Stopped here for a little dinner before a show and was delighted to enjoy a delicious country style French meal in an outdoor seating that was more than cozy. An "Al fresco" seating area is equipped with lovely radiant heat that kept the drizzly night from getting us down. We began with escargot and a chicken liver mousse that was rich, velvety and just luscious. A petit hanger steak, cooked to perfection and a plate of handmade cheese filled pasta pillows served with a rich lamb ragout was just what I needed to satisfy my voracious appetite. Attentive server and beautiful decor keeps this place on the top of my fine dining list. BTW, the craft cocktail Bees Knees was a delicious blend of Bar Hill gin with a cinnamon simple syrup and dash of nutmeg was just perfect

Im afraid i confused Bar Bouchee with Cafe Routier!!!!! Ive been to both and both FABULOUS but the pics here are Cafe Routier Le cuisinière est magnifique !!!! il y a un place endroit confortable et décontracté, mais le nourritures est extraordinaire !!! and of course they speak English the food is wonderful and authentic French cuisine

We adore Bar Bouchee but I think what makes it exceptional is Christine, one of the waitresses. She makes every meal there fee like I've flown across the ocean and am back in France. Best escargot but the shrimp special this time was the star of the show! We bring our son, who's 6, and he is always fine there but I wouldn't necessarily say it's kid-friendly inside.

This was my first time trying french cuisine. It was very tasty! The restaurant is very classy, cozy and quaint! The service was very friendly and helpful with menu and wine choices! I enjoyed the stuffed cod with lobster and the mushroom arancini with truffle on top. For our drink choice we ordered a bottle of savingon blanc which was incredible! Oh and we can't forget dessert! I ordered an apple tart with a cappuccino! Highly reccomend Bar Bouchee! We had a great night!

Excellent food and service. The ambiance is ok, nothing special, maybe a little loud, but it's ok.

I was searching for something that could match up to Maison Bar Vins back home. First off can we talk about the bones of the place. The Taft building which once was a hotel now sits and houses a very charming French restaurant with a chef who could care less who you are or if your camera is permanently to your hand. I sat at the bar and the chef seated me. I opted out for their three course pre fix bar menu. Chef and owner Vincent who had trained under ICONS in the culinary world met me with this good old fashion old school attitude that today's foodie influencers could never understand. Serious poised stern energy that I love so much about old world cooking boh lore. The food was great. The playlist was upbeat, the kitchen had energy. Straight ahead you can see the chef hard at work. We choose to sit at the bar for dinner. We were very impressed with the cocktails and wine flight. We were very impressed with the complimentary rosemary bread and bean/olive oil spread. For the first course, we opted for the crudo with the white wine, absolutely delicious, refreshing, and light. For the second course, we had the scallops, seared perfectly with a mushroom, hazelnut, and a fantastic sauce For the main course, we had the prime sirloin strip, roasted potatoes, and parsnip. The New York strip was out of this world...cooked medium rare all sliced with a side of truffle butter. After dinner, we were surprised with complimentary cantaloupe sorbet and two salted chocolates. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special evening in New Haven. I plan on coming back for the chef's pairing, which you have to sign up for ahead of time.

Definitely need a reservation to get in on the weekend fyi! When we arrived we were seated at a beautiful booth. The interior is gorgeous here. Our server was fantastic I wish I remembered his name! Among myself, my husband and young toddler we destroyed this. My daughter was eating so much of this steak and so were we! It was sooo tender and we loved the gravy on top. The fries were amazing and when they were drenched in that gravy it was chefs kiss! What really brought it all the together was the salad paired with it- it was light and refreshing and the dressing was so good! For dessert our server suggested the chocolate custard so we got that and a berry handpie. We ate both and kept saying "oh my god" with each bite. My daughter especially loved the chocolate custard but my husband and I loved both equally! We immediately said after our meal how we have to come back. We cannot wait to try other menu items and their cocktails next time. We are huge fans and will definitely be back!!

We were seated by the window and were given freshly baked bread. We ordered the French classics: mussels, escargot, duck leg confit, and steak and fries. The mussels came out first and were pretty average. I usually like sipping the wine broth it comes with or dipping fries/bread into the broth. The escargot had plenty of oil and seasoning. It was actually too salty even though my coworker requested less salt on everything. I enjoyed dipping the fresh bread into the oil. Lastly came the entrees. I was a bit disappointed in both of them. The hanger steak was cooked medium rare like I wanted but the texture was not great. I was hoping for a more tender cut and this was a bit tough and lean. The frites were cooked well and very crispy. The duck confit was very tender but I didn't think it was amazing. Overall I don't think I will be returning to this restaurant with so many other great options around. I might be biased as I am not too familiar with French cuisine but we already sampled most of the classics already.

I hosted my daughter's bridal shower here in mid-May 2026, and from start to finish, everything was exceptional. From the expert guidance and thoughtful suggestions of the bistro managers, Kristi and Whitney, to the incredibly professional and attentive servers, and the talented chef and kitchen staff, every detail was handled flawlessly. The décor is whimsical and beautiful, with large doors that open onto a charming patio area. The bar is spacious and elegant, making it the perfect setting for our Spritz Bar, which was beautifully displayed and expertly managed. We hosted a large group of 60 women, and the table arrangement allowed everyone to mingle comfortably while still having plenty of space to move around. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate us, even helping with setup and moving a banquette to create the perfect backdrop area for photos. And the food!! Absolutely fabulous! Our menu choices included: Rigatoni with Flambéed Baby Shrimp, Steak and Eggs, Chicken Paillard, or Branzino with Haricots Verts Almondine, with thoughtful options for gluten-free guests and vegetarians. Impressively, the kitchen managed to serve all meals at the same time; a true testament to their professionalism. Dessert was a stunning custom cake by The Frosted Rose Bakery who created a work of art from a photo I provided. They delivered the cake directly to the bistro, which made everything so seamless. The staff served it alongside ice cream, and we also enjoyed family-style platters of fresh fruit at each table. Friends and family are still raving about the event and the venue. A heartfelt thank you to Kristi, Whitney, and Wayne for creating such a memorable and beautifully executed celebration. I will absolutely be recommending this special place to anyone looking to host an event, or simply enjoy a fantastic meal. Even though they lowered the music back to normal volume after that song we were on edge for what to expect. The food was good but we couldn't wait to leave because we were not able to hear each other nor relax. Service could have been better such as telling us what wasn't available when we were given menus rather than finding out the hard way when we went to order. The waitress told us they had a watermelon salad but didn't describe it at all. They did serve the food all at once but had to ask who got what -auction style "who gets the steak?". The food was good. The salad altho delicious was minuscule. One hanger steak was tender and not seasoned enough while the other was tough and too salty. Back to the beginning, the hostess repeatedly asked us if we booked the other location which we kept having to say no several times. Finally she said ok and gave us a table. I can't imagine why she didn't just give us a table from the beginning if she always had one. It was very upsetting to think that we were about to be turned away and meanwhile there was a table. Rough beginning, and rough ordering. Food was good overall. If you like a party come here. If you like tranquil look elsewhere.

To start, we each had the French onion soup, which was rich, flavorful, and comforting. We also shared the foie gras torchon, which my niece described as incredibly smooth and creamy.
