Have you tried the breakfast sando? Forget about the drinks! (that's a joke) but I have definitely started choosing coffee shops based on their savory food offerings and that breakfast sando is *chef's kiss*. Arrive early so you can upgrade to a freshly made croissant since they have those in limited batches. As for the drinks themselves, I was happy with my unsweetened matcha which should always be a standard and my partner said the coffee was very delicious. I also had an enjoyable experience just sitting down the shop with the amount of thoughtful tchotchke's they had plus you could also purchase a hand-made ceramic mug. I love it when I am not looking at a boring white wall when I spend my time relaxing in the morning with a caffeinated drink. Would recommend, don't let the line you may see fool you, they make the drinks rather quickly! read more

So happy we found this place! Great customer service. Super friendly and great at listening to modifications that was needed. They were open to modifying the drink to what you needed. They make their own creamer that was so good! They also make their own chai that is ginger forward. Luckily for me, I love ginger so he dirty chai I had was perfect. Absolutely amazing. I would 100% come back and I intend to! Otherwise, the space inside is cute, cozy, and clean. There is a parking lot so they have plenty of parking. I definitely recommend coming here when you're in the area and need a pick me up! read more

Chill local vibes. Breakfast sandwich is amazing. They make it fresh, so if you're in a rush maybe grab a bagel or something else. But worth the wait if you're having a relaxed morning. Great espresso! And the workers were really nice and polite. Great service. read more

Great spot with a cool little hip vibe. Super quaint. Had just exemplary service from Gilene (not sure if I'm getting the name and spelling correct) and Bailey. Had a lavender mocha drink 1/2 sweet - was made perfectly and not too sweet. Also ordered a breakfast sandwich. Very kind, considerate, and compassionate staff. read more

We lived their breakfast sandwiches! If you're looking for something different go visit. Coffee was top-notch as well amd the service super friendly. Not too much table space when we went for my daughter's birthday, some got ours to go. Will.be back for sure. read more

Cozy and cute little coffee shop in a strip mall. My family is so glad we ventured here during our time in Boise! Service was friendly and nice. Husband and I got a breakfast sandwich. The egg is served poached but can be served as hard boiled if requested (thank you!). They had run out of their good bread, so we just got sliced sandwich bread (my advice would be to expect this if you are getting the breakfast sandwich during lunch hours). The sandwich itself was delicious and had lots of layers and a kick of spice with the Chipotle sauce. Would definitely order again! Oh, and the primal latte is DELICIOUS! Bitter, poorly made Americano. I don't know it the shot was a bad pull. And the barista was new, but Americanos are pretty basic. My friend threw out her latte as well. I know Primal is a neighborhood favorite. My other friend had a salad that looked amazing- maybe we will return for lunch next time, but coffee if off the list.... read more

UUUUggghhhh. Honestly, I already am annoyed with myself for writing this review...But I also know if I don't, I will not be able to stop pouting about my discord over this place. I will start with the positive...Primal Coffee truly has the best coffee in Boise. I am often disappointed with artisan coffees, and that was not the case here. Lots of options - both standard and unique - to fit one's preferences. Although small, the shop is cozy and hip. If they were open later, I could see myself frequenting this place several times a week after work. But. Here's what is causing my resentment - I have now been to Primal 4 times - and each time I have been treated like I came in off the street not to order coffee, but to demand the employees help me change all 4 of my car tires - wearing only hatfuls of bees. The last time I was there, no one greeted me or asked me for my order; only stared at me from behind the counter with an eyebrow raised awaiting my request. Again...I felt like my mere presence was causing him to want to reach over and pinch me as hard as he could. I found myself apologizing to him...but I'm not sure what I was sorry for? Patronizing the establishment? Isn't that a good thing? The coffee is good enough that I will go back. I'm just disappointed that I leave feeling like I just interrupted a party I wasn't invited to. read more

Great homemade Chai!!!! Really, really, really yummy!! Good spice, warm, rich and creamy the whole way through. Real nice neighborhood vibe. Cozy. Not sure why it took me so long to get here - they had been open 8 months by this point! But thanks to a reminder and a friend's gift card I finally went, and it was not a disappointment! It's slightly hidden if you don't know it's there - like diagonal across the street from STIL. My favorite marker moving forward is the rad Datsun truck that says "not powered by Dutch Bros." The vibe inside is exactly my favorite aesthetic - chill, industrial with exposed wood and some piping. It's very speakeasy and has its own unique accents with the guitars for sale, as it's also part music store. The seating is so cool too - there's tables per usual but also this corner area that's cozy and also makes sense for the space. Lots to look at too, which my one-year-old loved. So get the primal coffee, which legit every person can in after me said to get or got for themselves. If you're more a latte gal, get the vegan primal latte. The housemade cream is oat milk-based and DELICIOUS. I didn't get food this time, so this review is based on drink and ambiance. The baristas/founder were so chill too. You can tell they value their patrons, know coffee, and respect the craft. I think they're at the Saturday market too, so I'll catch them there as well. Will definitely go back - don't sleep on this place! Also, Yelp says they're closed Sundays but their hours on the door said 8-1:30 Sundays! read more

