The service was great, David helped us and he was very nice and personable. We did the signature flight and tried a few others like the pinot noir from Oregon and the rosé. One of the things that I miss the most since coronavirus hit has been seeing my close friends and family during these socially distancing times. So needless to say, I was beyond excited to set up a virtual wine tasting with Prime Solum in Napa Valley with two of my closest friends. I wasn't sure what to expect when I received four bottles of wine overnight from Napa. If you're a lightweight like me, keep that in mind since you'll be opening all four bottles at once to taste. Prime Solum is different from just about any other wine tasting experience. First off, they see wine tasting as a community experience to be enjoyed with friends or in a group. It's the social aspect that really adds to the experience. We couldn't agree more. Another thing that sets Prime Solum apart from other tasting experiences is that they encourage you to taste the wines side-by-side, rather than the typical tasting of one at a time. But why does this matter? Elana, the tasting room manager, explained that it's a way to encourage people to go back and forth to taste what makes the wine stand out, and how it evolves as you sample other wines. Hidden Gem! I have been in the Napa Valley for over 20 years and have seen a lot of cool tasting spaces but this is my new favorite! It's one of the few places where you feel welcome to hang out. The outdoor patio is perfect for a relaxing afternoon with a chilled bottle of Chardonnay while you play some corn-hole or catch up with friends. They have flight options as well as wines by the glass/ bottle and the food...just order a panini..you will thank me! This crew is top-notch, they know their stuff...professional, friendly and the family has an iconic past in the Valley. The venue is a comfortable and welcoming space with original works of art on the wall. My last experience there I did their new food pairing tasting and it blew me away! As a part of the wine trolly tour we were doing a tasting next door and sat down to take a break on the empty patio. We were told by the waiter to sit on the trolley unless paying for a tasting. What an inviting introduction. May have considered buying some but not after that. Apparently their empty patio comes with a fee and you aren't welcome otherwise. I just did a virtual wine tasting with Elana with 3 of my friends and it was EPIC! I'm completely impressed with Elana - she's so knowledgeable, approachable, engaging, down to earth, and she embraced my whacky descriptive words and went with it. She definitely knows her business. She's badass and I can't wait to meet her in person. The process to get the wines was super easy! And (on the west coast) we all received the wines VERY quickly! They also shipped to the East Coast for one of our friends (which obviously took just a hot minute longer - no biggie)!! We chose to do a library chardonnay tasting with aged chardos - and they were GREAT! Elana gave a lot of info about: *why chardos aren't normally aged, *what to look for in an aged Chardonnay *the breakdown of acid that changes the flavors *etc. I leaned so much! Beautiful tasting room that is complimented by their equally captivating wines. Junior took care of me during my visit and had exactly the laid back, but knowledgeable demenor I love in a host. I was lucky enough to meet Elana Hill who runs the tasting room, and learned beyond her expertise in the vineyard she was also the artist behind all of the stunning art pieces on the walls. As for the wine I was treated to a vertical of 2011 Pinot noir, but I must say the cab was king and I ended up grabbing a 2009 prime solum cabernet. If you're looking for a place with great wine, friendly staff, some solid Munchies (from fatted calf no less), and a nice bit of history make sure to check them out. Oh yeah, and if you're all tasted out you can grab a bottle or a glass...something that can be quite hard to find in Napa! read more

So blown away by this tasting room! As a sommelier, I have incredibly high standards when wine tasting and generally don't like to engage in private tastings. However, Elana and her staff went above and beyond to curate an amazing tasting experience. The architecture is stunning, as many of the rustic elements of this old barn were preserved to bring a chic industrial feel to the tasting room. The wines have a truly unique story from the Napa Valley pioneer, William Hill, and the bottles come with their own personal touch with Elana's stunning artwork on each bottle. I would highly recommend the Rose from Cab Sauv and the impeccable 2013 Merlot. I am currently planning my Thanksgiving menu around both as they are sure to be overwhelmingly popular with our guests! And yes, all you Cab snobs who don't drink Merlot, this one is WORTH trying and you wouldn't be able to identify in a blind tasting. But I was yelled at and embarrassed in front of everyone inside the winery. We love Prime Solum Tasting Barn! Everyone there is so friendly and hospitable. Their wines are excellent and the atmosphere is intimate and relaxing. Every time we are in town Elana always saves a special spot for our family and makes time to sit down with us. We've been going to Napa for 15 years and we really appreciate the personal approach Elana and her team provide to their guests. I am a Bay Area local and really love this spot! Every time I have visitors from out of town and they're interested in a Napa Valley tasting day, this is one of the spots I take them to. I love the unpretentious vibe, the super friendly, funny and attentive staff and of course, the wine!! They have beautiful wine/food pairings and not once have I been disappointed. It is a family business and you can feel that when you first walk in when you're greeted by the winery owner's daughter Elana Hill and her husband! All staff is extremely knowledgeable about wine (not just theirs!) and I love that they are able to break things down for the layman/laywoman. Best wine in the Valley! I've been going to Napa for wine tasting at least once a year for ages and Prime Solum is a bright new light in what can often be a stuffy and over rated industry. They have very reasonable pricing, the new food pairings they recently started offering are delicious and the service is always knowledgeable and friendly. Not to mention that their labels are some of the best, if not the best I have tasted in the valley in a long time. I really appreciate their classy but relaxed atmosphere. It's great how they entwine art, wine and food. It's incredibly chic and modern and how cool is it that it's run by a second generation Napa wine maker? My family and I visited on a Friday afternoon, about an hour after opening, and we basically had the place to ourselves. We started the tasting outside and enjoyed the patio, as did our toddler. Jr. helped us with our tasting and he was fantastic! He made great recommendations about what to try, was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. The wines were great, we liked everything we tasted (we are picky too) and we are still ordering wine shipped to our home. The wine is exceptional and the staff is very educated, so you can learn a lot while you taste. The tasting room and patio are comfortable and easy to get to. There's a charming sitting area to unwind in and enjoy the wine. The Petit Verdot is a must, one of best in the valley. I love this place and I love these people. I'm a Bay Area local. I brought my visiting family in during a 'wine country day,' many of their first times in Napa. Some of my family appreciate wine more than others and some of my family handle their wine better than others so I was somewhat embarrassed by one or two who may have peeked early... Even so, had a great tasting with charcuterie and cheese plates. Some extra food was also generously offered to us and the crew here made us feel perfectly comfortable. I love great wines. Not to mention, this is a family owned winery. William Hill and his daughter, Elana Hill, make everything tik-tok and wow, super cool!!
