THIS IS A REVIEW FOR THE TERRACE RESTAURANT (there isnt a separate Yelp listing for it) First the positives: Wonderful location and the cocktail drinks are well crafted and at a reasonable cost. The outdoor seating is comfortable, shaded, and just gives that "beach vacation" kind of feeling. The waitstaff are also attentive and friendly, even if you aren't their table they'll check on you just in case. The negatives: Unfortunately while the food _looked_ gorgeous it had almost no taste. The oysters were a bit of a shell shock (little pun humor) with how small they actually were. I understand it's not the best season currently but I don't think a restaurant should serve dime sized oysters that are 85% breading for over 20$, but that's just me. The scallop dish positive was that they werent over cooked but the only flavor I got was black pepper. The beans themselves didn't have a taste even though they were in a sort of sauce. The NY Strip felt like it was cooked first and then had seasoning added after the fact so was very bland. At the end of the day, it was a meal and I ate it as I was pretty hungry. I dont know if it was maybe an off day for the kitchen or if that's the norm for flavora. What I can say tho are that the drinks are very much worth having if you'd like to watch the sunset. read more

I just stayed here and had a great time. This hotel is impeccably clean and it feels like new throughout the entire complex. From my room to there gym, restaurant and lawns overlooking the waterside etc. not to mention the entire staff which was the best I ever experienced and I stayed at so many hotels in my life. extra 10% resort fees added on (without warning at time of booking) for a poor array of resort amenities: no cushions on lounge chairs at poolside, a so-so concrete tennis court, a few plastic kayaks and paddle boards, and a small fitness center with unimpressive equipment. We had a wonderful stay at The Pridwin. Our cottage was adorable and comfortable slept 4 of us. The pool was great for lounging all day and there were some fun activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking, ping pong and corn hole. Hotel was very clean. What a shame to have to do this review. I am writing this on behalf of my 81 year old parents who have been coming to Shelter Island for over 40 years. My dad booked a room here for 4 nights.. over $1200. Unfortunately my mom came down with Covid a day before check in and what did the Pridwin do? Nothing. They told my dad not only could they not issue him any refund whatsoever but they wouldn't honor the cost for a future date stay instead. "Should have read the fine print" he was told, which is fair, but no accommodation whatsoever given the circumstances? I guess they would prefer to keep the money and/or have guests stay even knowingly with Covid than show true hospitality to make an exception. What a disgrace management is. If you book here pray you don't wind up sick & can't go.. then again maybe just show up sick anyway since they clearly don't care. read more

This place deserves a huge uptick in rating. I just finished a mini honeymoon here with my wife and everything was fantastic. The staff was great and very on top of their game. Anything you need they got it. Outdoor sports bar and pool all day was a great relaxing atmosphere. Cocktails/beers delivered right to your seat all day long with a phenomenal view of the water. Highly recommend the expresso martinis with Marko at the main bar inside after you are finished with your pool day. Old school looking bar with a relaxed vibe. I will definitely be coming back in the future. The old pictures on previous reviews don't do it justice. This place is great. read more

The typical East End business philosophy... exorbitant pricing with lackluster experience. We held off for a while to revisit the good old Wed BbQ at the Pridwin hotel on Shelter Island. This was once such a great local event for the community and hotel goers... $45 unlimited BbQ with unlimited beer and wine... Today... $75 per ticket plus added gratuity and taxes came to about $100 per ticket.. no drinks included.. food was Lackluster by all standards and definitely not worth the $100 ticket.. then... the smell! Every bite that we took was accompanied by a whiff of cesspool/sewage.... Ironically this is our second "overpriced" experience on the East end that was fumed out by septic smells throughout the meal.. Unfortunately this will be my last visit... At least we gave it a try? We miss the good ol' days on the East end.. reasonable prices and a great community experience.. no longer exist :( read more

My family (including children) and I recently spent five wonderful days, at the Pridwin. Service and atmosphere are excellent, and staff members truly extend themselves to make one's stay comfortable. Rooms are comfortable, clean, and very pleasant. Decor is what I would call "relaxed coastal." Restaurant atmosphere, with beautiful sunset views, is outstanding. Food is well prepared, with fresh local offerings. Breakfasts, in particular, are delicious. Wait service, unlike that in many summer resorts, is perfection. Servers are very attentive to all your needs (especially those of aforementioned mentioned children!). Highly recommended! read more

