Dave showed up took measurements said he would get back to me with an estimate and after a week and a half called the office and he told me he wasn't interested in building the patio cover. This place is a joke. He could have told me when he was at the house he couldn't build it. Sorry contractors like this have to give Alumawood a bad name. I recently had a driveway and walkway and steps replaced by this company and was ecstatic with the competence and professionalism of the owner, David, and his staff. On the day of the pouring, he was present, as well as 6 or 7 others. My neighbors all commented on how beautiful the driveway turned out and how hard they saw them all working!!! Prime Builders is a bad company and you should not do business with them. David will promise you a lot and sounds like he knows what he is talking about but it is all BS. Not only are they expensive the quality sucks. For a company that specializes in concrete they try to talk you out of ideas or say what you want is not possible and when you ask for their idea on what might work they give a very basic design. But my major issue was when they said the work was all done and I called them to fix some of the mistakes he came by and was very rude to my wife even made her cry and said if he didn't get paid he would put a lean on my house. I will attach 3 pictures one is how they left the fire pit I had them put in. I told them I was gonna put fire glass on top but they didn't leave it ready for fire glass he just left large pieces of lava rock on top of the burner. Then there was a cover they didn't put in when David came by he scooped the dirt out and left the mess. But lastly when they poured the concrete there was no foreman there David came by for the payment then left. When they complete the pour they forgot about a drain they took it out but left the concrete looking horrible around it. I immediately called him and he said it would fix itself. WTF fix itself??? It still looks bad and he didn't give a discount. He got his payment but his work sucks don't do business with them you will be disappointed. read more

David was outstanding to work with! I am on the board for our HOA community and I contacted Prime Builders to install a brand new Alumawood Lattice that was 23' X 26' in size. This particular lattice required a lot of hoops to jump through since it required permits to be pulled and drawings that needed to be provided to get those permits from the city. This was no challenge for David though and with his experience and expertise, he was able to not only do some very impressive drawings for our community but also was able to secure the permits and build the structure on time as he proposed. Years ago he also built another lattice for our community about 7 years ago and also fixed some little items with that for us as well. I was very pleased with the work, the service that was provided, the communication and updates during the permit pull, and finally with the end result. I saw mixed reviews before we got started, but I saw the reviews after with the owner Dave. I'm pretty good at judging character and decided to hang in there with him. He's an old timer but knew his stuff when it came to Alumawood Patio covers. I my case we have to demo a wood lattice patio because of wood rot after 12 years. So he gave me a price to demo and install the new patio cover. His price seemed fair (actually less than I was anticipating) so I felt comfortable going ahead. We had a little of a communication breakdown in the beginning although looking back I don't believe it was intentional. I just made a few calls to get him for updates. After signing his proposal on 7/27/17 everything was complete on 8/14/17. All the work was done by one man. Dan took over and was who did my demo and installed. He clearly knows what he's doing and I was amazed this 65 year old did everything by himself! He is meticulous and made sure I was satisfied. After months of interviews and much thought, we hired Prime Builders to add a patio, retaining wall and drains to our property. We told them up front that we had high expectations for the block work because my dad is mason. What we got is not what we paid for. They had to dig out dirt for the wall in our back yard, David said it would only take up half of our drive way for a day or two. This was completly false. They took up our entire driveway and our grass for over 3 days and then didn't clean up the mess. When we pointed it out, we were told we had to give a little it was construction. They left trash everywhere - their lunch trash. Our dog found chicken bones left in the grass in our front yard. My husband had to clean up the bunch that was left. The wall had block placed in it with chips, they had to tear it out. We were told the majority of the footing for our wall was placed behind the wall. It was not, it was two feet in front of the wall, they had to dig that out. The joints in the wall are horribly done and we were told it was because the wall wasn't level - what a crock of crap! When they poured the concrete they encased sprinklers in the concrete and we were told it was no big deal. My husband had to prove to the owner the horrible job they did, he wouldn't believe us till each thing was pointed out. We did not get all the drains we had expected. We did not get the steps we wanted and they didn't finish the side yard as expected. Before they dug our wall we had four working sprinklers and verbally we were assured they would be moved. Instead they just broke the pipe and left the dead sprinklers in the ground. David didn't want to fix it because it wasn't on the contract That's our fault, we