Booked room for one night for over $1,000. The upstairs bedroom had NO AC. When contacting the front desk they were unable to fix the AC and gave me a cheap stand up fan. It's the middle of June and that's completely unacceptable. They would not change the room or provide any compensation. Nice full kitchen, bed was a little small, couch and TV, private patio with table and chairs. The heated pool was big and clean. The place has direct beach access with plenty of chairs and towels. Check-in staff was friendly. The only downside was that the bathroom (unit #6) needs an upgrade. Would stay here again. read more

I spent a few days here during the off season and it was absolutely perfect. I had selected an ocean view room which had a beautiful view of the ocean. It was a bit too chilly to walk on the beach but it was still very peaceful and beautiful. The rooms was clean and decorated nicely. If you are new to the area be forewarned cellular service is very spotty. The check in process was contactless and efficient. The suite was well appointed with two bedrooms, one with a queens size bed and the other two twin beds in a loft layout. Very spacious and airy. This resort is located within a minutes drive to the local market which has everything you would need for a quick visit. I really would like to return right before or after high season since I love the beach but not the crowds. Was a wonderful experience and a great place to just relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. read more

My kids and I stayed here from Monday to Friday during July, primetime in the summertime. A little expensive but its right on the beach in the Hamptons with a pool and cabana service. We paid extra for the two bedroom with an oceanfront room. There were things I loved about this place and things I felt could be improved. First on, its right on a nice beach with cabana service and they have a well maintained pool. Towels are available for use both by the pool and by the beach. The place is clean, has a working kitchen with some utensils (coffee maker, dishwasher, fridge, oven), has wifi on the beach and daily house keeping. The only other places directly on the beach in the Hamptons are either motels or Gurneys or Marram which are also crazy expensive in the summer. Secondly, staff were very nice! Responsive to the things I needed. The staff setting up there were young kids on their summer break and they were helpful. The place needs a little upkeep. The floors must have been recently done because they looked nice. One of the things I was a little disappointed in was that our room wasn't really oceanfront even though they said it was. The dunes are in the way and the room isn't high enough to see over the dunes. Our screen door was broken and needed to be fixed.The hair dryer is old, as was the the iron. The shower supplies they give did not have a body wash (only soap) so you need to bring your own. Bed isn't the most comfortable and the loft bed upstairs was 2 single beds. Overall though, we had a nice stay and it was mostly due to the friendly staff. Would consider coming back. read more

We stayed at Windward Shores for one night in early January, so the price was about a quarter of what you would pay in-season. I always wanted to explore Montauk without crowds and without breaking my budget so this was perfect. Our room was an ocean view corner duplex (maybe #36?) and was very clean with two new bathrooms. The beds were comfortable, including the sofa bed. Loved being able to walk to the beach to see the sunrise (which wasn't too early since it was January!) and take walks along the beach in relative solitude. The kitchen was fine - the basics for supplies, and the dishes/cutlery needed a cleaning before use. The kitchen supply cleanliness is what kept this great place from receiving 5 stars. The lighting wasn't great but that is ok (except when trying to play games at the dining table). The wifi worked fine - we were able to attach a device we brought with us to the tv to watch a movie. One recommendation (for a January trip in a pandemic!) would be to bring food with you since most of the restaurants were closed or only had take out, and the yelp reviews for the places that were open weren't great! We spent two days exploring the parks, first around the lighthouse, and the second day around Camp Hero which was interesting and beautiful. Can't wait to go back! read more

This is the second time with this hotel group and I can't find something to complain about. The space are great for the price mark and the views and location aim to impress. Just after our first stay we had to come back two weeks later. I highly recommend staying here. The hotel was clean and with a full kitchen. The bathroom was updated and modern. Overall the resort is fine. But as I can see it varies among rooms and individual experiences. My studio is OK except for the bathroom. The exhaust at the ceiling was sloppily installed having big gaps exposing the ceiling. Some of the walls were broken and the patch-up was very shoddily done. However the room amenities were all there so I have no complaint at the room service staff. But management should have touched up the bathroom. read more

