Prik Hom never serves a boring dish. Every plate we tried was packed with flavor and felt thoughtfully executed. The pork boat soup was excellent, with almost a gelatinous texture, but the standout for me was the marinated crispy crab salad! It's tangy, sweet, and full of flavor. It had a pronounced fish sauce note, but it was beautifully balanced with sweetness and acidity, making it complex without being overpowering. Unlike some Thai dishes where the fish sauce can dominate, here it complemented the other flavors without being too in your face. Don't skip dessert. The smoked coconut ice cream was a favorite of mine too! smoky, sweet, fragrant, and perfectly balanced. It's one of those desserts that lingers in your memory long after the meal is over. The service was warm and attentive throughout the meal, and the restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, creating a welcoming and thoughtfully designed atmosphere that elevates the dining experience. One of the things I love most is that the menu changes with the seasons, which keeps things exciting and gives you a reason to come back and try something new. This is definitely becoming a regular spot for us, and I look forward to seeing what they come up with next season.
We had this Michelin guide Thai spot on our list for a while and finally made a reservation for dinner on Saturday night since their menu had more chicken/veggie options for me to try (made the reservation a day or two before). It's not a huge spot so definitely recommend making a reservation or if you do walk in, they may have bar seating. We found parking easily on a Sat evening. We got the chicken wings, shrimp lettuce wraps, beef shank curry, eggplant basil and purple rice. + Got seated right away and staff was friendly + Loved the chicken wings, so flavorful and saucy but also still crispy + Shrimp lettuce wraps were refreshing - it was like a ceviche but not too tangy/on the sweeter/citrus-y side + Eggplant had nice wok hei/charred flavor and also good basil stir fry taste, I enjoyed it even though I'm not a big eggplant person + my husband said the beef was very tender and curry was unique/on the sweeter side +thai ice tea was great, good tea flavor balanced with the sweetness (we of course finished most of it before the mains even came out) - We were thinking about ordering the umami shrimp and had asked if it comes with head on and legs and our waiter said yes but then the table next to us ordered it and theirs didn't... so not sure if they misunderstood us or if you have to request no shell etc. but would've liked to try this... also some pictures on Yelp seemed to have only tail on so that was confusing - Eggplant basil was great but could've been even better imo with onions or bell pepper to add more varied texture. I liked that it was mostly softened but a few pieces did have a stronger veggie/earthy taste

I made a same day reservation on Resy for 5pm on a Thursday. It wasn't needed. There were only 2-3 other tables occupied there during our entire meal. Menu changes. Currently their menu is running from March - June. Ordered the following: Scallops with lemongrass 5/5 - a must have! Citrus salad with soft shell crab 4/5 - crispy fried crab with generous serving of 3 different kinds of citrus Grilled black cod curry 4/5 - a tad spicy and a watery curry sauce Branzino and tamarind 5/5 - crispy and tender fish w/rainbow carrots and addicting sweet sauce Purple rice 4/5 Ultimate Thai tea 3/5 - a bit different but prefer the OG Smoked young coconut ice cream 4/5 - not a fan of the candle smoke. I would suggest adding roasted peanuts. The staffs could be a bit more attentive especially with the lack of diners. We had to get their attention a few times. I would come back for their summer menu.
The restaurant has a small space and a reservation is a must. Our party had three people on a weeknight. You will definitely be close to your neighboring tables. So keep this in mind when trying out this place. They have a seasonal menu and be sure to check the website to see what they are serving. The portions are actually larger than I was expecting. They are meant to be shared. Though I got just the tom ka mushroom soup it filled me up. I kept putting my spoon into the bowl and the amount of mushrooms seemed to never end. It was very flavorful and would recommend. The duck confit and black soy sauce didn't seem to have much duck. My friend was digging around for it. My other friend got the umami shrimp and enjoyed it. She ate it all. The smoked young coconut ice cream was not as smoky as I was expecting.. visually. But the taste was definitely smoky. The gelatin added was difficult to get with a spoon. Overall, the experience was good. The service was polite and they regularly refill your water. The food was plated beautifully and had interesting take on Thai cuisine that is more elevated than your usual mom and pop shop. If you need the restroom, expect a line 'cause there's only one right before the kitchen.