trusted him at his word, but it is no good. He told us we could look up a video on YouTube to see how it is done. We told him we didn't have time and that's why we hire people to get the job done. It was very clear on a daily basis that the workers did not respect the owner of the company. When David was at the job they worked hard, but the moment they didn't think he was coming back, they did no work for the rest of the day. I know this because I was here everyday of the project, only leaving for a short period one day. On the last day they were here, David instructed his workers not to walk on our concrete, and while he was here they didn't. As soon as he was gone, they didn't care. We trusted David to do a good job, but instead we have to spend more money fixing the job they did. I DO NOT recommend this company. Save yourself the headache. read more

A few weeks ago I found myself having to take a month off from work because I had too much vacation time accrued. Awww, poor me, huh, LOL! So one day I'm sitting out back on the patio enjoying some liquid manna from heaven (beer), and I remembered that my wife wanted me to hang a new bird feeder on the 30 year old wood patio cover. So I gets the drill to make a pilot hole for a lag eye bolt, and as I pressed on the drill I realized that I didn't even need to have the drill turned on to make a hole because the wood beam was rotted. After contemplating this situation for an entire two seconds, I decided that it was time for the ol' patio cover to meet its' demise, and it would get replaced with an Alumawood patio cover. First step, I downloaded the structural engineered plans from the Alumawood/Amerimax website and made myself familiar with the engineers' requirements for a patio cover in my high wind area, based upon the span/distance between my house and the posts. But then the question arose as to who I know or trust to supply and construct this new patio cover? Bottom line, no one! After a day of online research & calling friends, I set up interviews with 3 contractors. The first contractor was a perpetual advertiser in our local booklet of upscale plastic surgeons, day spas, and contractors. The second contractor came highly recommended by a friend who had an Alumawood carport installed at his house. The third contractor was Prime Builders, whom I found through Yelp. Contractor #1 sent a salesman who lied so much I just had to write a Yelp review to help unsuspecting homeowners not get snookered by those scheisters. Contractor #2 stated that it would take at least three weeks to get the materials, he did have the lowest price, but his proposal did not define in writing that the contractor would demolish & dispose of the existing wood patio cover. Contractor #3, YUUUUUP, you guessed it, was Prime Builders. I met with David Brenner, owner of Prime Builders, and I was extremely impressed with David's qualifications, background & knowledge of construction. BTW, I've been involved in the construction industry for the past 35+ years, and I'm also a natural born skeptic, so I don't easily fall for the ol' banana in the tailpipe. David's proposal was very detailed as to the scope of work, material specifications, and price. On a personal note I found David to be very customer oriented, honest, and having a genuine sense of humor. In contrast to contractor #1, David answered all my questions during the interview, and at no time did he try to pressure me into signing the contract. After an hour of careful consideration & mental debate, I chose to employ the services of Prime Builders over the lower cost of contractor #2. I've watched enough of Judge Judy to know that the cheap can get expensive, especially when the details are not in writing. In this case I received the top notch professional service that I expected by employing the higher priced contractor, including much faster service than what the other two contractors promised. David called me soon after I had e-mailed the signed contract to him. He was able to order the materials and get a delivery date of the following Thursday. We agreed that his employees would demolish my existing patio cover on Monday due to predicted rain on Tuesday & Wednesday, and they would return on Friday to construct the new patio cover. Two employees of Prime Builders showed up on time the following Monday morning. These guys busted hump all day long dismantling the wood patio cover and loading it into their trucks. AND they did a great job cleaning the patio slab and lawn before they left. Friday morning rolls around and BAM, these guys are on time again. These guys had additional work to do during the construction because they were attaching the new patio cover to a flush cut fascia and not a plumb cut fascia like most homes have, but they still completed the job by the end of the day. Being quite familiar with the engineered plans for this project, and also due to my employment background, I spent quite a bit of time watching these guys construct the patio cover, and I can honestly say that they did not have a lot of wasted movement. They were very organized and have obviously worked together as a team for quite some time. They were also very meticulous, double checking all their measurements when laying out the patio & posts, ensuring a successful conclusion. Once again, they cleaned the job site at the end of the day before they left. Prime Builders also made all the arrangements to have a licensed electrician, Peace of Mind Electric, come to our house and install a light fixture on each of the three posts. We had a vinyl covered patio built about 7 yrs ago with the expectation from the builder that the tongue