Hubby & I are KBBQ lovers ! We love it & sometimes we mix it up & cook at home - thinking we are saving money when in reality it costs about the same or if not more, since my husband eats a lot. H Mart was completely cleaned out of beef brisket for NYE. What to do ?? That's right, I remembered Prime Meat Market, a hole in the wall meat shop specializing in Korean meats! If you know, you know! Lucky me, they were open when I arrived. I was hoping to pick up fresh, not frozen meat. I wanted to get a variety, tongue, belly & brisket. I get in & asked the lady but she told me there was only frozen brisket available. Priced at $60, it was plenty of meat for 2 of us. I was a bit disappointed though - for that type of money I would expect better marbling in the meat. I bought the pack anyway & complimentary, you get stinky radish + your choice of white or green onion + sauce. Great ! The meat was alright - definitely not as tasty as the meat I get at H Mart. I would love to try this place again, but hopefully when I go there will be more options available & not just frozen brisket :(. read more

Great Korean meat market behind Mitsuwa. I've been meaning to stop by and glad that I did. The shop was clean, well organized, cozy. They have both marinated & unmarinated meat. The quality is high, way way higher than H Mart or Zion. Prices are high but you know inflation. I rather pay more for better quality. I tried the spicy marinated pork, some side dishes, picked up some kimchi too. Pork was so delicious, whole family loved it. Free romaine lettuce, shredded green onion & samjang was nice. By far the best butcher shop I've ever been to, especially if you're making any kind of Korean dish. Went there earlier yesterday to get a full pork belly. The man that helped me was so nice, the service was amazing! It's a bit pricey, but the meat quality is absolutely worth it. I used to get pork belly from Costco. But those stink up the whole kitchen when you open them. The one I got from Prime Meats had no smell at all! This small mom and pop meat market is awesome. If you want the freshest highest quality kbbq meat to grill at home this is your place! It's pricey but you get what you pay for. They also give you sauces and lettuce along with thinly sliced onion with marinade. I believe if you purchase over a certain dollar amount, they give you leaf greens, salad w/ dressing, chili paste, and sambal (I think that's what it's called). My go-to meat market for quality Korean BBQ. A friend suggested the place a few months ago and we tried the marinated LA galbee and it was amazing. The quality of the meat was top notch. You can tell by looking at it and of course tasting it too. The marinade was spot on. They also sealed it in a nice, sturdy plastic packaging. I've been ordering ~10 lbs of marinated LA Galbee and they pack it in 2 sealed packages. We love it and have gone back several times. Try it. In the Irvine area, for Korean cuts of meat, there are 3 markets to select from... mom pop type place such as this Prime Meat Market or corporate such as Zion & Hmart. Prime Meat Market Irvine, small butcher market is clean, they have hand sanitizer & the aujumma & aujeoshi wear masks. The aujumma has always been friendly. The aujeashi comes off borderline rude, doesn't say thank you but I can look past that as I mostly have encountered w the aujumma. This is my go to for yangnyeom prime grade galbi at $15.99/lb & maewon daegi bulgogi at $13.99/lb. In their self serve refrigerator, they have various prepackaged meats available, usually packaged with min 2lbs+ of meat. If you spend (I believe it's) over $30, they will provide lettuce, scallion salad w dressing & ssamjang sauce. The lettuce scallions have consistently been fresh. You can order in advance for larger orders. Their pricing is a bit higher/more expensive than the corporate markets, but well worth it for the quality & spot on marinade flavor. Based on their product, they deserve 5 stars. So Why the 2 stars... I have never questioned the cost of their meats until my most recent purchase. Rule of thumb, one pound of galbi is roughly 4 pcs. The container I received had 9 pieces of galbi & was marked at 2.93 lbs total. If 8 pieces should roughly weigh 2 lbs, how is the 9th piece 0.93 lbs? I decided to weigh the package of meat ... scale showed the same 2.93 lbs. hmmm are they weighing & pricing With marinade... hence inflated price. See pictures. Each piece of galbi weighed about 0.21+. Removed meat and weighed the marinade. Really... 0.70 lbs (11.2 oz) of marinade. Unfortunately this type of practice does not sit well with me & they now have lost a long standing customer. And btw Zion & Hmart weigh the meat first then add marinade. There are other Korean meat butcher shops in OC that are slightly less expensive & carry the same quality/grade of meat & have good marinade flavor. I don't mind driving an extra 10 minutes supporting other mom & pop shops now. read more

Being Korean, I usually treat myself to homemade korean bbq rather than going out to eat (better quality by far, cheaper, no wait... basically the best thing ever). My family used to purchase meat from grocery markets (Arirang, Hmart, etc.) but checked this place out a year or so ago via a recommendation. My favorite cut of meat for KBBQ is definitely the brisket, and theirs never disappoints. It's thin and has a great texture - not too chewy but still has substance. I see a lot of complaints from other reviews about the man who works there. I will agree that he's rather aloof (verging on rude) in terms of customer service, but the woman makes up for it. read more

