Service was my favorite part of brunch! The waitress/host working there that day was soo good to everyone. She was all alone and took care of all the tables. We enjoyed all of the food. My favorite was the shrimp toast and the pineapple bun pork cutlet sando (forgot the name but it's on there). Shrimp toast and the boba French toast are notable mentions. I recommend sharing the French toast as a dessert because it's a lot. We got it with the salted yolk custard and it was okay. Not pictured here is the pork over rice dish. I think the pickled veggies, rice and flavors were good, but the pork belly was so chewy. Also not pictured is the chicken wings. Our group liked it. I always enjoy eating at Piglet & Co. ;) I've enjoyed their honey walnut toast (their signature item), the szechuan wings that are dressed in mala honey and served with yuzu ranch, the loco moco (my favorite loco moco ever), milk tea french toast, the pork chop set, and fly's head just to name a few dishes. Oh, and you can't forget the milk tea bread pudding!! The woodear mushroom pickle is a great accompaniment for the rich, indulgent food. Chef Chris is always developing new and fun dishes to try - so you have to keep on coming! I heard steak frites are on the menu, so I need to go back asap. Marcelle, the GM, is always so welcoming at their spot in the Mission. The bar area features TVs that play old-school films, so you can enjoy your meal with a bit of nostalgic entertainment in the background. I've followed Piglet & Co since their pop up days. Having roots in Taiwan, it is great to see how the cuisine evolved with California produce and the changing palettes of immigrants and locals alike. It's hard to categorize Taiwanese food. Night market food is probably its most famous, but there is also breakfast food, banquet food, indigenous food and a bazillion other dishes partially inspired by all the Asian countries surrounding the island. Piglet & Co has taken the approach to infuse traditional Taiwanese breakfast with flavours commonly found around San Francisco, as well as spins on beloved Taiwanese snacks and drinks. If you come here with a big group (6+ people), just do yourself a favour and order at least one of everything on the menu. The items on the menu rotates over time; and it's often hard for me to pick. What I most often order is the shrimp toast (the best!!), perhaps a whole steamed fish during dinner service, with a side of mala sambal. Their salads, roasted cabbage or lu rou fan (braised pork rice) are crowd pleasers as well. For dessert, they often have boba on toast which is both decadent and dangerous. The bar has expanded somewhat recently into cocktails; and while I haven't indulged in too many of those yet, they do have a solid rotation of teas and beers on tap. This remains one of my favourite places to bring people to. True, you can get more authentic Taiwanese cuisine down in the South Bay, but the creativity and the precise style of preparation here cannot be beat. Been dying to try Piglet & co and it did not disappoint. Vibe of the restaurant is great and everyone was very nice. They had a high hair AND kid friendly plate / utensils / cup for my kiddo. We ordered a ton including the pickle party, the ribs, the shrimp toast, and a few others. We also ordered a side of their chili oil. The shrimp toast was so good we had wished we ordered one for each of us. The ribs and pork belly were perfectly cooked and delicious. The pickled wood ear mushrooms were ADDICTING. Been hearing a lot about Piglet since it opened so was happy to finally check it out for Sunday brunch. I made a reservation for our party of 4 a couple days before coming, but definitely didn't need it as it was pretty empty when we came. You need to provide your credit card info when making the reservation, so would recommend walking in for brunch. Decorations were nice inside with lanterns hanging from the ceiling and plenty of natural lighting. We ordered a couple items to share: Lu rou fan ($27) Pork cutlet sando ($24) Honey walnut shrimp and pork toast ($23) I felt like the food in general runs sweet here. Our favorite was definitely the shrimp and pork toast. The patty was super crispy and paired well with the slightly sweet walnuts. If only the portion was bigger! The lu rou fan was good as well, even though it was on the sweeter side and probably the sweetest version I've had of it. My least favorite was the pork katsu sando, which I thought it was too sweet. My vegetarian friend had the ginger scallion cheese bread ($13) as there weren't much options for him. I tried a bite of it and it was interesting. My