    22 oz ribeye
    Karen F.

My wife and I were lucky enough to get two seats at the bar, as the restaurant was completely booked for the following week. It has a great atmosphere and a fantastic beachfront location. My wife ordered the surf and turf, which included an 8-ounce filet and a 7-ounce lobster tail, while I went with the 22-ounce ribeye. Both steaks were cooked perfectly to our requested temperatures. Every meal also comes with a fresh salad and a complimentary dessert, which was a nice touch. Overall, everything was excellent. The only downside was the service, which wasn't as attentive as we had hoped. At times, it seemed like the staff was more focused on the soccer game playing on the televisions than on their tables. Despite that, we had a great dining experience and would definitely return.

Salmon with rub after I asked it to be simply prepared

Healthy eater beware!!!!! Food is all premade slop. I asked for my salmon to be simply prepared with only olive oil. It was already premade with butter and some gross salt rub. We got a side of "grilled" vegetables and mushrooms it was vial we didn't eat it. The vegetables were NOT grilled they were cooked in probably canola oil. I felt like I was eating Sysco premade food that you would eat in a cafeteria soaked in oil. Walk down the street and go to a different restaurant. Really not good! To add insult to injury the waitress we had was annoyed and caught off guard I asked for simply prepared **spoiler alert everything is prepared in advance panickkkk mode". Ambiance not there. Overpriced, oil soaked slop - please avoid.

One of our favorite restaurants, period! We come here monthly for dinner, always bring family/friends, and celebrate events/holidays. When I say this is the best steak and lobster I've ever had, that is the honest truth. The lobster is from South Africa which is sweeter, paired with drawn butter. The barrel cut steak has the perfect taste. The salad and dessert Mia decides to make that day is always incredible! The service is attentive and makes you feel like family. The ambiance is excellent as you sit right on the beach and have water views. If you can't get a reservation, they have a first-come seating bar area. Also BYOB! I cannot say enough good things about this place. It's truly special. You will not be disappointed!!!

Had a really nice dinner here last week. Service was attentive and the décor was chick and inviting. Unfortunately we arrived after dark so we couldn't see the much lauded ocean view. Food was excellent. Steak was cooked to perfection over a wood fired grill giving it a perfect sear. The restaurant isn't cheap by any means and the $20 plate sharing for a massive $80 steak that I assume is usually shared by more than one person is annoying. I also took exception that an additional shot glass sized steak sauce was $6. Delicious salad and dessert is included as is service of amazing piping hot bread. When visiting Cape May if you're in the mood for a truly delicious meal, if cost isn't an issue, I highly recommend you give them a spin. You won't be disappointed.

Gorgeous Waterfront, Excellent Service. Primal by Mia in Cape May offers stunning waterfront views and takes reservations -- a big plus! Our three appetizers were delicious and beautifully presented, and the complimentary salad was a pleasant surprise. The Chilean seabass was perfectly cooked, and the steaks. The steaks all came out medium well instead of one medium rare. I'd suggest going lighter on the salt, especially in the mashed potatoes & fish. Service was flawless -- our waitress was attentive and friendly, and presentation was 5-star. The cakes for dessert were the perfect sweet ending. Highly recommend for a memorable meal by the water!

Primal by Mia was a great experience. The steaks were absolutely delicious--perfectly cooked and seasoned. The staff was warm and attentive, and the views were wonderful. Every dish we had was excellent. Highly recommend!

Absolutely incredible. Food is wonderful and artfully presented. The salad and dressing were the best. Wood fired filet with truffle mashed potatoes were beyond belief. Dessert was imaginative. The price point was very reasonable considering the inclusions.... homemade bread with two dipping sauces, a large salad and dessert. Service was impeccable. Beautiful surroundings with ocean and beach views. Primal is an absolute must visit!

Came to Primal for dinner during a July weeklong vacation with friends. Happy to report the meal, the location, the ambiance, all lead to a fantastic spot to check out. The entire staff was extremely kind & helpful, food was delicious.