I reeeeally liked this spot. My husband and I stumbled across it while we were exploring Shelter Island for the day and it was a great spot for a drink. We hung out on the patio which was overlooking the water and it was really pleasant. I wish we hadn't already eaten since the restaurant looked good. The Pridwin is back. My husband and I stayed from 9/12 to 9/15. The resort has been beautifully renovated. The staff are wonderful including Debbie, Garfield, Patricia and Thea (I'm probably spelling her name incorrectly). Food is excellent and staff are extremely accommodating. We had suggested nightlights in the morning and by nighttime they were installed. The staff aim to please and I know they will succeed. We can't wait to come back in 2023. I'm only here to review the Wednesday Pridwin BBQ. DO NOT GO! 1. it's advertised at $65 per person, nowhere does it say that they add gratuity and taxes (gratuity for a buffet bbq, no one serving anything) which actually makes it $83 per person. 2. It's just bbq food! Hot dogs, burgers, sides, and no drinks included! Sodas were $3!!!! 3. Just my opinion but also so boujee. I wore jean shorts and I was the only one who wasn't wearing a dress and heels. Basically just a high end place to be seen at before you go to Sunset Beach. Been here multiple times last year and was very satisfied. Don't know what happened...had a drink at the bar, martinis and cosmos served in thimbles. I'm not exaggerating. We went to the table and waited 15 min until we finally asked for a server, still a wait. Apps were lobster roll and seafood platter...not TOO bad. Added fries, ice cold. Other waitress handing her tables selections of bread. We asked a few times, still no bread. Menu has changed, the past one had better selections. 2 of us had a pasta dishes, ice cold and underwhelming. The others had linguini in clam sauce, cold with 3 clams. Oh, butter came for our bread while eating, but no bread. 3/4 thru our meal, asked again, finally bread. Service was slow with an unseasoned waiter. A beginner, not expected when eating at a high- end, high-priced restaurant. So disappointed couldn't even order dessert and coffee, went home and had it there. We started a conversation with the manager, said "he'll make a note of it" while doing other tasks. Didn't look at us, didn't care. Over-hyped and not worth the major bucks we paid. my wife & i stayed 6/29& 6/30 & had a beautiful experience there . Upon arrival we were greeted by Pascal who recognized us from Barons cove in Sag Harbor ,one of Cape resorts sister hotels, where he had been the gm a few years ago . The setting on the bluff on the harbor watching sunsets from the outdoor resturant or adirondack chairs on the deck was breathtaking. Katherine the resturant host was very accommodating with seating choices. The grounds & pool area are newly renovated . This was a solid spot for lunch. We sat on the patio overlooking the water and the food was fantastic. The head chef came out to greet my girl friend and I to ask how all the food was and hear about our experience. That was a nice personal touch. Stayed at the Pridwin in Shelter Island NY this past weekend. The newly renovated property was fabulous. Setting is priceless overlooking Pipes Cove & Greenport Harbor. Woke up Sunday morning with a plan. Sauna in spa locker room was top notch and brand new. Did sauna 15 min, then plunge and swim in the salt water of pipes cove. Then sauna 15 min and back in the water @ 65 degrees. Next up was a 1 hour massage for my wife and in the SPA . I had Cassandra, she had Cathy. Both were great. Lastly, back in sauna for 15 minutes then another plunge into the waters off the dock across the street. Highly recommended for a quick couples fall weekend away. read more

This review is for the Terrace restaurant only. The view, quaint clubby decor and welcoming hostess are the only positives. The service and food are so poorly executed I really felt I needed to write this review. Literally everything was a problem. No valet present upon arrival (had to go inside to search for it), loud solo musician at the entrance to the dining room, requiring us to ask to be seated as far away from him as possible in order to have normal dinner conversation. The waiter tried but was inept....initial drink order not fulfilled for thirty minutes, later drinks arrived watered down from sitting at the bar waiting too long to be picked up....Then the food - by then we decided to keep it simple and ordered a simple shrimp cocktail and cheeseburger. We had to remind the waiter to look for our orders which then came cold to the table. So, to sum it up...We experienced this as a poorly run operation banking on media hype to bring in customers. Don't be suckers like us! Unless you start to see better reviews, there are many much better places on Shelter Island for a great meal. read more

This is a review for the restaurant. Came here last night with a group of 6 for dinner. Dined on the deck, which has an amazing view. Service: The service here was FANTASTIC!! The waiters were very attentive, the bar manager came over and gave us a delicious treat (shots), the manager came over several times and checked on the food, our service and overall happiness :) Water was always full, drinks were delicious. Food: We had the 3 course meal for dinner ($30). App Mussels ---excellent, nicely seasoned, great portion Soup --carrot/ginger, delicious Main course Fish of the day --excellent, white fish, perfectly cooked, rice was so/so Lobster roll ---a-ok, needs more butter Penne bolognese--fantastic!! Tons of meat, huge portion (fannnnnnnnnnntastic) Dessert Cheese cake --yum yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy Crumble -tasty!! Went to a wedding this past weekend. Booked Two rooms in February and pre-paid. Two days after the wedding, I saw three bills on my credit card for (1) $25.64, (2) $340.46 and (3) $1,115.13. I immediately called the Pridwin. They told me it was their error and that they would reverse the charges. Three days later the charges still appeared on my credit card. I called again and notified them. They told me they did everything they could from their end and that I should call my bank to rectify. I won't be going back and I'd be very leery giving out any credit card information to these folks. Shady? I think so. read more