mouth is watering writing this review! We popped in for an appetizer on my birthday and they did not disappoint. The honey walnut shrimp and pork toast will live in my heart until the day the good lord calls me home. If you go and only get this, you can die happy. The highlight of dinner was definitely the honey walnut shrimp & pork toast! The patty was crispy on the outside with a bouncy inner texture. The crunchy sweet walnuts and the creamy savory mayo sauce added complexity to the flavor. The chashao pork belly ssam was on the saltier side, but it balanced out well with the lettuce wrap and cabbage slaw. We wrapped some of our mushroom with it too. The pig face gravy noodle was quite heavy. The noodles were a bit too thick for my personal liking. The restaurant was busy on a Friday night. Came here without realizing it was SF restaurant week and was able to get reservations on Resy a day before dining in. Luckily, I was one of the several parties seated before the dinner rush. Food / Drink Taiwanese Hot Tea - Eastern Beauty If you like Oolong tea flavor profiles, I would recommend this tea! It was served piping hot with the tea bag in a Bodum double-wall glass with a cap over it. Charred Arrowhead Cabbage - $18 Two pieces of cabbage wedges were served and each had a nice char to it. The doubanijiang glaze was a bit too acidic and made the dish feel a bit like sautéed vegetables. Mala BBQ Pork Ribs - $18 Served with 2 pork ribs, it wasn't tender fall-off-the-bone as anticipated and contained several bones. It took some chewing and effort to eat the dish. Honey Walnut Shrimp & Pork Toast - $23 Served with two pieces - the panko fried pork, shrimp mousse, and candied walnuts paired very well with the honey mayo glaze. The wings were meaty with a light, crisp batter and subtle seasoning. The yuzu buttermilk ranch added a bright, tangy kick that tied the dish together. They provide complimentary wet towels to wipe your hands after eating and oranges when the bill is served. Customer Service My party was warmly greeted upon entering and seated shortly after. The staff accommodated my party with providing a high chair, a children's plate, utensils, and plastic water cup with a lid. The waiter provided helpful ordering tips for SF restaurant week. It became super busy with the dinner rush and every server was so kind and helpful throughout the dining experience! Location / Parking It's nestled along Mission Street. Fun new fusion spot. Great lovely atmosphere and nice staff. They were playing classic Asian action movies when I was there. The drink menu is pretty limited, I would say their cocktails were not special at all. The food menu is diverse! I loved seeing the bits of Asian fusion from different cultures. My favorite bite was the chashu bossam - that one is a MUST order. The scallop baked appetizer was delicious too. A lot of people are fans of the shrimp toast but I didn't think it was particularly special. I do appreciate the idea though. I think it would benefit from a creamier sauce to really pull everything together. I'd skip the Szechuan wings - they tasted like basic wings. There wasn't really any level of numbing spice. Booked a reservation for brunch. The restaurant had plenty of room, so I probably didn't need a reservation, I'm not sure if that's typical of weekend brunch, or if it was unusually empty because the Carnaval parade was happening outside - I didn't realize this until exiting the BART station into the crowd. Ordered the pickle party, szechuan honey wings, lu rou fan, honey walnut shrimp & pork toast, and the milk tea french toast to share for a group of four. Excellent meal. Standout elements were the wings, the pickled wood ear, the baklava-filling-ish "walnut relish" on the toast, and the texture of the boba on the french toast. The chef describes the menu as "Taiwanese inspired comfort food." After an incredibly filling and memorable meal, I can attest that Piglet & Co. is a warm hug personified. They take reservations, and they have a number of tables and bar seating. The menu is thoughtfully curated and meant to be shared - I would say "the more, the merrier" for a group meal here. My colleague and I split four dishes: the famous honey walnut shrimp toast, the pork stir fries, the dynamite scallops, and pigs head noodles. I would be very hard pressed to pick a favorite. A sucker for noodles, I loved the gravy and texture of the dish. The scallops were incredible - every morsel was consumed. I really wanted to like this place - I was so excited when I heard about it and the menu sounded fun, so I figured I'd try it even if I was by myself. The