WOW! What an amazing spot. Now I see why a reservation is so tough to get here. If you don't already know, they open reservations 10 days out and they're completely booked within minutes. Totally worth the wait though! The food was absolutely incredible. Every dish felt so fresh and full of flavor. And the special dessert that's included? Truly the perfect finishing touch, unique and delicious. We left already talking about when we can come back. Highly recommend this place if you get the chance to snag a reservation!

Our first visit to Primal was for my wife's birthday. It was so good that we returned last night for our anniversary. Ambience, service and food are all first rate. It's now our favorite restaurant.

We've been following chef Mia for over 10 years and she does not disappoint. The restaurant feels cozy, rustic, yet elevated. The menu is on the smaller side which is nice. We sat ocean view and started off with their fresh bread and complimentary salad (perfect portion for 3). Skipped apps this time, but ordered the 6 oz filet paired with an Alaskan lobster tail. I'm super picky with lobster in general because i have a weird texture thing. However, this was the consistency of crab which I love! 10/10 would recommend this dish. My mom got the Chilean sea bass and it was also 10/10. My dad got the NY strip(not pictured) but was also raved about it! The mashed potatoes are also a MUST!!!! They are fantastic!!!! Ended the meal with a complimentary dessert (such a nice touch!). Our server was Trey - he was fantastic. Did not try to upsell and offered honest opinions on what he liked/didn't like. Again, Mia does not disappoint. If you are in cape may or near-this is a must go too!

Reservations seem highly recommended because it seems most people came here with one. It's fine dining (price-wise - very reasonable for fine dining). It's also BYOB -- like the name says. I loved every moment of this. Service was very attentive and professional. I did feel worried that I was a bit underdressed because I had tennis shoes on, but it was not an issue. It is not a huge restaurant, but it's elegant and definitely meant more as a special night out than a casual spot. If you are looking for seafood options, look no further than here. If you want to impress someone, take them here. Now, onto the food. The bread is complimentary and we ate it all (along with our refill). The butter was freshly made, I believe. I had the winter prix fixe menu and my sister ordered à la carte. Their prix fixe and tasting menus tend to change quite often so it'll always be interesting. My sister ordered the Spanish octopus (1st course) and the Scottish Salmon. I had some of her octopus and salmon. They were both such well-made dishes. We would definitely order the octopus again. Chewy and delicate. I had the arancini, fra diavolo, and the chocolate tart. It was absolutely delicious. The arancini were small, but it was still well filled with tiny bites of clam. The fra diavolo was also very good and filling. Plenty of seafood to go around in that dish. Spicy too, which I like. At the end, we shared a chocolate tart -- and I must say, we were already full at this point. The chocolate was rich and the pistachio ice cream was perfect. We will definitely be back.

We started with the caprese salad, which was fresh and exactly what you want from a starter, followed by the summer corn soup, which was comforting without feeling heavy. The standout was the special New York strip. It arrived beautifully cooked, tender and flavorful. Service was equally strong by being attentive without being overbearing. The one misstep was the rigatoni, essentially a truffle mac and cheese with mushrooms and shaved truffles. On paper, it sounded promising, especially paired with a steak. In practice, it was overwhelmed by garlic to the point that the garlic eclipsed nearly everything else. There was also surprisingly little rigatoni pasta; the dish was dominated by mushrooms. We wouldn't order the pasta again, but that's a relatively minor complaint for an otherwise excellent meal. Grana is absolutely worth a return visit and there's plenty on the menu that we'd happily order again. It gets a relatively older crowd, but I don't mind if that food is good.