My group of 9 and I rented one deluxe studio (1 sofa bed, 1 queen) and one two bedroom suite (duplex - 2 twin beds, 1 sofa bed, 1 queen bed) the weekend after Labor Day (Sept 2018). The resort is great for a mini getaway. We especially enjoyed the duplex because of the amount of space we got and the typical hamptons style decor. The resort is in a very convenient location and the private access to the beach is a huge plus. It is also an easy 5-10 min drive into town if you want to check out the boutiques and cafes/restaurants. If you're willing to brave the Montauk Highway, The Lobster Roll is right next door to the resort! The resort has free parking, tennis courts, and a pool for you to enjoy. At night, the resort also permits you to have your own bonfires as long as you put it out properly and follow their safety instructions. We spent our last night roasting marshmallows and chatting on the beach around our own bonfire. Some kinks that could be fixed - The sofa bed in the deluxe studio was a little worn down so two people ended up sharing the sofa bed in the duplex instead. On the first night, the deluxe studio's hot water was also not working. We called maintenance and they fixed it the next day. Overall, our weekend getaway was fun and relaxing and I would definitely stay here again. read more

Do not go to this resort-we were shown and promised a lovely duplex apartment last summer and found ourselves this year in an ill-furnished, holes in the wall place! Charged $5K+ for a week in a dump! Also, the support staff was not there to keep the pool clean and the young staff members complained of being moved daily from one Dune Resort location to another and admitted there was not adequate staff to service clients. When we complained to the front desk, manager conveniently was never there during our stay, they refunded two nights after we presented them with a list of what was wrong with the apartment, but our whole fee should have been refunded! We sent a certified letter to Dune Resorts in East Hampton to complain of such conditions and of course they never replied-so much for client relations!- Never go to Windward Shores or any of the Dune Resorts in the Hamptons! read more

We booked a room for two nights for my sisters birthday and it was awful. Although the offer nice facilities, the managers and staff were very rude and nasty. They boast about a luxurious pool and pool deck with white tables and umbrellas yet you cannot eat at the tables. Also if you bring beverages, they must only be water. So why do they have tables then? The manager let us know we can go to the beach and do whatever: eat, drink, play music. When we got out there, the staff harassed us about music. It was ridiculous because we weren't near any other guests and the music wasn't offensive; unless, of course, you think Chopin and Beethoven could offend someone. It was supposed to be a relaxing day. The power went out and I went down to the office to see if it were the individual apartment or the whole facility. I peaked into the office and asked politely about the power outage, I got a snarky-sass response: "Does it look like it's just your apartment?" I was appalled because it wasn't a smart-a** question. I wanted to make sure. I wish the manager and staff would have had a little more class and had some respect for their guests. After all it wasn't a cheap excursion and it is the Hamptons. read more

Went to this place last year for a summer getaway. The rooms are basic but nice - every one has a small kitchen, fairly comfortable bed and average-sized bathroom. The best part is that it's literally right on the beach, so you have easy ocean access. There's not much a view from most rooms though, since you look right out at sand dunes. As a cyclist, I loved that this was on a long main road, but for everyone else, it probably sucks. It's at least three miles to Montauk proper, and about 2.5 miles from downtown Amagansett. So, a very easy car ride, but there's literally nothing on foot within a few miles. The "lounge" is kind of run down and has a shabby ping pong table. But, there's a decent pool and tennis courts. Prices range from $190 - $370, but most rooms are between $200-$250. If you want a relatively cheap way to be near Montauk or the Hamptons, this is a solid option. read more

Beautiful stay!!! My husband and I were gifted a weekend stay here for our birthdays in Feb. 2017. We were lucky enough to have our first day be sunny and in the 60's, it felt like Spring time! We were in room #22, which is ground level, but on the front corner closest to the walkway to the beach-which we loved immensely! It was a short walk out onto the beach and our view was of the dunes and dune grass and the beautiful sky. There was also a patio table with 4 chairs outside the sliding door, which we took advantage of when it was warm enough. We liked the decor in the room, especially the curtains and couch pillows and the coffee table, but there were also many aspects that are in need of updating. I've experienced this in other places in the area, and I don't see updates happening soon because they know they'll still make their ridiculous amounts of money during the in season. That being said, the majority of the fixtures need to be updated, almost the entire bathroom needs renovating and there was a constant humming 24hrs/day, but I couldn't figure out exactly where it was coming from. Some of the ceiling tiles in the bathroom were lifted, the bathroom cabinet door kept opening on it's own, and the fridge in the kitchen (not surprisingly) didn't have water or ice in the door. Also, the bed we think was only a full, queen at best, and not the most comfortable. Again, we loved our stay, I rated the resort with 4 Stars, the staff we spoke to were very nice and polite, but for the good money people pay (especially in season) you should be getting more for your money in the room. It was nice that there was an extra blanket and pillows in the closet, along with an iron and hair dryer in the bathroom. We were also left dishwasher detergent and similar products in the kitchen for cleaning up after ourselves, which I appreciated. We would definitely stay here again because of the location. read more