service was great - everybody was very nice and kind and the space is cute enough. However, I found the food pretty lacking / mediocre especially at a higher price point. I got the shrimp toast they were known for and it was decent but unfortunately not anything to write home about. I got the mala bbq pork rib and felt similarly about it. Maybe it's better if you have someone to share it with, but I've had plenty of meals alone and I think food ideally is so yummy you want to have a lot of it. When asked about what makes their chili oil unique, the staff was pretty clueless. Service needs work. The waitress was rude and dismissive. They never sent out the plates we ordered. Had they checked on our table even a single time, they would have noticed. All in all, this is an upscale modern Chinese restaurant that rinses as much money out of you as humanely possible. Piglet & Co is located in the heart of San Francisco's Mission District and offers a modern take on Asian comfort food. Their seasonal non-traditional menu is inspired by childhood memories, family meals, and beloved night market dishes straight from Taiwan. Piglet & Co first came onto my radar with their take on Taiwanese breakfast foods. One morning I finally woke up early enough to head over and sample their brunch offerings. The restaurant is not overly large but still boasts fairly ample seating - that being said reservations are recommended. We didn't make a reservation in advance; however, they were able to offer us bar seating, which we happily took. After perusing their menu for a few minutes, we went with their (1) ginger scallion milk bread (usually this is served on focaccia; however, on this day they ran out of focaccia and substituted it for fluffy Japanese milk bread), (2) honey walnut shrimp toast, (3) chicken rice porridge. The ginger scallion milk bread as light, fluffy, sweet, and savory all at the same time - what a perfect bite! Honestly I'm actually quite happy we got the try the dish with the milk bread substituted for the focaccia, as I felt the sweet fluffy taste/texture of the milk bread perfect offset the savory notes coming from the ginger and scallions on top. The honey walnut shrimp toast is a perfect example of how Piglet & Co puts a modern take on a traditional dish. At first glance, one might be a bit hesitant to give this one a try as it's so different from the traditional honey walnut shrimp dish that so many of us love; however, I encourage you to go out on a limb and give it a try! This dish was the shining star of our meal as the honey walnut shrimp flavors you expect still came through, just in a slightly different vehicle and atop a fluffy piece of bread - I would definitely return just to eat this one again! Last, but not last, the chicken rice porridge. This was probably my least favorite dish of the three that were ordered, and this really came down to the texture of the dish. I felt the "porridge" was really more of risotto and the texture was a bit too thick to be called a porridge; however, I can appreciate the flavors that went into the dish and still found it to be tasty overall. If you're the adventurous type and are seeking a modern take on traditional Asian breakfast dishes, then I highly recommend giving Piglet & Co a try! I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant, being Taiwanese myself and there being a lack of restaurants with Taiwanese flavors in the city. Unfortunately, Piglet & Co's self-described "inspired by childhood memories, meals shared with us by elders, and our favorite dishes from night markets and Taiwan" fell short. The menu item names were the only thing vaguely reminiscent of Taiwan, but the food itself, at least what I tried, did not taste good. They were playing old Jackie Chan movies on the large screen, which was a fun vibe. Recommend making a reservation, on a Friday evening we were just on the OpenTable waitlist, and a party of 2 just walked in before us but arrived without reservations, so the staff had saved a table for us and sat the other party at the bar. We ordered the following: Tomato & egg * This was definitely fusion, but didn't work well. The jolly tomatoes (cherry/grape) and the style they made the eggs were more fit for a western brunch omelette and tasted odd with the vaguely Asian-inspired seasonings and rice. Lu rou braised beans * This dish was incredibly salty and sweet at the same time. Overwhelmingly so that it cannot be eaten by itself, but there was no recommendation to order rice to go with it. The beans had a nice texture though. There were only a few tiny pieces of pork which may disappoint people