This is a review based entirely on the Wednesday night cookout / BBQ dinner. My family decided to attend the Wednesday night cookout dinner and it turned into an absolute disaster and a decision we regretted from the moment we paid for the meal (which they insist you do before you actually see the food and the (unbelievably long) line to get the food. There are in fact signs when you pay that say "All sales final". While this is an odd notice to post at a nice hotel, it's increasingly clear why they post this - we saw more than one family return asking for their money back after they saw the scene for dinner. The line for food was easily over 60 minutes. While this probably sounds like an exaggeration, it is absolutely not. The beer line was shorter - you are only allowed to get two plastic cups of Bud Light at a time - but the frustrating part was when the head security guard (male, mid-50s) was giving beers to women who weren't in line. He only stopped when he saw the people in line becoming frustrated at what he was doing. The food itself is of the quality of a firehouse charity barbecue. The peel and eat shrimp were inedibly overcooked (and they were not de-veined), the "steak" was a very low quality cut of steak I have never seen before. The tuna was scary enough that we did finish it. The scene was shocking - it shocks me that people go back and pay for a meal like that more than once. There are security guards all over the grounds, which is a very rare sight in Shelter Island (which is extremely calm and safe). The food line was laughable. The quality of the food fit in with the rest of the story. We most certainly will never return to this hotel for the cookout. read more

It's a lot of money for what you get in terms of style or service, It's in a beautiful location and has real character but the service is amateurish, but maybe the holiday is going for like laid back casual vibe which then it works, the staff are so young so they just do what they want but they are nice and polite just not very professional, The breakfast is buffet and it does the job but again for the price per night i would expect freshly cooked breakfast, we didn't eat in the restaurant for dinner but our friend was there with a group one of the nights and said the old was good but service was slow. The room was small, with a tiny tv sitting on the drawer , taking up space as it would be easy to hang it on the wall, the bathroom was nice with a big shower, overall cleanliness was good but I did look under the bed and there was papers and sweets so that's a miss, the A/C looked like something straight out of the 80's, as I was ironing it was dripping water on me and clothes I had on the chair, The pool is salt water which is a nice change, the shower area and toilets need an update. They have a private beach across the road, calling it a beach is hard as there is not a lot of sand but they have lounges and umbrellas complimentary so that's great. I would stay here again but prob would look for a deal first read more

The hotel has stunning water / sunset views. Very chill vibe with access to kayaks, paddle boards, and tennis courts. The rooms are somewhat dated but adds to the overall sleepy charm and lends to the feeling of being "away". Service in the summer consists of young European imports who at times can be slow but are doing their best. Expect to wait a bit for tables and service at the restaurant, but how can you complain, when your wait involves such a breathtaking view. read more

And the service was lacking. I didn't want to review the Pridwin on the first visit but after the second i can say: don't go there for food and aside from the front door staff, don't expect much. I've been staying at the Pridwin for 3 summers and it is the ABSOLUTE best. The views from the hotel and restaurant are exceptional, the food is excellent, and the service is great. My recommendations: Hang out in the lobby on rainy days and get to know other hotel guests, take a bike out and explore the island (shell beach is amazing), and definitely go swimming off the dock in front of the hotel! The Hamptons are not my cup of tea (too trendy) but if you're looking for a place to relax, swim, and enjoy nature - the Pridwin on Shelter Island is the place to go. read more

I give this place 3.5 stars. Very cute place with nice staff. But the rooms are tiny, even for NYC standards. Ironing our clothes (for the wedding we were there for) was not as easy as it could've been due to lack of space (also because their iron is pretty cheapo but I guess they're afraid people will steal it otherwise?). There was also no table so when we bought sandwiches for a quick lunch before the ceremony, we had to use the ironing board as the table (we left it clean! i swear!). Their "continental breakfast" was also pretty lackluster. Just english muffins and yogurt and mini-boxes of cereal for food. Plus side is that the beds were comfy, the atmosphere is homey, and the views of the water are fantastic. So so beautiful. I'd come back here, but for $230 per night (w/ taxes), I wish their breakfast was better! read more