Not a safe space due to a very agressive and harassing owner. This business does not follow best business practices, such as: Primal Coffee does not post all their prices. Primal Coffee seems,to charge inaccurately as an intentional practice. Primal Coffee does not treat every customer equitably, and seems to intentionally engage in selective bullying, passauve agressive and directly agressive, abd harassing behavior of select individuals. Ive personally experienced very negative behavior from the Owner and workers of this business simply due to trying to understanding what the accurate price of a coffee was in their shop. They overcharged me for over 6 months, and once I started to write a review, they engaged 8n personal attacks, and other very juvenile behavior. I cannit emphasis enough to the Boise Community to stay away from this owner and Shop for your own safety and Wellbeing. read more

It's always a treat when you get to visit the spot you wonder about but have to keep passing up due to always having somewhere to be. But Primal Coffee is a place to just BE. And once I got there, I'll keep getting there. The coffee is inventive and curated. I like my coffee black but even I appreciate the uniqueness of the namesake coffee. Primal coffee has condensed milk in it and boy am I glad that's made the leap from coffee relegated to other cuisines and landed in Boise. Decor is eclectic and calming. The space is small but cozy. Be warned that if you roll in on a Saturday morning you'll have a lot of company. They serve coffee in specialty mugs. The owner makes his own chai that's ginger-forward in a wild way. Service is quick and friendly. The purveyor will explain menu items and may even surprise you with a taste test. If you want to keep your coffee joint local, Primal is it. read more

Best chai ever. Spicy and orangey and soooooo good. The barista was very kind. We arrived about 30 minutes before they closed, but the service still went above and beyond. The shop is very cool also. Lots of plants, guitars on the wall, local stuff on the bulletin board, local goods and handmade mugs for sale. Will definitely be returning on our next Boise visit. read more

Primal Coffee is off the charts for quality and deliciousness with everything they do. They bring the highest integrity, intention and sincerity to everything they do. The coffee is the most delicious i've ever had. Ever. I travel from Portland, OR to Arizona and back a few times a year and found Primal Coffee last year. The place is a dream come true. Everything they serve is the highest quality. The people are lovely and helpful. Yesterday I had the avocado toast with extra tomatoes and it was a revelation on their perfectly toasted French bread. I'm not a sweet person but the cheese danish was insistently calling me so I bought it. Astounding! I never experienced anything like it! It was perfect perfectly and shockingly not sweet.! I think it was an asiago danish and was remarkable as was the exceptional Kouign-aman (croissant like pastry) that my son had. Came here for the highly recommended avo toast - however, Avo toast on plain white bread no seasoning no Olive oil nothing (not even seasoned despite asking and also side conversation about adding oil oil and seasoning) and very sparse serving of Uber thinly sliced avocado; disappointing server at register - smile, be personable even when I asked how his day was going to cheer him up; latte was just ok, a charming shop that could def. do better read more

Best coffee and food in town! It's like a big hug in a cup. I also love how primal coffee supports local artist, musicians and events. I have been here so many times where traveling musicians come in and stay a while. They also have extra seating two doors down in their lovely music room, great vibe! Many people who work hear are musicians. Primal coffee workers are so kind and helpful. I love to spend my mornings here, a great place to meet new friends and connect with what is happening in the music community. Their house made creamer is absolutely delicious! read more

Like this little coffee shop but soooo disappointed they've decided to close early on Sundays--blaming "the kava people" who apparently used to take over Sundays after 4pm. I was never aware that the shop was run by a different group on Sundays, I just knew they were warm and welcoming and equated that with Primal Coffee. So, I'll take my Sunday afternoon coffee shop visit across the street to Push & Pour instead--as well as my weekday random stop-ins. I hope they reconsider and stay open until at least 6pm on Sundays! read more

My daughter is a coffee (shop) nut and has drug me (willingly) to every coffee joint in town, and Boise has a lot of good ones (Push n pour, Slo by Slo, etc) but this one has become a favorite. Don't be fooled by the (lack of) front ambiance in this run down old office strip, if my D hadn't made me I would have never ventured in and found my favorite coffee and breakfast. The flavoring they put in the coffee and latte's is called Primal and it is the perfect amount of sweetness and cream. Find the biggest homemade mug and fill it up. And while the breakfast sandwich is great, and pastries excellent, it is the avocado sandwich which brings us back time and again. Like the front of the shop, it ain't much to look at - a bit thin? - but, damn it is the perfect balance of flavors. You don't need a two inch piece of toast piled with way too much green goo, you need this unassuming creation. Don't know who the owners are but they need to expand, preferably in my neighborhood! read more