who don't know what to expect going in. Luo buo gao chop salad * This was an interesting experience... we received the salad incompletely made and without the star of the show, the luo buo gao. It tasted like a caesar salad with the occasional piece of pork floss. It took a while for us to get someone's attention due to how busy they were, but when we informed the staff that it was missing the turnip cakes, they made a new salad for us. There was some attitude by the manager to the kitchen staff when they had to remake the salad. Unfortunately, the salad tasted even worse when we tried it as it was supposed to be. The roe topping made the entire salad way too fishy and the luo buo gao was dry, unflavorful, and texture was unpleasant. When we received the bill, we saw that they removed this item from the receipt. After trying these dishes, I was disappointed and not interested in seeing the dessert menu. I heard that this restaurant switches up the menu from time to time, so I recommend opting for the well-reviewed, tried and true options if you come here. read more

An underrated gem of a restaurant in San Francisco. Get the shrimp toast, binchotan grilled pork neck, and the pickle party! I first experienced food & hospitality from Chef Chris and Marcelle before they had a brick & mortar; they had catered a friend's wedding and it was the absolute best wedding food I'd ever had. When planning my own wedding this year, I immediately thought of their team. They were so flexible and great to work with, even with our unconventional vision of having hot pot at our wedding. We got tons of comments from our guests about it being some of the best hot pot they had ever had - super high quality vegetables and meats, and super delicious housemade broths and sauces. Loved the food at Piglet & Co! The shrimp and pork toast is to die for and a must order. The shrimp patty with ground pork paste on a light milk bread toast is the perfect combo. The pork belly ssam was also great, perfectly melt in your mouth and fun to wrap in lettuce and perilla leaves. We also got the beef noodle soup which was good with very tender beef but the soup itself was too sweet for my taste and we couldn't finish it. Finally we were tempted by dessert and the bread pudding with salted egg cream was good and a nice post meal treat. Coming from a Taiwanese American background, I was so happy to see familiar favorites like oyster pancakes, turnip cake, and taro puffs on the menu. The way they make it is so creative too. They put the turnip cakes in this delicious crunchy salad. And serve the oyster pancakes okonomiyaki style. Everything we ordered was so delicious. The focaccia was their take on green scallion pancakes and it tasted amazing. The interior is dimly lit with neon lighting, and a TV playing 80's films, giving the whole place a very retro romantic vibe. The honey walnut shrimp & pork toast was the standout dish and it really felt like an elevated version of the classic honey walnut shrimp served in Chinese restaurants. We also got the Szechuan honey wings (not much Szechuan peppercorn flavor), loco moco, and milk tea boba French toast. My pet peeve was that none of the dishes we ordered were convenient to eat with chopsticks, but the plates didn't come with utensils. Such a great restaurant in the mission. Every few weeks this fall they've been bringing back their El Chino pop-up menu (well parts of it) on Mondays for those of us fond of their initial business. This menu had our favorite item of yesteryear ... the glorious Taiwan taco. The Taiwan taco scallion pancake, egg, shoyu sauce and much more. I love the scallion pancake's flaky crust and also the tenderness of the egg. It's such a good pairing especially with the side sauces. They had on holiday movies the night we went so it was a really nice atmosphere to enjoy nice warming food on a cold winters night. The dishes are inspired by the Taiwanese night markets, but given a fusion update for Bay Area foodies! I absolutely loved their barbecue spare ribs, which were sweet and spicy. Their shrimp toast, was similar to a Japanese crochet over a piece of toast, drizzled with honey. The salad was another amazing dish: Yama imo, Japanese mountain yam, mixed greens with a delicious dressing. hmmmm i would say the food here is just okay. like everyone else, i had booked a reservation at 5:45 and walked into the restaurant where it was completely empty (always concerning). the wait staff is really kind though and was very polite which is a HUGE plus. the inside was a weird mixture of trendiness and also trying to be old and invoke that traditional taiwan to some extent, but I think part of the issue with this is the space and the location in the mission just felt a bit off. we got a few dishes, and I will say it feels very americanized as a meal, with a gentle (And only a gentlest) nod to taiwanese food, which i think is kind of a weird gesture personally. nothing is that dramatically stand out and you could find other better places (consider rabbit hole in south mission). i will say the menu design was very cute, so that i appreciated read more

