Arrive early so you can upgrade to a freshly made croissant since they have those in limited batches. As for the drinks themselves, I was happy with my unsweetened matcha which should always be a standard and my partner said the coffee was very delicious. I also had an enjoyable experience just sitting down the shop with the amount of thoughtful tchotchke's they had plus you could also purchase a hand-made ceramic mug. I love it when I am not looking at a boring white wall when I spend my time relaxing in the morning with a caffeinated drink. So happy we found this place! Great customer service. Super friendly and great at listening to modifications that was needed. They were open to modifying the drink to what you needed. They make their own creamer that was so good! They also make their own chai that is ginger forward. Luckily for me, I love ginger so he dirty chai I had was perfect. Absolutely amazing. I would 100% come back and I intend to! Otherwise, the space inside is cute, cozy, and clean. There is a parking lot so they have plenty of parking. Cozy and cute little coffee shop in a strip mall. My family is so glad we ventured here during our time in Boise! Service was friendly and nice. Husband and I got a breakfast sandwich. The egg is served poached but can be served as hard boiled if requested (thank you!). They had run out of their good bread, so we just got sliced sandwich bread (my advice would be to expect this if you are getting the breakfast sandwich during lunch hours). The sandwich itself was delicious and had lots of layers and a kick of spice with the Chipotle sauce. Would definitely order again! Oh, and the primal latte is DELICIOUS! UUUUggghhhh. Honestly, I already am annoyed with myself for writing this review...But I also know if I don't, I will not be able to stop pouting about my discord over this place. I will start with the positive...Primal Coffee truly has the best coffee in Boise. I am often disappointed with artisan coffees, and that was not the case here. Lots of options - both standard and unique - to fit one's preferences. Although small, the shop is cozy and hip. If they were open later, I could see myself frequenting this place several times a week after work. But. Here's what is causing my resentment - I have now been to Primal 4 times - and each time I have been treated like I came in off the street not to order coffee, but to demand the employees help me change all 4 of my car tires - wearing only hatfuls of bees. The last time I was there, no one greeted me or asked me for my order; only stared at me from behind the counter with an eyebrow raised awaiting my request. Again...I felt like my mere presence was causing him to want to reach over and pinch me as hard as he could. I found myself apologizing to him...but I'm not sure what I was sorry for? Patronizing the establishment? Isn't that a good thing? The coffee is good enough that I will go back. Primal Coffee seems,to charge inaccurately as an intentional practice. Primal Coffee does not treat every customer equitably, and seems to intentionally engage in selective bullying, passauve agressive and directly agressive, abd harassing behavior of select individuals. Ive personally experienced very negative behavior from the Owner and workers of this business simply due to trying to understanding what the accurate price of a coffee was in their shop. They overcharged me for over 6 months, and once I started to write a review, they engaged 8n personal attacks, and other very juvenile behavior. Not sure why it took me so long to get here - they had been open 8 months by this point! But thanks to a reminder and a friend's gift card I finally went, and it was not a disappointment! It's slightly hidden if you don't know it's there - like diagonal across the street from STIL. My favorite marker moving forward is the rad Datsun truck that says "not powered by Dutch Bros." The vibe inside is exactly my favorite aesthetic - chill, industrial with exposed wood and some piping. It's very speakeasy and has its own unique accents with the guitars for sale, as it's also part music store. The seating is so cool too - there's tables per usual but also this corner area that's cozy and also makes sense for the space. Lots to look at too, which my one-year-old loved. So get the primal coffee, which legit every person can in after me said to get or got for themselves. If you're more a latte gal, get the vegan primal latte. The housemade cream is oat milk-based and DELICIOUS. I didn't get food this time, so this review is based on drink and ambiance. The baristas/founder were so chill too. You can tell they value their patrons, know coffee, and respect the craft. I think they're at the Saturday market too, so I'll catch them there as well. And once I got there, I'll keep getting there. The coffee is inventive and curated. I like my coffee black but even I appreciate the uniqueness of the namesake coffee. Primal coffee has condensed milk in it and boy am I glad that's made the leap from coffee relegated to other cuisines and landed in Boise. Decor is eclectic and calming. The space is small but cozy. Be warned that if you roll in on a Saturday morning you'll have a lot of company. They serve coffee in specialty mugs. The owner makes his own chai that's ginger-forward in a wild way. I'm not a sweet person but the cheese danish was insistently calling me so I bought it. Astounding! I never experienced anything like it! It was perfect perfectly and shockingly not sweet.! I think it was an asiago danish and was remarkable as was the exceptional Kouign-aman (croissant like pastry) that my son had. Best coffee and food in town! It's like a big hug in a cup. I also love how primal coffee supports local artist, musicians and events. I have been here so many times where traveling musicians come in and stay a while. They also have extra seating two doors down in their lovely music room, great vibe! Many people who work hear are musicians. Primal coffee workers are so kind and helpful. My daughter is a coffee (shop) nut and has drug me (willingly) to every coffee joint in town, and Boise has a lot of good ones (Push n pour, Slo by Slo, etc) but this one has become a favorite. Don't be fooled by the (lack of) front ambiance in this run down old office strip, if my D hadn't made me I would have never ventured in and found my favorite coffee and breakfast. The flavoring they put in the coffee and latte's is called Primal and it is the perfect amount of sweetness and cream. Find the biggest homemade mug and fill it up. And while the breakfast sandwich is great, and pastries excellent, it is the avocado sandwich which brings us back time and again. Like the front of the shop, it ain't much to look at - a bit thin? - but, damn it is the perfect balance of flavors. You don't need a two inch piece of toast piled with way too much green goo, you need this unassuming creation. Like this little coffee shop but soooo disappointed they've decided to close early on Sundays--blaming "the kava people" who apparently used to take over Sundays after 4pm. I was never aware that the shop was run by a different group on Sundays, I just knew they were warm and welcoming and equated that with Primal Coffee. Primal has become my almost daily stop, the lattes are delicious and the breakfast sandwich on ham and Swiss is heaven. (One of the best I've ever had) Normally the staff has been awesome and generally made quality drinks and food. Sadly today... the barista and the cashier had some serious attitude and made me feel (a daily regular) like I wasn't supposed to be here. In addition the first latte was so hot it would have given me third degree burns in my mouth had I tried to consume it, so I sweetly requested the second to be less scalding as I was taking the first to my mom, but drinking the latter in house. The barista was incredibly rude & clearly didn't appreciate the request then served me a literal luke warm latte. In addition just slammed doors cups and objects around the whole time I was waiting for my food. I don't think it's overly critical to say that latte temperature is almost the entire job. Made my experience today question my daily business. I love this place. And want to give 5 stars.
