In the picture below... it's most drunk haha but it was a nice amount to taste and sip on. That smoked salmon crudo is SO GOOD. The citrus adds a nice brightness, and I think there was a hint of honey used in the vinaigrette. I was pleasantly surprised and it's easily the best smoked salmon dish I've had in a while! The wine was excellent as well. I was only in for about an hour, maybe an hour and a half before I moved on, but I got to hear regulars come in and greet the owner like old friends. There's a really cool vibe here, with great music and decor, so I really wished I lived closer to visit more often! As I was leaving, I did chat with the gentleman again (complimented him/the wine bar) and he said he hoped that I would come again as he is trying to work with his partners to add more to the menu (the regulars that came in were asking after the gumbo and the brunch, which they were not serving at the time). We were immediately told we needed to order quickly because of all the reservations coming in. Two different people continued to pressure us to order, and we definitely felt rushed. The restaurant was extremely noisy, which made it difficult to have a conversation. Communication was also challenging at times because of the combination of the noise and the staff's accents. I even asked the waiter if the kitchen was slow getting food out, and he said yes. We ordered drinks and salads but hadn't had enough time to really look over the menu before being asked again about our entrees. We said we'd be ready to order when our drinks arrived. They had Maui Waui beer on the menu, which is a favorite of mine, but unfortunately it was only available in a can and not on draft. I wish the menu had made that clear. We eventually ordered our entrees. We shared a beet salad and mushroom soup, and both were excellent. We really enjoyed them. One friend ordered a cup of soup rather than a bowl, but when the bowl arrived, he didn't say anything and figured it was their mistake and we wouldn't be charged for the larger portion. We were, however, charged for the bowl. As the evening went on, more tables filled up and the noise level became even worse. There was a very long wait between our salads and entrees. I noticed other tables also sitting for quite a while waiting for their food. What's interesting is that the restaurant never actually became full. Even when we left, there were several empty tables. For a relatively small restaurant with only around 14 tables, it seemed like they were struggling to maintain a reasonable level of service. At one point, my friend went over to the bar and was talking with the bartender about their specialty cocktails while our entrees were being delivered. He didn't realize the food had arrived. Instead of simply letting him know his food was there, the waiter told him, "Sit down," in what came across as unnecessarily rude and odd. The entrees themselves were good, so we had no complaints about the food. Unfortunately, the service continued to disappoint. It took quite a while for anyone to come back to our table, we had to ask a couple of times for the check. Then came the biggest issue. We reviewed the check and confirmed it was correct, but when the waiter ran our credit card, he charged us for someone else's, higher bill. He brought the receipt for us to sign, and we immediately pointed out the mistake. Instead of voiding the incorrect charge or refunding it and then charging the correct amount, they simply ran our card again for the correct amount. We were now left with two charges on our credit card. We asked for a receipt or confirmation showing that the incorrect charge had been refunded. We were told they couldn't provide one and that the credit would take a few days to appear. Hopefully it does, but not providing any documentation for a significant credit was disappointing. It's unfortunate because we really enjoyed the food and initially thought this could become a place we'd return to regularly. Unfortunately, the rushed service, long waits, lack of attention, and the way the credit-card mistake was handled left us very disappointed. The food was good, but the overall service and experience were not, and based on this experience, we won't be returning.