The Restaurant Week menu ($75 pp without tax and tip) started off with their fall salad and pickles. Both were yummy and fun! The salad was fresh and flavorful, and who can say no to persimmon in salad. The pickles were fresh, crunchy, and tangy. The next course was a wing, and surprisingly, this was the highlight of the meal!! I'm not usually a wing fan and my friend really does not like chicken, but we both thoroughly enjoyed it to tell you how good it was! Fried to perfection, perfectly crisp without being greasy at all. The buttermilk yuzu ranch was bombbbb. And there side sauces (one hot, one more onion-y) paired great with the wing as well. Love this one! I would have loved to have more than one :) The main course was pork belly wraps and roasted squash. Everything was solid, and the pork especially was very tender and flavorful. I'll say I would have loved a bigger portion on this one. The amount of rice and pork felt like it could have easily been for one person, not two. Dessert was a kind of tofu pudding with berries. To be honest, this was a bit of a letdown for me personally. It tasted very much so like tofu, the texture was a bit gritty from the tofu as well, and it wasn't exactly a great finisher especially for a decently pricey meal. Piglet & Co has some good things going for it - like those wings! I think my experience might have been even better if I had ordered a la carte, as I would have been able to get only things that sounded idea to me and I imagine the portions would have been bigger (though that's just my guess). This place was busy. We came here with a reservation at the bar counter and got 3 dishes to share - the honey walnut shrimp toast was very good- crunchy, savory sweet. The pork char siu ssam was also delicious and super tender. The aioli sauce though i felt didn't really add much to the dish itself except creaminess. The pickled vegetable that came with the ssam balanced the fattiness of the pork and I think it would be even better if it's more sour. I recommend both the toast and the char siu dish! I was a bit disappointed with the luo buo gao salad. I love the salad but did not like the fried turnip cake. The turnip cake felt overfried in old oil and the texture of the cake tasted like a paste, which definitely didn't taste like canto-style turnip cake at dim sum restaurant. On top of that it's plastered with sooooo much white pepper. I understand that food here was fusion-y and creative and white pepper was used in traditional Taiwanese cuisine like popcorn chicken, but this combination just did not work for me. read more

Service and food were amazing! I went with a friend and ordered about 6 dishes, but I think 4 to 5 dishes would satisfy most groups of two people. The honey walnut toast is a staple but my favorites were probably the scallops, ribs, and woodear mushrooms. They said they change the menu seasonally, so expect some variation each time you go. You might want a reservation on the weekend, but we walked right in on a Thursday night without any issue and were seated right away. However, I expect this place will only grow in popularity, so never hurts to have a reservation just in case. read more

Piglet & Co is a lovely taiwanese fusion brunch spot with delicious unique dishes! When I went with friends we decided to get the milk tea french toast, and the honey szechuan wings both of which were absolutely delicious. The milk tea french toast was so tender and juicy with just the right amount of sweetness from the boba and brown sugar glaze topping it, and the szechuan wings were flaky and fall off the bone. I cannot recommend piglet & co enough! Definitely worth checking out! read more

Piglet & Co is one of my favorite new restaurants in the city! Their menu changes frequently, but some of my favorites include the honey walnut shrimp & pork toast and the chicken wings, which appear to be on their regular rotation. I once also had an amazing salad with turnip cake. They always have Big Trouble in little China playing on the TV. Highly recommend making a resy if you plan to come on a weekend. Service is always excellent. read more
