, I ended up leaving with my dog. While they were trying to do that, my dog tried to jump over the counter to my side no less than 3 times and fell backward each time. At no time did any of the groomers try to subdue him or check on him. I did not have a good feeling about the woman who was helping me nor about the woman who was trying to log him into the computer. after several minutes I told the woman, "maybe it would be better if I just took him now" she hesitated and asked me why and I said "because I don't have a good feeling about your shop" She handed me my dog and we left, based on my short experience I would not recommend this shop. read more

Omg........I am writing this review and I haven't even seen my dog BUT based on the enthusiasm in my husband's voice, I know that I will be happy! I have a 4 month Westie name Finn and we were looking for someone to give him his first real groom and upon reading the yelp reviews and speaking to Dawn & Sarah, I made the appointment. I explained that he was "new" to this and may be a bit of a challenge but they reassured me that he would be fine so Pretty Paws eased my worries especially when I learned Dawn had 2 Westies herself that sealed the deal...the customer service and EXCELLENT, the prices are reasonable, needless to say this is our puppies new groomer! Today was my first visit to Pretty Paws. I have been looking for a groomer that had that fancy little grinder tool to use on my dogs nails. Other places wanted $20 or more to cut Ruby's nails and then grind them down, but Pretty Paws only charged me $10 for the whole process and would have cleaned her ears, too, for the same price! Didn't need that service because Ruby had a bath just the night before and I cleaned her ears myself. However, it 's good to know that I can have that done the next time we're there for a nail trim. Sarah is the one who did the job and she was fantastic!! Thanks Sarah!! So, when all was said and done, Ruby got her pedicure, better than any other she's had, and a bandanna and a bow for the frosting on the cake. I love it there!! Can't wait to take Ruby back, maybe just for some play time to get her socialized better. Hey, for $15 for the day, why not! She could probably use a break from me and just sitting around in the house. All in all, you do a terrific job, Cindy and everyone that works for you. I have been taking my Jack Russell Terrier to Pretty Paws for years now. I feel very comfortable leaving my dog with them. She always comes back nicely groomed. I had bad experiences with other groomers before I started going to Pretty Paws. The first groomer took all the dogs in at one time, then caged them all day. My dog is very high strung, and cannot be caged up with other dogs around her. At Pretty Paws, they let her play with the other dogs, and she does much better not being caged. The second groomer I took her too, didn't cage them, but had nothing to protect the dog from running out the front door either. At least at Pretty Paws, the dogs are behind a short door and the counter so they can't run out when people come in. All of the groomers there obviously love dogs, and they are very good. This is the only groomer I will use! read more
