Recently stopped in here for a date night with the wife…read more We've been looking for a decent replacement ever since Tacoma lost the Rhein Haus. Since my wife is of German heritage, brats and kraut are a thing in our life. The menu here looked really good, so we stopped in our 29th anniversary. I will say, there is a parking lot across the street. For those who've been in the area for a while and remember past times, it used to be a used car lot Luckily I found an empty spot on the street right out front, so I grabbed it. But yeah, parking in this area can be tricky. Just be aware that there is the lot across the street on Puyallup Avenue, the entrance is from "Court A", which looks like an alley but is technically a road. Tacoma is fun like that. So let's talk food. We ordered the Brätzel, because my wife loves a good soft pretzel with some beer cheese. This one states that it's a beer cheese soup, and it was a bit thinner than a typical beer cheese. But it had a really good flavor. It was not gritty at all like some beer cheese can be (I'm looking at you Hops&Drops). I'm not a huge pretzel fan, but I will say that I tried a portion of it and enjoyed this one. The pretzel had a good flavor and the beer cheese soup was great. We also split the Landjäger / Käse Platte. Let's get one thing clear, this thing is bigger than it looks on the menu. There's a lot here. I'm really not sure exactly which of the four cheese were which. If you go by the description on the Käse Platte then it should be Bavaria Bleu Crème, Raclette, Emmentaler and Butterkäse. The Bleu Crème is easy to spot. The rest look similar really. But each had a unique flavor and all tasted absolutely wonderful. The cured beef and pork sausages were good, but the cheese stole the show here. We also shared the Berliner Platte for a main. Again, I can not stress this enough, there is A LOT of food here. the two of us had no chance of eating all this. This plate comes with the following sausages; Berliner Bratwurst, Smoked Cheese, Spicy Cheese, Chicken Andouille & Bockwurst as well as being served with sauerkraut and you get to pick two sides. We chose the Spätzle and Pommes (fries). All of this was amazing. The spicy sausage and the andouille were too spicy for my wife, but we knew that going in. If you have a group and are wanting to sample the many wursts here, I would highly recommend this plate. Now, let's talk service. I don't remember our server's name, but she was so great. Very friendly, very tentative, very good at her job. This was exactly the kind of service I look for when I go out to a restaurant. I don't want some tablet where I'm interacting with a faceless machine, I don't want a kiosk, I want a real person who engages with us and helps make our experience the best it can be, and this place gets it. The staff here is on point, they are good, they take good care of you and the experience made s want to come back. This place is for sure at the top of our list for German food here in Tacoma. If you have not been, you need to stop by. It's not big, it's not fancy, you'll drive right by it if you aren't paying attention. But this place is by far the perfect replacement for our missing sausage haus. We are so glad we stopped in.

As we arrived, we weren't sure if needed to seat ourselves but by the time we were about to look at a sign, a kind waitress let us know that we can seat ourselves anywhere and brought us menus. I saw that they had tables with fires which was really cool but unfortunately there were a lot of people sitting there so we just sat at the longer tables. The interior of this place is huge and bright! They have plenty of seating inside and it looks like they do outdoor seating which is dog friendly. We were told that they will have days where they have musicians playing German music and that it attracts quite a large crowd. Our waitress Sara was hilarious, personable and did a great job of taking care of us. She really made the visit all the more memorable and fun! We did order a lot: Berliner Platter with chips and spatzle, Berliner Sliders with fries and a bratzel. We did not realize just how huge the portions were for everything, like the platter was going to be big but we weren't expecting the amount of food for other order. Everything tasted absolutely amazing though! We really enjoyed everything and they do not mess around with flavors cause you taste exactly what they advertised. The house made chips were also fantastic and probably some of the best I've ever had. My boyfriend and I are excited to return and definitely will be sharing this spot to others as we thought we had to drive to Leavenworth for good German food but it is closer to home than we thought!

Unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. Our server, Jennifer Burnett, was noticeably warm and attentive to another group nearby, but with us, the service felt dismissive and disengaged. For example, my husband ordered an Aperol spritz, and when they were out, we substituted Campari--but what arrived resembled a raspberry sparkling water, not even close to what Campari tastes like. When we brought it up, the response felt very brushed off. It's disappointing because the setting and food have so much potential, but service matters. I'd recommend spending your money elsewhere in Poulsbo--there are plenty of great spots along the main strip that offer both good food and a better overall experience.