I would describe this place as fitting in about midway between your standard thai fare and your fancier places like Kin Khao and Nari. The prices also fit in about midway between the two. As you can see by the photo, scallop is on the small side and not properly seared and caramalized. Flavor was good, but it didn't blow my hair back and, texturally, the dish was one-note. Umami shrimp stir fry: 3.5/5 Forgot to take a pic, but I figured it would be more of a composed dish with shrimp and some veg. It was basically just shrimp with a few thin slivers of, what looked like, crispy purple carrot? They didn't add much to the dish and seemed kind of like an afterthought. The shrimp themselves were tasty and plump and juicy but I am not exactly sure where the "umami" was supposed to be coming from. Duck Confit Salad: 4/5 This was actually pretty good. Have not had anything quite like this before. Loved the sweet, salty, tangy components. Had nice textural contrast. There was SOME heat, but I was craving more of it. Beef wrap curry: 4.5/5 Definitely a unique dish. Have not had a curry quite like this. The sauce was complex and craveable, not coconut-based like most Thai curries. Beef was super tender. This dish had the most heat, but I still wanted some more. Overall, the restaurant did not meet my expectations, but, taking the expectations out of the equation, it is a very solid neighborhood restaurant. I wouldn't schlep all of the way up there for it, but if I were in the neighborhood, I would definitely eat there again. Also, the food, in general, needed more heat and spice in general. If I were going to rank this place with my other bay area favs, it doesn't even come close to Kin Khao and Nari (haven't been to Hed 11 yet), and Larb in El Cerrito and Khom Loi in Sebastapol still edge this one out imho. Better than Thronglor (which I also found to be super overrated).
So glad we finally tried this place. Definitely worth the hype. Great service and great food. Every dish we ordered we would definitely order again. Scallops - perfect combination of flavors with the lemongrass and coconut. Jin tup (beef jerky) - this was a wild card pick but it was delicious and a really good appetizer. Duck confit w/ black soy sauce salad - so good. The duck was shredded similar to a pulled pork texture which paired perfectly with the cabbage salad. Crab, Mussel, Clams curry - this was our favorite of all the dishes. The flavor medley was top notch. Umami Spicy Shrimp - very flavorful dish. Eggplant w/ basil - standard delicious stir fry eggplant. Looking forward to going back many times
What we'd get again: I still think about their scallops - please order them! I regret eating all of it too fast. The Thai tea here also hits different and is not the same as other places. The shrimp stir fry was also amazing. Super fresh shrimp and shrimp oil with rice was just chef's kiss. And top it all off with the smoked coconut ice cream!! It's super unique, and haven't had the smokiness, stickiness, and iciness anywhere before. Maybe not: the beef curry was too gamey, and the Lao sausage wasn't as flavor packed as I've had in the past. I would love to try their next seasonal menu! Perfect for a cute date night or an intimate birthday dinner.
3.5 stars. Came here for a birthday dinner after all my friends raved about the food here. I was a little disappointed but the food was still enjoyable. I just don't think the taste was necessarily worth the price. What we ordered: + Scallops with Lemongrass + Purple Rice + Fried Chicken Hat Yai + Oxtail Soup + Duck Confit Curry + Grilled Beef Curry For the appetizers: The scallops with lemongrass [4.5/5] were surprisingly great! Perfectly toasted and good flavor. The fried chicken hat yai (3.5/5) tasted very bread-like and had very little meat. The Oxtail Soup (4/5) was pretty yummy and had an ample amount of meat but wasn't mind-blowing or anything. For the entrees: The Duck Confit Curry (3.5/5) was flavorful but I've had much more tender duck at other places. The portion size was also a bit small. The Grilled Beef Curry (5/5) was the favorite dish of the night! It was spicy, good portion size, and comes with a lot of meat. The fee to bring a cake in for our friend was a bit steep but they did have candles and prepared the cake for us, which was nice. :) I know their menu rotates every couple of months so I'd be willing to try this again and see if the taste improves at all.
