This place is awesome. Two years ago when the brinnon community has a wild fire, this business arranged to feed the fire fighters free of charge. We volunteered with staff to serve, bus tables and stack firefighters plates with goodies. I'm talking pulled pork, garden fresh veggies and awesome deserts. For two weeks they did this. Recently the graduating class of 2026 needed a space for prom and guess who stepped up? Halfway house! The prom was so cool. I was happy to see this business so invested in the community once again. The food is great. I always get the big burger, mozzarella sticks and a slice of pie. I also recommend the salmon burger. Servers are real local folks who get to know you as a person, not just a customer. They deliver in the brinnon area too! I've had the delivery service bring me food when I was sick once. We went to the halfway house on a whim because we heard their pie was great and wanted to grab a lunch on our camping trip. The place is a hole in the wall, but don't let that fool you. The service was great. The women who took care of us treated us like family. I had an oyster Po Boy, my wife had the French dip, and kids shared a chicken strip basket. All the food was fresh, hot, and crispy! The pie. I was not disappointed! We grabbed a coconut cream pie, which we love, and they gave it to us for free because it wasn't the normal slice size they offer, which is huge by the way. We also got the strawberry rhubarb, which was divine. The crust is to die for. The perfect texture and perfectly salted crust paired perfectly with the large scoop of vanilla ice cream. This spot is a hub for its community and the story it has is beautiful. Support local. Support your fire department. We showed up after a long drive in traffic and waited in line for the ferry. Very hungry naturally. Sat down and waited for menus. We got the menus and were ready to order. The waitress was taking another party's order (they arrived after us) I looked around for the waitress and she was standing at the door taking a large parties order. No this is not a 5 star restaurant for atmosphere, but if you are not in a hurry try this delightful hole in the wall diner. Hubby had the clam chowder and it had nice chunks of clams and also the wedge salad, both were delicious. I had the quarter pound burger and opted for salad over fries. Salad was fresh and a perfect size. Cheeseburger was so TASTY!!! Soft buns, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, pickles and their secret spread. Really one of the best cheeseburgers ever. The pie.... we ordered the Marion berry a la mode, oh my!!' So good. This place is visited by lots of locals and everyone was friendly. Will look forward to returning soon read more

Based on other reviews on Yelp, I was excited to eat here while on a camping trip in the area. Parking was easy, and they have great outdoor seating and indoor seating options. When my husband and I walked in, mind you it was not a full house, we waited to be seated where a young gentleman told us "it's over a 2 hour wait for food but ya can sit anywhere ya like" and walked away. Either a cook was sick or that's a small town local way of saying "we don't want your service". There were plenty of seats open and people eating so not sure what that was about, we left and didn't eat here. We went elsewhere and ate much faster. We drove passed the Halfway House less than an hour later and saw other guests served outside from who was there before and already eating....we didn't eat here but the service wasn't great and not welcoming at all. We booked a long fall weekend in Brinnon with the inlaws and searched out this throwback diner gem thanks to a recommendation of my friend's father who worked as a paint sales rep on the peninsula for twenty years. It's tiny, but has such a characteristic genuine atmosphere and good, fresh ingredient menu from milkshakes to giant burgers to homemade tartar sauce for the fish and chips. Even a Saturday prime rib special that the locals pre-ordered until it was sold out. We saw they also had hiker to-go sandos too for those hitting the Olympics from the east slope. The staff was fun, sassy and friendly, with a really local feel that's tough to still find in this type of establishment. It's the opposite of Seattle fancy or chain franchise bland but the kind of peninsula place that might even welcome Sasquatch for a shake or two at the lunch counter. And they have pie. read more

My friends and I always stop here for their pies. The staff are very friendly and it seems like all the locals hangout here. There's also a small antique store attached to the restaurant. They have all the American brunch staples as well as a long list of pies. Make sure to order your pie right when you get there and go early. They might sell out before you order. You can't go wrong with any of their homemade pies. They make them right above the restaurant. All their pies are delicious and you can taste the love (aka a lot of butter). They're a little on the sweeter side but that's to be expected at an American diner. Unfortunately the berry crumble filling was from a can, but the shortbread cookie crust made up for it. Their regular brunch items like the oyster omelette was delicious (forgot to take a photo) and had big chunks of oysters from hamma hamma bay. We then received our food, the steak was disgusting nothing but fat, my son's eggs were so runny they were raw, the biscuits were not cooked all the way through and had a hair in it. My wife had little burger and fries. While staying at a nearby vacation rental we decided to try this place based on past reviews. We had a very large order (totaled $225) which included 3 chicken sandwiches, 3 PO boys, 1 French dip, 1 steak dinner, 3 side salads, and 8 pieces of pie. First the positive- food was ready at pick up. Chicken sandwiches, French dip sandwich and salads were all good. The PO Boys (hamburger on a hoagie roll) were cold and very dry )over cooked). The steak was ordered medium but was well done and unable to eat. Being very disappointed that half of our order was underwhelming we at least had pie to look forward to BUT NO! A piece of crust crumbled from the pie so we tasted it and right away it tasted off. The shortening used tasted rancid. Every piece of pie had the same taste from the crust so we never ate any of them. We called to tell them about our order and warn them to taste the pies because something was off. They said they couldn't offer a refund and that we'd have to talk to the owner the next morning. The next morning we went in to the restaurant and spoke with the person at the counter. She told us she tasted the pies the previous night and it was fine. I offered her yo taste the pies we brought back but she refused. The owner came out and was rude and defensive saying they have only ever had 2 complaints the whole time they've been open. I told her there's no mistaking that shortening was rancid. It's got to be difficult to have a restaurant in small towns that relies quite a bit on local staffing and tourism to survive. The Halfway House isn't a small restaurant, but it's definitely not large. Staffing has always appeared to be minimal, and during my visits seats are pretty full. So it can take time to get service and it can take time to get your meal. It hasn't been uncommon for my meals to take 30 minutes or more to arrive. I've had a guest leave because she got frustrated with the wait. This isn't a place to go if you're in a rush, to avoid disappointment/frustration. But it is a place to go if you're into local vibe, supporting small rural businesses, and like home cooked meals. They're pretty known for their pie assortment. People with food restrictions (vegans vegetarians GF) don't expect a lot of options on the menu. Parking is plentiful and they have outdoor seating which is nice in the warmer months.
