Unfortunately tonight we were greeted with hostility from the hostess because we had 4 adults and one child. We were scolded to the fact that a child under 3 counts as a seat and we were not aware of this. We've frequent this establishment often, giving lots of business including holiday parties and we didn't even get an apology. Heidi and Donny provided us with an OUTSTANDING Service experience right from the get-go. Careful, attentive and above all FRIENDLY. You feel as though you are life long friends as soon as you sit down. Then they hit you with the food. HOLY SCHNIKES as Tommy Boy would say, was it excellent. The steak was soooo right. And the Heath Bar Cookie Sundae? I'd go back everyday and eat just that. I don't eat sweets that often, but every time I do... i'm coming here for this. I'm going to do the poorest job in the world explaining exactly how unique and delicious this is, but here goes: Imagine your grandmother made a giant chewy cookie. Now add more goo-iness and more heath bar crunchies than you thought were even possible to cram inside the cookie. My husband and I went to Prime, on an impromptu quest for lunch in Guilford. Relocating from Atlanta where the food scene is rich in both cuisine and culture. I was satisfied with service and cuisine, and already craving tacos was beyond excited to see ahi tuna tacos on their lunch menu. They were perfectly accompanied with decent size pieces of the sushi grade tuna with (I'm guessing?) apple and cabbage slaw underneath. Tacos did NOT fall apart, a super plus. We ordered calamari for an appetizer, that was way bigger than expected for two people, and took the remainder to go. My husband had crab cake sliders and was pleased with taste, presentation, and actual crab in the crab cake. Will certainly try for dinner. We went here on Friday our first time. We sat at the bar with Heidi had a ops entrees desert and of course cocktails. Everything was great all recommendations from Heidi great choices. The service was fabulous and very friendly . The place is awesome very clean and cozy. No body at any time was hanging around they all are very attentive to everything and everyone. Lots of nice people and the customers all talk to each other!! Oh yeah and the happy hour drinks include everything except bottles of wine. That is a rare find for sure!!! read more

Went in on a busy Tuesday evening. The owner was not only friendly but very accommodating as well. I would highly recommend a reservation moving forward but worth the wait. The ambiance is beautiful, clean and very much inviting. We sat in the dining room and I ordered a refreshing LU-LU Lemon "Ade" cocktail (so good!) Then the food came...my friend and I shared the Chicken Bruschetta sandwich and " That's One Prime "Mutha-Clucka" sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious and I would recommend both. It was OK but the real super colossal shrimp cocktail is right down the street at Amarones in Guilford Ordered Steak Sandwich Was asked how I wanted it cooked Asked med rare it was more medium well. Wow...that's the best way I can describe our experience here last night. So, about 2 months ago my wife and I were in Guilford for dinner at another restaurant and noticed Prime was open and packed. It looked very inviting. We made a mental note to check it out. 2 weeks ago I made us reservations after looking at reviews and the website. We arrived to a brightly lite,busy scene. The vibe is upscale and clubby. We were shown right to our table, a 2 top in the middle aisle of a packed dining room. Our sever, Sarah, arrived and asked for our water preferences and took our drink order. Since I had been dying for a good steak, I decided on the Maple old fashioned from the libations menu and my wide went with a titos mule. We settled in to review the entire menu . Everything sounded great and as orders were coming past for other diners,it became apparent that we were in for a great meal. Drinks arrived and were tasty and strong. We decided on the Sicilian calamari to start, I choose the 14oz strip steak mid rare,my wife went with the 7oz filet and we chose a large market salad to split and the big e baked potato. Our calamari arrived after a very short wait. What a great take on a classic, as you can see from my picture, it was a hearty portion of tentacles and large cuts of rings. It was accompanied by a tomato chutney of sorts and a lemon wedge wrapped thoughtfully in a small mesh bag. The squid was super crisp outside yet tender and juicy inside. The chutney, while flavorful, was a bit thick for dipping. A very small complaint. We could barely put a dent in the portion of our appetizer. Our server was extremely attentive and sociable without being overbearing. Very professional. Our dinners arrived in a very timely manner. The steaks were hot,cooked to exact temperature and each had a beautiful exterior crust. The compound butter on top was a nice touch. Each came with a side of the house steak sauce. Our large side salad came on a small platter. How often do you hear someone rave about a salad? Well do yourself a favor and get one of these. Not only was every element fresh and crisp but dotted through were baby peppadew drops that were just an amazing touch. The dressing was a balsamic based house dressing that perfectly compliments the salad. I would definitely make it a regular addition to any future meals here. But, that's not all. The final element to our meal arrived right after the steaks and salad. You know in movies when a spot light shines on something and dramatic music plays then everyone turns to look? Well it seemed like that as our loaded potato was delivered to our already jam packed table. It was actually funny in its proportion. It was definitely a 1 lb spud, filled with bacon,broccoli and cheese and piled high with fried onions. On the side some wonderful salted butter and horseradish spiked sour cream sat in separate bowls. What a presentation! Here's where I would do things differently next time. Our 2 top table was not adequate to handle our meal. Plus,being in the center aisle, there was a pretty constant stream of traffic past us. It's a symptom of a busy and popular place. We will shoot for different seating next time. This won't deter us from coming back. As dinner wound down, our server asked if we wanted desert , the menu looked inviting but having such a great meal we decided on a pair of the pumpkin martinis for desert. I was expecting slightly sweet and a bit heavy drink but they were actually light,delicious and a perfect way to end an awesome meal. We are already planning on our next meal here. Shrimp Scampi, totally inedible. "Red pepper flakes"??? The pepper was way overdone, as it was throughout the pasta. The chicken franchise was so salty, it ruined the flavor. The zitti that came with it was undercooked, the pasta was still white in the middle, a sign of uncooked pasta. The menu did say " al dente", but this was just too hard. We went to Prime on Wednesday for the first time and we're definitely underwhelmed. We were able to get a reservation and table quickly, that was great. We ordered wine and beer- both were good, beer is definitely over priced at $12 for a can For starters we had the French onion soup and the lettuce wraps. Lettuce wraps were good, French onion soup with sweet and too salty. For entrees, we had the steak frites which was cooked well. Fries were not good but the steak was. And the steak sandwich. This was ordered medium and came out well done and seriously over salted/seasoned. We sent it back and they did take that off the bill, but just was very unimpressed with the food. No online reservation system and had to call repeatedly - they don't have bread - steakhouses typically have warm bread with great butter - no creamed spinach - which is a steakhouse staple - tight space with not enough separation between bar and restaurant I'd go back for a burger and beer but cast iron in new haven is a better bet for a fancy meal read more