Attention: Improper Food Temperature Holding…read more We were excited to see a Brunch Buffet come to Bremerton, since Covid it has been hard to find them anymore and we were excited to go check it out. However, they have some huge errors that they need to correct. I have managed multiple food establishments before and it always concerns me when I see unsafe food practices. This place is NOT safe to eat at for the Bruch Buffet as it stands currently. They did not have the canned heat lit underneath the Buffet containers, in fact one of the containers didn't even have one at all underneath it. I figured that it was a small error and they just couldn't see it. So I let the gal at the front know, she went and told the guy who was in charge of manning and refilling the buffet station. He said something that sounded like he was disregarding it. He never once went over to attempt to light them, check on them, and completely ignored them. We continued to watch as food kept coming out but no one was dealing with the issue of the food not being kept hot. There were people in line to get food so the lids remained off of the food, so the heat is coming out, there's no heat control from the bottom, the food is just quickly making it into the danger zone. Finally I went up again to talk to the front yet again, this time there were two gals up front. I told them again that no one had lit them, and that it's quickly becoming a severe food concern and a matter of public safety. One of the gals said, "Uhm, I think that someone is looking into this". They brushed me off and I could tell they were just lying to me saying someone was taking care of this issue... It's a fast fix, you just go over and investigate them, and light them. No one once had looked at them, they aren't "looking into this", this isn't an equipment malfunction, this is a basic requirement for Food sanitation to run a buffet line. By the time we left, no one still had come up to investigate or address the issue. This is extremely unsafe. It is disappointing that the reactions from staff also did not take this seriously. This shows me that they don't care about safe food practices in this establishment which is also a huge concern. I saw several people post online about the fact that they ran into the same concerns and issues today from service. Another person said they were told by a staff member "We went to the store and couldn't find more canned heat"... there are tons of stores with it. Fred Meyer down the way had them in stock. This just wasn't a concern for them, which is not okay for a food establishment. Proper protocol for a kitchen is if they realized they didn't have them, would have been to shut down the buffet for the day and cancel it until they could get the heat source working properly. Also the buffet started at 9am and the food wasn't fully out and ready for 30 minutes past that. It's a real shame because they have the potential to be a great place. We custom ordered omelets that tasted great, the food itself when it was hot tasted good. It lacked some seasoning but otherwise they have such great potential. However, they can't ignore proper food handling. They can't risk peoples health like that. Completely unsafe and unprofessional the way they handled that.

This is the "good 'ol boys" brewery in town…read more And I say that with 100% positivity. You'll feel like you're at a big rowdy backyard cookout (don't you DARE call it a BBQ unless yer smokin' meats) that you just stumbled into. The man running the taps, who I can only assume is the owner, is boisterous, friendly, and ON TOP OF THINGS. He'll ask you what you normally drink, give you some samples, and hook you up with the right beer. I tried to give him a card and he just said "just let me know how many you've had before you leave, I trust you!". You really feel like you're at some sort of family get together. Oh, and the views of Rainier from the patio are stellar! Unlike almost all other breweries in the PacNW, this one is not stocked chock full of insufferable, apathetic, hipster and post-hipster types. The crowd here is largely blue collar: truckers and farmers, Carhart and coveralls, construction workers and men-at-work signs. Which, again, is refreshing for a brewery. Beer is for everyone, not just beardos at coffeeshops with macbook pros that "work in tech". My only qualm is that I feel like the beer is just OK. It wasn't bad or anything, but it also didn't blow me away. Most of the beers were a little too much on the sweet and malty side (even the IPA) for what I usually like to drink. (which is stuff that is really pale, dry, and bright) The irony of my sounding like one of those disaffected beer bro stereotypes I just criticized earlier in the review is not lost on me though so...take what I say with a grain of malted grain.

I don't know if it's there all the time, but when I stopped in, there's a Mexican food truck in the front parking lot. Once you've seen it it not hard to miss, as it's the only shop with all the doors wide open and a good sized covered patio area. Walking through the entrance, the decor stands out right away, growler jugs, hanging from the ceiling from breweries from all over the country, along with a lot of cool animal wood sculptures and memorabilia for honoring Veterans and history. I believe the bar tender was also the owner or one of them? Very friendly and helpful with the selections. Taking time to answer questions, even on a surprisingly busy Thursday afternoon. Lots of seating throughout the inside and on the patio area. They specialize in unfiltered brews, which I like, as it gives a full flavor to most beers you may not get, if they're over filtered, another one of those balancing acts that those workers of brewing magic deal with. I started off with a Amber lager, full tasting with the crispness of a lager, a flavorful change from the usual amber ales. The place had a cool old dudes vibes due to all the memorabilia and the old van in the shop, but definitely wasn't just an old dudes place, as a few of the younger crowd was enjoying a brew while working remote. Plan on a return trip on a weekend to check out the weekend vibe, try the food truck, and more of their tasty unfiltered beers. I also tried their Red Ale, which was also robustly flavored and went down smoothly. Gotta love those reds! A fun stop while passing through or coming back from some of the beautiful hikes in the area. Definitely have their own style and niche well done. Happy Yelping and Cheers!
