We lucked out and got a table with no reservations on a rainy Saturday night. I've been coming to greenport for years, but we rarely have a kid free night to try American Beech. The decor is beautiful and we had an amazing dinner. I forgot to take pictures of the tuna crudo, tuna tartare and rice balls. All of the appetizers were out of this world!! An amazingly tasty entree in a Calabrian chili brown sauce that had an unexpected and tasty kick. My other half enjoyed the tasty blackened Mahi. Each room is unique and in a different part of the building and/or a different building entirely. Depending on this, you may be staying above a bar which I read can be very noisy, so you use discretion. Freindly service upon check in and easy check-out. The room that I stayed in (14) has a generous space, plenty of natural light, and very private among other guests. Very clean and modern decor. This suite has a tub and shower stall, and unfortunately the shower stall is on the smaller side. Complimentary breakfast delivered right outside your door includes fresh Goldberg's bagels, spreads, yogurt, fruit, OJ and coffee that actually tasted good! Such a nice touch. Cute spot with a convenient walk to town and friendly staff. Unfortunately, our experience was significantly impacted by the constant slamming of the kitchen door located directly below Room 5. We were hoping for a relaxing anniversary weekend, but the door was opening and closing repeatedly throughout the day, often every minute or two. The noise and vibration were impossible to ignore--it literally shook the floor and exterior wall of our room. For a stay that cost approximately $1,500 for the weekend, this was extremely disappointing. The issue seems easily preventable and should be addressed, as it greatly detracts from the guest experience. While the location and staff were wonderful (honestly the only thing saving this place from a one star review), the constant noise made it difficult to relax and enjoy our stay. Next time we'll stay at the Menhadan or Soundview. read more

Food was amazing! When I asked for a side of truffle fries, the server asked if he could bring it as an appetizer. We didn't realize it was super huge ($16) and every single fry was crisp and had evidence of truffle. All of us could not stop eating this platter of goodness. The outdoor dining area was lined with green bamboo with a bungalow appearance. Furthermore, in the outside dining area, there are couches that create a relaxing comfortable hang around the outdoor bar. There is also a wood-burning fireplace that I would guess would warm up the area during the Fall. We chose to dine indoors since it was hot and humid for outdoor seating. The staff was attentive in service and accommodating with the menu selection. The entrees we chose were exceptional, especially the sesame crusted tuna which came along with noodle seaweed salad, and other delicious ingredients. Also, the burger was delicious, wagyu beef, brioche, cheddar, lettuce, bacon, pickled onion, their creative sauce along with fries. I chose the day boat sea scallops which were accompanied with corn, bell pepper succotash, and pea shoots. Quite crispy. American Beech, we are so happy we decided to make dinner reservations here for Father's Day. Location: This hidden gem, (well maybe it's not so hidden) is located right off Main Street. It can't get any more convenient than that. There is plenty of street parking and we had no issues at all. Appearance: This place is EVERYTHiNG, I mean this place can transform into whatever you want it to be, it screams summer but also fall and winter. It gives me beach vibes but also classy, sexy intimate vibes. It's minimalist, boho, trendy, you pick the buzz word and American Beech is it! The decor is absolutely beautiful. Service: I can't stress how nice, attentive and welcoming everyone is. We arrived and were seated at the bar while our table was being prepared. We were seated with our 5 year old. The possibly owners/managers stopped by with complimentary champagne for Father's Day and apologize for the minimal wait. Our server was attentive and checked in constantly. I was able to see the owners/managers again who as they came around making sure everything was good. If you want a taste of what real customer service is like, come here, you won't regret it. This was such a good find! I love the vibe, and was excited to finally get here! There is a great outdoor bar, surrounded by a bunch of patio tables, couches, and beautiful decor. American Beech is an ideal location if you're visiting Greenport. It's close to all the shops and restaurants within walking distance. But there were a few things we didn't like that made our stay not worth the price point. Pros: - Very cute decor and beachy aesthetic - Free glass of rose every day from 4-5pm for guests - Super close to Greenport Brewery - Complimentary beach pass (but only 3 total, so I suggest going early to get one) - Complimentary bikes - Complimentary breakfast that comes in a cute picnic basket at 9am everyday: bagels w/ cream cheese and jelly, coffee, fruit, granola, yogurt, orange juice Cons: - $$$ - No mention of their updated COVID cleaning protocol in the rooms or on their website - VERY thin walls. You can hear everything in the hallway and outside (we had a huge semi parked outside our window in the morning at 8am stalled. We could hear his engine for at least 2 hours before he left) - No room service or late night food at American Beech or in the area - Loud music until 10:30pm when the restaurant/bar closes Of note, the set up is kind of like a square where there are rooms surrounding the courtyard/restaurant area. You can either face into the courtyard or out onto the street. Both of which are probably noisy We probably wouldn't stay here again given a different choice just due to the loud activity outside. Try the truffle fries at the restaurant and tell if they're not the best ever - because they are the best, ever. Staff is friendly, cocktails are beautiful, and the food was all good. If you're looking for a spot to have a snack or a meal after wine country I highly recommend, also a great hotel to stay at if you're touring wine country. There are mocktails available. The location also offers tons of street parking and is right in the middle of Main Street greenport so you can go window shopping after dinner. Stayed in room 6. There is a nightclub below and the door slams constantly. Really too bad because it could have been a lovely stay other than the nightclub and door slamming. The most perfect 2 day getaway. From the moment we got there the service was amazing. The front desk was extremely helpful and checked us in quickly as well as gave us a bunch of recommendations for local beaches. Our room was so cute! Extra plus that I was able to bring my dog. They left my dog a cute water bowl along with treats that she loved. Each morning we were given a basket with breakfast that was delicious. 4 pm everyday they do complimentary rose hour. The town was super cute and everything was walking distance. Everyday I got text messages in the morning and night from hotel staff asking if I needed anything which I thought was very nice . HOTEL & RESTAURANT REVIEW American Beech is a great little place to stay in Greenport for up to 3 nights. My wife and I came here on our "mini moon" and we love the central location of the hotel to front street and all of the restaurants and shops. The rooms are nice and you can tell that they're a bit dated but have been kept up. Set your expectation to this so that you're not disappointed when staying here. We loved the continental breakfast every morning and enjoyed coffee, fruit, pastries and their back porch to read our books before starting the day. The restaurant is nostalgic for us, years ago my wife and I went on our first date here and I kissed her at the corner of the bar for the first time. So now we always come visit for cocktails and oysters when we're in the area. I booked the hotel for our "mini-moon" for this reason. The main courses at the restaurant are unimpressive though, so start your night here with some fancy drinks, apps, oysters and then move on to a better restaurant for your actual dinner (I've reviewed many restaurants in greenport so check them out on my page for some great options: Anker, Noah's, Frisky Oyster..). The food at American Beech has a lot of room for improvement so I've deducted a star. I also deducted a star from the hotel because the walls are incredibly thin. There was some sort of creaking coming through the walls all day and night and I'm not typically one to be bothered by noises, I'm a heavy sleeper. However, this was a bit bothersome but it didn't ruin my trip. The staff in both the hotel and restaurant are very nice and accommodating. I recommend staying here if you have a full disclosure on what to expect with the rooms. We really enjoyed American beech being our home base while we explored Greenport. If we had stayed for more than 3-4 days, I'd have booked a room with a bit more quiet and seclusion. Also- if you're seeking tennis courts in the area, you won't find them on google but you can walk or ride bikes up to the greenport school and there are 4 nice tennis courts that you can walk right on to. read more

My lobster roll was PACKED with fresh lobster and the truffle fries are probably some of the best I've ever had.