in groove roof "might'" leak a little but a "little caulking would solve that problem".Bull....! After trying to remedy the leaking like a sift for too many years I finally gave up and started calling patio repair experts that I found on line and came across Prime builders. Boy did I get lucky. David came out to my house (a 25 mi. Drive) on time and really studied my problem. I wanted to save as much of my vinyl covering as I could (it looks great, but LEAKS), but try to put on an alumna wood roof. He thought it could be done and still give me a leak proof guarantee. The previous estimate that I got wanted to completely tear down the vinyl patio and put up an all new cover for just $5600. Dave saved me over $2200. Gee--That was a real tough decision! Don did all the work by himself ! This guy never stopped all day. He realized he had an unusual job and knew he had to make some adjustments with installing the alumna wood cover on top of the existing cover. I had these guys out to give me an estimate for a patio and some concrete work in my backyard. It was a straight forward project . David came out to give an estimate. After measuring everything and taking about the project for a while he said he would email me the bid later that day or the next day at latest. After I never heard back 3 days later I followed up with a phone call. The office secretary told me they would get back to me soon with the info I was looking for. After another week with no word for these guys I called again out of morbid curiosity ( at that point there was no way I was trusting these clowns with 20k of my money) when I finally got him to answer his phone he simply told me he was not interested in my project...... We hired Prime Builders to repave our driveway and walkway 5 years ago. At the time we had problems with them. They added to the original contract without informing us of the added cost until the day the payment was due. Then, within a week after the job was done, the driveway developed a serious crack. When we called them about it, they promised to come out and fix it. We called them numerous times, and they kept putting us off. This went on for months, and we finally gave up. This morning we discovered that they did something even worse. We tried to have a septic inspection done and discovered that when they paved the walkway over the septic tank that they left too small an opening over the septic tank to be able to do the inspection. We are going to have to pay several thousand dollars to have the cement walkway dug up and redone after the inspection. I'm only giving them a one-star rating because I can't give them a zero. read more

Let me start by saying I did not have a good experience with Prime Builders. I contacted David, the owner of Prime Builders, to get a bid for a complete hardscape/landscape of my front yard and back yard. After waiting a few weeks for the bid, David presented a very vague and poorly written contract. When I questioned him on this, numerous times I was told "don't worry, I'll be very fair and we can modify it at any time." David can be very personable, so unfortunately I trusted his words. David requested, and I made periodic payments toward the project. When David made his most recent request for a $5,000 payment, I became concerned that I may have overpaid for the work that was performed so far and expressed this to David. He assured me this was not the case. I asked David to present to me an itemization, including costs, of all the work performed so far. David was not able to, or chose not to, produce the requested itemization. I then spent several hours taking measurements and calculating the work performed and estimated the costs incurred based on prior e-mails David had sent quoting the cost of such anticipated work. Upon completion of this very tedious task, I realized I had overpaid by several thousand dollars. I presented all my measurements and calculations to David and invited him to respond with his own calculations. David never did produce any of his own calculations, so I requested a refund of the overpayment. David then told me any overpayment could be applied to pavers I planned on having laid. I told David I did not want to move forward with the project until we agreed on the cost of the work done so far. Right about that time, David began totally ignoring my many e-mails and phone calls. Once I was finally able to contact David, he merely said "you paid only for the work that was completed." I found this odd because he had already told me any overpayment could be applied to the pavers. Numerous times I requested an itemization of how he came to that conclusion and he never, ever gave me any itemization at all. The only thing I can figure is he must have thought I should pay for a couple of costly expenses he incurred due to the oversight on the part of his crew, one of which was incurred when his crew failed to get a crucial inspection on a 6' x 60' block wall, so the inspector required him to fill the entire wall with concrete. Another incident occurred when his crew failed to form bullnose steps in the concrete forms even though I told everyone I came in contact with at Prime Builders I wanted bullnose steps. His crew was then required to return to the job and re-form all the steps. Unfortunately, I had no alternative but to end my relationship with Prime Builders right in the middle of the job. I never did receive a refund of my overpayment nor an explanation why Prime Builders felt there was no overpayment. On top of all this, the concrete job I received from Prime Builders was rather sloppy and it has several low spots where water pools when it rains.