Prik Hom excelled in a few ways, and disappointed in quite a few others. It was exciting to try the spot, but I think there is room for growth. Overall I'd say it's a good experience, but I give it four stars and this review because I think there's potential for doing better! Service is spectacular - the man who helped us was so kind and wonderful. He was exactly what you look for in a waiter, anticipating our needs, suggesting what makes sense, answering questions, and being fast and thorough. He did make one mistake though, he promised me some spicy food, and I never got spicy food in the entire meal. It says at the top of the menu "If you love Spicy Food, Let us Know" or something along those lines. I told him that two of us liked spicy food, and two of us didn't, so it'd be nice to get a couple dishes that were VERY VERY VERY spicy. He said of course, we would be blown away - he then brought us these dishes and they weren't that spicy at all. Even one of the non-spicy lovers thought it wasn't that spicy. Now the scallops and brulee-d bananas are the winners. You should get both. I do like the "Spicy Beef" which was good - and with the addition of some spicy peppers and sauce a bit spicy. The Scallops were just perfectly cooked and seasoned and truly no notes there. The wine selection was excellent with some great natural wines that went very well with the meal. The squid salad was bad, but everything else was at the very least good. We ended up with two bananas though, they were that good!
We got the Thai Tempura Starter, Duck Confit Red Curry and Beef Green Jungle Curry. Thai Tempura Starter: The batter was thick and tasted of oil. However, the peanuts in the sauce were a big improvement. It was disappointing bc I really enjoy a good tempura. At other restaurants, the batter can be light and flavorful. Duck Confit Red Curry: The duck was cooked well, but it was a little too sweet of a curry for me. Also the portion size was too small. I was still hungry after eating it, and the starter. Green Jungle Curry: My husband actually really enjoyed it. He liked the spice and light fish sauce flavor. We sat at the bar because there were no tables available. There was a strong smell of cleaning supplies.
We had a wonderful experience from start to finish at Prik Hom! The host and server were attentive and thoughtful throughout our meal. Drinks: The jasmine rice iced tea was unique and enjoyable. The ultimate Thai tea wasn't all that different from a typical Thai tea but it was yummy! Appetizers: The fried chicken was some of the best I've had! Succulent, well-spiced, and with crispy skin. The Thai tempura had a nice mix of veggies and delicious sauce. Salad: We wanted something light and refreshing, and the passion fruit shrimp and mandarin delivered on both fronts! Soup: Tom ka is a favorite dish of mine. I loved Prik Hom's take on it because it was loaded with mushrooms and served with an excellent chili oil on the side. Entree: The star of the show was the beef green jungle curry! Delightfully spicy, a mix of textures due to the different meat preparations, and just plain tasty. We had it with the purple rice which was perfect. Dessert: We wanted to try both desserts but were too full so we settled on just the smoked coconut ice cream. I've never had anything like it! The smoke flavor really came through but it wasn't overpowering in the slightest. It was sweet and complex.
We dont make it over here much but im glad we did because this place is so good. Everything was suoer flavorful and not super spicy, but spicy to add character to the dish. Overall though my favorite was the scallop. The service was great and the ambiance was good for a date night or friends get together setting.
