There was…read moreseveral locations in the late 90's and early 2000's, that's when I started hitting up the coffee shops. I had my fair share of Milky Ways in high school. I did work for their Edward's location in 2000. One of the funnest jobs I had as a teenager coming out into the world. Core memories were made from my co workers, guests and the responsibilities I was given at such a young age. But with time, other coffee joints have opened and your curiosity takes over. You hit up those other coffee shops or stay within your area for convenience. You forget the root of what started your love for coffee. I drive by this Moxie Java a few times a week and it always brings back memories. So, today I made the decision to go in! I have yet to have coffee at this location but with that logo on their store front, you know you're going to get a great cup of coffee. This venue is big. I love the outside patio with the awning. Inside is cozy with the fireplace going. Plenty of seating for coffee and conversations. Comfy chairs by the fireplace. I adore all the local pictures of Downtown Boise. You can spend a good amount of time here enjoying your drink. A sweet gal behind the counter greeted me. I appreciate that they have a convenient syrup list available so you don't have to ask the barista what kind of options you have. One thing about Movie Java that I love is the ample amount of options of syrups. Their sugar free options is one of the best in town. I really wanted a Milky Way but I'm watching my sugar intake. I got an iced sugar free chocolate and caramel breve. I know it won't be the same but a decent alternative. I'm just happy that they even have sugar free chocolate as an option. A flavor 95% of these other coffee joints don't have. My breve was tasty. I did have to add a packet of sweetner to it. It was almost there in sweetness, it just needed an extra push. The espresso wasn't overly strong. The half and half was creamy. It was all balanced and so good! I sipped on it for a bit in front of the fireplace. It was nice to start my Friday off on such a good note. Moxie Java will always have a soft spot in my heart. It's part of my youth. I have so many fond memories from past coffee shops. My love for coffee started with this place. My first Milky Way will always be a favorite core memory for me. I'm happy I got to stop in and grab my coffee today. I will definitely have to stop in sooner than later.

Arrive early so you can upgrade to a freshly made croissant since they have those in limited batches. As for the drinks themselves, I was happy with my unsweetened matcha which should always be a standard and my partner said the coffee was very delicious. I also had an enjoyable experience just sitting down the shop with the amount of thoughtful tchotchke's they had plus you could also purchase a hand-made ceramic mug. I love it when I am not looking at a boring white wall when I spend my time relaxing in the morning with a caffeinated drink. We came on sunday after church and they were consistently busy, but super friendly and attentive. There isn't a ton of seating, but if you get a table, it's a nice place to hang out. The last time I went I tried the gingerbread latte - this was hands down THE BEST gingerbread latte I've ever had! I'm so bummed it's seasonal and that they aren't closer to me so I can enjoy it more before it's gone. I did enjoy their breakfast burrito, it is a smidge expensive, but it's solid. My partner is a black coffee drinker and he likes their Fruit Snacks brew for drip, says it's one of the best black coffees he's found in a while. The ambiance is very relaxed, the swing chairs are such a unique idea (at least in my experience) and they give the shop a fun vibe. I kind of wish they were in just a little bit bigger location, the last time I went it was fairly full inside and it would be great if they had a few more spots for comfy reading chairs - I would love to grab some snacks, a couple of drinks, and spend an hour or two reading there. I ordered two grilled cheese sandwiches one without tomato the other with (since it was on the menu). She clearly heard me because she repeated my order, I mentioned it was for my grandkids and if one of them didn't like it with tomato's I would eat the sandwich to which she laughed and agreed. I also order a bowl of soul with 2 shots. How is it my order was wrong? I received 2 egg sandwiches, I was so confused. I went back to the same person and explained what I received. She said she knew but not sure what she entered into the screen. I'm assuming a manager came to assist, she apologized and said my order for the food would be refunded and they would remake the grilled cheese sandwiches. They made the sandwiches, but today while checking my statement I was charged $42.65 for 2 sandwiches and the regular size BOS with 2 shots. Did I really pay that amount for two grill cheese sandwiches and a Bowl of soul? On the menu it showed the grilled cheese sandwiches just over $10, was I really double charged for the sandwiches?!? I am extremely upset and so disappointed in the service at this location. I did return the first sandwiches since I would not eat them, they tossed the sandwiches in the trash with an annoyed look. It was not my fault but somehow they made it seem like it was. This made my entire experience a not so good one, I would not be returning to Java after my experience.