Sunday evening we attended for a birthday celebration with 5 adults and a child, maybe a little loud for the baby but it was a busy night during peak hours, understandable. Jackie our server was extremely nice and conducted a really nice service, not intrusive and very accommodating, whenever we needed anything seemed like she was where within moments. The appetizers she recommended were great, the BamBam Shrimp were sauced and still crispy and hot. I had the Delmonico with a Caesar salad. While it was $80 for the steak the quality of meat, the cook and the generous 22oz portion makes it totally worth it and I would most certainly order it again. My wife and I and a friend dined here on the recommendation . This place is very nice and clean inside but the food was sub par . My dish I had was the Prime Pescatore that was seafood and pasta although the dish looked great it was very bad . The pasta was very mushy and all the seafood on it was very tough . My wife and our friends steak frittes was good but definitely not prime . All in all we will not be back but will go up the street to Amarones . Triple charged my credit card and lied about it. The manager "John Hannigan" was rude and unprofessional to my pregnant wife and mother. Go to Quattros instead. Context: * Habitual customers of Prime. * Went there with a party of 6. Split the bill in 3, $180 total. Three credit cards were charged $60. * My (foreign) mother's credit card was charged an additional two times. Once for $160, another time for $50, very strange. First charge for $60 went through, the remaining charges got flagged by the fraud detection algorithm and my mother's credit card got blocked. * My wife went back with my mother, purposely leaving me home as my fuse is a bit short. Instead of apologizing, explaining it was human error, and cancelling the additional charges (which are still pending), this asshole John started listing off BS excuses, "It's the processing system!" We work in software. We know how it works. This was either human error or outright fraud. Then 30 minutes later after some call, my wife got him to admit it was human error (or fraud) and got "it happens once a week." Instead of sincerely apologizing (not "I'm sorry but [excuse]...") and leaving it at that, John said it's our problem, "take it up with your bank." My mother has no card and we have to spend hours on the phone dealing with this bullshit. John then informed us that if we never come back it's ok. Everyone in the party will write a review about this terrible experience and will indeed never come back. Food isn't good enough to warrant more energy than this. read more