My husband and I enjoyed a nice dinner at Prim Hom on a Thursday evening. We made reservations prior to coming, there were two other parties dining in before 6 am. Husband ordered a cold beer to start. Looks like they have a seasonal or rotational menu. We ordered the scallop as appetizer, the rockfish dish, the red beef shank curry and the big prawns. Everything tasted great. All the dishes had sweetness and savory notes to it & perfectly spicy. Hard to choose a favorite dish, they were all pretty solid imo. Curry was perfectly spicy and the beef shank was melt in your mouth. Wish there were bigger pieces of rock fish, it felt like more of a salad dish than a main. The prawns were good too, savory and sweet taste to it. I wanted to try one of the soups, maybe next time. Enjoyed the light music in the background as well. Food came promptly one after the other. read more

My fiancee and I visited Prik Hom for her birthday, and we really enjoyed the experience while there, but I ended up having food poisoning from something we ate. From the start, I felt like the service was pretty accommodating. I was able to move our reservation up by an hour on a Saturday evening, even though the restaurant was pretty busy. The waitstaff were really attentive without being pushy, which we appreciated too. We started off with the scallops which were cooked well, with a decent crust but soft inside. The sauce they come with is extremely flavorful. We also got the corn, which had a more nutty flavor and a bit more spice. Our mains were the shrimp and chicken, which we asked to be made mild, but were still quite spicy. The larb had a really tasty and strong lemongrass flavor without being too dry, and the oyster mushrooms that came with the shrimp were grilled really well. For dessert, the ice cream had a great texture and really nice coconut + smokey flavor. We left the restaurant really happy with the meal that was packed with flavor throughout and very well priced. Around 2 hours later, I ended up having major food sickness (mostly vomiting). My finacee was fine, and we had shared pretty much everything, but I did eat more of the larb than she did, so that might have been the culprit? It unfortunately soured the feelings we had when leaving the restaurant. I think it's still worth trying Prik Hom; I can't expect this is a common occurrence. The food was tasty and we enjoyed the dinner. Just be cautious with meats! read more
I enjoyed the delicious unique foods the other night. We ordered a few items that all tasted super fresh, and popping with flavor. The ambiance was chill, it was a small place but the art and stuff was different in a good way.The service was great & we enjoyed the restaurant. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish at Prik Hom! The host and server were attentive and thoughtful throughout our meal. Drinks: The jasmine rice iced tea was unique and enjoyable. The ultimate Thai tea wasn't all that different from a typical Thai tea but it was yummy! Appetizers: The fried chicken was some of the best I've had! Succulent, well-spiced, and with crispy skin. The Thai tempura had a nice mix of veggies and delicious sauce. Salad: We wanted something light and refreshing, and the passion fruit shrimp and mandarin delivered on both fronts! Soup: Tom ka is a favorite dish of mine. I loved Prik Hom's take on it because it was loaded with mushrooms and served with an excellent chili oil on the side. Entree: The star of the show was the beef green jungle curry! Delightfully spicy, a mix of textures due to the different meat preparations, and just plain tasty. We had it with the purple rice which was perfect. Dessert: We wanted to try both desserts but were too full so we settled on just the smoked coconut ice cream. I've never had anything like it! We dont make it over here much but im glad we did because this place is so good. Everything was suoer flavorful and not super spicy, but spicy to add character to the dish. Great ambiance and amazing service! Restaurant can be lively but not so deafening that I couldn't hear across the table. The flavors didn't disappoint, especially the house made curry. No options for spice levels and most of the dishes aren't spicy. Spiciest was the pork larb and they serve it with tomatoes macerated in a little fish sauce for acidity. The halibut was really dry and there's not enough curry to make up for the dryness. Also, I couldn't tell the difference between ultimate thai tea and regular thai tea. read more

