Stopped here for a quick date night and the food was great! The staff were super friendly and great at recommending wines to go with out meal. We started with the warm goat cheese, and it was amazing! The tomatoes they used tasted delicious, and paired great with the bread and apples. We went here for our anniversary. Based on the reviews we decided to try this restaurant. I was very disappointed. The drinks were good but that was the only good thing about this place . Food was very average. I ordered the risotto, it was watery and bland. My husband ordered the lamb lollipops and polenta as an appetizer - it was extremely dry. He also ordered the pork chops with scalloped potatoes as the main, the sauce was watery. We are extremely disappointed with this place never going back here again. read more

Rosmarino is a new Italian restaurant in San Ramon. The restaurant is up-scald at a reasonable price. Staff is all helpful. The scallop entrée was perfectly prepared and nicely split for wife and I. All dishes complemented each other. Tables were all covered in white linens adding a nice elegance. The restaurant is small but executed with elegance. This used to be where Gianni was we decided to give it a try based on all the good reviews and it did not disappoint! We made reservation and was quickly seated. The interior was very nicely decorated, love the color combination and made us feel so warmth and cozy but the spacing between tables was a little tight. The service was as warm too and we really enjoyed our food... especially the dessert, Yum! So glad to have a good Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. Will be back for sure. read more

I tried Rosmarino for dinner while in the area for work. There used to be a nice Italian restaurant in this space, so I'm happy to see a new business has taken it over. The menu is not very large. Service: Server was nice and accommodated my off-menu asks (a side of penne ala vodka that wasn't on the menu and charged me for a kids pasta). Food: I ordered the Frutti de mare with salmon and the "side" of penne ala vodka. I enjoyed them both. The salmon on the Frutti de mare may have been a little under cooked, but I like the crispiness of the outside. It was a bit salty for my taste. The vegetables were tasty tossed in the pesto and champagne butter. I don't think they make their own pasta, but the penne was cooked al dente and the vodka sauce was pretty good. I do wish they served complimentary bread though. Overall I enjoyed my meal and would return to try something else another time. read more

Rosmarino opened where the old Gianni's was. And we loved Gianni's. So happy to report that Rosmarino offers the same taste and quality we had come to expect from Gianni's. The decor is updated, light and more sophisticated. Service is impeccable. We went in for a late dinner and it was just 2 people so didn't get to try a whole lot of dishes. The caprese salad take was excellent with peaches and the lasagna portion was big enough to satisfy our hunger pangs. When we walked in the restaurant without reservations and were pleasantly greeted by the staff. Eating at our odd hour, there were plenty of tables available. Today was our first visit to Rosmarino. Aubrey was wonderful and very helpful with our questions. We ordered the penne a la vodka, the kids rigatoni bolognese, and the clams and chicken fennel sausage. My son loved the bolognese--we must try the full serving of this dish next time! We realized that the restaurant has only been open for a month. Walking through the room, the whole restaurant looks spacious, modernized and freshly renovated. There is plenty of free parking in their private parking lot. read more