I've been here and loved it. There are some crappy rooms tho and 22 is one of them smelled like mold the kitchen falling apart old and like an economy version all around. I don't understand why they wouldn't fix this and why they even offer it with that smell. The manager responded quick and got us another room. It's a place to sleep. I don't know what other people's rooms looked like but let me sum up ours: tube tv (complete with VHS), little stains on the bath towels, 90s furniture...desperately needs updating. We didn't choose this place as we were out here on a job and the client paid for it but...this place could be so great but instead it's just bare minimum with a beautiful view and great beach access. They do clean your room but when we got in bed there was sand at the foot of the bed in with the sheets...so apparently they just make the bed, not change the sheets.... We had a little kitchen/fridge/stove which was nice but other than that, it's just a place to stay with a pool. Waking up to pounding feet: the kids above us running back and forth through their room. And let's not forget the ol pull out queen size bed with springs that might as well be on the outside of it. We liked our weekend stay at windward shores. We asked for a room change when we arrived because when we looked at the bed it did not look like a queen. So they upgraded us to a ocean view suite. It was very nice and we enjoyed our time there. My one gripe is that the again the bed was not comfortable. I stayed here the weekend before Christmas to visit family who live in the area. The rooms are but nice for the price; the basic ones are small efficiencies with mini kitchens and fold-out couches (in addition to the queen size beds). I found the bathrooms to be nice and more than serviceable. Like others have mentioned, the rooms are on the beach, so you have quick and easy ocean access; however, you can't really see the ocean (from the ground floor rooms) because the sand dunes serve as a buffer / barrier protecting the buildings from being swept away / over-run when the tide is high or during storm swells. The town of East Hampton is about 8 miles to the East. Montauk is about 2.5 miles to the West. Amagansett town proper is about 1.5 miles to the East. Windward Shores has some good places to eat at nearby during prime tourist season (Clam Bar, Lobster Lunch and Luz Deli) but only Luz Deli is open during the off-season. Astro Pizza in Amagansett town is also a good close-by dining option (open during off-season). I heard the hotel lounge is a bit too rustic or run down (with a shabby ping pong table); however, I did not venture in to check it out. The pool and tennis courts were closed this time of year (Winter / off-season). Prices range from $190 - $370. Most rooms are priced between $200- to $250. If you want a relatively inexpensive way to be near Montauk or the East Hampton this is very much a very good option. Perhaps deserves 2.5 or maybe 3.5 stars but I think 3 is a fair assessment. read more

Let me just start with Lori is beyond rude. She claims to be super accommodating except she was in no way of help. My grandmother had booked me a stay as a gift, I called to confirm, she gave me an issue from the start. When all was said and done, she confirmed my reservation. What is great about this place is that you can walk out your back door and go right onto a private ocean beach. All other resorts we have gone to do not offer this convenience or quality and privacy of the beach. Rooms are nice and service is good. There is a well maintained pool with lifeguard and tennis courts. Great for families- my kids insist on going here every year. Conveniently located to East Hampton, Amagansett and Montauk. read more

This place is fantastic! Everything is clean and updated. The facilities are simple and welcoming. Everything you need for a beach getaway. I think Evan R's review is somewhat inaccurate. While Windward Shores is certainly located in the middle of the Napeague Stretch there are several restaurants located on the stretch. In fact the Clam Bar is just a short walk to the east of the entrance to Windward Shores. The Lobster Roll is maybe a quarter mile to the west and there a few others within a mile including Cyril's and Espo's surf shop. If you do stay here you will not be in the middle of town but I would assume that is what you were looking for if you booked here and took a brief look at a map. The center of Montauk town is 5.9 miles away and Amagansett town is less than a 10 minute drive to the west. If you love the ocean this is a fantastic spot! read more