Been meaning to try Prik Hom from when it first opened but was super hard to get a reservation in the past! Went on a Saturday dinner at 7pm and it was surprisingly not super packed and easy to make a reservation. We got the scallops which I do think is their best dish even though it is $8 per scallop. We also got the fried chicken, beef cheek panang curry, tomyum fish, eggplant, umami shrimp, and sides of rice and the Thai ice tea too. Also got the coconut icecream dessert! The food was all good, but nothing amazing or out of the ordinary (the best dish was the scallop though). Portion sizes were pretty small and do expect to spend around $60-90 pp here. We also found it was very echo-ey which made it difficult to talk even though the tables were pretty spread out and the ceilings weren't super low. Service was good however, but I don't think I'd come back anytime soon because of the steep cost. read more

If you are bored of having typical Thai food at every Thai restaurant, def recommend coming here! This place serves nothing like what you've known as Thai food! Newly opened and very creative with their dish. Price is high for small portion, but it might be worth if you appreciate the quality. Every food we ordered was carefully crafted and tasty. But not sure if i would pay $16 for two piece of scallops.. the restaurant is small so it can be loud from other tables but ambience and service was good. They change menu every 2~3months so I'm looking forward for more of their unique creation! read more

Pretty delicious Thai food! We knew we had to come try when it was on NYT restaurant list. The food quality was good but it was quite overpriced in my opinion. We went on a Friday night and didn't have a reservation. We didn't have to wait long though, we got seated quite quickly at the bar. The food was mostly good. I like the beef curry. It had a nice kick to it. The dishes are small, the waitress recommended that we get around 3-4 dishes for two people to share. The fried chicken was a bit on the dry side for my liking. The highlight was the dessert for me. It was quite interesting to see sweet pumpkin in a dessert. Overall, the food was decently good but the price is quite expensive. read more

Prik Hom is an unpretentious upscale Thai restaurant with unique and amazing food! Every dish was flavorful and presented beautifully. It's more expensive than your average Thai restaurant but the quality of the dishes and the ingredients are worth the price. We got the scallop and lemongrass, the grilled oyster mushroom salad, fried egg and brussel sprouts, curry cod in banana leaf, a side of jasmine rice, and both desserts, the grilled sweet pumpkin with thai custard and smoked young coconut ice cream. We enjoyed everything, all the dishes were delicious and unlike anything I've had before. Don't skip the desserts! I'm not usually a dessert person but these were so good. The service was also great! Very attentive and kind. When we asked if what we had ordered was enough for a table of 2, they recommended we get one more so we added the grilled oyster mushroom salad. With the salad, it was perfect amount of food! It was nice that their recommendation was honest and didn't try to upsell. I want to go back to try the tasting menu already! Definitely recommend booking a reservation online, it's a small spot so not much room for walk-ins during peak dinner times. read more

The food was delicious! They have a special summer menu and the banana banana was such a refreshing salad. The aromatic curry was fragrant and had interesting root vegetables, and we were glad we asked for the eggplant to be a lil spicy - it added to the flavor. The banana brûlée and Thai tea pudding was decent but wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to get it again. Overall great food, wonderful service, and perfect wine pairings. read more
I really enjoyed the food here. Wouldn't say it was amazing but really good. We ordered the scallops, the beef curry, and the spicy shrimp stirfry. The beef curry was very flavorful and actually spicy. It was very unique and different from anything I've tasted before. It was pretty cool how they put beef jerky in it mixed with the ground beef. Also, I really like the Thai eggplant. The scallops were good but definitely overpriced. It would've been nice if they brought out four instead of two. I also enjoyed the banana Brulé dessert. I would definitely come back here and try the duck curry. read more
I came to try Prik Hom with two friends and have to say while the food is good and solid, it was quite pricey for Thai food and not sure if it's a place I would come back to. The location is right off a bit street, so there's only street parking. While I managed to find one relatively close to the restaurant, I can imagine it being a bit challenging during peak dining hours. The restaurant is fairly small with cute and clean feel. Definitely got a cute date spot vibe. We ended up ordering quite a variety including scallops and lemongrass, fried chicken, Lotus and Jicama, red curry, spicy shrimp, and smoked coconut. I'd say all the dishes were actually really good - especially the scallop and lotus and shrimp dishes. However, I think for the price and portion, it was definitely quite expensive for thai food. Definitely a great place to check out if you don't mind the high price tag but I probably won't come back now that I've tried it once. read more