I see lots of complaints down below, but honestly I dont get it because the portions are huge. This is my favorite meat place in Irvine for two reasons. Great Taste and Great Value!!! They sell both marinated and non-marinated meat. I always get their marinated Korean galbi, and bulgogi Sooooo Gooood! Sliced Pork in BBQ style, Sliced Beef in shabu shabu style, side dishes... They give you free lettuce, thin sliced onions all nice and washed, and all the sauces of course all included when you buy their meat. Love that!!! The have it all! I typically purchase an entire slab to slice my own when eating hotpot/shabu shabu but i was in a rush and needed to find pre-sliced meat.. Paid 17 bucks per pound for prepacked meat labeled Prime Top Blade??? I felt like a SuckaFoo but I was short on time and desperate. The meat placed on top seems to have some marbling but the meat under the top layer was select at best. I generally root for these MOm and Pops but they need to hear some constructive criticism if they expect to compete w larger Korean markets. The meat looked too thick for hotpot so i asked for thinner cuts but the ahjumma stated that these slices are the thinnest they can do. She had no reply when I called her on her BS letting her know I have a slicer and produce way thinner cuts. Maybe their Galbi and other cuts are good quality but stay away from those gross and veiny cardboard they call "shabu shabu" meat. read more

I like the the korean restaurant right next to this place, so one day the hubby and I dropped in. You can see that the meat is very fresh. We decided to come back one day to get Korean BBQ to make at home. The guy manning the counter definitely understood English but acted like he didn't. Annoying. I asked him if any of the marinated meats come in smaller portions than 4-5 lb. packages. He said, "no." OK. Does the kim chee come in smaller packages, it is just for my husband and I and we don't need 1.5 gallon jug. Again, "no." Does he have any idea where I can find a smaller amount: *blank stare, doesn't understand English* Bulls**t. I got the meat but not the kimchi, and it was really good but of course way too much. My mom was raving about how great the meat is here after trying it out at a house party. So she brought their pork and beef to bbq at home and let me tell you, this beats Gen and All That. It's organic, too. We had it with dduk bo sam (rice paper), mu (sliced radish), and mom's secret sauce for the salad (the best). I think we''ll be staying in more for kbbq now. Even better, there's so much meat in a pack that it's good for big families or just round 2 next time. Freeze it and thaw next time you bbq and you're good to go! Came here a few weeks ago to buy some meats for home Kbbq. I love this place! They give you a head of lettuce, a big tupperware of sliced green onion salad with dressing, ssamjjang sauce, and hot sauce with each purchase of a meats. I got the brisket and the pork belly. oh my goodness - the meats were the best i've had. I used to go to Hmart for my meats but i will go here from now on. I also got their kkakdugi pickled radish and their pickled radish for wraps. i wouldn't get their kkakdugi again, but everything else was delicious. I wish: - they would sell rice paper - have fresh intestine selection - various banchan that way i don't have to make two stops (1 here the other at Hmart)! read more

The meat quality is really good. First 2 times, the whole batch was good. But on the third time, only the top curled meats were good, and the bottom flat meats were kinda chewy and thick. I'll be going back tonight for some more korean bbq meat. Btw, you can spent about $50 for about 8 people. You'd spend more than $200 at a restaurant for that much meat. The meal tonight was amazing. The meat was very high quality. You need to understand if you are buying already cut meat it needs to be cooked or it will oxidize. I pulled out the cast iron golems it smoking and did a minute a side. Other considerations are that there are vendors with waygu in smaller portions or there is Costco with amazing ribeyes 2 inch thick within the same price range. If you're big fan of DIY QUALITY Korean BBQ, then this place is the best place to buy k-bbq stuff. This place has everything prepared; beef brisket, rib, pork belly, washed lettuces, rice cake slices, kim-chi, hot sauces, radish slices,...etc. pretty much everything that you need for K-bbq. Like I said it's top tier quality meat(way better than Gen or Beak-jung) comes with price, but I would say it's worth every penny. I'm not Gordon Ramsay, but when I ate cheap K-bbq, it usually gave me a stomachache with nasty headache. However, I never had those kinds of issues with their meats. Not to mention, owner lady is super nice and generous. I always dropped by the bakery next door to get some Pork Bao and some bake goods. I saw the Meat Market next door and went in to check it out. I was so excited to see they sell thinly sliced beef. Great! I can buy these meat next time when I like to have shabu-shabu. Dropped by today...they don't cut the beef to order. You have to choose from one of the pre-packed meat from the freezer. They're huge! The cashier lady told me each pack is for 4 people. Ok, no problem. I'll just freeze the left-over beef in the freezer. The big ice chunk of beef did not defrost in time for dinner. I bought it at noon, and the cashier lady told me it will defrost in time for dinner. Ok. It's ok. My husband and I are not big eaters, we will get full by eating the top layer of defrosted meat. The meat was very chewy, not a very high quality beef! And it's not cheap! 3lb. of beef costs $34. Basically, average $10 per lb. It's not a bad store. It's my fault to assume any thinly sliced beef as shabu shabu beef. So, take this review with a grain of salt. If you're looking for shabu shabu beef, don't go there. read more