While driving by late at night, I noticed an "open" sign lit up in the new Rosmarino -- with little to no chance that they were still actually open, I opened the front door... and was greeted by the owners and their friends hosting their soft open- their FIRST night! With open arms, they seated me despite the late hours, and from start to finish I had one of the most memorable meals of my life. I ordered: short ribs and the scallops: AMAZING! Both were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Cesar salad: YUM. They use real anchovies! A dirty martini: One of the best I've ever had! What stood out more than anything was the amazing and warm atmosphere that was created with Rosmarino-- all of the owners and staff were above and beyond passionate and kind, and all of the interior work is beautiful and warm. I was excited to come back, and returned about a month later. This time we tried the lasagna and the linguine and clams- I wouldn't order the lasagna again (personally found it to be too soggy, and I don't love zucchini in my lasagna), but the linguine and clams was DELICIOUS. How lucky am I to live near this place. I read the Yelp reviews and just had to try this place. The focaccia bread was crisp and sweet which came with the oil and vinegar, perfection. The warm olives were also delicious. Our mains were Spaghetti Carciofo, it was very light and zesty and the chicken was tender. The lasagna was so cheesy and had the right amount of vegetables. The rigatoni bolognese was al dente and delicious but I wished it had more sauce. Everything came out piping hot, just the way it's supposed to be! Rosnarino is a restaurant serving Italian food located at where Gianni's used to be. When Gianni's closed, I was definitely a tad sad but I'm glad another restaurant that is similar in quality replaced it. The overall menu is what you would expect from a restaurant like this. They do offer a good range of cocktail and drinks and they definitely packed a punch. The salmon pasta I ordered was very rich and full of flavor. My wife ordered a dish (forgot the name) was quite delicious as well. Lastly we finished off with a goat cheese bread dip and that was rich and creamy. Made a reservation for this restaurant for a belated Valentines dinner. When we pulled up to the parking lot, it looked familiar and I realized we had been here before. It's nice and cozy on the inside and the staff is friendly. We had bread to start which was warm and toasted. My husband liked his salmon and pasta dish as well as his chopped salad, though it was nothing he raved about. I was looking forward to my entree, the polenta and shrimp, but I was disappointed. Though there was an abundance of shrimp, the polenta presentation was almost non-existent. It was drowned in some kind of broth, and therefore the polenta was almost like a soup, what with little polenta that was on the plate. I've seen there is quite a lot of favorable reviews so I expected more. I can't say what we ordered the first time we were here, but obviously it wasn't a memorable experience. My wife and I were in the area visiting friends and selected Rosmarino based on the Yelp reviews. So much so we cancelled a reservation elsewhere as this was closer to our hotel and the reviews were awesome. What a mistake! We eat out a lot and this was, without doubt, the worst Italian restaurant we have ever eaten in. Service was friendly, atmosphere pleasant, but the food. My wife ordered eggplant. She had to cut it with a steak knife and was up half the night with an upset stomach. She told the server about her food allergies to shellfish as she always does and when he brought the food he made a joke about there not being too much fish in the meal. That is not something to joke about with someone who almost died twice because of it. I ordered the spaghetti with artichokes and chicken. Unremarkable and bland. We came on a Saturday and whoever was the chef should be run out of town. I'd be embarrassed to serve food like this. I also question the validity of the positive reviews or the judgement of the locals who choose to eat here especially when you consider all the other options nearby. This place is definitely not ready for prime time in the San Ramon Valley. We were walk-in's w/o reservations. The place had plenty of available tables with only a few people eating. Greeter was very abrupt and rude. When the waiter came to show us to a table the greeter had a disagreement with the waitress about where to seat us in a demeaning tone. Waitress adopted the greeters tone while serving and when our dinners arrived my wife's dinner of chicken and artichoke hearts arrived with on small breast sliced into three very thin pieces and four untrimmed chokes which she had to time herself. I also had a chicken dinner which was mediocre at best. Had to ask for water and salt and pepper during the serving which came about 10 minutes later. Not a happy or enjoyable experience here ! 4.5 stars for the food, 2 stars for the service. When this restaurant was Gianni's, we came here all the time. From the first time we went to Gianni's, the staff treated us like old friends. Everyone was warm and welcoming. The menu had some less common, interesting but traditional Italian items. We came to Rosmarino hoping for the same. First off, the food- the Caesar salad was good except for the below issue. The warm goat cheese appetizer with tomatoes and apples on crostini, penne alla vodka with salmon, and rigatoni bolognese were all excellent. The tiramisu had very little rum so it tasted more like a good moist cake but not very tiramisu-like with light cocoa on top instead of dark. The menu was pretty basic; nothing very interesting like Gianni's had. Gianni's had some interesting old-school Italian dishes. I know they were very busy tonight on a Wednesday (with holiday dinners), but some things cannot be attributed to that. First off, other tables got a carafe of water, but we did not. We had to ask for refills. We split a Caesar salad and asked for the anchovies on the side (because I don't like them). It came with anchovies mixed in the salad on each plate. I took mine out and put it on a plate to give to my husband who loves them. Without asking, someone came over and took away the plate! We called someone over and told them what happened . They brought a little cup of anchovies for my husband. But then I didn't have a plate for my appetizer. I asked for an appetizer plate and they were about to take my husband's appetizer plate away and we had to stop them! Why would they do that when they had just served the warm goat cheese dish? Finally I got an appetizer plate. When we got our pasta dishes, I had to ask for some pepper. There are no pepper or salt shakers on the tables. They came with a pepper grinder but they did not offer parmesan as most Italian restaurants do with pasta dishes. Half way through our meal, they came to ask if we wanted parmesan. We said yes, and they brought us a little cup of Parmesan, instead of grating it at the table. At the beginning, when I was trying to choose my cocktail, I was asking for something not very sweet. The server kept pointing to cocktails and saying "that's light". I was I don't need light, I just don't want sweet. I asked if they had an old-fashioned but they don't. That should tell her that I am not looking for light. I settled on something that she said was dry (with elderflower liqueur and a dry champagne). She brought it, set it down, and said "tell me how you like it" and when I was about to ask her to bring some ice for the water, she had already flipped her head around and walked away really fast. Later she asked how it was and I said it was a weak pour (didn't taste anything and I'm a lightweight). The bartender came over and offered to add more champagne, and said she didn't put much because the server said I wanted it light and not fruity. I said - I never said light, and she had told me it was a dry champagne, not fruity. For the rest of the night, for the appetizers and entrees, another server helped us because I think the bartender (who seemed like the manager) could tell we didn't like the first server (woman with light brown long ponytail) who was very short and abrupt with her answers. Later when this server with the long ponytail was coming out of the kitchen with two dishes in her hands, she flipped her head around to talk to someone behind her and her ponytail flipped into one of the dishes - gross! I know this restaurant is new so I hope they can work out the kinks which is mostly in the service. The staff needs to *listen* to what people are saying. And please add some more interesting dishes. read more

I've seen a few restaurants come and go in this location in San Ramon, but Rosmarino is by far the BEST!! The atmosphere in the restaurant is beautiful and the service was excellent, not to mention the preparation and quality of their food. I could not help but eat everything on my plate as it was so delicious as was my partner's food. The owner, who is also the chef, came out and spent 15 minutes at our table talking to us and sharing a glass of wine and he explained the pride he has in his restaurant and in preparing food that is sure to please. He definitely accomplished his goal. Would highly recommend and will be returning, especially to his Italian wine pairing night April 29th. read more