Service by Mickey was wonderful. She was honest, helpful, attentive, let us set the pace, and made our visit great. On to the food. We began with a cucumber, gimlet, and a Hendrix martini. Both were delicious. For appetizers, we have the deviled eggs, Heirloom tomato and melon salad, and the unbelievably delicious Parker House rolls (4 for $8). The deviled eggs ($15) were some of the best we've had but come only three halves to an order (each topped differently, duck, lobster, Cherry). The salad ($20) was OK, but honestly a little bland. I don't think I would order it again. And I highly recommend the rolls and the eggs though. For entrées, my wife had the Cape May Scallops ($49) which were fantastic. I had the duck appetizer ($32) for my entrée. The sliced duck breast was more than enough and very tasty. My only complaint was it wasn't cooked medium rare as stated, it was cooked all the way to medium, which was only a little pink. Still it was delicious. The restaurant is in a super busy area, and easy to miss but has a parking lot accessible from one direction only based on traffic. It wasn't packed inside at lunch, since we arrived after 2pm. Dispensing with beverages and appetizers, we ordered our entrees right away. Husband chose the boat ramp tacos with blackened fish ($2 upcharge for blackened). On flour tortillas, there were three nice fish tacos with a little lettuce and tomato topped with a spicy drizzle of Baja sauce. Chips (thick and crunchy) and a green salsa rounded out the plate. He was happy! Although I knew I wanted to try the gluten-free shrimp and crab cakes entree, I found out at lunch time they do not have the herbed polenta mentioned on the menu. I discussed my various side options with the server, and decided on the mashed sweet potato instead and the seasonal veggies were green beans, a favorite. This was a stellar entree and very healthy to boot. I didn't care for the bland yellow pepper aoli that came with this dish. The crab and shrimp cakes had a nice texture, and were much better after I got some zingy red cocktail sauce to go with them! Very pleased with my dish. We paid our bill and got back on the road quickly, but wanted to memorialize the occasion with a positive review. Definitely worth coming back for another meal here!

The spaces are fairly narrow, though, so be careful to park fully between the white lines. If you come in through the back entrance near the bar, you'll need to turn right and walk all the way to the front to find the hostess stand. The bar-area staff seemed a little annoyed when people asked where the hostess stand or restrooms were, although I imagine they probably get those questions often. The hostess was pleasant and seated us promptly. One note for anyone who tends to get cold: bring a cardigan or light jacket. There was a floor vent right beside our table, and I got pretty chilly as the evening went on. The menu offered a wide range of options, from pork chops and duck to salmon, but I was not especially excited by many of the pairings. I started with the crab soup and ordered the blackened sea bass special with coconut rice for my entrée. For the table, we shared the bang bang shrimp and burrata. Both were adequately portioned for our party of five. The bang bang shrimp had the right amount of heat, and the burrata was a nice combination of warm pita bread, portobello mushroom, cooked red peppers, fresh greens, and burrata. I would recommend both appetizers. My crab soup arrived hot and was perfectly seasoned. The spice level was just right, and I liked the balance of small strips of crab throughout, along with a few larger pieces. In my opinion, it had an excellent ratio of crab meat, vegetables, and broth. Unfortunately, the entrées were less impressive. They were all beautifully presented--colorful and nicely portioned--but the flavors left something to be desired. My sea bass was certainly blackened, but I would have enjoyed it much more if the skin had been crisp. Instead, it was soggy, likely because it was placed directly on top of the coconut rice, which also became soggy. The mango pieces were larger than necessary, and there was far too much of the tomato, green pepper, and onion mixture on top. At $46, I expected more in terms of flavor. On a positive note, our waitress was friendly and professional, and the young man who brought out our food was pleasant as well. The food also arrived quickly. Since this was my first visit to the area, I would like to explore other local restaurants before returning. Still, I would not be opposed to giving Oyster Bay Restaurant & Bar another chance and trying a different entrée--possibly the swordfish.

The carrots it came with seemed boiled and again relatively flavorless. My husband had the sea bass but unless you got some of the very minimal sauce it was plated with, it was fairly bland. I didn't even sense salt and pepper. For the price point, I wouldn't rush back for dinner but might try another meal.