They have limited choices but those limited one would blow you out .. From appetizers to their Entrees are good .. Thanks to fellow yelpers . Without doubt their Crispy fried chicken and their Sour Pork Fried curry Rice is a must for us from now on. Their Aromatic Curry with Shrimp and Duck entry are a must try too. Came here with some friends and we did the set menu family style which has 10 items. I thought I might not like some of the dishes since we cannot pick which one, but surprisingly all of the food items were delicious! Miang Olive was just so delectable with the sweetness of the olive and the crunch of the sesame rice cracker, then the Beef Cheek Penang Curry was soo good, beef was so soft, the curry just the right amount of spice. Please come here. It was by far the best Thai food I have ever eaten, and possibly the best restaurant in general I have ever eaten at. Everything was incredibly flavorful, highlighting traditional Thai flavors like lemon grass, Thai chilis, and coconut. It look no longer than 5 minutes to get each dish, and prices are cheap for the quality you get. The black cod curry is a must. read more

I think Prik Hom is probably one of the best Thai places in town (and that's saying something since SF has an abundance of great Thai food). I saw it pop up as one of the hardest reservations to get and I couldn't overcome my FOMO. I booked a table about a month out and waited patiently for my reservation. It was definitely worth the wait. My friend and I tried scallops and lemongrass, crab meat khao soi shot, fried chicken, branzino yum, beef shank green curry, eggplant with basil, lychee popsicle and smoked young coconut ice cream. Everything was fabulous - the standouts for me were the khao soi shot, beef shank green curry and the eggplant with basil. Service was good but the place can get really busy. With tax and tip, this is a really good dinner for under $100. The restaurant itself is relatively small but I really like the neighborhood restaurant vibes here. It's really hard to get a reservation but I learned that you can call and they might open up a table for you. Highly, highly recommended!!! read more

I visited Prik Hom on a Thursday night and it was pretty busy inside - I would definitely recommend making a reservation. I really loved the atmosphere inside, it's a small restaurant that's lively and the staff was able to recommend some amazing dishes. The flavors were rich and I appreciated the quality ingredients. We started off with the scallops which were perfectly cooked. The beef in the curry was nice and tender with just the right amount of kick and was great with the purple rice. But for me, the star was the shrimp because of how the sauce paired with it. The only thing is portions tended to be on the smaller side as this was just the right amount of food for two people. However, Prik Hom is definitely worth trying at least once since it's very different from other Thai restaurants in SF. read more
Food: - Scallops and Lemongrass: by far the table's favorite dish of the night. If the $8 per scallop seems pricey, don't worry it's totally worth it. The scallops are cooked perfectly and the lemongrass perfectly balances the richness and umami of the scallop - Fried Chicken: solid crispy fried chicken! Fun appetizer for the table. - Som Tam and Fried Quail: I love papaya salad, but this wasn't it. It definitely could have used more of the dressing throughout. - Eggplant with basil: second favorite dish. I love eggplant and the wok hei just added a perfect depth of flavor for this dish - Beef Cheek Mussaman Curry: really tender, fall off the bone beef cheek paired with a flavorful curry. The curry is on the thinner side so definitely order some rice to pair with it! It's great to see another yummy Thai restaurant open in the city! I was able to secure a reservation after the 2 month hype wait resided and in fact, find that nowadays a reservation can be typically had a week in advance. It's an elevated Thai dining experience that is perfect for a catchup with friends or a dinner date. Definitely worth a visit at least once! read more

Prik Hom is a Thai restaurant on Geary Boulevard in the Laurel Heights neighborhood. It's the third Thai restaurant to be added to the Michelin guide for San Francisco, which was enough reason for me to try it, and it didn't disappoint. The restaurant's interior is small and simple but nice. Prik Hom means "aromatic chili" in the Thai language. The menu is à la carte. They also have a set menu, but you need 6 people to order it. I ordered two starters (they are small), one entree, and a dessert. * Scallops and lemongrass * Crab Meat Khao Soi Shot * Yellowtail with thick red curry, fingerroot, and hen of the wood mushrooms * Smoked young coconut ice cream, smoked with a traditional Thai candle Scallops and crab for starters, what more could you ask for? Khao Soi is a curry that combines crispy deep-fried and boiled rice noodles. The yellowtail was very good. They say their curry pastes are house-made, and indeed it was delicious. The coconut ice cream smoked with a traditional Thai candle was unique, and that's a good point. In summary, a great experience with fine and creative cuisine. read more