Hmmm, I was looking forward to try this place 4 the 1st time. I'm definitely not planning 2 return. This is the avocado toast which I can definitely do better @ home. I bet their coffee is better based on previous reviews. Yeah, besides that, I didn't felt welcomed that's why I ordered to go. Staff are pretty picky with the ppl they decide to treat nicely. Primal has become my almost daily stop, the lattes are delicious and the breakfast sandwich on ham and Swiss is heaven. (One of the best I've ever had) Normally the staff has been awesome and generally made quality drinks and food. Sadly today... the barista and the cashier had some serious attitude and made me feel (a daily regular) like I wasn't supposed to be here. In addition the first latte was so hot it would have given me third degree burns in my mouth had I tried to consume it, so I sweetly requested the second to be less scalding as I was taking the first to my mom, but drinking the latter in house. The barista was incredibly rude & clearly didn't appreciate the request then served me a literal luke warm latte. In addition just slammed doors cups and objects around the whole time I was waiting for my food. I don't think it's overly critical to say that latte temperature is almost the entire job. Made my experience today question my daily business. I love this place. And want to give 5 stars. But consistency respect and quality are needed to deserve such a high rating. *the staff changes daily and most of them have been super friendly and well skilled in latte making read more

Amazing!!! Amazing service, amazing primal coffee, amazing pastries and breakfast sandwiches! We saw this place on yelp when looking for coffee on our way though Boise. We tried the primal coffee and it was so delicious we ordered a second one before we hit the road. I was able to get a non diary iced version of the drink. The breakfast sandwich was out of this world good, one I seriously won't forget. Pastry assortment was lovely and the couple we tried were delish. Primal coffee is a hidden gem tucked away in the Boise bench off of Latah. From the looks of it on the outside, you would find that maybe this wouldn't be anything special. But that is far from the truth. Primal coffee hits it out of the park with every single menu item from the drinks to the food. What I appreciate most about this small coffee shop is that they really take the time to handcraft some beautiful breakfast sandwiches. What coffee shop poaches their eggs to perfection? Where else can you go that makes a breakfast sandwich with a few dashes of Tabasco sauce to complement the cream cheese and adds a little extra flavor. It's the little touches that feel like someone really well thought out these sandwiches. It may take a little bit of time, but it's completely worth it. The same rule applies to their primal coffee and primal latte. They create their own cream concoction for these drinks and it's magnificent. I've never had anything like it. I come here multiple times a week and leave with my taste buds so happy. I will say the staff isn't always extremely friendly, but I can get over it because the food is really good and the coffee. read more

Cool place in small neighborhood on Latha street. Across the cemetery. It's pretty busy and has cool design like all the nice coffee houses. This place is phenomenal and seriously one of the best breakfast places in all of Idaho. I hesitate to say that because there can definitely be a wait because of its popularity, but facts are facts. My wife and I went to Moe Joe's for breakfast recently and man was it good. I ordered the chicken fried steak and was stunned at the amount of food. Where to start. The steak was incredibly tender and enormous. The homemade biscuit was flaky and perfectly baked. The sausage gravy was meaty and flavorful. And the crispy hashbrowns seemed to cover half the plate. Then there are the house-made jellies. Who does that and how can I get more! The service was prompt and friendly with a great wait staff that made everything easy. The vibe of the restaurant is "friendly neighborhood spot" and feels like home. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. These folks know how to do breakfast right and I cannot wait to go back.

Spicy, bold, and ridiculously tasty. Coffee? Strong and smooth. The prices were so low I thought they misprinted the menu, and then the portions came out and confirmed we'd officially scored. Of course it's our last day in Idaho and we finally find the best breakfast spot.

Cocktails we got the mule, which I liked, and a prickly pear margarita, which was way too sour for me. I'd go back and just get the apps and dessert, skip the mains. Our table had a nice view to the street and ambiance was good.

Our server got some coffee and apple juice started for us while we looked over the menu. Everything looked so good! For brunch my husband got the Brunch trio. He picked cinnamon roll French toast, a cinnamon roll and some eggs. I got the sunrise sampler with cinnamon roll French toast. I had to try a little bit of everything. I also snagged a side of country gravy for my potatoes. Food came out really fast and it all looked fantastic! The cinnamon roll French toast was so fragrant. My husband's cinnamon roll looked divine. And the sunrise sampler was all about business! It was hearty! If you ever eat here, the cinnamon roll French toast is a must! It's crispy on the outside topped with butter and cinnamon sugar dust. The inside is soft and warm. Killer good! I did take a bite of my husband's cinnamon roll. It was mehhh. But I think if it was served warm, it would have been that much better. It was cold, dry and stiff. The bacon and sausage on my plate were cooked perfectly! My eggs were great and the potatoes were tasty! I do wish that the country gravy was not lumpy. I couldn't get over the lumps in the gravy from it sitting. I had about a couple spoons of it and couldn't eat it. It looked esthetically displeasing. Breakfast was good. Aspen did a decent job taking care of us. The venue is super charming. But the cinnamon roll was cold and honestly tasted like it wasn't freshly baked. The country gravy was lumpy and not very hot. It sucked to pay for a side of it and not enjoy it.