I have been here three times. The first time we ate outside away from the chaos and had a fairly enjoyable time. We ordered appetizers, steaks and a cocktail. The waiter was brand new, like us, so we all worked together. He was very sweet and thoughtful. My cocktail was ok, the appetizers were not memorable. Like, I do not remember what we ordered. The steak was ok. The most enjoyable part was sitting outside. The second time I visited I had been calling for days to purchase a gift card, then I tried to just stop in and they were closed. I could not find their hours posted anywhere. FINALLY, I got a response on Facebook messenger of all places with those hours. Anyway, I arrived during business hours and was not greeted at the door. It was VERY loud and VERY hectic. The entire staff looked visibly stressed. I found someone that looked like they worked there and explained that I wanted to purchase a gift card. The look on her face was nothing short of BOTHERED. I almost walked out right then. I really should have in hind sight, but they were still relatively new and I offered some grace. The third and last time, my husband secretly made a brunch reservation for our anniversary. (I love a good brunch) We arrived and again...no greeting. She just stood there staring at us like "What do you want?" Then I get slammed into from behind by what appeared to me as a manager/owner? He was wearing a suit and clearly worked there. I apologized, NOTHING out of him. He literally ran directly into my back and said NOTHING. The lack of professionalism in this place is astounding and bizarre. The hostess eventually sat us at our two seat table in the aisle of this restaurant. The problem here is this is a highway from hell for wait staff. There is NOT enough room for them to do their jobs nor for customers to enjoy a meal without constant interruptions. Before we even met our waitress another waitress knocked my jacket off my chair as they walked by, another ran into my elbow. Every 5 seconds wait staff are flying passed us on either side of us excusing themselves each time. I honestly felt like we were being punked. Despite the outrageous interruptions we couldn't even hear each other because it was so loud. The acoustics are horrific in this joint. We asked to be moved to a quieter and less disrupted table and their decision was to move us directly into the same situation two tables up the aisle. So, we asked for the check and left without ordering any food and went up the street to Chapter One to celebrate our anniversary. It was like night and day as far as service and their brunch was absolutely delicious!!! Guilford has sooooo many better options that actually cater to their community than this pricey steak house (that's not actually a steak house) with awful service and terrible ambiance. read more

Came here for with family visiting from out of town, and had heard really good things! In total we had ordered buffalo cauliflower, fried calamari, scallops, salmon, lobster mac and steak. The apps, lobster mac and steak were all well seasoned and enjoyable. The steak, in particular, had a great sear and was cooked to perfection. The big issue we had, however, was anything involving the "risotto". I use quotes because it simply wasn't risotto. The salmon was served on top of a big ramekin-shaped pile of mostly flavorless and dry yellow rice that held its shape. A risotto is meant to spread across a plate. To be completely honest, there was not a huge difference between the rice that was served here and any kind of instant yellow rice from a bag. The salmon was also disappointing; it was meant to have an ginger and soy-based glaze coating it, which was hardly present. My scallops were served on a bed of the same rice and while they were enjoyable on their own, I found the rice to also be a let down, It was definitely not just a one-off bad plate of risotto. Overall, if you want a nice steak or seafood and a bit of an upscale atmosphere I would recommend coming. I would say many of the menu items are actually quite nice, but I would avoid anything containing this "risotto". read more

We dined with another couple Sunday at 5, Nov 26. The atmosphere was more sports bar than bistro. The menu had off putting names with flirtatious overtones for many items. The Manhattan was excellent. The service was friendly and helpful. The food, even salads were heavy. The fries were strangely tough, probably refried and certainly not the fresh "hand cut" promised. The chowder was tasty but served in a bread bowl which is dated and in the end gloppy. The wedge salad was a heap of wilted lettuce smothered in a mound of frizzled fried onions with somewhat old and mildly offputting salmon, but properly grilled. If not for our friends who recommended the place I would have sent it back. My friends burger was absurdly piled about 6 inches high with various ingredients. The Parmesan "crisps" on my wife's Caesar salad were like leather. This is an odd place with too high prices next to more reasonably priced items. It is not sure if it is a high end steakhouse or a sports bar. Overall, too much money for food I did not want to eat and will not eat again. I always try to give an honest review. Went there today for an early dinner. The kids gave me a gift card. I heard good and bad about the food and service. Started with a dirty martini which was very good. For apps my wife ordered the onion soup and I ordered the Caesar salad. It literally had no dressing on it, bone dry. Asked the server to take it back. The onion soup was tasty but was barely Luke warm. Entrees we're the 16oz NY Strip and 7oz filet. The strip had absolutely no flavor, came with a compound butter which didn't enhance the flavor. My wife said the filet was good. Ordered the scalloped potatoes it was average at best. If I actually paid for it they would of gotten 1 star. There are so many better restaurants to go to. I will never go back again. read more

Went there for the first time recently and doubt I'll ever go back. It's billed as a 'prime' steak house.....replete with high-end prices for steak offerings.....e.g. $62 and up for an average size NY Strip.....but there's nothing 'prime' about it!!! So I ordered the NY strip, medium rare.....It came out extremely crusted and seared....looking quite shrunken from its pre-cooked size........Yes, it was pink in the middle, but incredibly dry with little if any flavor. I can only assume it spent too much time being finished in an oven at an excessively high temperature rather than being seared and cooked appropriately on a grill. I've enjoyed many prime NY strips at terrific steak house restaurants... including the Palm, Mortons, Flemings, Smith & Wollensky, etc., and never had a shrunken, dry and flavorless offering such as this. In short, go elsewhere if you're looking for a good prime steak dinner. This place is definitely not worth it. read more

Came in on a Tuesday night around 9pm there were a few seats open at the bar so we sat there. The restaurant was pretty full at the time. I ordered the filthy martini and it was good, I wish there was a tad more olive juice in my drink but the blue cheese stuffed olives were delicious! I got the meat and potatoes for my meal and it was the perfect portion for one person, the steak wasn't fatty and was cooked a nice medium+. I'll be back for sure!