I love Thai food and Prik Hom absolutely blew me away! My boyfriend took me here as a surprise for my birthday and it was absolutely incredible. The servers were attentive and were great at highlighting dishes we couldn't miss. The food The small bites at the beginning (scallop & crab) absolutely cannot be missed, they're insane. The fried chicken is so flavorful although I didn't love how they had chopped up the pieces with the bones in them. The massaman curry was rich and flavorful and the carrots in the sauce had such a bright flavor. Dessert was stellar, not only was it beautiful but it was fresh, creamy and I want to eat it again as I'm writing this. Hard to get a reservation but absolutely worth it. read more
Overall really good Thai restaurant and not your average Pad Thai kind of place. It was named in top 50 restaurants in The NY Times list, which maybe set my expectations too high. Food: Menu changes every 3-4 months. Don't miss the Son Yum In Law (5/5) if it's on the menu. It's the most unique dish we had and just delicious. I don't know how they have the most delicate crispy fried whole egg while the egg is still a bit runny. The eggplant (5/5) was our favorite dish by far. Oxtail soup (3.5/5) was nice but I did not find it to be that flavorful and it was a rather small bowl of soup. The scallop (4/5) was good but wouldn't order it again at $8 per scallop. There were two desserts and we tried both. I thought the smoked coconut ice cream was delicious and creamy. The lychee popsicles sounded great and it was fine but did not wow me. It's also hard to share so just know that. Service: friendly and prompt. The only thing I didn't like after being there twice is that it seems like they are sales people, always upselling the scallops or the Thai teas to you no matter what. Ambiance: I do like that it's a small space. Nothing too special but that's ok. I was happy that it wasn't too loud or too dark. Just right. I am curious when their menu changes and will be keeping an eye out for another visit sometime. read more
Unpopular opinion: Overrated. With its recent recognition by the NYT and a mention on the Michelin Guide, Prik Hom has blown up. They open reservations 2 months in advance, I made one for January in November but saw one slot opened in December when I checked again two weeks after. Service seemed a little slow. 90 minute time limit felt short. Staff is not engaging, they do not offer any information except when they think you're not ordering enough. They'd tell you to order more, at least 4 items for 2 people, not including rice as it will be your 5th item. And so we ordered the following - **Hat Yai Fried Chicken - they served us RAW chicken. It happens I guess BUT the chicken comes chopped in small pieces. We saw it the moment it was put on the table, it was pretty visible had they only checked. Our server was apologetic and someone else from the kitchen came out to apologize as well after replacing it with a new one. Flavor was there however the chicken was dry. I liked the fried shallots on top. They need to figure out how to make that chicken moist though. **Yum Son-in-Law - the only thing I actually liked. 3 eggs with crispy edges, with some greens and Thai dressing. It was fresh, savory, creamy and tangy at the same time. **Halibut Curry - the housemade curry sauce was delicious with deep flavors of coconut base sauce. It was not spicy so the peppers are a must if you want some spice. I wish they'd put more because it was enough only to cover the plate as a bed for the fish. I felt like my tastebuds were being teased and yet it failed to give me a resounding finish. It was good while it lasted kinda moment. **Squid with Salted Egg Sauce - come on now. This had no salted egg flavor at all. It was more like a creamy scrambled or tempered regular egg turned into a sauce. The squid albeit cut into strips, was rubbery and chewy. No saving grace for this dish. **Jasmine Rice - yes, a separate paragraph for rice. Why? Because it was lumpy. Where are my rice lovers at? If you cook rice at home you'll get what I'm saying. It is that moment when your rice cooker hits Warm, Keep Warm or End and you immediately scoop rice out. That is exactly how I would describe it. I know it's only rice but please try to fluff it at least. The desserts sounded promising but I was so displeased that I thought it would be best not to order anything more that might aggravate an already bad experience. Plus, our 90 minutes was up. read more
